Yesterday I called Dicks Taxidermy for the first time. I spoke to a man named Kirk his business was not open but he said he would open for me if I wanted to come up. It was an hour drive but he assured me he would wait until I arrived. when I drove in I was very impressed with his property it was absolutely immaculate. I was greeted by both Dick and Kirk. I showed him my Duck I wanted mounted he examined it for flaws and said we were good to go and that he could have it done in six weeks. Now if you ever have had taxidermy done it is always a year no matter what you have done. His prices are very competitive and his work is impeccable. He spent over an hour with me showing me his shop and Taxidermy procedures. He also taught me the best way to take care of existing mounts I have at home. For this reason I give this business 5 stars. I recommend anyone that wants high quality taxidermy, in a professional environment at a competitive price. Charles read more

You know, I wish Yelp was available back in 1983. I certainly would have posted a review. How does a hunter forget taking a monster Mulie? However, the story goes like this. I had just got out of the Army and wanted to go deer hunting. With a bad leg I obtained from my time in service, I still went up hunting to a place I knew very well and had hunted several times. Not long afterward, I heard something coming down the opposite hill toward me. Looked up and knew immediately this was a huge deer. One shot and the deer was down and I had shot the biggest deer of my life, and still is the biggest deer I've ever taken. At a young 23 years old and still looking for a career, money was tight. I didn't have a truck, so I packed the deer in the back of my Datsun 210 and drove to check in with the Fish & Game service. The Warden told me, it the biggest buck he'd ever seen come out of the area. After doing a little research, I found this company and elected to take the mount of a lifetime to them. The guy gave me a price, and we agreed on payments I could make before the mount was done. I put down the deposit, and left. Excited that in the next 6 months or more I'd have a trophy on my wall. 3-4 months later I get a call from them telling me I needed to be there, that day, with the balance or they would throw away the mount. Well, as a young adult, I simply didn't have the money. So, I lost the mount. Finally, I know this review is coming 34 years after the fact, and will be met with some real skepticism. I simply will never forget this buck. I have told the story of this huge buck over the years to several people, I know right where the bullet hole should be. I just couldn't remember the name of the taxidermist. However, I just recently found out again who the taxidermist was. I checked them out on Google Maps and immediately recognized the layout of the property. The caveat here is this, I never took it to court, I was young and still a little unsure. But, in my opinion, this gorgeous 28"+ Mule Deer was stolen from me. read more

The name of the business is quite accurate this guy is a dick. I called to ask for advice on what to do with a dead hawk I found in my yard. He tried to get me to pay him a ridiculous amount of money to stuff it and then donate it to a university. I declined so he insulted me and called me names. I called a second taxidermist and was told he isn't allowed to stuff that kind of bird for a member of the general public! Stay far away from dick he is rude and will try to bully you into buying his services he is a terrible salesman. read more

Totally awesome people. They did a great job on our buck. We were extremely happy with the way our buck turned out. Kirk is very knowledgeable and willing to help with any information or questions we had. His work is quality and we were amazed at how true to life our mule deer turned out. I would recommend them to anyone so please don't take your mounts out of state because you have really great people here in California that do an excellent job. read more

I've been going to Dick's the last 3 of 4 hunting seasons, by far the best taxidermy work in the Sacramento area. May need to pay a little more, but the quality you get for something that will last a lifetime is well worth it. read more

Dick's is great. He has now fixed a shattered set of water buffalo horns and remounted a set of mule deer antlers. He is knowledgeable and very reasonably priced. He knows his stuff. read more

My father and I shot 2 incredible California deer last year and searched for a good taxidermist . Once I walked in to there facility I was very impressed with there work. We went ahead and had them done with Kirk and I am super satisfied with the final product . My fathers mount needed to have a different cape which he replicated every bit of detail and made it exactly the same .He also took the time to give me advice/tips in regards to my compound bow tuning. I will gladly be returning to him for my taxidermy needs.I can't thank him enough on how great customer service and quality of work he does read more

Just like the last guy, I have no idea what the first two comments were about. Maybe they aren't used to dealing with MEN. My name is Adrian McKown and I have EIGHT mounts done by Dick and his son, Kirk. They are ALL show/museum quality! They are so good and accommodating I've taken back an old mount and had it added to a new mount, for just the cost of the new mount. How is this for customer service: my wife damaged one of my mounts during a move, I took it to Dicks for repair and they repaired it for no charge! The work they do would hold up/compare to any other taxidermist, and is better then most! I tried to save money with my last mount and used a competitor that was significantly less money. I picked up my mount, which was a LARGE Tom turkey, it looked so ridiculous and unrealistic there was no way I was going to put it in my game room next to Dicks work, I THREW IT IN THE TRASH! What a waste of a huge beautiful bird and my money! I will NEVER go anywhere else for my taxidermy needs. In taxidermy you get what you pay for, and I'll never pay anyone else but Dicks Taxidermy! A footnote, these guys are busy! They don't have time to answer the phone all day etc, they actually do the work and do it well. Want info, just drive out and talk to them. read more

Wow! I am shocked. I heard this guy did great work and so called him the day I shot a couple special birds. I asked him if it was ok to store in a freezer and deliver to him within the next year due to finances. He said yes without any reservations and even talked me through how to store it. I called 8 months later and he refused to work on the bird when I asked if there was freezer burn if I would be charged the full amount. He seemed to back track and say there was a good chance the birds were damaged. I calmly explained that if damage was a possibility then I would have appreciated being told this 8 months prior so I didn't waste a prize bird due to his information. He became very rude and unpleasant and eventually told me that I procrastinated and then hung up on me after getting very angry. I would have just had it done earlier but I trusted his advice since he seemed so confident they would be fine. He may do great work but the bad attitude is not someone I would generally want to do business with. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to him but if you get any weird vibes maybe try someone else. read more
