Very mid experience. My steak was was very undercooked and I asked to send it back which I proceeded to do, and I sent it back and it was bloody red. So we had someone who was very allergic to dairy, we asked the waiter 3 times if there was any diary on his rice (butter) she repeatedly said no. He had to make himself throw up to not get sick. Skylar, our server, greeted us and took our orders. She is personable, efficient, and professional, and she was attentive without being obtrusive. Stopped at Trainwreck Grill & Ale House while traveling through because the historic train depot looked interesting, and it ended up being one of the best stops of our trip. The bruschetta appetizer was amazing and came with three different sauces that were all delicious. The spring cocktails were great too. Especially the Passionfruit Margarita. We loved it enough to order another round. For dinner we had the Railroad Street Tacos and Patty melt with the Roadmaster Mac, and both were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Our server, Clara K., was wonderful. She was attentive, gave us several great recommendations, and shared a little bit of the history of the building, which made the experience feel more personal. The atmosphere really makes this place stand out. The stained glass windows, hardwood, historic details, and old weight scale give it so much character. The restaurant was clean, the staff was super friendly, and it looked like they even have live music at times. I popped over the MI border from Indiana to check out Coldwater. I looked around for a place to grab a bike, and Trainwreck looked interesting. We were not very busy today, so we sat by a high top by the window. The place is like a log cabin with many wood posts, paneling, and supports. Pretty dark. A full bar is available. We stuck to soda water this trip. The food menu was pretty varied, and I had the mahi tacos. Each taco (3) was a delicious serving of fish, with an excellent coleslaw in the taco. I think some of the people in previous reviews came with high expectations, forgetting that this is a "Grill & Alehouse". With that being said, I went with the blackened chicken alfredo to eat - It was good. Not great, but good. There were only about 6 or 8 taps of beer so the selection wasn't huge but the variety was good. From what I could see, there were only two people working the floor; they weren't super busy so it worked. If you're the type who needs constant attention, you would have been disappointed but if you're the type who just needs that every so often check-in, this was perfect. read more

The ambiance was charming. It's true that you need to plan ahead with reservations. We were waited on by a young lady who tried hard to serve a party of six adults. Overall she did fine. TWG didn't have a staff of professional wait staff working when we were there so six hungry adults can have expectations. I think the chef was not working tonight. I had more butter on my plate than I had food. If the chef had been working the plate working have left the kitchen that way.. But the wine pours were generous. The blackened fish wasn't blackened. Decided to take a 25 minute drive to try this place. First, the ambiance is excellent with it being in an old (but tastefully renovated) train station. Started off with the artichoke dip and soup of the day (steak chowder). The dip was accompanied with fresh made pita chips, which were delicious! The pita chips had some crunch, yet soft on the inside. The dip was fantastic. The steak chowder reminded me of an Irish stew and was also delicious. We both had the ribeye, which was tasty and cooked to perfection (medium rare). Our server (Erin) was very friendly and consistently checked on us, removing our empty plates efficiently. Absolute mess in servers. Workers not attentive to tables and seemed to be having a great time as multiple tables waited. Very disappointing as that is a cool building and was hoping for more. We got our drinks and ordered our food and they weren't busy at all. 2 out of the 5 of us needed drink refills about 10 to 15 minutes after getting our drinks. The waitress acknowledged and said she would be back and never showed back up. We ended up getting our food delivered from the bartender and he refilled the drinks. Then another in our party needed and drink refill and our waitress never looked at us to acknowledged anything. Never asked how to food was or refilled drinks. We ended up getting that last drink filled from the bartender as we walked to the bar to ask for a refill that bartender was doing a great job. Make no mistake, I wanted this to be a five star. We drove two and half hours from Detroit just to eat hear. I had Cajun pasta chicken that was rather tasty, the wife had the train something chicken which she loved. She also had French onion soup-did not like it and some crab dip-very good. The place is new, just two months so working out the bugs-I hope. Now the building is a very old wooden train depot-just awesome-the reason I wanted to come. The restaurant is an old train station for those of you thinking it's a barn. First off, our waiter was not very good. The hostess came to our table more than he did. She was tipped well. We saw several tables get up and leave because no one came to take their order. Second, the price and the portions you receive are not worth it. One tiny piece of salmon that couldn't feed a child. The drunken fisherman came with 8 tiny pieces of shrimp (menus states large), some rice and green beans. The rice was good, but the green beans were so tuff I had to cut them with a steak knife! My friend and I were still hungry after our meal so we ordered two appetizers: the crab dip and bruschetta bread. Both were good. Two meals, two appetizers, 3 $5 beers and 3 mixed drinks. Our bill was $170.00 before tip! Outrageous. Won't be coming back. Came to the Trainwreck with my gf on Veterans Day since we were in town it seemed like a nice place off the reviews I will simply say this review is merely based off the experience and sub service we received from our waitress. When we arrived the parking lot seemed half full and once we entered the building inside kind of resembled like an older luxurious modern barn house lit to mark the occasion, as we were greeted we walked with our server around two corners into the very back of the establishment away from everyone. We placed an order for our drinks and once our server left we waited and talked for a bit decided what she wanted and what looked good to me and a little while later I watch as a couple few guests go through the whole cash out process and once we finally received our drinks approximately 40 minutes into the season 3 of game of thrones on my phone, followed by a couple jokes of let's just leave a $10 bill and leave, followed by another sever asking if we were okay for our food to magically appear ready. Again my food wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either or at least not worth the asking price. Once finished with the food and understanding that I couldn't have gotten a refill after watching game of thrones I guess I should've expected it to go like that the entire night but fortunately for her I was just unbothered this day, however now I've been taken to the point that something has to be said and I really feel like maybe if I would've been a little different skin tone then we could've been sat with the other paying customers but I mean how else would we tell our server that we are ready to pay and leave unless we are to get up and find you.
