Do you miss being able to shop for everything in one place? When was the last time you stepped into a Dillard's? For me, it was a solid ten years ago. But that all changed a few weeks ago. Wow. While the physical store itself may be a little outdated, it was clean, organized, and they've got modern and trendy clothing for ALL ages. I was told one thing by two sales associates concerning returns after Christmas and when the return needed to be made, I was told that it was my fault that I missed the return window by the manager of the store. I was told it would not be a problem as long as I had my receipt by 2 separate associates. No refund. No exchange. No gift card. The items were in perfect condition, tags attached and I had my receipt. My 85 year old mother became ill and could not come to my house for Christmas so I had to drive her presents 4 hours to her and then bring back the 2 items that did not work out. There was no compassion for the extenuating circumstance. I explained to them that I always drive 45 minutes to get to their store because shopping local is important! The mall is full of empty stores because of online shopping. They did not seem to care and were quite rude. I went to the women's Dillards at Barton Creek Mall today to get a prom dress. The dresses were gorgeous and affordable but man, was the service terrible. Each employee was snarky and rude. These weren't even teenagers but middle aged women. While waiting in line the woman infront of me who was checking out was literally telling the woman at the counter that she didn't like how the customers were being treated so no, it isn't in my head. The lady at the counter didn't apologize or anything, only said "okay." Who are they hiring? It was unbelievable. My card had declined at first because I had made a big purchase (a nice dress) and my account thought it was fraud so I had to click a button on my end so it'd go through. No big deal. It went through and she made a snide remark saying something like "I can see you don't make big purchases." Like insinuating I'm broke. Before this they weren't helping and when we'd ask or others would they'd just have an awful attitude and act like we were all stupid. BUYER BEWARE: they do not do returns for any strollers, car seats, car seat bases even if you ordered online. Mind you everything is unopened and just bought 5 days prior. They have a 30day return policy. This location in particular makes their own rules and regulations. I asked the employee there and they couldn't give an explanation. Just said we just don't do returns on them...ok? When I first arrived I had to lug a heavy box from one side of the Dillards that did not do returns to the other location of the mall just for them to say they cannot accept returns. The worst store ever with the worst management ! I had not been to Dillard's in years and now I know why. I was given a gift of several pieces of clothing. All but one did not fit. I wanted to do an exchange for the one blouse and went up to counter with another blouse I found in my walk all the way around the top floor because there were no registers opened. I found a young girl which seemed to be new with a manager, older hispanic lady who was having a snack with what seemed to be a family or friend visiting her. I said I wanted to exchange the blouse. The girl started a return but then the manager said it could not be an even exchange. The blouse I chose was about $1.00 less than the one I was buying which I didn't realize at the time. The manager said i would be responsible for the difference in cost -- me thinking it was a little more expensive and ofcourse like any where that was fine. She ask for my credit card for balance and when I got receipt she charged me the full cost. She then said she returned the money to the card on the receipt (card nor person was with me) even though I said I wanted to exchange. I had to wait 15 minutes to get a refund on my credit card -so I got no blouse. Instead of making this a teaching moment for the cashier -- she got on the phone on a personal call right there in the clothing area. I told her I was upset and that taking a call was the reason the issue occurred and she stated she got on the call after not before. I will never shop at that Dillards again. I remember Dillards being a nice high end shop -- not anymore. They have the most unprofessional managers. read more

My niece wanted to look for prom dresses here, and they have a nice selection in lots of styles and sizes, and the prices were very reasonable, mostly in the $175-300 range. The reason for the low rating is that the sales associates were very unhelpful. Finding a fitting room was nearly impossible, and we were directed to one very far away because the others were "closed." Well, we went to the far away one, and after about 20 min of trying on, the sales associate in that area literally took a cardboard box, wrote CLOSEd on it, and stuck it in the door. When asked why, she said that fitting room was only for that area and that we needed to find another. Nobody was ill behaved, and nobody was waiting for an open stall in the fitting room. We were just trying to find a special dress. The sales associate just didn't want to deal with customers using the fitting room, even though were explicitly directed to that one. I called the store number and the store management was helpful in finding an open fitting room. Shopping for something like a prom dress should be, above all things, fun. The Dillard's sales team somehow sucked all of the joy from the experience, and for what? If actually going to a Department store isn't even pleasant, why would people even bother to go in person? read more

Note the 30% off sign six inches from the item (on the same shelf) Cashier says its not on sale Manager accuses ME of moving the purse to get a better price I work retail, and yes people try to steal, swindle, and talk their way into a better deal. While I would have made an attempt to make the sale offering something to accommodate the guest; she tries to paint a Ben Matlock courtroom tale about how I staged the item for the discount. Service is very poor. I was In the store for quite awhile, carrying clothes to try on, and the saleswoman in the Free People section never acknowledged my presence. There were no other customers around when I was shopping. I had to go find her and ask her if I could try on the clothes I was carrying. She was at the register, leaning over the counter and scrolling through her phone. I asked to use a dressing room, she slowly looked up at me and turned to go for the dressing rooms. She unlocked the room and walked away. She never once say WORD to me. She only looked at me with an ugly expression because I interrupted her Tik Tok viewing. I went to the Barton Creek Square mall looking to buy men's shoes. After not finding any to my liking at Macy's and Nordstrom, I'm very happy that I checked out the men's shoes department at this Dillard's. It has a large selection overall and many more options in the middle of the range from casual to dressy ... the kinds of comfortable but nice looking shoes you can wear to work everyday (brands like Ecco, Cole Haan, Steve Madden, Johnston and Murphy). The woman in the shoe department (I think Anessa was her name) was super helpful, quickly brought out many pairs to try, and made sure I went home with a great pair. While walking out of the store I noticed nice sections for men's suits and outerwear focused on quality brands. I'll definitely come back to this Dillard's for shoes and more. read more

CREEPY WORKER! Today my daughters and i visited dillards in hopes of finding shoes and a dresses for a special event. I walk around the store looking for fitting rooms(none were open) i only find one and it was behind an associates desk. My 15 yr daughter changing in the fitting room i see somebody peaking through the door. It was alarming since im in the middle of putting my clothes back on , there shouldn't be anybody trying to peak since other fitting rooms were open. After i was done trying my clothes on i see the lady that worked there start peaking inside all of the fitting rooms with people in there. I saw her and i immediately did the same thing on an empty fitting room to see if you could see inside. YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING!! After this the lady comes again to do this and i tell her to please stop doing that because you can see through there and it's uncomfortable. I told her its best to just knock instead of scaring people. The woman gets agitated quickly and says "im just looking , i cant see anything" in a rude and annoyed tone. I don't know why we don't shop here more but we will now. My poor little wife was desperate for a new bathing suit and she's been everywhere in town. Mis-matched, poor size selection (she has a big top :) and very limited selection. You know how it is, summer is almost OVER in Texas so no new merchandise. Re: Bridal Registry Dillard's has the worst bridal registry customer service. A girlfriend registered mostly pajamas for her bridal shower registry. The online shipping fee would've been $10. I had to go to the dinnerware section to print out her registry, even though she didn't register any dinnerware. I printed out the category, $25 and under, at the kiosk. Their registry printout isn't intuitive like Macy's, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, or Target. There's nowhere on the printout that tells you which section to go to. There were several selections listed in the $25 and under category, which listed the price as N/A. When the first sales associate walked me to the Eileen West section, it was clear all the nightgowns started at $68. She had no clue how to look up the correct size or UPC number. Then she told me that I needed to scan it myself to take it off the registry upon checkout. What? I don't have a scanner. You do. She was clueless so she said she would get a second sales associate to help me. The second sales associate was just as clueless. I told her the Eileen West selections listed on the printout were not $25 and under, as described. She randomly wanted me to pick an Eileen West nightgown on the clearance rack. I had to explain to her that I can't pick a random item, with a random UPC code not listed on the registry. She walked away with the printout to ask for help. When she returned, she asked, "Oh! Did you find something?" I said, "No, because you have the registry printout with the UPC numbers. How am I supposed to know which item is on the registry?" She walked back to the register and it was clear she wouldn't figure it out anytime soon. I offered to walk to customer service. "Yes, please go to customer service", she said. Another associate standing next to her told her she should have called the manager a long time ago. Waste of my time. This is why I never shop at Dillard's unless I have no choice. I walked to customer service and she didn't know, but she was very helpful. She had a positive attitude of wanting to learn and paged three managers, two of who were out to lunch. The third manager was the only person on the entire floor who knew how to scan a registry item at checkout, to remove it off the list. The manager forgot to print a gift receipt, but at least it had the sticker. The customer service associate did a really good job of complimentary gift wrapping, apologized for my poor experience, and wished me a blessed day. Thank you! At the bridal shower, there were duplicate presents because sales associates at both the Domain and Barton Creek didn't know how to scan and remove items off a registry! Guests walked out the store after paying because they couldn't find someone to scan and remove items. Poorly trained staff everywhere! TL;DR Order the bridal registry gift online with a pick up in store option to save $10 on shipping. Walk to the customer service section on the second floor to pick it up. **This review is specific to the Chanel cosmetics counter** BUYER BEWARE I just witnessed the most upsetting interaction between the sales representative (Charles) and a Chanel customer. This customer was of a darker complexion and when the customer asked to see the foundation selection Charles replied with "Sweetie I do not think we have your color here." The customer replied by saying that she has been using Chanel products for over 10 years and although they do have a limited selection they DID in fact have her foundation match here. The customer did not ask him for his help swatching colors she asked to see the foundation selection that was all. Watching this interaction left me with the most disgusting taste in my mouth and now I have to drive to the domain to get my products because I refuse to allow Charles to take any of my money. I was in the shoe section looking at shoes and the sales person asked everyone around me if they wanted to try on the shoe they were checking out and deliberately ignored me. Both times I'd be standing right next to another customer, and the sales person would come up right NEXT to me and ask the other customer if they'd like to try the shoe on. One customer was actually spooked because the salesperson asked her so LOUDLY. That's how obvious the salesperson was in ignoring me. I purchased a blazer and pants from the Murano collection and had the sleeves, pants, and blazer sides altered. The sales person was very friendly and helpful. The seamstress was nice and she too the measurements quickly. I was told the alterations would be covered except for the sleeves which would be $25 in cash. The suit was promised to me by the 30th (I needed it before the 10th of the following month.) when it was ready I got a text message saying the suit was ready and it would be $45. I texted back reminding them we'd agreed to $25. They said it was more for a rush job. I came back in store to pick it up and found the same sales rep who quoted the $25. He said he remembered and wasn't sure where the miscommunication occurred. I paid the $25 in cash and tried on the blazer. The sleeves were much too short for my taste. So I asked if they could be fixed. The sales rep said yes of course and that it would be ready the following day. Three days later the blazer was ready and the sleeves looked awful. I feel traumatized by their Women's store employees, profiling and abusive treatment, after we bought shoes, expensive Ugg boots and clothes in their other children's store, thirty minutes earlier. We were not treated like that in the children's store. We will be returning everything. Dillard's owes us an apology for their mistreatment. "Other duties as assigned" can be used for such evil and malicious purposes, it fills me with terror just penning the words. For me, thoughts of manual labor or having to perform menial tasks for someone else' pleasure is the stuff that gives my nightmares shape. However, sometimes this little phrase works wonders when validating a quick trip out of the office to help my friend L find a bridesmaid's dress at the mall. Twist my arm. I like this Dillard's; always have. It's certainly not as sparkly and glittery as The Domain, but they have a decent mix of products from their different lines, spanning all the departments. As soon as we walked in, L said I could go browsing wherever I wanted to, which was quite welcomed. Contrary to the stereotype, I really don't like helping girls pick out clothes. Mostly because for a lot of girls, shopping can be this huge, dramatic emotional roller coaster of an event that can stretch for hours and yield no results. Or maybe I'm just scarred from shopping with my mother. Conversely, I also prefer to shop for clothes myself without any outside influence; I know what looks fabulous, and I don't need anyone pressuring me or invading my space or making me spend money on crap I'll return. So, chalk that up to another "But I thought all gay guys liked doing that" cliche, and let's move along. The fine china department always draws me in like a moth to a flame, or in this case a flamer to upscale dinnerware. I glanced at the Kate Spade pattern my friend had registered for her wedding, and it was this adorable pattern with silver polka dots. And then, from across the room, I saw a china pattern I haven't seen in years. (And yes, there was an audible gay gasp). My parents own 8-place settings of the Lenox "Autumn" pattern, which had been introduced in 1918, but retired long ago. It's a gorgeous old guard pattern with beautiful floral motifs and the jeweled colors of autumn flowers; "a classic Lenox tradition that continues to appeal to every generation". Of course it does. I only care about it so much, because it'll be mine someday. An extremely nice older salesman asked if he could help, and I asked if I could see a price list of accent pieces. He confessed it was his fifth day on the job, and that I'd have to speak to the head saleslady, Rita. While we waited, he asked what I was looking for, and I responded that I was toying with the idea of buying a matching platter or teapot for my parents for Christmas. Somehow it got around that I would be inheriting their collection later on, so he came out and laughed and said "So you're basically buying a gift for yourself?" Well...yes. Great. Now even strangers think I'm a greedy asshole. Finally, Rita was more than happy to give me a printout from an early 90's computer with the complete price list. I asked her when "Autumn" had returned, and she responded that it had only recently, at the request of Julie Nixon Eisenhower, President Nixon's daughter. Apparently, it was her wedding china. Rita was quite helpful, and informative to boot. It was time to reconnoiter with L at the Clinique counter. She found a nice Ralph Lauren dress, but what she was really dying for was Clinique's current free gift with purchase. I asked if there was something in particular about the gift she wanted, and she bluntly responded "No, I just want the damn free gift." We let the aggressive saleswoman take a few minutes to push $50 face cream on her AND me, which is always not very fun to deal with when you aren't in the mood to buy. But hey, that's their job. A $21.50 moisturizer purchase later, and L owned a new base, lipstick, eyeliner, brush, and a nifty makeup bag. We thought about bringing our coworker back lunch from the food court, but it was too far away from us and hello--the food court? 4 Stars for the Barton Creek Dillard's, both for solid brands and solid service. read more
