Even though we arrived at 4:15, and there was only one customer in front of us, we needed to wait 20 minutes to place our order. Many of the side dishes on the menu were not available. The place was very clean. The manger was very professional. I've tried to stop a few times at a Dickies in the Northeast. They always seem to be going out of business. This location, I'm told has been open 5 years. My best guess is no one in the Coldwater area knows what BBQ is supposed to taste like. I ordered the brisket first. It had a hint of tuna smell to it, much like Hardee's roast beef sandwiches did before they rebranded. The meat is flavorless and has a moist bubble gum texture. The BBQ sauce was hidden behind the ice cream machine. The pulled pork was even worse. It was a pile of mush and again flavorless. Mac and cheese was average as were the beans. The ice cream was good and free! The pop machine was nice. I think someone who knew something about BBQ could make a killing up here. read more

Service is horrible. We placed a to go order through the app. Which means they had a printout to work from. Family XL meal - 1 pound chicken, 1 pound pork, sides - Mac and cheese, fried okra, baked potato casserole. 6 rolls. And added an extra order of brisket 1/2 pound. Not even closed to what we got. Two rolls that had been grilled and were black and charred. A Cesar salad. They were out of chicken, ok no big deal. We approved substitution of turkey. All the meat had big chunks of hard charred burnt pieces. Some mystery container that I thought was Mac and cheese. It wasn't. Not sure what it was. Maybe cheesy potatoes? We did get the actual sides we ordered. Meat portions were all over the place. While we were waiting for food to be ready, the had music on fairly loud. And football with the volume screeching. Called in a takeout order. Was clear and patient with giving order. Told it would be 45 min for wait. No problem, gave an extra 10 before I went to pick up. They had my contact info......55 min later when I arrive I was informed that they were out of wings and forgot before they took my order....In the 55 min before I show up to pick up order was I contacted? Nope. Just when I arrive and told it would be an addition 20 min for any replacement. Green beans were half full on a medium sized order with water full to the top. Walking up to the restaurant the dumpsters are overflowing and the bathroom hallway floors were sticky and had flies. I really wanted to like this place and the fun concept. The side choices were great and the combinations were easy to understand. Unfortunately the tables and benches needed to be wiped down and the food was disappointing. We ordered mac and cheese, green beans, baked potato casserole, onion tangles, potato salad and pork sandwich. So sad to say. But this place is disgusting now. The entire time my girlfriend and I were waiting on our food, which took around 20 minutes, the manager was in the back screaming at what we assumed to be a football game or something. The lady working up front laughed it off like it was normal. The chicken nuggets we ordered were wet and mushy. The bun I ordered was handled by the lady with no gloves and unwashed hands, then she set it on the unwashed counter. The chicken I ordered was cold and was drenched in sauce. I also got a small cup of sauce on the side and she must have not gotten the lid on tight because it opened up in our bag and got everywhere. She also forgot the roll that came with our meals. And their drink machine was down and I think has been down for months according to other reviews. And most of all it was so expensive. It was $30 for some cold meat, 7 wet chicken nuggets, and two cups of mac and cheese that are so small you only get like 2 bites. Oh I also got burnt fries that I didn't even touch. I would not come here again, the whole place feels dirty and neglected and the food wasn't worth it at all. They were understaffed and out of baked potatoes. The one worker making food said he could put brisket and toppings on mashed potatoes instead, saying it would be "almost exactly the same". I'm agreeable so I said sure, and was then given a dirty tray with the greasiest, saltiest brisket I've ever had, slopped onto a pile of a bland, watery instant mashed potatoes. We stopped at the Coldwater Michigan location today. There were 2 people working. 2 young men ahead of us and 3 already served. We ordered wings. The 2 men ahead of us got their order, and the one behind us got his order and we were still waiting. There was no toilet paper or paper toweling in the mens or women's bathrooms. We got our wings but the side orders were wrong. We had already been there over half an hour so no I don't want to wait for anything else. And the wings? They were so salty we couldn't eat them. We brought the wings home, rinsed them off and drenched them in BBQ sauce. At least then they were edible. The tables hadn't been wiped, and there were no extra paper towels handy. Even with a coke dispenser, they were serving canned soda. No. We won't be back. read more

When we had arrived we went inside which has a sign say that they require a mask be worn, and two out of the three employees didn't even have one on while preparing the food. then we had to wait over five minutes for our order to be taken which is understandable if they are super busy but they where not. Then when we sat down to eat the food our pulled pork meal still had bones inside of it, it wasn't in one or two little pieces but there was a bunch of little pieces scattered around in the meet. As well as while we where sitting there we noticed bugs crawling all around on of there window seals. It's such a bummer when you see a place go downhill the way dickeys has. This used to be one of my favorite stops in coldwater, now it is disorganized and the quality of food has decreased tremendously. When you charge a premium price like dickeys does you have to deliver with quality as you can see from the photos I paid $3.50 per side, got no chives or cheese on my potato casserole, got half orders on everything and the fries were more like a quarter of a order and were saturated in grease and soggy. I had to repeat my order many times to the staff and they were out of a few menu items. I know the management has changed but it's been months since that happened and you can tell whoever is running the place doesn't care about the details, from a messy counter top to open beers in the office clearly visible to the customer. Overall it was a uncomfortable and irritating experience and I will not be returning. read more

Stopped here on the way back to Ohio from Grand Rapids I ordered the 3 meat plate brisket ,pulled pork and kielbasa With potato salad & green beans ,when the man behind the counter Cut off a chunk of brisket he then took a cleaver & turned it into pulled Pork style yuck! I'm used to having it sliced was not given the option Flavor was ok,pulled pork was decent had nice bark to it ,the kielbasa Was really good nice and smoky,green beans were awful ,potato salad was edible after 3 packs of black pepper.overall was just ok,not the worst Q I've had but no where near the best either. read more

Stopped in while on business and went with the 3 meat platter, I chose turkey, and two orders of brisket. I enjoyed both meats very much, even without sauce. The cafeteria style setup for barbecue is unique to me, but didn't deter me from enjoying my meal. For sides I went with the creamed spinach and waffle fries. The creamed spinach was amazing! Overall the meal was great and left me stuffed. The free soft serve vanilla ice cream, which I used to fill in all the cracks after gorging myself, is a nice touch. UPDATE: Unfortunately I am needing to downgrade my review. While the food still tastes great, my last visit was quite a shock. Not only were they out of beef brisket and spicy sauce(at 6pm), but the menu had changed (no more meat platters) and as a result the prices had gone up. The meal that used to cost $18 was now $24, because everything had to be ordered separately, including the sides. I understand that prices go up over time, but when you have menu that is doing well why would you swap it out? Time will tell if the swap to a sandwich based BBQ joint will work for them, but for me it doesn't work. read more

My lunch partner had a single meat platter. The bill reached 25 bucks---see photo attached. When I mentioned to the discrepancy to the server she brushed it off with a "well, that's corporate for you. Don't even have Internet so I dunno." No offer to charge us the earlier prices. OK. For what this place is it is great. Quick fast barbecue with good sides and hearty portions. Their daily specials are great and the BBQ was impressively quite flavorful with good smoke rings. If the portions were bigger they would get another star.. the atmosphere is nice, has always been clean the few times I have been in there, friendly staff.. I enjoyed their brisket and smoked sausage, ribs were ok, mine are better, yes I own a smoker and know how to use it lol and yes I feel I can give a good review on BBQ.. back to the food! This is the best barbecue place around southern Michigan. All of the workers are nice and welcoming as well as the General Manager. He met me and my husband right to the door. The price is right and did I mention you get FREE ICE CREAM with your purchase? It's self serve, right next to the sweet tea! YUM! I stopped by for lunch with a co-worker and it had to be one of my worst experiences ever! Sorry this is a little long. There was a family of 6 (2 adults/4 children) and one person by herself in front of us and we waited in line for at least 10-15 minutes just to place our order. I'm not saying the person waiting on me was rude but he wasn't overly friendly either which intimidated me a little because this was my first time here and I really didn't know what I wanted. I finally just point to the lunch special on the wall and say I'll take that. He prepares my very small pork sandwich, slides it down the counter to sit in limbo while the one person, one register is checking out the family of 6, then she has to check out the lady in front of me. Your not just paying at this point, you are also ordering your sides and she has to go get them. Skip back to the part where I stated I was behind a family of 6 so you know I'm getting a little annoyed, not at the family, at the process and the amount of time I've been waiting. Finally the lady in front of me is being taken care of, I'm next and I feel like I just hit the lotto. While I'm standing there the guy from the family of 6 returns with a tray of food he received that he didn't order. Yep you guessed it, it was mine! So now it's my turn and the guy behind the counter askes me what I ordered, I tell him and he reaches for the tray. Now I believe this guy is the owner of this location, but I'm not sure? If not he's management. I look at him and say "I don't want that, it's been returned." He just looks at me like huh? So I say it again and add "I'm not taking that" he just looks at me and I said "I don't want it" and walked away. This guy didn't say I'm sorry or can I get you another one, nothing. He just waited on the guy behind me like this was every day stuff and he was used to upset customers. The guy behind me was the guy I came with so I got to sit there and watch him eat. I sat at one of their tables for another 20 minutes watching my co-worker eat and not one person came over and apologized or offered me something else.
