Does not come with coleslaw. Five or six people lined up for their orders, while 1 woman ran the show by herself - taking the orders, prepping the food, taking payments, and taking orders over the phone. What a show! At one point, I heard a loud noise in the back so I took a peek; it was a cylinder placed on a stand at torso-height, and it was rumbling loud enough to wake the dead, while pouring water out the side into a sink. I thought, "ok, it's laundry." Even though I could not see where she was even using towels. After a few minutes, the woman went to the contraption and turned it off, and placed a metal bowl in the sink. When she opened the cylinder, it contained peeled potatoes!! Magic!! Then she very efficiently took each potato from the open contraption, using a knife, and put it in a french fry cutter bolted to the wall, and quickly cut long slivers of potatoes caught in the metal bowl. It was all very quick and efficient, as well as entertaining. This place, like so many post COVID, is take out only. However, there isn't room for tables here, even in better times. My portion of fish was tasty but small. But the meal was filling!! Here's the caveat: last year I compared pizza joints, and this year it's fish & chips. There's lots of competition!! Tim's is good, and the price is great! But the fish at Manollo in Brockville is better (it is also takeout only, and I've reviewed that too). So I would probably go back to Tim's coz it's very local and not bad. And I enjoyed the show!

It was walking by and noticed a familiar name, Lapointe. I have no idea if they're associated but I know it as a local seafood shop and restaurant. It's nice to see a local place open up here. I popped my head in and it's a little counter service spot that looks to specialize in fish and chips, with burgers and poutines as well. There is very limited seating, probably enough for about 8 people around the edges of the store. I had a scan of the menu and ordered the fish and chips. I mean it only makes sense to start here. I grabbed a seat and within 10 minutes my order was ready. I noticed the fish and chips batter looked different than most of the fish and chips I normally have. Not saying it's a good or bad thing just different. I tried the fries, pretty standard fare. It also came with a small coleslaw which was alright as well. I tried the fish next and it was alright. I think the batter was a bit harder and crunchier than I personally like but some of you will definitely love it. The order was about $16 and I'm unsure if that is standard price in town or in the market. Just letting you know the price. As I unfortunately had to make a trip to Kal Tire for some auto repairs, I happened upon his little diamond in the rough while I waited, and MAN was it spectacular. I ordered a simple poutine, and it was hands down one of the best I've had in years. Cheese was spread throughout (very pro), all the way to the bottom, and the gravy was of such great quality and taste that it could easily have been consumed directly with a straw, if socially acceptable. Should you wish to channel your inner Homer Simpson, bring the straw! After my first trip to this place, I have returned twice and tried multiple menu items, all of which were, so far, spectacular.
