So Geek Squad and their lack of customer service was a BIG NO! I like to support small local business's. I had never needed computer help before. I found Chris from a quick search on Maps and Yelp. I called Chris and he was very quick to offer solutions and ideas to solve my problem. I dropped off the computer and left it to him to resolve while I was out of town. Chris was very quick, very responsive and was communicating options quickly. Essentially, within 36 hrs of dropping off my laptop, he had installed new hardware, software that he recommended and I approved. He stayed within my budget and his original quote. He provided me with a lightening fast upgraded computer, with all of my files and programs, turn key, ready to work on. I cannot believe the computer is the same I dropped off. If you are curious if you should call Chris for help with your computer needs/repairs, just make the call and let him work his magic. I am completely satisfied with the service and product. A…read morefriend of my daughter found Sam's Repair on Facebook Marketplace as someone who was selling refurbished MacBook laptops (It wasn't even listed on Yelp. I had to add the business to check-in and write the review). We originally went in to Sam's to purchase a used MacBook. When we went in and explained what we had and what we were doing, he encouraged us to not buy the one he had for sale but suggested we let him look at ours first to see if it was repairable. We had already upgraded the memory to a 1TB solid-state drive and it was much better than what he was selling. We left (Saturday) and returned on Monday with our laptop. He said since we were coming from so far away (League City) that we could wait while he looked at it. We hung out for an hour and he actually was able to fix the motherboard. He explained what he did but honestly it was over my head. I'm just glad it is working. The laptop he was selling was $550. He fixed ours for less than half that cost and warranted the work for 3 months. Granted, I'm writing this review a few short hours after the repair. Assuming the repair holds, he deserves the five stars. If for some reason that changes, I'll update my review. As for now, we are very pleased.

He told me he needed to keep it for several days while he waited for a "specially made" replacement part from the manufacturer, and charged me hundreds of dollars for the repair. When I got the laptop back, the screen technically worked, but the graphics quality was noticeably worse. Everything looked gray and washed out, whereas the original screen was sharp, vibrant, and had much better color. I checked the computer's work log and found that the replacement screen had actually been installed less than an hour after I originally dropped the laptop off. That made his story about needing several days to wait for a special manufacturer part extremely concerning. It appeared that a generic screen he already had in the office was used instead. I paid hundreds of dollars based on what I was told about the repair and the part being ordered. Finding out afterward that the work log told a very different story was incredibly frustrating. Be very careful and ask questions about exactly what parts are being installed and when. I would not recommend this experience.
