My dog is a Great Dane with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and congestive heart failure. He is essentially on hospice care and takes more than 30 medications a day. Because of his severe heart condition, his cardiologist has instructed that he cannot be vaccinated due to the risk to his heart. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital already knows this. My dog has been treated there before, including earlier this year when they performed tests that were ordered by his cardiologist. They have our account, his medical history, and all of this information on file. I scheduled a nail trim appointment because my dog is in pain from overgrown nails and he will not allow me to trim them at home. I explained his medical condition in the appointment notes and that he is reactive and would need to be handled carefully. Before the appointment, the clinic even called and left a voicemail reminding me to give him anxiety medication before coming in. I still had trazodone from a previous visit, so I medicated him 90 minutes before the appointment exactly as instructed. Getting him to the clinic is not easy. Car rides are extremely stressful for him because of his advanced heart disease. I specifically chose this clinic because it is close to my home and minimizes that stress. When we arrived, I told them I would wait in the car because he does not do well around other dogs. They initially agreed. However, they then brought me inside and had me wait in the lobby anyway while they prepared a room, which immediately put him into a stressful situation I had asked to avoid. When they finally took him to the back, I placed a muzzle on him and tightened it to make sure he could not get it off so that staff would be safe. They told me it would only take a moment. Six minutes later, someone came out with a clipboard and told me they could not perform the nail trim because he is not vaccinated. This was shocking and extremely frustrating. They already knew my dog's medical history. They had treated him previously without vaccinations because of his severe heart condition. They had just called me beforehand to ensure he was medicated for the visit. Yet no one bothered to mention that they would refuse treatment once I arrived. Instead, they let me go through the process of medicating a critically ill dog, putting him through the stress of a car ride, muzzling him, and waiting, only to tell me after the fact that they wouldn't help him. My dog is in pain because his nails cannot be trimmed safely at home, which is exactly why I brought him to professionals. If the clinic had simply called ahead of time and said they could not perform the service, that would have been understandable. Instead, they put a very sick dog through unnecessary stress and wasted our time. It was incredibly disappointing and frankly unacceptable.

I had Blood work and X-rays done from a petco total care hospital in Austin but no actual help from them. Dr. Maynard and Crossroads Animal Hospital is the sole reason my dog Diego will be okay. He is very knowledgeable and truly cares about helping animals. He doesn't waste your time, or your money. He does what's necessary to help, and is honest. He told me very quickly he could feel something in Diego's intestine and let me know we need to do surgery. Due to how long Diego had been sick, waiting another day could have risked infection and other issues so Dr. Maynard made time to give Diego surgery the same day. I don't know what would have happened if it weren't for them. I am truly grateful for the care and help I received. Everyone here was so nice and helpful. I will forever bring my animals here.

The vet and I went over the ER hospital's report together slowly and found that it was my dog's bones that were causing him such extreme pain that he was uncontrollably drooling. The Vet was thorough, kind, and understanding. He took his time to find the problem and a solution, which is what I appreciate the most. Pain meds were given to help aid my dog in his healing process. Thanks to him my dog is walking, running and wagging his tail again.

From beginning to the end, the customer service was superb and professional. I would highly recommend this business and work with Morgan (if you can) to get your pet processed as she had amazing customer service (more on that later). Once your pet passes or if you know its almost their time, you can call Heavenly Paws to do a service order intake or you can simply fill out the form online. It's pretty straight forward to populate. I opted to have them pick up my pet from my home (there is a fee), but you also have the option of dropping them off or meeting up at the local vet/pet hospitals for pick up. Please note: Heavenly Paws does not do the euthanasia, go to your vet if you choose this route. They were very respectful pickings up your pet and they also use a coin tagging system to ensure through and through that your pet is processed altogether. I opted to pick up my pet from Heavenly Paws and the service was completed as promised (typical 3-4 week lead time). I was met with the utmost professionalism and great customer service by Morgan. She was so patient and informative. She broke down the whole cremation process and explained every detail. It made me at ease knowing they put forth the best respect to your pet and their service. We were able to pick several options and she even offered us some "trials" to see if he would eat them before spending the money on the larger bags.
