Jill, the CS manager at the Lawrence store went out of her way to be helpful, friendly, and informative about upcoming sales, current store bargains etc. She then gave me an additional 20% discount on my already sale priced items which all totaled saved me $100! She clearly loved being able to make my day and I left there happy not just because I saved so much, but because Jill made me feel so welcomed and important. read more

Well, let me first say that I'm not a sporting type person. When I was a kid I used to play intramural basketball that's probably the closest I've ever come to being an athlete. Through the years I used to watch NBA championships and NFL Super Bowls that's it. The road the teams took to get there, I never really followed those roads I just always tune in for the finale's. That being said, the Kansas City chiefs won their third championship yesterday and I was very proud of them because I know how hard they worked for that. Due to this I wanted to purchase a jersey to commemorate their accomplishment. I looked online to see if there was a Dick's Sporting Goods near me and to my surprise it was one very close. So I came to this location 30 minutes after they opened for the day. I have never shopped at a Dick's Sporting Goods store before, so everything that I seen was new and fresh to my eyes. As I enter the store they had a huge sign stating that there was no discrimination allowed in the store and that everyone is welcome. I know that this sign clearly catered to the LGBTQ community and not necessarily to someone like me. I walked further in and immediately I saw the rows and rows of chief memorabilia and gear laid out for customers to pick and choose to their hearts content what they wanted to parade on their bodies or in their cars. As I went through row after row, I kept seeing the sizes of S, M, L, and XL. There were no plus sizes of any kind. Now of course it would be a Health nuts utopia to actually believe that every fan of the Kansas City chiefs was an extra large sized person or smaller. But if any of you have ever been to a game and looked at those people in those stands the majority of the people up there are from the flabby family to which I am a member. So as I rummaged through all of these shirts, hoodies and jackets and saw nothing that I could wear , I became more angry at the sign that I saw as I entered the store. How can you say that you don't discriminate when you know there are people of plus size that are Chiefs fans and you don't have anything to accommodate them. But I decided that I was shopping for my love of the team, not my love of the store. So as I wandered to the front of the store, I saw a table of chief gear and found a beautiful authentic Chiefs Tumblr and decided to purchase that. When I came to the register the lady actually had the audacity to ask me if I found everything that I wanted. I bluntly said, "no, because you have nothing here that accommodates people of my size. I guess fat people can't be fans" I must admit that she was quick to apologize, quick to assure me that more shipments would be coming in and to call before I come and they would surely try to hold a jersey for me so that I could purchase one. She did make an attempt to correct the situation as best she could and although I thanked her for being nice and I can appreciate the apology, in my mind it wouldn't even be necessary if they had thought of people like me in the first place. Her actions to try to correct it is sort of an afterthought of the company. I can't blame her for doing her job but I can blame the actual company for not making sure that they ordered sizes to accommodate all fans of the Chiefs. And the reason I know that they could've done this is that when I left dicks sporting good, I came home went online to fanatic.com and found a championship jersey in my size and placed my order. Brick and mortar stores need to really stop and think about why they are losing customers at an alarming rate. It's all about the customers and being sure that you have the supply and demand to meet the customers need. When you don't care enough to meet the needs of the customers, the customer will take their need to someone who can, which is what I did. So I guess when it gets down to it if you are thin, petite and athletic , This is the store for you. They will have everything to meet your desires. But if you're a person that carries on just a little extra weight, you might want to take your business somewhere else read more

To be fair, I don't think I have ever been to a DSG that is super clean and has friendly employees. But sadly this location is no different. I used a dressing room which clearly had not been cleaned in a long time, and the employees at checkout didn't make too much of an effort at friendliness. I wish there were some better sales here as well, but again that seems to be par for the course. read more

Who the hell wants pasty Dracula-knees when you can have weekend-in-Hawaii-drinking-Mai-Tais-with-Barb knees? Anyways, I was strolling in Dicks Sporting Goods in dire need of a sales associate. I had a question that was burning a hole in my very existence, a question that if answered would address any and all philosophical questions, and perhaps the mysteries of quantum gravity. My question: which shorts are best for squatting. Four sales associates walked immediately passed me. One of them stared right at me and continued walking. Finally, after managing to make eye contact with one of them, they replied to my question: "Uhh I don't know. We have shorts, I guess. The ones behind you are stretchy." Sears, don't think I don't know what you're trying to do here by hiring all those Almonzo Wilders in the appliance and hardware sections so that the ladies agree to go to Sears to get butter churners and bonnets. We returned to Sears to buy a Craftsman cabinet, as they were on sale, and were helped by an astonishingly attractive young man who was pleasant and not an ounce too aware of his virility as he discussed the cabinets at length. Lo and behold as I looked around the store, I was astonished to see that he was not an anomaly. SO...to all the single laaaaadies! You can either go inside the store to gape or hang out back by the loading dock if it's a nice day. I bet one or more of them may even say hi and mean it! I'm so bringing Vanessa F. here when she comes to visit me in Kansas. Sears needs to be on the fucking MAP, people. I admit I was perhaps a bit unfair with my last review. I am now adding two stars, one for the above (truly, the staff here IS helpful and informative. The Sears Employee Training module should be rented out to those yahoos at Best Buy). I add a second star because you can get the hot rod of washer/dryers here. That shouldn't excite me, but it does. No, I can't deny the way my heart raced when I spied those cute little space age red and chrome numbers in appliances. OK, I suppose I should just give Sears props for all of their appliances and hardwares, cuz Target may sell them, but they sell a lot of sub par crap for cheap. Sears is the real deal. Terrible service. I went looking for an item (gloves) that the web site said were in stock, but of course I could not find them. So I went to look for an associate, and found two who were talking to each other and acted as if I were invisible until, after a few minutes, they finished. I told the clerk what I could not find. "Did you look by the gloves?" He then offered to look them up on the computer. After a few minutes of his standing near the computer without touching it, and helping everybody else, I told him to forget it. "Are you sure?" "No, but you're busy". At any point, a simple "I'll be a minute or two" or something similar, would have kept me there. But being ignored,nope. This seems to be a theme in some of the other reviews. So I'll go to Walmart, where at least I know I won't get any help. read more

Not so much the sporting type but I love to go to Dick's hoping it will rub off on me. The kayaks hanging outside make me want an adventure but then I realize it's a outdoor activity and that the end. Lol. Dick's is a nice store, well lit and clean. They have a large selection of products to choose from. I have ordered a product for store delivery and it went very smooth. Every time I have been in this store, I have found what I needed. Today was great because I found my favorite water bottle on sale! Happy Happy Dance. Staff seems friendly and helpful. However, you have to seek them out. No one offers to help. That is the frustrating part of shopping here. No one is in any hurry to help. Just today I saw a family wondering around, obviously looking for something. A CSR was walking past when the man asked her where the football equipment was located. The CSR never stopped walking. She turned to them while walking backwards and pointed to a corner of the store. She told them where to look. In my CSR world, she would have walked the family to the section and made sure they found what they were looking for. Per usual, there were 7 cash registers free, one cashier and a long line. That is not the first time I have seen that in this same store. I also saw several CSR staff walk past the long checkout line and keep walking. Not one of them stopped to help or call for help. Very frustrating. I also think their prices are high. Much higher than other stores. Also, their loyalty program is not consistent. If you do not have your card with you, they have been unable to look up your info on their system. I have been told to save my receipt and come back another time. Yeah. That's going to happen. It's a mixed ball here for me. I like the store but wish there was better customer service. read more

Took my daughter shopping to get softball pants. It is DISGUSTING the difference in selection for softball and baseball. Softball had 1 tiny section for pants, shirts, slider pants oh and bows. (They had more bows to choose from than they did softball pants) Baseball had at least 10 times more pants alone. Dicks says they want to help girls and women get to the next level and yet it is terrible the amount of selection for women's athletic things vs men's/boys. Please be more thoughtful in the selection you provide for women!!!!! Your place seems very sexist!!! read more

This review is not about the store or the service that the excellent employees provide at the store, but about their home-repair warranty service. Criminy, I've never had such AWFUL service! About nine months ago, I bought a nice, quiet LG dishwasher. About six weeks ago, it started making sounds akin to hyper tree frogs, so I called for service. A few days later, service guy comes out and identifies the problem: Needs some parts. A few more days later, said parts arrive. A few more days, and service guy comes and installs 'em (turns out that the manufacturer left chunks of metal in the pump, jamming it). The next time we run the machine, it fails to drain, so the dishes come out even worse, and the readout displays an error code that means "drain hose clogged." More days pass and the repairman returns with another repairman. They pull out the dishwasher, and lo and behold: The repairman had pushed the dishwasher back into place on top of the drain hose. I'm not a pro, but I was able to install it (my first dishwasher install!) just fine; yet here's this "pro" who... isn't. The upside: Dishwasher runs again, woohoo! The downside? It's squealing again. SERIOUSLY? So I call back that afternoon, and Sears tells me they can't set up a new appointment on the same day. SERIOUSLY? So I call back the next morning, and they set up an appointment for the coming Saturday. I wait around the house all afternoon, waiting... nothing. I call Sears, but no answer on Saturday. Days later, I get a box of parts from Sears, and that day a new repairman calls to set up an appointment to install said parts. Now it's been weeks since we've had a working dishwasher. Well, it's been working, but squealing while it works, and not rinsing very well. Yeah, great. Finally, the new repairman shows up, pulls apart the dishwasher, and discovers that because it's been apart a few times and Sears didn't send all the parts _he_ would have ordered if he'd been on the case, he's missing an important part that prevents everything from going together. Because of our experience so far, he places an emergency order to get the missing part and gives me his cell-phone number to call as soon as it shows up so he can run over immediately and put the dishwasher back together. This guy is pretty awesome; he used to be an independent repairman, so he's PO'd at Sears for not spending "five extra dollars" to supply the necessary parts. That was four days ago. Still no parts, still a broken dishwasher. I guess Sears denied the "emergency" order. Worst warranty repairs EVER. read more

Hard to find employees to help & when you do they aren't very eager to help. Have had one really good experience in there. That was with a young man that helped get my son all done up with his soccer gear for this new to the sport Mom! Not friendly at cash rap either. Another bad experience...when your son tells you in front of her, that something is on sale for $8.99, but it rings up at regular price of $32 I would hope she would tell the parent rather than just looking at it the way she did. On that same trip, had two other items that did not ring up at sticker price and I had to go back to get those corrected & that employee was not friendly either. Not impressed with the people at this store they know nothing about customer service! Anyways, I will drive to OP to Sports Academy or the Dicks up there before I shop at this Dicks when I can! read more

I have to say I was really impressed visiting here today. Massive selection of everything you can imagine, and not just in volume, but a lot of quality goods as well. Items I'd driven to Kansas City to purchase recently, all found here. How this town has avoided having a one-stop shop for everything sports related in a town that is absolutely busting with activity is beyond me. I'd say Dick's is going to be taking a lot of business away from Legends and Kansas City in the future. My business included in that. You'd have to visit the store to understand how much more they're offering. More than all of the other stores in the city combined. Easily. Finally ... Lawrence needed a full service, full size sporting goods store! I went to three different "sporting goods" stores on Massachusetts Street (downtown) a couple months back to buy a simple yoga mat, but two did not have them and the other (a yoga studio) was closed in the middle of the day. I realize this is not the BIG CITY, but for a city of close to 100,000, you should be able to buy a yoga mat anytime you want. Now you can! The store is new, clean, well laid-out (same as other Dick's), and the staff friendly and helpful even though I found that being newly open, they did not have the knowledge of a well seasoned staff. They made up for what they did not know with vast enthusiasm and my questions were eventually answered to my satisfaction. Growing pains! I would have thought that there would be more ON SALE being the GRAND OPENING and all, but prices were high (mostly suggested retail), hence the missing three bombs. I did find a nice Columbia waterproof jacket for $60 (regular $90) and it came in handy during the monsoon rains at yesterday's Cottonwood Classic Gold Tournament at Alvamar Country Club. My shorts were soaked, but my core was dry as a bone after over four hours in a downpour ... HOOAH! The store was packed having been open just a few days, so I think Lawrencian's feel pretty much the same way I do. The line was extremely long, probably 75 people in front of me, but I made it to the register in 15 minutes. Not bad. Do not forget to sign up for their loyalty card and get an EXTRA 10% DISCOUNT at the register, a particularly good idea if you are making a large purchase. My spouse and I went in to Dicks on Iowa St today 2/22/2020, I greeted the employee in the shoe section, and looked right past be, and didn't say anything to us, nor did he help us with finding shoes. We found the shoes ourselves. I signed up for the text club for an additional $20 off $100, but it wasn't allowing me to use the coupon. I mentioned this to the employee who was checking us out, and he said "oh"... and did nothing to assist, we ended up paying full price almost $300 for the shoes, and were treated like trash by both employees. We've had poor service before in this location, but today took the cake. read more

This was my first visit to the Lawrence, KS, Dicks. There is no shortage of sporting equipment as well as items such as clothing, shoes , warm hiking socks, etc. There were many shoes at sale prices in all sizes, styles and colors.... if you can't find a shoe you like here they just may not make it !! Cabin Socks, as well as Cabin Slippers, were buy one, get one! A terrific deal with Christmas approaching. The Cycle Department also carries a huge selection of bikes to choose from for all ages and abiliy levels!The sales staff was vey helpful and friendly ! We will definitely return to this Dicks for future shopping andI we hope you will give it a look also! I love this store. It carries shoes, boots, coats, all kinds and sizes of exercise apparel , socks for the whole family, just about anything you would wish to purchase for yourself, your family or a friend! Give this store a few minutes of your time, the clerks are always ready to help you but at the same time they'll leave you alone if you just want to browse! Sears Appliance Repair Service Dept. Terrible!! No Service. We bought a service contract for our Kenmore dishwasher which just went out of warranty. Purchased the contract early September 2014. Sears has missed 3 yes 3 !! appointments to fix our dishwasher!! They are now telling us it will be mid November before they can service it. They have sent parts to the wrong address, the service men went to the store in KC where we bought the dishwasher 2 yrs ago to fix it, who knows why..........And all the many, many, many Sears employees we have talked to on the phone with many hours of being on hold for them to say "we can appreciate how you feel, but I'm sorry it's out policy..... We have gotten no where with anyone at Sears and they have had our $250 for over 6 weeks for no service!!!!!!!!! Terrible lack of customer service! I will never, never, never buy a Sear's product of any kind ever again!!!!!!!!!! I strongly suggest you do the same!!!! read more

I think some of the people in the store that work there shouldn't work and then apartments that they cover but that has to be expected in a retail sports store environment not everybody will know everything. I have to agree with the reviews that say the customer service at this store is very poor. It's probably fine for purchases if you don't ever have to return anything. However be warned that the managers at this store do not honor the posted online return policy: "Purchases made in store or online can be returned to any DICK'S Sporting Goods store location." I bought a display model of a treadmill, paid hundreds of dollars for it (it was a great deal but still expensive, at least to me), and it stopped working completely after ten minutes. I looked up the error code I was getting and found out this was a frequent problem without a "fix" for this particular model, even right out of the box. I called Dicks and asked to exchange the treadmill for a higher end model and pay the difference (I was perfectly happy to pay more in order to actually get a working treadmill.) I spoke first to "Courtney," the Store Manager. She told me to call the manufacturer first to make sure there was not a quick fix, then call back and she would "take care of me." I did what she asked and called the manufacturer, who asked me to check a few things and then started talking about sending out replacement parts (for a brand new treadmill!) I called Courtney back. She handed me off to "Matt," who is apparently a manager in the exercise equipment section of the store. Matt simply refused to accept the return or help me in any way, even though I cited the posted, online return policy. Basically, as far as Matt was concerned I was out hundreds of dollars for a treadmill that did not work from the beginning, and it was not his problem. I asked to speak to Courtney again, who at this point did nothing except give me the general customer service number for Dick's Sporting Goods. Eventually I spoke to Dylan at the Dick's in Overland Park (Ward Pkwy Center) who was amazing and awesome and completely willing to help me out, and went to some trouble to do it.
