Just wow! We came as a party of 2 and sat at their counter for a lunch time omakase experience. It was relatively quiet and empty but we enjoyed that. Staff there were attentive of food allergies and we felt very welcomed. Their fish is so fresh! Definitely worth a try. Parking wasn't too hard in the area either.

    Sashimi Sunomono, Bara Chirashi (L)

Ordered from Doordash. It was packaged well and everything arrived intact. I ordered the Bara Chirashi (L) and got the Sashimi Sunomono as a free add-on. The Bara Chirashi (L) box was beautifully arranged. I did feel the portion size was a bit small but after eating, I did feel somewhat satiated. The taste was excellent. The fish in the Bara Chirashi (L) was fresh and flavorful. The ikura was brined in a flavorful soy dashi and the rice was flavored a well! The Sashimi Sunomono was a true delight. It was blend of textures and taste in my mouth. Citrusy, slightly tart, juicy, Umami, savory and sweet, I really recommend this appetizer. Just thinking about it made my mouth water. It was also beautifully arranged, with the plump ponzu jelly (I think it's ponzu since it had a citrusy dashi taste) accenting and elevating the looks and taste of this dish. I only wish it was a bigger portion. I would definitely consider ordering from here again and try out their other offerings. Since it's a bit pricey for lunch, maybe on a special occasion or payday.

Omakase with my guilty-as-charged soy sauce bottle

I stopped by this place over 8 years ago when it was a brand new high end omakase / a la carte experience - and loved it. (See my previous review.) Fast forward to this year and I see the restaurant on, of all places, DoorDash? How times have changed. But what really stood out was that they offered an Omakase-to-go menu item at a really decent price, like $40 or something. (Of course, that's in addition to the pile of extra DoorDash charges.) And I'm here to report that this delivery Omakase really is fantastic and really is a great value and you should order it if that's what you're looking for. But there's something you should know. Because it's a high end sushi place, they sauce the fish for you. In fact, your delivery will include a printed note informing you that your Omakase is already sauced correctly! See photo. This is something of a controversial topic. Purists will agree with Hon's approach... other restaurants will ask you what your preferred sauce level is. I'm in the latter camp and fully confess to wanting to up the salt factor especially for the fattier fish which I find brings out the flavor. If you're like me, I propose you do what I did: order the Omakase, then go to the corner mini mart, grab some Kikkoman, and sauce away in defiance of their suggestion. They definitely aren't going to include soy sauce packets in your order. Evidence of my crime against food included in a second photo.

I had dinner here on a Wednesday at 8pm. Technically, we had a reservation but definitely didn't need it. The service was standout! We were able to taste various sakes before deciding and the service overall was very attentive. They easily accommodated to my friend's peanut allergy as well! The only thing to note is the sake pours were more like a tasting than a glass. The tasting menu was amazing! All the fish was fresh and literally melted in our mouths. For 135 dollars I think it was worth it!

My partner and I came here recently for our anniversary and enjoyed a beautiful, well-paced omakase. My favorites were the Hirame and madai. The white fish tended to be citrusy and very aromatic. My partner had a nut allergy so they subbed a Panna cotta with pistachio with a yuzu sorbet, which was yummy. It was fun and easy to talk to the staff as well. This was nice for a special occasion.

Fancy and yet affordable omakase! The restaurant is moderately sized with table seating and a bar. The interior is very nicely decorated and gives off warm and romantic/intimate vibes. The fish quality was excellent and the flavors of each course were delicious. My favorite would definitely be the hand roll at the end as it was stronger in flavor. Disclaimer: the omakase here is $135 so don't expect to find flavors that you've never had before if you're a frequent at omakases. I think the course is very fairly and appropriately priced. At the end, you have an option to add a three piece supplement for $35 or just order 1 of the 3 pieces or any course that you want a second serving of. The servers and chef were all very friendly and nice. They even served us a cheesecake on the house after hearing it was for a birthday celebration.

An intimate, yet fun atmosphere to enjoy high level crafted sushi. Every piece was made meticulously and deliciously. From the quality of the fish to the amount of time and effort put into the sushi rice, each bite was amazing. Service was excellent, super attentive, informative and friendly. The hospitality was unmatched. We came by with a reservation for two on a Thursday evening. Quiet but they had other customers and many takeout omakase orders. Their menu primarily is their set Omakase menu, featuring 17 courses/bites and you can add supplemental courses/bites prior to starting and after finishing. Each bite was amazing and they came out in a timely manner for you to savor each bite. So many different bites but the most notable ones are as listed: The small salad in the beginning to start off Shiromi Sunomono, it really starts your appetite and gets you ready to eat. Super refreshing and perfect way to "break fast" and begin eating. Zuke Chu-Toro, medium fatty tuna, slight bite but melts in your mouth. Amazing piece Sagoshi, young Spanish mackerel, I am a huge fan of mackerel and this bite was super meaty. Umimasu, ocean trout, it was bright vibrant orange, like Nemo, super tasty. Nasu Agedashi, dashi simmered japanese eggplant, a cold refreshing dish perfect for the summer. I could eat a lot of this. A huge highlight in the courses, refreshing your palette and appetite. Bincho Tataki- Smoke Seared Albacore with truffle, the smokiness and the truffle paired very well together. Zuke Masunozuke, soy cured king salmon, amazing bite, meaty yet tender. Great piece to highlight salmon Of course the Toro, super fatty tuna, slightly seared, this was super rich and instantly melts in your mouth. Had to savor this bite. Every bite and course was amazing. Most notably the way they make their rice, makes you want to keep eating. Everything was super well balanced, and I would love to come back for another round of Omakase, and next time get more drinks.

Update: after now having been to several Omakase, I can say that their Omakase is not that expensive - in fact it's probably the best valued Omakase in SF, especially when you factor in quality and taste!! Truthfully, i liked this omakase lightyears more than others I've had, including juni, the former Michelin star eatery.

Visited on a Monday night with my husband. Was not busy at all and many reservation openings. They have an AMAZING omakase experience with supplemental add ons for additional prices (worth it!). You can now order a la carte also. Fabulous staff and atmosphere. Came as a celebratory date night. 10/10 recommend for those who would like to try something new!

Second time at Sushi Hon! Both experiences were similar and they have amazing service along with high grade sashimi they serve! Last weekend, I took my friend for her first time ever lunch omakase. Surprisingly the two of us were only ones there at the restaurant so it made it extra special and we got to talk to the chef! (Sorry forgot his name) The chef made the whole experience a fun and interesting one as it was my friend's first time having omakase! We overall enjoyed our lunch and my friend had an amazing time experiencing her first omakase at Sushi Hon! Dinner also was amazing from what I experienced as well previously. There is more things on the dinner menu but lunch was delicious regardless with a smaller menu! Gochisousama!

My bf brought me here for our anniversary recently, and we had a great experience. This was my first omakase, and I couldn't have asked for a better one. We came on a Tuesday evening and sat at the bar with two other parties, one other couple and a group of three. We were the only ones in the restaurant for most of the meal, which made for a very intimate and cozy dinner. My bf and I added the premium supplement, which included uni (from Hokkaido), o toro, and A5 wagyu, on top of the 19-course meal. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The rice to fish ratio for the nigiri was perfect, with more fish than rice. A lot of the fish was so fresh and tender that it almost melted in my mouth. I loved it. While I loved all of the courses, my favorites would have to be the Masunosuke, A5 Wagyu, and Kinako Panna Cotta. I'm a big fan of salmon, so the Masunosuke was an obvious favorite. The A5 Wagyu was incredible - the smoky flavor from it being seared and the truffle flakes on top were chef's kiss. Lastly, the panna cotta was so, so delicious. It was nostalgic because it reminded me of the soybean milk I used to drink as a kid. It was also unique because it contained soybean instead of regular milk/heavy cream. Overall, we had a wonderful time here!

The first time I came here, I got the strawberry matcha latte with my friends. We ordered it via delivery on DoorDash, and I'm not sure if it's just the whole delivery part, but I could not taste any part of the strawberry! It just tasted like regular cream on top. Typically I'm more of a coffee person than matcha, so I'm not a great judge in whether this was good matcha or not. But I guess it did taste ok in my opinion. The funny thing is, my coworker also said the same thing when she ordered the strawberry matcha latte a separate time! Disappointing. A separate time, we also ordered from them via delivery. This time I was eager to try their food items instead, since they have a pretty interesting selection, like those cake sandwiches and various Japanese items. I got the spam masubi, which I thought would be a solid choice. It did arrive warm, but the slice of spam that was in the masubi was so thin! It was the thinnest piece of spam I had ever gotten, and I've gotten spam masubis at a variety of places including ABC stores and other places in Hawaii, and even various stores in the States. The rice was okay, some brown rice thing with seasoning, that was decent but not my preferred white rice. Overall my two times here have been disappointing. I will really never line up for this place in person, nor will I understand why people do.

Next, the pork jowl - some pieces were just fat but the meat was seasoned well. Loved the pear and pineapple kimchi - would've liked a bowl of that. The Tori Nanban Sando was another good one. The Shoji Burger is what hubs came for. Fork and knife definitely need to eat this. Pillowy soft bread, melty cheese, and the pickles all made for a tasty burger. Hubs would return for this alone. Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

WOW!!! That's it,…read morethat's the review. No, but in all seriousness, I visited Kusakabe for the 18 course Omakase (my first) and it was such a fantastic experience. Our server was so attentive and thoughtful and really helped make the entire experience so much fun. This was also some of - if not the best - sushi I have ever had. Everything was extremely fresh and the fish melted like butter in my mouth. Every course was extremely flavorful and just truly deliberate; there was a story behind everything. They also have a really great sake list and our server recommended delicious pairings that went well with each course. I genuinely cannot wait to go back and experience another Omakase here!
