I just happened to pull in here on the way to McDonald's, I'm glad I did. I got the "Pit Boss" for $6.99 and I liked it. I also got some kind of blueberry cookie which was great. The staff was more than helpful. This place is definitely a hidden gem here in Coldwater MI. read more

We found this place on Restaurant.com, and are extremely pleased. Steve met us at the door, and introduced us to the process. A wide selection of tasty, fresh smoked meats, over a dozen sides to choose from, and FREE ICE CREAM! Steve made us feel right at home, explaining the menu, offering a taste if we wanted, and 'showing us the ropes'. Tons of choices. There were 2 adults and four grandchildren (age 8 to 14). We were all able to find something on the menu - from the 3 meat plate, to the kids menu for the young ones, to sliders, sandwiches and even a Texas Frito Pie Stack. I have seen Dickey's a number of times in Ohio and never thought to stop in. Was working in Coldwater and decided to give it a try. So glad that I did, as people never forget how they were treated. The GM greeted me directly and shook my hand. Welcomed me and made sure everything was to my liking. He went so far as to thank me for stopping in and welcomed me back. Needless to say, I've been back several times and the service and food was great. Even in his absence, the standard of quality service and fresh food have been met. Stopped in for a bite to eat on our way up north. Food was pretty good, and the customer service was great! The man at the counter enthusiastically showed us the specials and how to order. He didn't seem to mind that our kids who had been cooped up in the car for 3 hours were running around getting some energy out and even told us about the free ice cream. What a surprise! I am giving this place 5 stars given the restaurant type "sort of fast food" and price point. The restaurant was very clean, the food was well made and portion were large. Also, free ice cream! I recommend the pulled pork, or the honey roasted turkey breast. There are 2 types of BBQ sauce, both good, but I preferred the original. WE were here on a Sunday at lunch, with 4 people in front of us in the line. So the 1/2 hour wait to get to the counter seemed excessive. We ordered two 2 meat platters with sides, both with pulled port and brisket. We got two trays one with brisket, one with pulled pork, so we just shared the meat instead of trying to set it straight. We had to wait in line to order, pick up our own order, get our own drinks, silverware, condiments etc and find a place to sit. We were asked when paying if we wanted to leave a tip. Who would we have left a tip for, we don't leave a tip at McDonalds, and the format was the same. Sides were good, meat was ok. Didn't like the brisket coming pulled just like the pork, like it sliced. So we got 2 pulled meats, so why order two? Wasn't impressed, wouldn't drive to go back again. read more

I decided to get the $8 daily special for takeout. On this day it was the Big Barbecue sandwich, two sides and a large drink. I chose the green beans with bacon and coleslaw. Then there are three sauces to choose from to place on your sandwich. I chose the sweet and the original. There are plastic containers with lids to place the sauces. Food is ok. Sausage and brisket aren't bad but the pulled pork is not good. The bathrooms are not clean at all. And the cashier asks if you want to leave a tip when you pay at the counter. It's awkward and it's not as though they are serving you at the table. This could be a good restaurant but they need to make some improvements. Awesome. Authentic Texas BBQ in Southern Michigan! While we were there it was non stop customers. Always a good sign. We had a couple of their meals. Solid portions and fair prices. The brisket was outstanding with an amazing smoke ring. I also really enjoyed the pulled pork, ribs and turkey. My favorite sides were the baked potato casserole and the baked beans. We stopped here on the way through town on the recommendation of yelp reviews. This was much more than what I was expecting. The building isnew with nice booths to sit in. The people at the counter were very friendly, making smiles out of my grumpy kids. And, the food was great. I got the brisket on a salad and my husband got the pulled pork sandwich. You have been warned. Started out ok with a nice greeting when walking in. First, I had eaten at a Dickey's before, Tennessee I believe, and it was pretty good. Nothing phenomenal, but good. This place has the worst BBQ ribs I have ever eaten. Shoe leather would not be bad enough to describe these. At $25 for a rack ($40 with drinks and a kid's meal) these should be fantastic. I wondered if we were in trouble when the cook (possibly the owner) unwrapped these ribs from the plastic wrap and heated them under a light. Uggggh. Fries ok, ditto macaroni and cheese, but what do you come to a BBQ for? The ribs. The faster this place closes and a good restaurant takes over the better. dickeys has some of the best barbeque in the state of Michigan, the prices are fare considering the quality of food. my personal favorite is the westerner with spicy sauce and a side of okra. it doesn't get much better than that. the service is also very good and so is the catering. it is definitely worth going aback to. read more
