This place has been our go to spot when we are in town for games and want something quick to eat. The burgers are ok but the Dick's sauce really helps the flavor - without it its nothing special. The veggie burger is my favorite thing to order by far and the vegan Dick's sauce is delicious. The drive thru takes a while so if you find a parking spot use the walk up window. Dick Mondell's Burgers & Fries is a small hamburger stand located in a busy part of town with a lot of student foot traffic. Parking is limited in the area and there are many private lots with signs indicating that towing is strictly enforced. The eatery itself has no parking lot of its own, nor does it have an indoor dining room. There is a small outdoor seating area with a few tables and parasols but it was raining when I arrived so I used the drive-thru window instead. The drive-thru itself was very narrow, being able to accommodate perhaps three vehicles maximum so a long queue can mean backed-up traffic in the area. Since it wasn't feasible to use the seating area, I parked in the nearby Elks Lodge and ate in my car. I ordered the amusingly named Big Dick with bacon. Additionally, I ordered a Diet Coke, which came with a paper straw, but curiously was in a plastic cup, defeating the environmental benefits it may have. The Big Dick was on a slightly toasted bun, with two beef patties, lettuce, onion, pickles, and a special Dick Sauce. The beef tasted and smelled fresh, the bacon (which was extra) was generous, and the burger was clearly made to order. The Dick Sauce was a little on the thin side for my preferences, and eating in the car wasn't ideal. That said, eating a Big Dick was a messy experience. Overall, Dick Mondell's Burgers & Fries is recommended. However, since seating is limited both in area and subject to the weather, I do recommend going when the weather is nice. read more

I had no idea what to expect when we pulled up to this tiny building downtown, but I was definitely not expected to be ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!! The place is a small rectangle on the street corner, and patrons can either park in street parking and walk up to a window, or drive through and order. This makes the entire experience seem super authentic and very home-y. This attitude is carried over to the staff! They're very friendly and helpful. There aren't many menu options, but everything you could possibly need is with the burger. We ordered The Original Big Dick (yes, that's the actual name of the burger!) and a large fries. We didn't know that cheese was separate, so we weren't expecting much from a cheese-less burger... but WOW! We were wrong! My wife and I went by here after a day at Sweetwater Nature preserve - Dick's has some AMAZING comfort food. Got there by 6:30 pm and food came out in great time, was hot, fries were crispy, and the sandwiches had really good flavor (chicken sandwich and the Original hamburger). It helps that you get to sit on the wood chop area and grab whatever drink you want and enjoy the spring air here in Florida, so the setting was hard to beat. Overall we had great food served by friendly staff in a nice setting, would highly recommend for a casual dinner out! read more

The Dicks burger and strawberry shake was absolutely delicious and hit the spot. The coffee was "okay" - like I wouldn't go there for the coffee but definitely will return for the strawberry milk shake (among the best I've had) and the burger will be a repeat if I'm in the area. WOW! This is definitely THE spot to get a burger in Gainesville. I've recently gotten into burgers and consider myself a minor league burger conosseiur. The burgers are huge and, not being much of a burger eater, I really enjoyed it. The dick sauce that comes on the burgers is really tasty. Fries are good but the shake was my favorite part of the meal. Don't skip out on the shake when you're here. Seriously, be sure to get one. The worst part about this place is the drive thru. That thing is a nightmare. We parked across the street and ate outside, but watched the mayhem that the drive thru causes. Traffic backs up in the road and blocks the intersection. It's a mess and surprising they can get away with having it the way it's set up like it is. I grew up on lots of really great burgers and I'm quite a snob. But when I tell ya Dick Mondell's burger literally changed my life the night I had it for dinner I would only be slightly over-exaggerating. There's really not much to the place and their menu is pretty basic. There's not really a parking lot and their ordering box from the drive thru is right off of the road when you turn in, but the service was quick and efficient and the brown bag that was hand stamped that was handed me carried all the goods I needed! The burger was perfectly seasoned, with melty cheese, special sauce, lettuce, onion and pickle. Kind of like an In-n-out burger but better... mmm just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I even went with the Orange Creamsicle shake and would so go again just for that. They do have a walk up window and some picnic tables if you're into that sort of thing. read more

You know how when you eat at most fast food restaurants you feel sick afterwards? Not at Dick's! I honestly don't know how they do it. It must be the fresh ingredients. It's also more expensive than fast food, but worth every penny. My usual is an entree salad + Impossible burger, which is $11.25. I usually don't order salads out because the lettuce quality can be subpar, like iceberg only, but this lettuce looks like some satisfying buttercrunch. My only complaint about the salad is they usually only include one container of dressing which isn't quite enough for the portion size, but I add extra dressing at home. They even have milkshakes with *local* Wainwright Farms dairy, if you're lactose-inclined. They also have cold brew which is *just as good as cold brew from a legitimate coffee shop* which is not always the case at restaurants, especially fast food establishments. The first thing you need to know is that you are paying much higher prices than your normal drive thru. We waited almost 15 minutes in the drive thru for the food. I was handed the shake first, and this thing was overflowing. There was milkshake running down the sides of the cup. It was way too overfilled. I got vanilla milkshake all over my hands, on my pants and in my car. I had to hold it out the window. In what world does someone think that giving a customer something like this is OK? A different employee took the shake after seeing me hold it out of the car and put it in another cup. I love coming here and treating myself on my way out of town for a long road trip. I usually get the vegan impossible burger and the sweet potato fries. The first time I tried the sweet potato fries with their special sauce, I was in heaven. Honestly, the main reason why my friends and I decided to visit this joint was the intrigue of the name. But visiting this place for lunch turned out to be a decent choice. Comparing this to the burgers in town, I would say it's similar to the five guys burger except less oil. So depending on your preferences of your burger you can say it's less "juicy" or less "greasy". The fries were decent and I liked that they had the option of the impossible burger (veg burg). I tried my friends and it was pretty flavorful and fresh. Good texture too. A downside would be that there is limited parking and maybe 4 or 5 benches outside. We got our burgers and left to eat at the nearby park which worked out nicely. I would suggest this if you're with a bigger group. Pricing wise too, it's similar to what you'd expect for a burger joint in Gainesville. So overall, including accessibility, food quality, and pricing I would give it a 4/5! read more

First off, the place looks great. It was around lunchtime when we walked over, and we had no trouble finding a place to sit. Staff was friendly and helpful, and I ordered the jr. burger with cheese and small fries. The wait was nominal which was very encouraging. The portions were pretty on point. Small fries were small, which was the healthy choice, and left me wanting a few more, which is exactly what you'd expect from small fries. The burger itself was fresh and very tasty, and cooked just right. Fries were also absolutely delicious. The prices were pretty reasonable, and of course, you can't put a value on all the awesome jokes to be made while eating there. And what can I say, I was not disappointed! We were lucky to go at the right time were there was only one car ahead of us. The burgers were made to order and were delicious! Really wanted to like this place. The concept is great, but it failed to live up to my expectations. I ordered their signature burger "Big Dick" and was asked if I wanted everything on it. I said yes. Make my life easy. Give me the burger that defines your restaurant. Turns out, it doesn't have cheese. You have to ask for that separately. I've never been to a place that makes their signature burger without cheese by default. I was never asked if I wanted cheese. Very frustrating when I got my burger. Poor user experience. Burger: very over cooked and dry. Nothing remarkable in terms of flavor or toppings. Fries: I've had better fries from the frozen food aisle at the supermarket. Seriously, the fries are boring and bland. Shake: another disappointment. The shake was chunky and runny. To top it off, my easy to please kid didn't like it. Finally, and probably most importantly, the price for that burger is outrageous for what you get. $8?! For a walk up/drive through and no dining room? And you can't even throw a slice of cheese on it? Stuff I liked: great location, fun design and building, friendly service. I would rather support a local business on my side of town, but I'm afraid I'll have to continue to take my family to BurgerFi in Butler Hellscape. I heard about Dick Mondell's a few weeks ago and decided to finally go check it out. The word play in their name is definitely one of their draws. I ordered the Original Big Dick and let me tell you it was quite the mouthful and I'd be down to eat that dick again. I think Dick Mondell's would benefit from better buns. The bun was pretty underwhelming and at the price they're charging I'd expect a little better. Overall though the Big Dick definitely filled me up and the double burger itself was good and well cooked. I also tried the fries and a coffee milkshake. The milkshake was great, could have been a little less liquidy, but that also made it easier to suck up a straw. Overall the shake was great! The fries were pretty generic, not bad at all but nothing special either. Overall my main critique of Dick Mondell's is their prices are a little high for the quality you get. The burger is good, but not 8-10 dollars good, like I said before better buns would help! I also get that it's a stand alone business that just started so they have to cover cost. The location between Depot Park and Downtown is great. There's no parking so you either have to walk or use their drive through. Despite my critiques, I'd recommend Dick Mondell's to anyone so they too can get a mouth full of Original Big Dick. read more

I went to Dick Mondell's with some coworkers for lunch the other day. I had heard this place opened recently and wanted to try it out. We drove and went through the drive thru and it was a tight space. There was barely any room for two cars at a time. One to order and another at the window. This location is on a corner across from an apartment complex and it was pretty busy with walk up traffic and cars. There was limited seating outside and overall it was a small burger joint. I will come back but I already know I would be overwhelmed if it were super busy and end up somewhere else. We pulled up and I immediately noticed the prices. They are steep and there are not meal deals for those wanting the full experience. I really wanted to try the impossible burger because I was intrigued and but my cheek and just ordered even thought it was almost $2 more than a basic burger. Burgers come with included toppings of lettuce, tomato, onion, etc... you have to pay extra for cheese. I was a little extra and also added bacon to my vegan, plant based burger because I'm complex (joke). The real star was the sweet potato tots with dick sauce that were so good. I wholeheartedly vote these these are worth the extra cost. They were sweet, savory, and the dick sauce (insert chuckle) was incredible. I also ordered a milkshake that was OK but as someone who doesn't consume a lot of dairy, it hit me a little harder than I thought. There was only one size and I couldn't finish it. The milkshake also melted pretty quickly. I ordered a vegan chocolate chip cookie and I don't think it was worth the cost. Overall I would come back during downtown, with specific things I want to order, and when I have a little extra change in my pocket. I would really rate this place a 3.5.
