Jonathan, Damario, and Dani were all incredibly helpful and welcoming even though it was near closing time. Instead of rushing customers out, they were patient, friendly, and genuinely attentive. They took the time to help me find exactly what I needed, answered my questions, and did it all with positive attitudes and professionalism. It's rare to see a team maintain that level of stellar customer service at the end of a long week, but they absolutely did. Unfortunately I won't be back to this location ever again. After previously giving them a 4 star review, I now leave this location 1 star. The last three times I've been here I've had horrible customer service. One of the male employees had a bad attitude with me on two different occasions. He was snarky, rude and had a smarty pants attitude. Like bro... stay home if you're mad at the world and get out of the customer service / retail job field. The selection here is decent. The value is fair. The store is big and clean. But the service is horrendous. Last week my wife wanted to make a large purchase and she just walked out. No one seemed to want to take care of her. Dicks really is the appropriate name for this store!! I have been buying my tennis shoes from Dicks for sometime. I had an issue with my foot and was told I should no longer wear that particular shoe by my orthopedist. I tried bringing back the shoes which by the way was new and in the box and never worn and asked for a simple exchange. It was a few days over the 90 day return policy, but again that shoe was never worn and it was a current model well, these guys made my life a living hell and then had the audacity to send me to a third-party mediation company who were an absolute joke and very nasty and wanted me to jump through hoops to try and settle it through them like I have the time to start writing and explaining to everyone what took place. You should've been nothing more than a simple exchange. I was absolutely furious with the attitude and experience I had with everyone from the sales clerk to the manager, they can be sure they will never see another dime of mine again. For all you folks out there who think you have to go to a store to buy shoes whatever kind of shoe you wear I guarantee you the manufacture sells it on there online store often a better prices and with a much more lucrative return policy and free shipping even after you've worn them if you are not satisfied they will take them back . I can't say enough good things about the Dick's Sporting Goods in Thousand Oaks! We're in here more than I'd like to admit with both of our kids being into sports, and every visit has been smooth and stress-free. The ease of ordering online and picking up in-store is fantastic, super convenient and always ready quickly. Whether it's for cleats, shoes, Stanley cups or shirts, the staff here are consistently friendly, helpful, and go above and beyond to make sure we find what we need. I purchased two pairs of shoes at the Thousand Oaks store and paid $238. $100 of that was paid using Visa gift cards. I returned one pair immediately, but the cashier told me he could only give me a $100 Dick's Sporting Goods gift card. I asked to have the money refunded back to my Visa gift card, but he said he could not do that and that it was their store policy. I have been a regular customer at this store, but because of this policy I will not be returning. Honestly, I wish I could give zero stars because the store manager was also very rude during the return process. This review is not meant to deter, put a bad name or influence you to not shop at Dick's, but just an honest opinion about my recent experience this holiday season. ---------------------------------------------------- This holiday season (2020) I made my way over to Dick's Sporting Goods on multiple occasions in search of a specific Christmas gift, but unfortunately had no luck even after several visits to this location. Is it their fault? Absolutely not! Am I to take blame for procrastinating just a few weeks before Christmas? 100% guilty as charged. My only wish is that Dick's had the ability to know what product was coming in future shipments and/or having more in-tune salesperson(s) to assist in sourcing items that are out of stock. I felt their lack of really trying to source the item on my behalf by simply looking at a computer screen and giving me the "sorry we are just sold out" routine didn't show the above and beyond customer service that all of us expect to receive. After several attempts in stopping in at this location, I decided to call other Dick's within drivable distances, but the shoe I was in search for just seemed to just be sold out even from their website. Sadly for Dick's, due to the overall lack of stock in the item I needed (a women's pair of Brooks Ghost 13 running shoes purple/black), I landed up ordering the shoes from a 3rd party website (Zappos) and thankfully received them by Christmas Eve. Again, I completely understand that we are in unprecedented times and stock levels may very well be low due to the pandemic and the strain on supply and demands, but Dick's could benefit from having a better inventory system to share with customers when product will physically be arriving in future shipments. Even having the ability to transfer from other stores or sourcing from other locations even if out of state and having the item shipped directly to the customers home would be a start. These are just a few ways Dick's can improve their customer experience(s) and improve their overall sales going forward. ---------------------------------------------------- Despite having no luck with what I came in for, I did find a few things for myself and on sale which was even better. I picked up 3 different men's flannels and they look and wash great! Normally $29.99, I picked up 3 for $9.99 each and they are definitely going to be used often as we head into winter. Fun place to check out exercise equipment and they have a decent selection of clothes. Fun place to get a gift with corn hole, roller blades, beach gear. He was wearing a bright green shirt I unfortunately did not get his name and he either had twists or braids (I didn't pay that much attention sorry). I have to share what a positive customer service experience I had at Dick's the other day. I took my girls shoe shopping, and the sales associate in the shoe department was so friendly and helpful. In addition, I asked the manager about giving a comparable sale price for the same style of shoe that was found in both the kids and little kids sections, and he was willing and able to accommodate my request. I rarely visited the Dick's location that closed in Moorpark but this store in Thousand Oaks is not too much further away and is always well stocked. For particular items, it may be better to do your research online and then visit the store if there is something specific you want to see in person. The first time I went to a Dicks was in AZ and I was so impressed. Loads of useful camping, fishing, archery, golf and hunting gear at great prices. The hunting rifle section alone had to be 40 yards long. Now this place is not much more of a sporting goods store than Macy's. It's a fashion store for yoga​ dinks and the prices aren't even competitive in many cases. If you want to LOOK like the sexy peloton junkie, and money is no object, then this is your place. The worst customer service. Tried to exchange an umbrella I got for Father's Day but didn't have the receipt as it was a gift but tried to show them the purchase on my Wells Fargo statement. The didn't care. However Dicks said could only give a partial refund charging me $8 more to get a different umbrella that hopefully won't break on the second time it's used. They have a nice selection of the expected in the sporting goods category, and whether your sport is gym/working out, tennis, running, baseball, football, hockey -- they even support just looking good in sports attire. For you gun-lovin folks, they even have guns and ammo. (Act responsibly you wingnuts. Crazy people not allowed). Help on the floor is a little scarce. In fact, long lines form at the cashier, too. They could definitely use another staff or two to improve the customer experience. I've certainly become a big fan of Amazon for price, ease, and selection using ratings to help make purchases. I am a regular shopper here, going often to get sports equipment for my family, and each and every time, the customer server from REGULAR EMPLOYEES is absolutely top tier and amazing. I have no problem with the ordinary retail employees at this store, they are all highly trained, professional, and know what they are doing, however most certainly UNDERPAID from what I can tell. The problem from this store arises in MANAGEMENT, especially with the managers specifically named CARLOS and BILL! Each and every time I have needed manager help and either CARLOS or BILL from management has to help me, they are absolutely unpassionate, they seem as if they do not want to be working, they are unhelpful in guiding me to the specific item I need, and they never help with special orders or online orders for me! Rather than solving the problem, both these managers, again names BILL and CARLOS will often just tell me I can not get the product, and immediately another employee (or another actually helpful manager) will help solve the problem. These two are absolutely USELESS for the CORPORATION, and they only DRAG THE STORE DOWN WITH THEIR LAZINESS!!! Update: I went to write a new review as management should truly be ASHAMED by their PATHETIC attitude and work! Went in for the first time last week to purchase a home defense shot gun. Met a extremely nice gentleman who was very knowledgeable and helpful. Unfortunately when I went to purchase the gun "there internet went down". Things happen so he explained I could come back tomorrow when the system was up and running. When I ententes the second day I was treated with the up most disrespect. I know there has been some mass shootings and I feel as that has put workers on edge but being treated rude is never ok in a place of business. It took these two gentleman about 20 minutes to waste my time. They both were EXTREMELY rude. I have never been treated with such disrespect. They both then proceeded to tell me that they are choosing not to sell me the shotgun and for me to leave the store? I am a great customer who had bought some other items as well. Shame on these two gentleman. The darker of the general man even followed me outside of the store threatening me. Not to mention I am 23, and I was with my girlfriend. It's big. It stocks lots of sporting equipment, clothes and shoes. You will probably get better prices if you work for it, but I have to give Dick's credit for amassing all the stuff under one roof. The store offers convenience, and, of course, the chance to actually examine the products, try them on, etc. There are a couple of young employees around, but the store is definitely staffed leanly. Dick's arrived at The Oaks around the time that Sports Authority went out of business. It was a welcome addition for outdoor enthusiasts, athletes and/or adventure sport seekers. This addition to our community is greatly appreciated. Dick's is open when the mall is open. There is ample parking and the store is large with carts for customers needed such. The store is laid out across sports for equipment, athletic shoes (men, women's kids) and clothing, men, women's limited children. Items regularly go on sale and coupons are frequently offered in the Sunday newspaper flyer and through the rewards program, if you sign up online or in store. There is also public bathrooms available within the store. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The employees cover a range of areas so they can often help with differing sporting or activities questions. The store managers are always available for questions or comments. My experiences have been very positive since the store opened at The Oaks. My only complaint has been to offer more women's athletic wear brands and clothing options. I've been coaching youth sports in the area for years. Dick's is pricey, but carries almost everything you need. I found it to be a fair trade and try to buy enough gear to save other family money. Today I tried to exchange one of the many basketballs I bought for the winter season as it was leaking and couldn't hold air. The manager told me I should have bought the protection plan. Kind of funny. Someone else mentioned what I experienced. It's a pretty large store. Kind of hard to get someone to help as the folks that are there seem to be preoccupied with folding and other things. So I just meander looking for what I need. Took me awhile but finally found the exercise bands I was looking for. They seemed a little pricey and in the back of my mind I knew I could probably get them online for cheaper. But nah, I was there, it's a local store of a dying breed (sporting good stores), so I should just buy it. Went to register near the door to the outdoor shops area, where clerk promptly and smilelessly told me I had to go to the register on the other side of the store. I was like, seriously? Due to the combination of my general annoyance and wasted time walking around entire store looking for what I needed, knowing that I was probably way overpaying for the item in my hand, and my displeasure at being told I had to walk again to the other side of the large store to purchase the item, after approximately 12 steps, I placed the item on a display and left the store empty handed. Two hours later, I looked it up in Amazon, and sure enough I found comparable items for a third of the price. Order placed in minutes. But it wasn't the price that led me to order the product online. I decided to visit the new store in the Oaks Mall after my trainer said she had bought a pair of pilates/yoga socks with non slip grips there. I walked into the huge store trying to dodge the carts full of stock strewn across the entrance and asked the nearest member of staff where I would find ladies socks. She didn't know and asked another store member and they didn't know either. So she led me to the yoga mat area and dithered around when they plainly weren't there. I then followed her to the shoe department where she asked a male member of staff where the women's non slip socks would be. He said they didn't stock them and turned his back to us, and the female staff member left. Since I was on my own I decided to take a look around and found the non slip socks right by ladies shoes straight away!! When I went to pay the cashier ignored me and when I asked him if he was open he said they were experiencing problems with the cash registers and didn't know if any were open. I walked to the other end of the store and found one open. It seems as though the staff don't know their stock and where items are kept in store so they are losing sales and customers are leaving empty handed. They also don't know how to use the cash registers which means the store is losing money. I'm not in a hurry to go back. Such a pity Sport Chalet closed! read more

It's been a tough year for big box sporting good retailers. With much hype and anticipation TO finally gets it's own Dick's Sporting Goods located in the outdoor mall of the Oaks. Gone is the back parking lot behind Lazy Dog but it's replaced with a tall ceiling store full of the latest in hard and soft goods. It's good to see Dick's offer golf equipment along with regripping clubs. There's a decent assortment of fitness equipment, baseball and camping gear to suite most customer's needs. The shoe department probably has the largest spaced dedicated to it though besides the racks and rack of clothing in the middle of the store. I do like the two entrances to the building, one from the parking lot the other from the interior of the mall. Being it was opening weekend there were a lot of sales associates ready to assist customers. It will be interesting to see how well Dick's does after the initial shine wears off. I have high hopes though as the location is convenient and there isn't much in the way of competition in TO. read more
