Stopped in for a quick brunch and loved the food. Classic diner vibe with an elevated menu

We have been trying to come here for a year but can never get the timing right. They are so busy on weekends and during breakfast on random weekdays but my partner and I came here on a Wednesday at 1pm. No wait! This place is worth the hype, great southwest menu, reminded me of Austin, with subtle hints to El Paso, and Santa Fe. Great influences! I started with a sparkling water, a cold brew, and we shared Al pastor fries. The fries were flavored with Al Pastor, a served with a mayo (maybe chipotle). They were very tasty. I got the traditional breakfast with potatoes, over easy eggs, and both refried beans and avocado. It was great, the eggs were well cooked and my yolks broke open exposing their delicious yellow juice perfectly. The potatoes were crispy and the refried beans (black beans) were perfect, salty, and smooth. They also have two hot sauces one is pineapple and they have a chili oil at the table. I was looking for more heat / a more intense hot sauce but they were tasty. My partner got the fried chicken covered in gravy. It came with some spring veggies, peas, and onion. Everything was good, portions were big, and the food was fresh. Definitely recommend coming here and even if you have to wait, it's worth it!

Doves Luncheonette is a southern inspired diner with Mexican inspired dishes. They have cocktails, coffee, and agua frescas to drink. We started with the chipotle deviled eggs topped with hot sauce and scallions. I highly recommend the brisket hash with burnt ends, crispy potatoes, chipotle aoli, queso fresco, scallion, peppers, eggs, and toast. The masa pancakes are different and have some not traditional spices. They have a nice patio outside if you aren't able to get a table inside. Service was great this is a great spot to go for breakfast or brunch.

Really enjoyed it here! The menu surprised me; it's small and definitely breakfast forward but with some unique twists. I love the vibe of the space. It feels old school and established with lots of good character. We got the taco norteo and the little gem salad and it was the perfect mix of fresh and rich for lunch! Service was great. I'd come back for something unique again when in the area. It's not a ton of options but I appreciated the quality put into the dishes we got.

Wheeeew Dove's oh how I expected more of you. Yet I don't know why (possibly because of recommendations). Ok so let's jump into this review. For like 1.5 years, Doves has been recommended to me by many individuals, especially foodies. I finally decided to check it out and I went with a dear friend during Happy Hour - they serve food and drink. So for me, this is a great deal. Upon entering with no resy, we were seated fairly quickly. We greatly appreciated that with kind attitudes. Our server did a great job although it was clear he was overwhelmed and exhausted. My friend and I got the same meal of the fried chicken Sando and the horchata latte alcoholic. The drink - if you love coffee, I mean adore it, this is for you! Don't expect much liquor as this is pre- batched. Do not request mods as it's not accepted since it is pre batched. The sandwich fell flat on many levels. For $10, this sandwich came with no fries and no flavor. It was bread and meat. This is the type of sandwich you eat when you eat just to satisfy the task of feeding your body. Do not anticipate to eat this sandwich and expect flavor or to be full. I'm slightly inclined to return to Dove's but I'm also trying to determine what their cuisine is. It slightly gives diner but not really.

Dove's is one of my favorite breakfast spots. Cool ambience, diner style, counter seating. I love that they play vinyl tracks. Always great music. Drip coffee is la columbe. So good. My favorite thing is the house made hot sauces & chili crisp. I love it in my scrambled eggs. The breakfast potatoes are a must get. Crispy, with cheese & green onions. Always great service, very hip vibe.

    Dirty Horchata Latte

Went for happy hour on a Saturday. It was busy, but service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the dirty horchata latte and the hot chicken sando. Both were underwhelming and I didn't even care to finish them. You barely tasted any alcohol in the latte and the chicken sandwich barely had any flavor at all. Great HH prices, cozy & classic ambiance, lackluster flavors. Definitely don't feel inclined to return, but also wouldn't mind stopping in to try some other menu items.

Came here for the back to life cocktail. Left trying the chicken fried chicken. You will struggle to pick whether the gravy or the chicken is better. Then the tasty refreshing ceviche to add another layer of "which is better?" Love this place as always and our server was great!

Dove's is the best! A spot by the window with a horchata cold brew is the best way to spend a morning. The burnt ends hash is my favorite breakfast dish in Chicago, with such an authentic flavor in every bite. The potatoes are cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The staff is wonderful and the space couldn't be cooler.

Love this little gem in Wicker Park! The setting is like a diner/bar. The music is great and non current. When I see the bartender also spinning vinyls like Chicago Souls and Joy Division, you know there's something special here. The OK Onion Burger is the best burger I've eaten since moving here a little over two years ago. It's so simple with a powerful taste. Soft sesame dead buns. A smash burger style seasoned patty. The pickles are a little sweet. And that unique sauce! The El Animal Fries may have been inspired by In-n-Out which is awesome! Gotta try it! The service is efficient and friendly. The bar seating is the place to be in my opinion:)

If you're hungry in Chicago, check out Dove's Luncheonette. It's got this cool retro diner vibe but with a smaller, more focused menu. You'll spot some classics along with a few dishes with a Mexican twist, which is a great touch. I started with the chipotle deviled eggs. Honestly, I'm a deviled egg fan, but here the chipotle kind of took over the flavor. It wasn't bad, just stronger than I expected. The chicken fried chicken? Super tasty and absolutely massive. I've been eating leftovers for days. The staff really made me feel welcome. Plus, there's always good music playing on vinyl in the corner, so the whole place feels relaxed and inviting. The food is hearty and pretty affordable for the portions. On a cold Chicago day, this spot just hits the spot. Definitely recommend it for comfort food with a little something extra.

Food is amazing and the diner is so comfortable inside. Great for people watching. Im Mexican and was a bit skeptical about trying this place but the taco norteño was amazing and the breakfast potatoes are to die for. Very nice staff as well.

This place was recommended by a client of mine. And wow! It blew our minds. Food was so delicious and Every bite was perfect! Can't wait to do back again, We sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing too. The whole restaurant looks like we are back when things were lot better! Drinks were fire!

Nobody's performing, everybody's happy to be there, and the staff treated us like they were glad we showed up. Start with the sweet tea. It's the real thing. The Nashville hot chicken and waffles is the move. The heat has actual flavor behind it instead of just burn, and it builds in a way that keeps you going back for another bite. Then I tried the shrimp and grits and had a small crisis about which one I liked better. Still haven't settled it. The grits were creamy, the shrimp had real seasoning, and I cleaned the plate. Fair warning: none of this food is for anyone on a diet. That's the point. Come hungry, wear the forgiving pants, and let somebody else count things for the day.

The chicken was delicious and the pancakes were out of this world. Similar to some of the other comments, it would be nice to first come in, sit down, get relax then have someone take your order when dining in. However you place your order at the front door and then can sit down. The customer service lacked tremendously from the youthful stuff(late teens/very early 20's) But I will say the most underwhelming thing about this experience was the building. Inside & out it was very primitive & just flat out old. I know they just moved from another location and looking to get their foot in the door. But hopefully a renovation is in the plans. The inside is a bit of an eye soar. Needless to say, I would come back if in the area because of the food. But I wouldn't go out of my way patronize them.

He mentioned that if you're ordering appetizers, they should be ordered with the main meal. While we looked over the menu, water was offered. I ordered Blackened Catfish over brown rice and carrots. The catfish was tender and perfectly seasoned. My brother had grilled flounder with creamed corn. Like the catfish, the trout was tender and well-seasoned. The corn had a slight sweetness. Roger had Short ribs and mashed potatoes. The ribs were tender and did not need any sauce because they were seasoned well. We also ordered a side dish of Macaroni and Cheese. It was delicious! A mixture of Gouda cheese and other cheeses. Very creamy! The top layer cheese was baked perfectly! If you know, you know, it's all about the top layer of cheese The APPETIZERS: The Gumbo was spicy but delicious! You only taste the spice at the end . It's not overly spicy; it's just right. The fried chicken gizzards were tender but could have used a bit more seasoning. It was served over brown rice and gravy. If I'm not mistaken, there were maybe 8 or 9 gizzards. The fried green tomatoes were perfect! From the seasoning to the grilled shrimp on top. Oh yes, grilled shrimp with this delicious sauce drizzled over the tomatoes. 3 or 4 shrimp. They were delicious! I've never had fried green tomatoes served w/grilled shrimp--definitely a must-try if you've never had it. For dessert, pineapple upside-down cake with coconut cream on the side. It was soooo good! They could have removed the coconut cream, as it was not needed. And it was a shareable portion for 2-3 ppl. There were other desserts, such as Blueberry Cobbler, Key Lime Pie, and Vanilla Ice Cream. If you're in the Hyde Park area, give these folks a try Oh yeah, the Manager, Louis, was walking the floor. I spoke with him briefly From what I observed, it's a very casual dress code--jeans, shorts, blazers, etc. And I loved the quotes on the outside window of those who were killed, like George Floyd and Sandra Bland. This place was nice! The dining area was clean and decorated nicely. The choice of decor fit the overall scheme I look forward to visiting again, possibly next Spring.

Bc this food was so good , I'll give it a 5 but if you go be patient. It'll be worth the wait

I was very disappointed in the taste of the center piece lobster, though. My date got something else. I don't know how, but this place made Brussels sprouts taste good for a bit. Service was great. I like to be left alone for the most part, and they did just that. My waiter would pop in and out at the perfect moment. I would give the ambiance a 9/10. I loved the hints gold and the dark teal(?) wallpaper

I had the pineapple sweet potatoes & Mac & cheese for sides & yummmmm. The cornbread was also very good! It's not really a dine in restaurant although you can sit inside & eat. It was chill. The service was cool, they were working hard but still friendly. It's a little pricey but the amount of food makes up for it. I had enough to eat the next day & share lol.

The fish is fried well and the hot honey sauce was a good addition, but not amazing. Just regular hot sauce is good for the fish. The green beans are seasoned well and not spicy in my opinion. The mac and cheese was decent. Not award winning, but good. The pineapple sweet potatoes were fantastic! We ordered an extra side, but they forgot to include it. The initial delivery took so long that we didn't bother to ask for them to send it. The corn muffin was also really good! If you're visiting Chicago, I wouldn't say that this is a must-visit place. Check it out, if you have time!
