A few folks recommended Digger's and we were intrigued. We called ahead for reservations and were told we'd be seated on the "balcony". (Oooooohhhh! Fancy!) Not so much. While the restaurant feels like a 1970s or earlier throw back-which is effectively kitschy-the balcony was less thank half a step up. If you're going to build something up on the phone, and call it a balcony, you've got to deliver. The food was decent, though a little pricey, but the drinks were good and strong. Cheese curds? YES! Crispy duck wings in Cranberry BBQ sauce? YES! I enjoyed the ribs, which our server swore they were known for, but they weren't the best I've ever had. They were certainly competent. The service was decent, but noticeably absent on several occasions. I'm not sure if they had a larger than expected crowd that night, but it was underwhelming for a place that advertised itself worthy of a second visit. It's funny to write this, but La Crosse has a pretty vibrant restaurant scene and Digger's Sting is going to have to step up its game if it wants to stay relevant. read more

It has 5 stars for a reason from the hostess that seated us even though we were almost an hour early for our reservation to the waitress that took great care of us and the bartender that made some Awesome old fashioned ! We did not have a reservation but were told we could eat at the bar. Went to the side bar and had a great celebration for my wifes BDay. Steaks and shrimp were amazing, drinks outstanding. Like all businesses they could use more workers but the workers that were there last night worked their tails off. All you have to do is sit at the bar to see the interaction the workers have with patrons and coworkers. Wife and I were very impressed. We definitely will be back next trip to Lacrosse. read more

First time here tonight for my son's 24th b-day. Had our heart set on steaks. 2 ribeyes and a prime rib. Had an Old Fashion before dinner and the pour was generous. The service was crisp and the courses well staged. We loved it BUT, I'm pretty sure these steaks are pan fried and then branded with grill marks. Delicious, but no crust. What a fun and unique place for higher end dining. Go back in time in this place. I recognize prior reviewers have suggested an update to decor, but I gotta say I love that retro feel. Hubs and I both tried their specials. He had a steak dish and I went for fried seafood. When they say fried... they mean fried. Like everything. I felt full after a few bites, and loved it all. Hubs had to help with the rest though. Service was top notch. Super friendly and very attentive. All safety measures well done during these COVID times. I would definitely return. Surprise surprise! Wandered in for a late afternoon cocktail and an appetizer. My first thought was this wasn't gonna be our dinner stop. Just a feeling. Ultimately we did order and viola, a ridiculously good experience. I had scallops and here's a word: perfect! I've eaten a seabeds worth of scallops and these were amongst the best ever. My wife's filet, well she eat the whole thing; our calendar is duly noted! Management tip: at this price point, the room needs to be freshened up. We almost walked because the decor is so dated. Got the steak salad with escargot as an appetizer. The escargot stated on the menu it came sans shell, which I had never had. I wouldn't get it that way again. It seemed to be missing something, but still decent. The salad was huge and delicious! And the other reviews aren't kidding-their garlic bread is To. Die. For. Bread makes my stomach super irritable and upset but I didn't care. I ate every last piece they brought me! The staff was friendly and the place definitely has the "old time supper club" feel, which I dig. There were many other wonderful sounding dishes on the menu so I will be back again! read more

Quick decisions are sometimes the best. We parked across the street and intended to walk down to the corner, but spotted the sign for bbq ribs and decided to try it. We asked for a table but we're told they were booked full (it was 4:35pm!) - however we could eat at the bar. We took a seat and looked around to see all the movie pics from The Sting on the walls. The atmosphere was old supper club and we couldn't wait to try the food. The menu was just two pages - not the eight page books that most restaurants offer. We each chose something different - top sirloin was delicious! Ribs were wonderful! Cod pieces were huge and came home with me for another meal! Smoked pork chop was juicy and flavorful! Sam the bartender/server was great, and we enjoyed watching him prep the drinks while telling us stories about the restaurant. Our quick pick was a winner!! They are sold out most nights, so plan ahead if you want a table. read more

Made a reservation via open table on May 11 for May 25th at 6:15 PM for three people to celebrate my wife's 75th Birthday. Arrived at 6:00PM on May 25th and was seated at a Two Top low Table right outside the kitchen. I asked the two hostesses for a standard Four Top Table and was told "This is the only table we have!! Asked to see the manager and whoever it is never showed up at our table, probably because they knew this was an improper table for 3 people. We sat and watched a number of other Four Tops stay empty for over 15 minutes. We left and went to Freight House and had a great table and meal after a 5 minute wait. After 30 years of patronage we will not be returning to Digger's because of the attitude of the hostesses and lack of owner or management. read more

One of the best dinners I have had in awhile! Loved every single part of my meal. From the garlic bread which is extremely buttery and crispy. The filet was tender and juicy; cooked to perfect. The shrimp was super flavorful. The veggies were awesome. Also for dessert the tiramisu is a must have. So light and fluffy! Had such an awesome experience here. My hubby and I ventured to third street and stumbled our way into diggers. Looked like a dive bar on the outside, but turns out to be a pretty nice (and busy) destination on the weekends. We were informed once we walked in that they were booked for the night, but were more than welcome to eat at the bar. Of course we took that offer! We started with the snow crab artichoke dip (as recommend by our bartender) and while I am not the biggest seafood fan, my hubby really enjoyed it! We then got our ceasar salads which were crisp and delicious. Next up was a filet (melted in your mouth), and prime rib - both served with mashed potatoes. AMAZING!!! Me and hubby didn't speak for awhile because we were busy stuffing our faces. Only reason for the 4 stars VS 5 stars is because we are HARD critics - this place is a MUST visit if you are in La Crosse. read more

But wait, there's more: the food here is killer. Tender filet mignon, topped with lump crab meat and a perfectly executed beurre blanc sauce. Scallops seared to tender and not a whit more. Top sirloin, cooked perfectly medium rare. That basket of garlic toast, so addictive it's eaten in a flash. A fairly priced wine list with something for everyone. This past weekend I ate at Digger's Sting two nights in a row, and if I didn't have to return home to MN I'd be eating there tonight. My wife and I were in town celebrating our anniversary and the area has many good dining options which have been good in the past. I wanted to take her some place like a Midwest supper club and found this option coming up in my searches. We had the best meal eating out in years at Diggers Sting! Steaks were cooked perfectly, service from Nick could not have been better and the atmosphere on the dining room has made this one of our new favorites on a short list within 90 miles of home. This is the first time I've spent more than $200.00 on our meals and then asked or actually told to leave because they wanted our table. I wished I hadn't already left a $50.00 tip. This absolutely ruined what should have been a very nice dining experience. And the food wasn't that good to top it all off as well. We won't be back. read more

The food is what makes this place 5 stars. We always have excellent meals here. Last visit I had the ribeye and it was the best steak I've ever had at a restaurant. If you eat low carb, you can get all stir fry veg on the side instead of veg and potato choice. Consistently great meals. The staff is good. There is a new male waiter that is very good, he is efficient and down to earth. Word is spreading...make a reservation on a busy night!!! I still think they have an issue getting customers seated effeciently, again I saw empty tables for my entire meal (an hour?) and customers without reservations turned away. I'd love to see a small part of the front turned into a swanky seating area for waiting. The few tables you would give up might be extra drink & appetizer sales for waiting guests. You could cram a lot of waiting customers in one of those front nooks. I noticed the customers who were told they had to wait usually just left. The new management is doing a great job. The ladies bathroom make over is beautiful. The entire restaurant is nicely done, they kept all the Diggers charm. But the 5 star food does not match the 2 star decorations. I think groups of candles or single stems of flowers in small vases (roses and carnations will last at least a week if you give them fresh water every few days) are much more upscale than the dollar store Valentine decorations I noticed last visit. I want to end on a high note because I do believe this is the BEST restaurant in downtown LaCrosse. Every meal has been 5 star food for us. If you haven't been to Digger's in the last few years with the new changes, you need to go check it out. read more

As amazing as it gets. Wonderful drinks-I like the Sophia Lauren. The atmosphere is classic movie swank. It looks like a DIVE outside, but it is so worth going in--GO IN! I always get the filet (because its ZOMG good) or the fresh fish special. They serve escargots, but the thing that makes me go SQUEE! is this Garlic Bread. I don't know what they do to it, but it is A-MAZ-ING! People talk about Piggy's, Freighthouse, and Waterfront (and I eat often at these places and they are great), but for me--the HANDS DOWN best food in town and best steak for sure is DIGGERS!!!! PS-they have the best waitress in town by far. I always forget her name but she has long dark hair and is wonderful. Perfect timing, impeccable service, wonderful recommendations.
