This review is for takeout only from Dining Yamamoto, as I had originally pre-scheduled a takeout order, not realizing they had already opened for dine-in as well, and I'm now even more excited to come back for lunch or dinner in person. I arrived about 15 minutes early for pickup and my order was already beautifully prepared and ready to go. I was greeted by who I believe was Chef Yamamoto himself, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. When I got home after about a 20 minute trip, I was immediately impressed by how thoughtfully everything was packaged and arranged. Each item even came with a note recommending that it be enjoyed within 2 hours for the best flavor, which really speaks to how much care goes into every detail. I ordered the Chef's Choice Premium 10 Piece Nigiri, the Negitoro & Hon Maguro, and the Japanese Style Salad, and everything was outstanding. The premium nigiri set included o-toro with black truffle, seared salmon toro, madai with uni and caviar, zuke hon maguro, and amaebi, and every piece was excellent. The flavors, textures, portions, cuts, and temperatures were all top-tier, especially considering it was takeout. I also really appreciated the wasabi, ginger, and bonus pickled vegetables included with the order. I especially agree with another reviewer who wished the fried heads for the amaebi were included, since that is one of my absolute favorite parts of eating that shrimp. That said, the quality of the fish itself was so high that it was still an incredible meal. For anyone looking for a truly special home-akase experience, I can't recommend Dining Yamamoto highly enough!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? I'll go first: Sushi. Because there is SO much variety! You can use all sorts of fish, seafood, wagyu, veggies, and more. Only in my dreams tho! Cuz let's be real, sushi will break your wallet. And, the ones that don't break your wallet, may break your porcelain throne. If you're looking for high-quality sushi crafted by a Japanese chef...that won't break your wallet too bad: Dining Yamamoto. Takeout only (similar to AJi Kiji) but it seems they have several tables for dine-in? M E N U Soft opening menu: - Seared Chutoro Don ($29) and Bara Chirashi Don ($28) Full menu will roll out next week: - Nigiri boxes, rolls, and don ($19-$57) F O O D * Bara Chirashi Don ($28) A bed of properly prepared sushi rice scattered with a medley of chutoro, sake, hamachi, hon maguro, ikura, unagi, uni, and tamago. The sushi rice was on point - room temp, sticky with distinct grains, and lightly seasoned. Each bite was fresh, light, and satisfying. Made little wraps with roasted seaweed wraps at home. * Seared Chutoro Don w/ black truffe soy and crispy garlic ($28) Six slices of lightly seared, buttery medium fatty bluefin tuna crowned with freshly shaven black truffle, and served alongside finely cut tamago and nori. The black truffle soy adds a savory sweet umami, while crispy garlic gave a satisfying textural contrast. S E R V I C E Warm, welcoming, and gracious. Overall, Dining Yamamoto is a welcome addition to the SoMa/Mid-Market area serving upscale omakase-level sushi for those on the go. Considering sandwiches are going for $20-$25 in the city, why not treat yourself to something more special?

Dining Yamamoto is part of a mini wave of high end take out sushi joints popping up in SF. Their instaworthy Chirashi Sushi Donburi tastes as good as it looks. The beautifully presented fish and seafood is so fresh it almost swims into your mouth. The pickled veggies add a nice crunch. They even throw in a few seaweed squares for DIY hand rolls. Yum!

Dining Yamamoto is such an amazing new addition to the SF sushi scene! I got their takeout recently and the fish was so fresh and presented beautifully. The prices were fair for the quality, and the service is so friendly. I will definitely be back!

I ordered the Kaisen Chirashi Donburi for pick up through their website. It was beautifully presented. The selection was fresh. The uni was sweet and creamy and I loved that they included nori sheets to wrap the rice and fish. The only thing that could have made it better was to include the fried shrimp head as some restaurants do, but even without it, it was a delicious meal. It's too bad I missed their soft opening specials by a few days late.

Great Chirashi bowl . The fish is fresh and the presentation is amazing. The portions are great. The guy who served me was not very knowledgeable I had to ask for the seaweed wraps for my food . He later warmed up and became more conversational. The place is not very big but it's comfortable. I recommend visiting them and experience the delicious difference in their food.

We celebrated my husbands birthday dinner at this new Japanese spot, and it turned out to be such a special experience. From the moment we walked in, the energy felt welcoming and thoughtful but what truly stood out was the chef. He was incredibly friendly, engaging with us in a way that made the evening feel personal rather than just another dinner reservation. The sushi itself was stunning--almost too beautiful to eat. Each piece felt carefully crafted, with vibrant colors, delicate garnishes, and a clear attention to detail. Beyond presentation, everything tasted fresh. Even the vegetarian options and sides were well executed and didn't feel like an afterthought. The vegetarian lover plate was too pretty and creative. We had miso soup , salad , chefs recommended nigiri sushi and roll , tuna lovers and spicy tuna and salmon . It was all delicious ! All in all, it was one of those meals where the combination of great food, warm hospitality, and beautiful presentation made the occasion feel even more memorable . we'll definitely be back again soon to try more dishes off the menu .

Came in during the soft opening before the official opening with a bigger menu. I got the Chu-Toro Steak Donburi and Bara-Chirashi Donburi. It was a limited time. The week after was going to be a different menu. It was all prepackaged so quick pick-up. There's seats inside to eat. I looovvveeeee sushi so this was GREAT for me. I heard about it from this site. https://sf.eater.com/restaurant-news/211721/dining-yamamoto-restaurant-opening-san-francisco-soma I work close by and feel like there isn't many great sushi choices besides poke so this is such a gift for me.... All I can say is... take my money!

Wow, this place is incredible. The freshness of the fish and wasabi was incredible. Outstanding food. I'm so glad I experienced this early. Don't sleep on it. Have some patience, it was two people managing serving and cooking. You can really see and taste the passion for the food here.

Wow! This is BY FAR the best take out sushi in the Bay Area. It's better than both Ebiko and Aji Kiji. The service is fast, staff is nice, and sushi so fresh. Thick slices, great prices. Highly recommended

This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! Wait time: Not an extremely long wait between ordering and receiving food and drink. A buzzer is given to you which rings when your food is completed. Food: The yuzu salmon onigiri had a decent serving of salmon inside and on top of the rice. Good salmon flavor but slightly lacking in yuzu flavor. Chicken Curry onigiri: a mild curry flavor which again had a decent rice to chicken ratio. The chicken did taste slightly dry despite the curry sauce likely due to the nature of being a ground meat. Matcha Latte c Pistachio Cream was easily one of the best tasting matcha drinks I have had in SF. The matcha had a strong flavor and the pistachio cream did not overpower the taste of the matcha. There was a nice sweet, slightly salty, and pistachio flavor from the cream and the addition of the crushed pistachios was not a weird texture for the drink. I would definitely be interested in trying more of their matcha beverages due to quality and size of drink compared to cost.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
