01/30/36 Gone are the days of enthusiasm in retail sales. There used to be a thrill of serving a customer, a rush of adrenaline to get them to buy, a challenge to get a multiple sale on shoes. Nowadays, the thrill seems to be gone. I walked into New Balance, Garden City NY, I got half way in the store and it was quiet. No greeting, no, how can I help you today, or what kind of tennis shoe/ sneakers are you interested in. It's more like you're here for a reason and you're not going anywhere else. After I spoke first to the young sales rep and asked for the men sneakers and the wife with liye weight sneaker, he indulged me. Going forward, after I choose the type I was interested in, the rep brought the sneakers over, took the sneakers out of the box and left me alone to engage in conversation with his coworkers. Presentation not only matters with food, it matters in all things. The sneakers he brought over, laces were on a unattractive pattern. I'm not nitpicking, just noticing the difference in the present and the past. I'm all about paying a pretty penny for comfort. When I used to run half marathons, I tried to skimp on a pair of running shoes and long story short, after a 5 mile run, the next day, my feet hurt so bad, I could hardly walk, no more $65 imitation of NEW BALANCE. So I chose a two pair $199 and $94. I would say that the value I received was pretty fair for the type show I needed. I need one for physical therapy and one for every other day use. Of course after the weather clears up. In conclusion, there are improvements needed but time has changed and those changes may never come back. Not for nothing, a little bit more of working one on one with the customers when there's 4 customers in the store and 4 sales reps on the floor. Inspire more, yelp more! read more

I went to this store on Mother's Day to purchase a pair of sneakers. I was greeted at the door by Mara, an upbeat employee. Mara was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She measured my feet and asked me some questions. I told her what I was interested in. She went to her stock room and brought back several different sneakers in different sizes to try on. I found a great pair of sneakers which fit perfectly and looked great. I purchased them. I hope the next time I need sneakers Mara is there to help me. She's terrific! read more

Mark is the Best !!! I had a wonderful experience at this store. As a mom with a child with special needs life overwhelming with each new finding and each new piece of equipment. My daughter received her first pair of AFOs and I was in a desperate search to find a shoe that fit over them. After going to what felt like 100 stores, I stopped in at new balance. Mark knew exactly what I needed. He seem to have a lot of experience with AFOs. He also gave me some suggestions on how to make the AFO fit better and even provide a diagram for the maker. He made me feel at ease. This is a new journey for me. The new balance 990s work perfect for AFOs. I just have one little suggestion the store should offer a few more colors on that style . Needed a new pair of sneakers and I always wear New Balance as per my podiatrist since I have plantar fasciitis. My Mom had read reviews that the manager, Mark, was excellent. A man came over to us to help and was excellent so I asked his name and it was the manager, Mark!! The first thing he did was to use this awesome 3D machine that measured my correct sizing and determined the type of support my foot needed! That was very cool! He was patient and spent his time with us, thoroughly providing advice on the most supportive shoes for my orthotic and which ones he recommended! I drove all the way from Manhattan to this store because they had the sneakers in stock I wanted to try on in my size. I was helped by Chase who was SO incredibly helpful. When he saw my issue he had other suggestions as to a better sneaker for me. If all places had a Chase - we would still have brick and mortar stores. I hope they know how valuable this employee is. The short version: This is the best place to buy athletic footwear, hands down. The shoes are my favorite, the prices reasonable and most of all, the customer service here is simply extraordinary. The long version: I had purchased a pair of NB athletic shoes online several weeks ago, but unfortunately, within a couple of weeks, part of the lower sole detached from the shoe, so it was sort of flapping off. Because I had worked out in the shoes for about two months, I figured it was too late to deal with. Anyway, I went to this NB store, simply looking to purchase new athletic shoes. The manager/owner explained that what happened to the sneakers I'd bought earlier was a defect, and that New Balance would refund them. He not only helped me find a new pair that I LOVE, but took the time to seek out my prior order and see that it was refunded. In this age of routine online shopping, there's a reason that brick and mortar stores like this one still exist. We came in today to get my son a pair of insoles and to get a pair of walking shoes and insoles for me. Justin approached us shortly after we entered the store, and was very helpful, measuring both of us on the 3D Foot Scan. He determined that my son has been wearing the wrong size and width shoe, quickly offering to let him try different shoes, until he found a pair that fit appropriately. He repeated those steps with me, helping me to find a very comfortable pair of walking shoes. All in all, a very pleasant and helpful experience. We were assisted by a wonderfully kind young man named Chase. My husband needed a particular type of walking shoes, and because of medical issues, has difficulty putting on and lacing his footwear. Chase suggested elastic laces that could be tied, allowing my husband to merely slip on the shoes. Chase personally and patiently replaced the regular laces with the elastic ones, and tied my husband's shoes for him, which sounds like a simple thing, but it was above and beyond in terms of customer service. I stopped in at 11:00 on Tuesday May 9th and the place was busy. Lucas spotted me as he was helping others. Once there was moment, he sought me out, I ask if I should comeback and he said he could help me. I gave him my size and what I needed, he gave me several options, made sure I knew the price of each. He tended to his previous customer, went in the back, got me what I wanted and was very attentive to me. Sneakers are perfect, exactly what I was I needed. I had been to three different shoe stores before NB Carle Place and nobody was willing to help me find shoes. No stores had customer service. I have a swollen foot due to surgery and my shoes didn't fit. My doctor wanted me to wear a certain type of shoe during recovery. Mark, the store manager, helped me find the perfect sneakers for me. He was very happy to listen to my foot problems and was enthusiastic about finding the right pair of shoes for me. Even though Mark was assisting three other customers at the same time as myself, he ran that store seamlessly. Mark actually listened to what I needed from a sneaker. He brought me three pairs to try on which did not fit but were very close. He was very nice and reassured me that we'll find something. The next pair he brought out was perfect. I felt like I was walking on pillows for the first time in years. Hooray! That man is a Gem. I also spent about $100 less than other stores were charging. I got sneakers and a good saving. I'm thrilled. I give Mark 5/5 Stars for excellent customer service. Mark was a rockstar! I will go there from now on for all of my footwear as long as Mark is working there. My Fiance brought me in tonight and introduced me to Mr. Dominic M. Ortiz. Dominic is the Store Manager but he is also certified in Pedorthics. In plain English - this is right guy to go to; this is the guy you need to go to who will fix all your foot problems. He will get you into the right now. I guarantee you. I am a Physician and I understand that other Physicians will often send their patients to see Dominic. He is expert knowledge of both the footwear that he sells; he a former runner and he knows biomechanics. I'm giving this store 5 Stars. I had a tremendously positive experience today. I had gotten sneakers. I wore them out of the store to the car and in the house. DON'T do that unless you know for sure you want to keep them. They will not refund them if you walk out wearing them, even if you take them off immediately after and they are in perfect condition; but, they did give an exchange which is all I wanted anyway as they felt a bit too big. I called a girl told me to wear them for a while. Seems these shoe salesmen (and women) go to training to assist customers for the best fit. I did not wear them but brought them back. I went back to the store. Greg a charming young man helped me. He made me feel very comfortable as we chatted about dogs, locations and he even mentioned his upcoming future plans as I tried on different sizes and different styles. I did opt for the same pair just a half size smaller. Actually, I am glad I went back. I was nervous that I would get a noncooperative response. I am glad I got Greg too. It was a hard decision to make to get the same style I had bought in black, or my original style that they had in white. Seems the black pair is said to be a bit stronger made, though I have to say the white pair seemed to fit my feet better. The difference was nominal. If I could give 10 stars for customer service I would. Came here about a year ago for my son and returned again because of how helpful they were. My son wears SMO braces so he needs special support sneakers. They're awesome with measuring and talking you through which sneaker is best. This time they didn't have what I needed but worked with me to find it. When I called back as I was having trouble on their website the man Dominic took all the time I needed until I found the right sneaker. So helpful!!! What a horrible experience. Everyone in this store was impatient and unhelpful. They represented one thing to me when I returned $200 sneakers telling me I could order anything I want from the website but when it came to they told me they didn't carry what I wanted in their warehouse. So I found another sneaker. Don't carry that either. This happened over and over again until I gave up so now after all that they have my money and I'm out cash plus the sneakers. And nowwww they tell me they are independent from new balance which is why they can't honor my credit or all of sudden can't order "anything i want from the website". Disgraceful. read more

My Physical Therapist recommended that I go to New Balance for a supportive walking sneaker to help with a hip problem. I had high hopes but am now quite disappointed. I was fitted by someone who, I later found out, is the manager. I was surprised that he initially suggested suede shoe which I declined. He then fitted me with a mesh shoe which seemed to fit well but was very heavy. When I told him that, he told me to try it out for a bit and if I didn't like it I could return it. What he did not say was that I couldn't get my money back. $190. for a sneaker that is much to heavy, that HE fitted me for, and I can't get a refund! Store credit only! Don't go, they only stock their most expensive (almost $200) shoes! After ordering a bunch of New Balance shoes in size 8 on Zappos, and getting shoes that were all clearly 7's, I thought I could go to their store and get shoes that fit me. (I had repeatedly bought New Balance shoes in size 8 for years, this shouldn't be difficult!) The salesman wanted me to stand on some device that was supposed to tell me more than I know about my own feet, then he brings me shoes not wide enough and $150-$200! I said I wan't even extremely price conscious, but for a long time I've bought shoes in their brand that were in the $50-60 range. He told me they only stock their expensive shoes here! Unbelievable! So, twice they've wasted my time unnecessarily - online and in their stores! I am the type of customer every business wants - I repeatedly & routinely went back to the same brand and wasn't too concerned with price. Yet, they managed to blow the sale twice and generate bad publicity rather than making money off me. I have no patience for businesses that put me through this. read more

SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! Quality terrible and Manager Dominick unresponsive. In the past year, I have purchased 3 pairs of sneakers at $175 per pair and all 3 have ripped in the same spot on the right sneaker between the big and second toes. My daughter has also purchased a pair at $125 and her sneaker ripped in the same spot. Dominick tried to tell me that it is a foot problem. Maybe if it was just my sneakers but a female's sneaker too. I doubt it. Plus, why wouldn't all of my sneakers, boat shoes or dress shoes also be damaged in the same area. Wow, I was so impressed when I visited this store recently. I encountered such a nice guy working in here that really wanted to truly help me find a good pair of sneakers, I totally appreciated him. It's so rare that you find such a sneaker enthusiast, I mean this guy literally helped measure my foot and made recommendations of the best shoe for me and eventually I ended up just ordering one on my own from my phone because they didn't have the one I was looking for in particular but I just wanted to share what a great experience I had here. I have been shopping at this store for several years. The customer service is top notch. During this virus crisis the store was open for pick up curbside I had bought a pair of jogging sneakers when the crisis first occurred. They did not fit correctly. I called the store and they were more than helpful. They went above and beyond helping me get the right sneakers that enabled me to take my long walks and the opportunity to get some fresh air. Made my second visit to this store in as many years. First visit was grim, but I put that down to a new, untrained and somewhat clumsy young salesman. Decide to take advantage of the "We invite you to come to our store and experience the professional fit that only we offer. A highly trained New Balance Fit Specialist will gladly help you find your perfect fit and get you what you need to Make Excellent Happen." this time as is advertised on the stores website. They did not measure my foot, but only looked at the size label on the NB shoes I wore in the store. Seriously? While I was waiting to be helped, I did step on the electronic what ever it is. A salesman came over and asked if I wanted to try it. "Sure" I said and he had me stand on it. It quite obviously measures heat. It DOES NOT measure size as the salesman explained to me. I asked what was available similar to the 990 but in white. He showed me two pair and I opted to try one on. I told him they were loose in the heel and he seemed oblivious. Again, he never offered to measure me for size. I was tiring of the experience and said "just get me a pair of 990's in gray" and he disappeared in the stockroom. 5 minutes passed - no salesman. At the 10 minute mark I just left the store. This is a New Balance store, not a store that sells NB. They sell at absolutely 100% full retail prices. I was willing to pay that for the service advertised. The manager of this store should be utterly ashamed and the NB area representative should be on someone's carpet in a quick hurry. The complete lack of anything even resembling professionalism just drips from this store. Treat me poorly once and I may be forgiving. Treat me poorly twice and I'm gone. read more

I agree with most previous reviews, except for what happened to me today. I am in my mid-sixties, and went to get a new pair of running shoes. Sal has taken care of me in the past and he IS a pleasure! but today Justin approached me. He must have not liked something about me, hair, size, color... he brought two pairs of sneakers and just left them there, boxes closed, wrong size... not a word. Another lady came in an he just proceeded to tend to her trying on her shoes, making recommendations, etc. When I asked about the correct size for me he was very dismissive and offered NO help...'we have nothing like that in your size'!!! I was ready to storm out there when I saw Sal and he offered to help. Curtious and helpful he got several shoes for me to try and sure enough I bought a new pair. We took our 93-year-old aunt to New Balance in Garden City today and couldn't be happier with our experience. The salesman was kind, patient, and cheerful. He measured our aunt's feet, had her try on several pairs, and found shoes that make her happier than she's been in a while. All the way home she kept saying "My feet don't hurt."
