Never 1 problem taking dogs and horses there, everyone is as friendly as you'd expect from a small town area.

I checked their website, and realized that I personally knew Lee Panko from about 23 years ago when I lived in Tekamah, NEbraska. I had a farm there, and Lee's father Arlyn had kept some cattle on my land. Lee had come out with his dad to feed and tend their cattle. They always took great care of their cattle, and even helped me with fencing for my horses. OK, fast forward.. Last Thursday, I took my Mini Aussie in because she got really sick. She was vomiting, and couldn't keep food or water down. I have been furloughed because of COVID, and my finances were really stretched. Lee was more concerned about my Maddie than the money. Lee told me we could work it out, and took care of her. He examined her, xrayed her, and gave her meds, and antibiotics. After a few days, she was still in trouble, Lee felt that the antibiotic was not agreeing with her, and changed it. He went into his office late Saturday night, and got me the new meds for her, and gave me more recommendations to do for her. By Monday, Maddie was eating and drinking again. Conclusion: Maddie was100% better by Monday. It is not about the money for Lee, or his staff. They genuinely care about the animals they are treating, and their customers. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The staff is courteous and professional, they have a passion for animals, and the Dr's are good at what they do. I will always trust them with my pets.

Knew to the second when our boy would come out of sedation. Since Austin German Shepherd Rescue also uses this vet office, who better to take care of my GSD's health care than Dr. Daigle? So why not a perfect five? With the exception of the vet tech that got assigned to assist with our appointment, the rest of the staff is another story. I emailed the office requesting an appointment since the phone line was busy. Two days later, I still hadn't heard from the office, so I called and actually got through to make an appointment. I filled out all the online forms and had all of my boy's medical records emailed over. We arrive for the appointment & the tech starts asking me questions that I'd already thoughtfully & completely provided online prior to appointment date. It was a waste of my time to follow instructions online only to have to repeat the process in person. In this, the office could use an organizational overhaul. Now my boy is reactive: fear, leash & fence; with a very high prey drive. Rather than showing me a compassionate smile, I could see the staff rolling their eyes at each other, just a total lack of empathy. I could also say, better competent than good bedside manner but, as this was our first appointment, the former still remains to be seen.

I am extremely disappointed with how Bastrop Veterinary Hospital handled my dog's appointment…read moretoday. My dog is a Great Dane with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and congestive heart failure. He is essentially on hospice care and takes more than 30 medications a day. Because of his severe heart condition, his cardiologist has instructed that he cannot be vaccinated due to the risk to his heart. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital already knows this. My dog has been treated there before, including earlier this year when they performed tests that were ordered by his cardiologist. They have our account, his medical history, and all of this information on file. I scheduled a nail trim appointment because my dog is in pain from overgrown nails and he will not allow me to trim them at home. I explained his medical condition in the appointment notes and that he is reactive and would need to be handled carefully. Before the appointment, the clinic even called and left a voicemail reminding me to give him anxiety medication before coming in. I still had trazodone from a previous visit, so I medicated him 90 minutes before the appointment exactly as instructed. Getting him to the clinic is not easy. Car rides are extremely stressful for him because of his advanced heart disease. I specifically chose this clinic because it is close to my home and minimizes that stress. When we arrived, I told them I would wait in the car because he does not do well around other dogs. They initially agreed. However, they then brought me inside and had me wait in the lobby anyway while they prepared a room, which immediately put him into a stressful situation I had asked to avoid. When they finally took him to the back, I placed a muzzle on him and tightened it to make sure he could not get it off so that staff would be safe. They told me it would only take a moment. Six minutes later, someone came out with a clipboard and told me they could not perform the nail trim because he is not vaccinated. This was shocking and extremely frustrating. They already knew my dog's medical history. They had treated him previously without vaccinations because of his severe heart condition. They had just called me beforehand to ensure he was medicated for the visit. Yet no one bothered to mention that they would refuse treatment once I arrived. Instead, they let me go through the process of medicating a critically ill dog, putting him through the stress of a car ride, muzzling him, and waiting, only to tell me after the fact that they wouldn't help him. My dog is in pain because his nails cannot be trimmed safely at home, which is exactly why I brought him to professionals. If the clinic had simply called ahead of time and said they could not perform the service, that would have been understandable. Instead, they put a very sick dog through unnecessary stress and wasted our time. It was incredibly disappointing and frankly unacceptable.
