Schoop's is a local Mom & Pop close to our hotel and The Hammond Sports Complex, that had pretty decent yelp reviews, how about we sample the dinner yummies here??? Yelp directions are on point. Designated parking is available in the lot next to the restaurant which is definitely convenient for the customer! Thank you! Didn't have to wait long to sit down. Interestingly, there are quite a few booths with "decorations" on it, very cool for sure (Who doesn't like the Three Stooges and Lucy & Desi!?!), however they limit access to sitting in those areas, which is unfortunate because the booths have the best lighting compared to center of the room tables. Grilled onions to perfection, grilled mushrooms to perfection and a smash burger that had edges crisped just right and a flavorful center. Wifey rarely finishes a burger but this one was GONZO! Luckily she offered me a bite! Solid burger!!! TATER TOTS: PERFECT! Crisp on the outside, yet soft inside. Tastefully flavored. No greasy aftertaste. DEELISH! We doin' the big order next time! To get there from DeKalb by air, I had to dog-leg the flight over Cushing Field (to stay out of the Aurora and Lockport airspace) and then head east from there. Important note for pilots: If you are landing, try to make it to 9/27, or you'll have a long taxi up to the terminal where the restaurant is at. Once you are there (by AIR), you'll go to the far left end of the big building (you can see the beer signs in the window). Make sure you remember the CTAF (you'll need it to get back on the airport), and go through the gate, go up the elevator, and walk into the restaurant. Ambiance-wise, this place has large windows, a very large bar, a Namco Ms. Pac Man / Galaga game, bathrooms that are reasonably clean, some gambling machines, and decent food. I ordered their Pulled Pork Sandwich, which came with french fries. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Plate, which came with cole slaw, garlic toast (2 pieces) and a green bean caserole. I ordered the pulled Pork Sandwich, and I ordered it spicy. It was not spicy by any definition. The amount of barbeque sauce provided was around a 1/2 of a shot glass. It was not enough. With that said, the barbeque was dry and needed the barbeque sauce. The fries were nice and fresh. My wife had the Pulled Pork Dinner. I sampled her cole slaw (with paprika, very good) and the green bean casserole - which seemed to use canned green beans, ugh. Very soft, the mouth feel was b l a h. Service was solid. We were greeted (walk in, no sign, sit where you want), and helpful. The food just wasn't as good as other barbeque places.
