I have a hard time with this place. Don't get me wrong, the food is pretty damned good. But there's a lot of weird/negative stuff going on too. First off, many people try to compare this to in-n-out burger. Not even close. In-n-out all day. Secondly all of the upgrade for pay options are annoying to me. Just make a burger and I'll order it. Next: it isn't cheap. $25.00 for two people? This is a friggen burger joint. Price accordingly. Lastly, the music blaring through the overheads was AWFUL. Ricky Martin, Ace of Base, Brit, Candlebox (remember them?).... Yikes. Turn it down, if not off. All of that said, the food is pretty damned good. I am from California, and In-N-Out is one of the most popular places to stop at and grab a burger, but this place has originality. The burgers are big and full of flavor and easy to customize. Visiting family and decided to eat here after about a year since I had it last. I remember it being pretty good. Dissapointing to say the least. Ordered the rise and swine with chili fries. Egg was cooked all the way which is not the way it should be. Barely gave me any chili on my fries and the fries were kind of stale. Families burgers were ok but they didnt like garlic fries because they didnt season them enough. Can't give negative stars but I'm NEVER coming back. read more

When I still ate meat I came here a couple of times to try their burgers and found them to be way too greasy. The bun fell apart about 1/4 of the way through and then it became a fun game of "How do I eat this without getting grease down my arm?". So for obvious reasons I was getting my cheeseburgers elsewhere. Now, as a vegetarian, I thought I would come back and give their veggie burger a try. The menu lists it as locally made so that probably explains why it's priced higher than a burger (this reassures my vegetarian lifestyle-- why is meat cheaper than a veggie patty??) Whatever, when I can find something tasty and locally sourced I don't mind a higher price tag. Too bad the patty was tasteless and the texture wasn't my favorite. Maybe it's a personal preference, idk. If you're in the Valley River Center area and looking for a cheapER, tasty veggie burger definitely hit up BJ's instead, plus BJ's price includes a side of their delicious potato wedges unlike at Dickie Jo's where you pay an extra $4.50 for onion rings... You order in line here but the service isn't diminished by this, they definitely have a very friendly, fun staff here so it's sad I'm not likely to return.. Well, maybe... Since I haven't tried a shake yet.. Their ranch is also freakishly good... So yeah, maybe I'll be back for onion rings with ranch and a milkshake.. :) read more

Not too shabby of a spot, tried on my lunch break since I work nearby and got in and out in a decent amount of time. Ordered the ritz cracker crusted chicken sando - it was good, but lacking the flavor I was really hoping for. It was definitely just that - ritz crackers blanketing a piece of chicken. No real spices or other flavors than that. Opted for ranch as my sauce and there was just a light drizzle of it, which made the experience of the sando super dry and thick for chewing. Didn't get any fries because I am anti-establishments that make you pay $8 for a burger and then purchase fries separately. Glad to have this spot close by, will prob try the burger one of these days, but won't make it a habit to come here. (Not to mention when I found a spot to sit in I got confused because all of a sudden I was in a yogurt spot. The kid behind the counter there came up to my table and asked if I was going to get yogurt as well, so I felt like I wasn't allowed to sit over there although I saw several other humans enjoying food on that side.) read more

I love this place. It depends on who's cooking but when it's hot and fresh and the cook doesn't overcook the patty these burgers are so amazingly good. I get the mushroom/onion combo. Their burgers are juicy and big. Their staff is friendly and their service is fast. Their dining areas are always clean and they have a cool party room in back where kids can play with blocks. Their special sauce and great and their ranch is homemade. Their garlic fries are the best. We always eat here and consider it one of the best local burger joints in town. Dickie Jo's is as good as it gets relative to other restaurants in the Valley River Center area. I like that it's local, and it's distinctively so enough that I'd recommend it for out-of-towners, but even without that advantage, prices are lower than Red Robin. I've never been for dinner, but I went for a late-ish lunch, a little after 1 p.m., today and did not have any problems with overcrowding or slow service. Solid burger joint. Fresh soft buns, and that great homemade not frozen burger taste. The secret sauce is a nice touch, and the homemade chili phenomenal. I knocked it down a star because I thought it was a bit pricey, and the fries were average. Overall, definitely worth stopping in. I'm really disappointed in Dickies this time around. I've eaten there before and have enjoyed it well enough. I didn't get sick like I normally would with places like this so that was nice and was why I thought having my Baby Shower there was a good idea. Boy was I wrong. I called two weeks before the 16th to book the event room, I had to ask if there was any cost. There wasn't but they did say they "expected" for us to buy something, Which is fair. Their burgers were on the more expensive side but the drinks weren't. thinking of buying drinks for a group of 30 or so people would be okay and just, we went ahead with the booking. well a week before the 16th we had to change it to today (the 23rd). and they really didn't have a problem. two days before, my grandmother went to check the place out and make sure our booking still stands. They put down the wrong day, then booked another party not only before us but during the same time. They also gave major attitude when we were naturally upset with some of the last minute changes. We went a head with it anyway, cause we couldn't do anything to change the venue. We shared the room with a 4-5 year old's birthday party where the kids were okay at first, mind you loud but as soon as I started opening gifts, the kids were in my face, and running around our side of the party. There should have been a partition or something blocking the two parties. I don't blame dickies so much for that part though. What bothered me was the attitude problem the managers had, they treated my mom and grandmother very rudely and it was unprofessional. I -may- eat there again, but never again will I have a party, and it may be a long time before I give them my money. read more

The employees were great! The food was not. I've never had a greasier onion ring. I had two and couldn't stomach anymore due to the lack of flavor and the grease dripping off of them. The burger looked good, but I was once again disappointed. I ordered the New Mexicado. No flavor at all and greasy as well. I was severely disappointed with the food. Two words.... Garlic fries!!! They fry them in rice oil which is nice for those that have allergies/sensitivities to other oils. They taste amazing and the chucks of garlic must be really good for you, so the garlic fries are pretty much health-food... right? I like to think so. I always order the burger wrapped in lettuce, with all the fixings, so good. My kids adore this place too, and they do a great job with birthday parties and liberally use their party space to accommodate people who inquire. The only thing I didn't like about it is that if you're like me and you like lots of toppings on your burger, it can easily turn in to a $12 burger because they charge extra for each and every topping - even cheese! I'm a vegetarian and I still love this place. The veggie pecan burger is delicious. The fries are always hot and crisp. The chocolate milkshakes are decadently good. The carnivores I go with say the burgers are great. Staff are nice, business ethics are solid and service is timely (don't be freaked by long lines, they move fast). I have been there 3 times. It is located right next to my hotel and I went inside because it was not the usual McDonald or similar hamburger chain. I had to try, and I was not disappointed. Hey, this is still a hamburger joint and meals can feel heavy if you get the fries (too salty btw), but at least the hamburgers are cooked to order and their taste is excellent. Best. Veggie. Burger. Ever. They offer both a vegetarian patty and a vegan one. I've only gotten the vegetarian one, and it's delicious. I float in and out of vegetarianism, but I get the veggie burger here even when I'm eating meat, because have I mentioned how good it is? Prices are fair for the quality of the food. The burgers taste good. I just tried the basic, with pepper jack. Nice fresh taste, but being a meat lover, I would prefer a patty twice the size. It was about 1/3" thick, and the size of the bun. I had tomato and about 3/4" of lettuce. I tried the chili cheese fries. It was fine. Next time they will be plain, the dipping sauce (which reminded me of the old arctic circle sauce) was good. Unlimited drinks was a nice feature. The staff was very friendly, the decor fun. The burgers run $6.50 or so and up depending on your toppings. read more

Went to Dickie Jo's today and had a far better experience than the first time. The restaurant is attractive and now connected to Yo My My (same owner as DJs). The burger was delicious and the fries - taken with the optional white truffle oil - were crisp and hot. The restaurant was clean and pleasant and all in all it was a positive experience. read more

Bad service. This is second time for me to get bad services. First one was that I got my order very late after all my friends got their food and ate , so I asked them for my meal, they forgot mine on the table and they didn't even apologize when they know that was their mistake. Also, today my friends and I went there and we were waiting on the line to order, but unfortunately no one of the workers looked at us to ask us for waiting or came to take our order. I had better service at the downtown location, now closed. I heard they are going to open a BBQ place there under DJ's management. They are going to lose their shirts. Their burgers are good - just don't order 'a little pink'. As much as i love burgers in rare and medium rare and even medium, they don't and won't toast the buns enough to stand up to a dripping pink meat patty: it will sog through the bottom and become a nightmare to eat. Once I started ordering grey-burgers, I stopped having this problem. The fries vary, sometimes they are greasy and will give you a stomach ache. Sometimes they are good. The onion rings are good. The shakes are good. But it's sad to find a burger place where the burgers taste right but if you pick it up your thumbs will push through the soggy bottom bun and into your sandwich. And Guys - that's fixable, so why do you keep serving SOGGY BURGS?? I've taken my $$ and moved my burger habit to Big Little Burger for snacks, and the Glenwood, for when I just gotta have a nice juicy burger, done right. Five Guys is gross. Don't eat there. First the good. We were there for an early dinner on a unseasonable sunny Sunday afternoon. Not the first visit. The food (burgers, fries, chicken, shakes) is always constant, you can count on that, and we would return ~ then there is staff / management. (lack there of) This is a small, local group of restaurants, and I would bet a lot of people recommend a burger here to their friends when they visit Eugene. The style is get in line, walk up to the counter, order, take a number and wait for your food. There were 6 to 8 people working, not particularly busy. We were number 2 in a line of about a dozen waiting to order. 1 person was taking orders, 2 - 3 were cooking, others milling about and 2 staff members in uniform taking their breaks at the dining counter directly to the right of where orders were taken. The woman in front of us took 8 minutes to order a burger (real time, not estimated) and no one on the staff stepped in to take orders. We waited, but staff continued to mill around without direction like an episode of the walking dead. Once we ordered, we chose to dine outside on this beautiful day. There was one other outside table occupied. All of the tables were smeared with grease and fry sauce, we had to clean one up ourselves. Once the food came, the order was not complete and they had to make another trip. My wife's well done burger was medium at best. The order did however come quickly and mine was great. So, the moral of the story is this. I get it. It's Sunday. I doubt your restaurant GM is on site. Also, it's burgers and fries. Like every other fast food experience in town you are employing young folks (we have some ourselves) who are should we say not highly motivated. So - someone has to be in charge. Someone has to say wipe off the tables, open another register, ect. So in conclusion as I stated the food is always consistent, but it seems so is this atmosphere where no one is in charge. read more

Very disappointed. This is my second time to Dickey Jo's, I evening was the one who suggested to eat here tonight. So I think I will just list it off; not a clean table in the place, so we cleaned our own. Drink station not stock, or clean. After 20 mins of waiting they bring out some of our food, but then proceed to tell us that the chicken strips we order will be awhile, that they told the cashier but she didn't communicate it to the customers. So then she asked if we needed anything else, we told her and she never came back. 12 more mins past, the chicken came she just tossed it on our table, never did any of them asked what kind of sauce for the chicken strips, which were the size of 2 nuggets not strips. It's Friday a night during dinner hours, you would think they would be more prepared and have better communication. Cause I'm sorry but it is fusterating when you get your food when everyone else at your table is finished, and treated rudely. The reason I did give 2 stars was cause evening though the whole experience was bad, and the chicken was bland, they have amazing garlic fries. read more
