I was at the Melville store picking up a kayak I bought online. The most impressive person in the entire store is David. David from the moment I walked into the store was friendly and helpful. Luckily He helped me get the kayak into my small HRV. This man was so patient with me. A true kind-hearted man. I had a long ride to my destination and I didn't have to worry because David had secured the kayak beautifully, and with great care. David, you are an asset to Dicks sporting goods. a huge store. when i was there this past weekend, it was definitely a crazy situation. yes, as stated in earlier reviews, the store can be a mess BUT I think the store gets a bad wrap as i watched plenty of people try on stuff and and then just drop it on the sales floor. seriously, just drop it on the floor like dirty sox. Is this how people are raised in the area? SMH Shame to place it upon the sales staff for individual rudeness and lack of manners. Requested running shoes for my son. We waited 45 minutes while other people waited less than 5 minutes for their shoes.

Whoever designed their anti-theft system for jackets is a moron. It is absolutely impossible to try anything on unless you can get a sales rep to come over and unlock the jacket for you. Not to mention, I asked three staff to give me aid, and none were forthright in assisting. I dropped everything and left. What a joke. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I must say the people in the shoe department at the Roosevelt Field location, where really pretty great, very helpful & friendly, especially Mary. I must point out the one young girl with the really fake long eyelashes. Unfortunately I did not get her name, but she was the absolute worst, terrible attitude, took my info reluctantly and pretended to get the shoes I requested and never returned. She does not belong in customer service at all whatsoever, she is the reason why I didn't give five stars. read more

If you're going camping or going to a country that does not have all the creature comforts of the gold 'ol, USA, you will need to go to Dick's. Portable water purification system. Portable stove and propane. Flashlight and lanterns....They have it all. And of course bugspray, and sunblock, and things to keep you dry from the rain. They also have fishing stuff and biking stuff...If you're into that kind of stuff. This was an enjoyable experience. I went on a Friday. Amazing collection of fitness/sporting goods. they have sneakers, clothes, equipment and snacks. Upstairs they have the outdoorsy stuff, hunting and fishing. Who manages this zoo? The sports equipment section looked like it was hit by a tornado with merchandise all over the floor and aisle. Located in the Roosevelt Field Mall, this huge sporting goods store should have just about everything you are in need of, sports-wise. Two floors, lots of variety of sports and relatively easy to get around. When I was there for biking stuff, it was winter and so not the season, but I would have liked more selections. The customer service seemed distant, but it was the holiday season. I look forward to visiting again, but would otherwise would still prefer somewhere else, like Paragon. read more

There aren't much sales at this particular Dick's sporting goods store. The Nike sports shorts are about $30, which is pretty pricey, considering that I recently purchased the same exact pair at Marshall's for half the price tag ($15)! Black friday in the hunting corner was pretty smooth. Many long gun and ammunition transactions. Dealt with some pretty helpful guys behind the counter who worked surprisingly quick and smooth being that it was a busy day. On the other hand there was a customer taking a look at a pump action all the while muzzle sweeping everyone to his left and the employees say nothing. By far the worst customer service. I promised never to shop there after my first horrible experience shopping for sneakers for my kid. First experience went like this. Went to the sneaker section, place was mobbed. When a worker finally freed up, I asked him for a specific shoe size. The worker scanned the shoe, went to the back. Ten minutes later he comes out. I stop him and ask him if he had the sneakers, and he says I'm on lunch. Fast forward to today. Went back to the sneaker section which was totally empty. Two employees there standing having a conversation. I seemed to annoy them when asking for a shoe size. The employee came back with the shoe and went back to his friends now (not employees) to hang out. I don'tknow if this store is under new management but twice now my son went in to male a purchase and twice he was asked to leave because as they say he was touching the merchandise. I couldn't believe it but then I went with him. I went in and five minutes he came in after. Again he went to look at the football helmets and within 2 minutes a lady went right over a d sales him to leave. WTF!!! He said I'mlooking at them because he was going to buy one and she just insisted he leave. That's when I went over and let her know that he was with me. That'swhen her attitude changed but I told her he was fourteen and has played since he was 8 and that he would know better which one was correct for him. The first time he was there with a friend to pick up hockey gloves for his friend who is fifteen. In all she has cost the store over $500 In purchases and now that we have wrote off DICKS for out sports equipment she'llcost them $1000's more. All his friends have had simular problems and now I find it'swell known that no one goes there. My son plays baseball, football & Basketball times all his teammates on all those teams who all live in the area not buying anything in the store. GREAT BUSINESS PLAN DICKS. This review is specifically because of an experience I had with a particular employee at Roosevelt. I was at this Dick's a few days ago and purchased an Adidas sneaker a half size too large. I live in Melville, so this location is a bit of a drive for me. When I went to the Melville location to see if they had my size to exchange, the employee checked, said they didn't have it, and I had to push to see if he could search other stores. He checked online and said the Roosevelt location had a few pairs. Fast forward 20 minutes and I'm at Roosevelt, and an employee there checked and said there were none and that it must not have been updated on the computer, but to check the boy's section because you can match those sizes up to women's. After wandering around confused for a bit, an employee Deandre came over and helped me out big time. He immediately had someone grab my size to make sure it would fit, then called another location to have them put the shoe on hold. I grabbed 'em at the next store and now have my sneaks :D Thanks man!!! read more

I really like coming to Dick's Sporting Goods to browse around. You never know what you'll find and like if you're into sports, outdoor activities, etc. The problem I have with this Dick's Sports, their customer service stinks. You can't find anybody to help you with anything in each department. The cycling department staff is alright. Every other staff member here seem very lazy and careless about their job. I guess that's what happens when their wages remain low. Verdict - Love their baseball section, plenty of equipment to shop around. Fishing and outdoors stuff here is worth a peak. Bikes....eh, Diamondback and a bunch of heavy ass bikes. I did see some Cannondale bikes but nothing worth going crazy over. I wished they carried more cycling apparel. Independent Bicycle shops charges a arm and leg for just spandex shorts, I was hoping to find better deals on cycling apparel in a chain store but didn't have any luck. I ended up purchasing just a water bottle cage for my bike. read more

The store is big and has alot of stuff but I'm not going to spend the retail price on anything there. The staff is OK. Not the most helpful I've come across but I've never had any real issues with them. Its great that the location is right next to the mall as that's where I head out to when I'm finished browsing here. I'd rather get my outdoor gear at Walmart if I need it in a hurry. While the selection seems top-notch, the staff interaction with customers is where it all falls down. Came in to look for a second pair of sneakers which I'd bought in Europe, and after finally finding two guys to help, I showed them my shoes. They took one look, said "nah, don't have 'em" and turned around to keep chatting to each other. No offers of something similar, no attempt to upsell, no care at all. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced at Dick's. In fact, it was so poor I won't give them an ounce of my business from here on out. I was looking for a treadmill. Not you "run of the mill" $500 type. I was looking at a higher end model in the $2,000 -$3,009 range. Since they don't turn on without the help of a salesperson, I sought one out. The guy was upset about having to crawl around on the floor to make sure the unit I wanted to try out was plugged in. After several minutes he became agitated and said he couldn't get it to work because of the surge protector. So I asked for a manager to assist and that's when he got a sales associate to come over and tell me that they were having troubles with their surge protectors not letting any of the machines work. Lame excuse. I told him they just lost a sale, and the response was, "it happens a lot." When I spoke to the manager on the sales floor, she explained that their escalator was also not working and that they need an electrician to come fix these issues; apparently, these have been ongoing issues and "it sucks." Considering it's the holiday season, I expected a higher level of service. They lost not only the sale from the treadmill but other purchases I planned on making for Christmas. Parking is tough, it's a huge parking lot outside but because it's a popular mall the available spots are pretty far away While they have tons of products, they do not have some of the best lines, for instance they did not have any speedo gear in the swimming department. The staff is anxious to offer help but in a business type of demeanor and not on the friendly side, they want to get on with their assigned task rather then spend a little extra time with the customer Prices are as high as I've seen anywhere with hardly anything on sale and top manufacturers prices are what most things sell for I would much rather give my business to local shop, especially since prices are not going to be any higher then this pretty impersonal mega store read more

Sales person in tennis section starts helping us find the right size racket but after seeing a caucasian family, he turns his attention to them mid sentence. When they were done, we were still unsure of which to buy but he then walked away to look for others to help. One cashier let another family cut us in line. Finally, he was off the phone and started to talk to someone who just walked in. Asked him to let me know when he could help. Basically ignored me.
