I wanted to update my review since my last time I was here and got a sausage sandwich to go. As I waited for my order, I looked in the dining room and saw the lasagne being served to a customer and vowed to myself that I would be back to try their lasagne. Tonight found me back in Ozark, Alabama on business and I headed here for dinner. I found a seat in the dining room and ordered the lasagne. The salad was brought out and was good, though I would hazard a guess that the dressing was not house made (though few restaurants do make their own). The lasagne was good, it was very good. It was loaded with meat and a great feast The sauce was great and the meal was a winner. Here are a few things I can wish for that could make this restaurant truly exceptional. The menu is a bit small. My go to dish in an Italian restaurant is veal parmigiana. Here they only offer pizza, spaghetti with either meatballs or sausage, manicotti, or lasagne. I also understand that a restaurant must offer what the community will allow for it to sustain being a regular item on the menu. Perhaps here simply cannot. I also wish they would take a stab at making their own meatballs. With those complaints aside, this is a great restaurant, especially considering it is located in the relatively small market of Ozark, Alabama. If you find yourself here, try this restaurant. read more

We were on the hunt for some Italian food in the Wiregrass area. This place did not disappoint. The pizza is great here. I did a build your own with jalapenos, black olives, and pineapple. Even though it was not listed as a pizza topping item I asked for fresh garlic and they came through. I really liked the flavor of the crust and sauce. It was not exactly thin crust but it was close. Another strong part of the meal was the dessert. Get the lemon cake. It was the right ratio of creamy and lemon tang. I could have eaten a few slices of this. My least favorite part of the meal was the Greek salad. It was nice sized and crisp, but it was missing a few items I usually associate with this type of salad like beets, green peppers, or some pepperchonis. It also had some water at the bottom. Our service from Kaylene was fantastic. She checked in with us each step of the meal. I will definitely come back to this restaurant. read more

I recently came here because I had a huge craving for pasta and meat sauce and I am so glad I came here. On our visit here, I had a side of meatballs as an appetizer (covered in delicious marinara and cheese and piping hot), the baked spaghetti (which hit the spot in every way imaginable) and the lemon cello marscarpone cake (absolutely and undeniably delicious). The meatballs were so flavorful and delicious. I think the next time I'm here I want to order them and with cheesy garlic bread and make a sandwich! The baked spaghetti was piping hot and perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was also a huge portion so I had enough for dinner and lunch the next day (it was somehow even better reheated). The lemoncello marscarpone cake was the best dessert I've had in a very long time. I'd make the drive out to Ozark from Dothan just for that cake! Have to wait and then over the next hour watched three other people who also called in their orders, walk in, pickup and pay then walk out. WTF. Apparently they hadn't even started cooking my order until I walked in. 2nd time called in order and happened AGAIN only this time I waited over an hour and when my pizza still wasn't ready after 2 and half hours AFTER order called in, I left. We love DiFilippo's! The pizza here is just so different than the norm. I also always order the cheese bread with the garlic butter sauce for dipping. It's so good! This hole-in-the-wall Pizza place is the real deal, owned and ran but folks of Italian descent, for over 50 years. The authentic pizzas are outstanding especially the Supreme with Pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. All fresh ingredients, veggies are local. Wow! The food was really good. I had the manicotti and it was piping hot and a very large portion. I will take the leftovers for lunch. Don't come if you are in a rush. What a great Yelp find. We were traveling and saw all the local cars so we had to stop. We waited a short bit but were seated fairly quickly. We spoke with the wife of the owner who told us the 50 year history of the restaurant. She explained the food items as we were looking for something on the lighter side while traveling. We had the Chicken Caprese Pizza and chef salad. It had the right amount of chicken, mozzarella, tomato and basil. It was amazing!!!!! The balsamic glaze made it. We also had the roast beef sub, again amazing. We were attended to by the waitress but the wife of the owner was also checking in on us. A family owned and operated place, be sure to stop by if you have a chance. She did say there is a long wait on the weekends for dining and carry out. We just happen to stop by on a Tuesday. Small restaurant, sometimes you may have to wait a few minutes for a table The pizzas is very good, I usually get the Gourmet White. However the sandwiches and meal are very good and the quantity requires a carry out box. The staff is very friendly and efficient. He didn't hesitate and said "DiFilippo's" We decided to make the drive for a carry out order to take back to the hotel My wife and I ordered a pizza with pepperoni and an order of lasagna. The pizza was so fresh and delicious but the real star was the lasagna. You could tell they use fresh ground beef and Italian sausage. The flavors just smack you in the face! I haven't eaten here since I graduated high school in '93. Back then I used to think that Mr. Difilippo had the best pizza that I had ever had. DiFilippo's Pizza is a nice family style restaurant with good pizza and good service cannot say it's the best pizza I've ever had but it is very adequate. Better than your average pizza stop like Dominoes or Pizza Hut. Service was friendly, I highly recommend Kaylene to be your server if she is working the night.
