    Combo 7 skewer

Came here for dinner around 7 PM on a Saturday. I'd recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant fills up quickly, and each table has a 90-minute time limit. We ordered the oxtail omurice and the Combo 7 skewers. The skewers were a good size and flavorful, and the omurice was just as satisfying. The restaurant is small but cozy. Overall, we enjoyed our meal, though it was definitely on the pricier side.

    Chu toro with crispy rice

I've had Chome on my list for a while and was happy to finally visit! Overall, I thought this was very good. However, unfortunately I was really craving sushi and I found the sushi options limited compared to what I had expected (or wanted, rather, but that's on me for missing the emphasis on ramen and other izakaya options). My boyfriend and I ordered the chu toro on crispy rice, combo 7 skewers, wagyu & crab roll, oysters, and toasted rice tea. I loved the toasted rice tea! It was pretty neutral and settling. I also loved the oysters; they were large and the sauce was very complimentary. The wagyu and crab rolls were delicious, but I felt the crab and fish egg flavors overwhelmed the wagyu. I thought the skewers were pretty standard (good but did not blow me away), and the toro was melt-in-your-mouth but in my opinion, didn't need the crispy rice. I enjoyed the small, intimate setting and the character of the decor, and the service was friendly and well-paced. I'd definitely come back, but I think I'd target some other food options!

Don't come here if you're expecting a menu with standard Japanese izakaya. Chome offers a unique menu with dishes you probably can't find elsewhere. I mostly liked what I got but would pass on the chicken Karage. Stop by to explore innovative Japanese cuisine! Something to keep in mind is that the seating is very intimate and you may be basically sharing a table with other parties in some areas.

I guess I wrote a review for this place before, so time for an update. They must have moved locations, because this building was much bigger and not like the narrow alleyway vibe I got from the last time I tried this place. Tables were still cramped and quite small for our group of three. We had to keep shuffling our cups and dishware around to make room for our dishes. Didn't help that we were seated next to this strange, obnoxious couple. When they were ordering, the woman at the table next to us pointed to our pineapple beers and was like "I don't want fruit in my beer: just regular beer" (the pineapple beers were delicious by the way). She also made a big deal about waving the waiter down. I had to make an effort to tune them out while trying to have a conversation with my friends. In comparison to last time though, the noise was less so of an issue. Food-wise, everything we had was delicious! We had the chutoro sizzler, uni udon carbonara, lucky clucky skewers, and the oxtail omurice. Really enjoyed the umami and fragrant flavors of the uni udon carbonara and trying all the different parts of the chicken from the lucky clucky skewers. The oxtail was very good though and came right off the bone, but the sauce was very tomato-ey (just read my previous review, and looks like I had the same issue then as now). It was good, but I didn't feel the need to finish the whole thing, which is a rarity for me. Apparently, they also have a happy hour (prior to dinner hour and late night), so can see why this place is so busy. Would definitely love to catch their happy hour in the future.

The place is super cute and the vibe is really nice! The music was a bit too loud at first--I could barely hear myself talk but I think they adjusted it later, which helped. The menu is honestly overwhelming... it's like a whole book, and I had no idea what to order. I feel like they could simplify it a bit. We came around 5 PM and tried their "happy time" menu (it's only 45 minutes, and they don't actually call it happy hour). The food was pretty good. The pineapple beer is basically a Sapporo can mixed with pineapple juice, and it was ok not bad. Service was just okay--not bad, not amazing. They also automatically add a 20% tip for parties of 4 or more, which feels a bit high. Overall, it was fine, but I'm not sure if I'd come back

Chome is a hip spot, with an extensive menu. The basic izakaya/yakitori items are all good and well executed. I had the pork cheek and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The specialty items eqch sound like a very brilliant idea, but vary in their execution (if I could, I'd give this place 4.5 stars to reflect this). For example, the unagi with ikura skewer was impossibly tasty: The sweet salty popping ikura was a nice complement to the fatty and sweet unagi. The duck tempura special was outstanding: the duck was tender and in a crispy tempura batter, served with slightly bitter microgreens (maybe it was arugula) and a sweet plum sauce. The dirty cauliflower is flavorful, crispy, and delicious. Other things sound like a great idea but don't quite live up to it. For me, the signature oxtail omurice was disappointing. The oxtail is prepared in a tomato stew, which is very tomato forward and dilutes the oxtail. As a result, it's a very soupy dish and there's no balance between the rice, omelet, soup, and oxtail (in fact, the oxtail is limited in the flavor profile and I think it should be the star of the show). I would have loved something with a more condensed and richer sauce (almost like a gravy) for the oxtail, so that one could really taste the omelet, rice, and oxtail together.

Good food, good service, cozy vibes. This place is pretty popular. I came with a friend on a Saturday night and we got lucky and got seated pretty quickly. Food came out quickly and they did a pretty good job of keeping our waters filled. Here are my thoughts on the food Corn ribs - very good, grilled to caramelization with cheese Chu toro sizzler - toro pieces were tender but if you don't like them cooked, grab them off the sizzler quickly! Bacon mochi - tasty but what isn't with bacon? Karaage and fries - this is a very flavorful version of karaage as the sauce is spicy and has a hint of curry in it. Salty yolky salmon skin - this was the only dish I was meh about. I thought the salmon skin would be crispier but this was a meaty dish that wasn't very crispy

We wanted to try something new (to us), vegetarian friendly, and in the mission district . Ambiance: Quite loud and the music is... A choice. They were playing random stuff like monster mash and Christmas music, which I felt to be a little inappropriate for dinner. The tables are small and close together. There's a lot of artwork and fun stuff all over the walls - I could probably stare at them all day long, honestly. They were pretty cute. Service: We had 5 to our group, so I texted ahead of time to get a table. They were quick to accommodate. They do charge 20% gratuity if you have a party or 4 or more, so be mindful of that - but they also remind you when you're paying the bill, so you don't get charged extra extra. We came on a Friday night and it wasn't full when we got there, but filled pretty quickly soon after. They did get part of our orders wrong - they gave me a tofu carbonara instead of the duck one, but they changed it to the right one after I mentioned it. They filled our waters up pretty regularly and it was nice because it was infused with citrus (lemon, orange, lime) and was very refreshing with the meal we had. Food: They start off with a potato salad on the house. Vegetarian people beware - they have bonito flakes on top. Duck carbonara - so creamy and flavorful without being overly salty. The duck was tender and not overcooked. The bacon pieces added a nice texture and smoke to the dish. The egg on top was a nice touch, and made the dish extra creamy. The udon had a nice bite to it, springy, but not soggy. My friends ordered the mushroom asparagus garlic noodle, which was excellent. They really enjoyed their meals and I was able to try a small portion of my friend's, but didn't get enough to give a solid review. The asparagus was crunchy, but thoroughly cooked, mushrooms were soft and flavorful, and the noodles were good. My other friend got the garlic chili tonkotsu ramen and he can't really tolerate spice, but enjoyed this very much. I didn't get to try it, so I can't speak to it. I would definitely come back and try more things on the menu, as everything we did try was excellent. **Update** I went back and got a few other things on the menu. Uni carbonara - 3 big pieces of uni with ikura surrounding it. The udon had the same great texture as the duck - perfectly cooked. The flavors were lacking, in my opinion. It was creamy but light. The uni was fresh, but at the price point, I wouldn't personally order it again. Oxtail omurice - the oxtail was tender and fell off the bone easily. There were two giant pieces next to a bed of rice, egg, and a very tomatoey sauce. If you're into tomatoes, this would be an excellent dish for you. Otherwise, again lacking in flavor. The egg was a bit overdone and more like an omelette. This dish tasted more like home style cooking, rather than restaurant style. Still good, but I wouldn't order again. Chu-toro skillet - very flavorful. They put the raw tuna on a bed of puffed rice on a cast iron skillet and when presented, they pour a teriyaki like sauce around the edges, causing the dish to sizzle and sear the tuna. Highly recommend. Lots of people ordered this dish the first time I visited. I can see why. Lucky 6 skewers - 6 different kinds of chicken skewers. We're all a fan of offal, so we ordered and it's very tasty. I believe it's heart, gizzard, skin, thigh, tendon, and I can't remember the last one. All were seasoned well and crispy. Would highly recommend. Pineapple beer - I believe they use pineapple juice to mix with the beer. Very refreshing with the food and worth trying if you like pineapple.

Came here for dinner and arrived right before happy hour ended! I started off with the pineapple beer, which was actually so refreshing and unique. We got a ton of different dishes to share, some highlights: -Brussels sprouts- perfectly cooked and flavorful -Shishito peppers - small qty, but super high quality. One of them was orange, but it tasted the same lol -Chicken thigh skewers - soooo good -Garlic shrimp pasta- delicious The vibes here are great and the service was speedy & pleasant. Definitely a solid izakaya spot!

Had an amazing happy hour experience at ChoMe! Located on 26th st, this neighborhood spot is quaint, playful and delicious! We got a good amount of dishes for happy hour, but my favorites were the salmon skin and chicken gyoza. The salmon skin was salty and savory- with the sweet chili sauce being phenomenal. The chicken gyoza was hearty and zesty. The service was great, too! Our waitress was kind and very fast. The interior of the restaurant is dynamic and fun. The Japanese elements were visually interesting and added to the authenticity of ChoMe.

Went a little after HH, so we had to wait about 30 mins for a table. The food was delicious and I loved the pineapple beer. It felt like I was in Japan again! I loved the decorations and vibe.

Very cute izakaya spot, let the vibes transport you to japan for a night! Love the diverse music they have playing in the background. Only had about ~20min wait on a Friday. Extensive menu options! - salted egg kabocha (5/5) : loved the crispy batter with the delectable pumpkin texture, great flavor! - corn ribs (3/5): nothing special here, the corn was a little mushy and over oiled - karaage and fries (4/5) : the "fries" was actually roasted carrots, bit disappointing but the chicken saved it, nice flavor and juicy, but not crispy - chasu yakitori (4.5/5) : good seasoning, nice meat to fat ratio - cumin lamb yakitori (3.9/5) : had interesting pairing of pesto and mayo across the lamb skewer.. wish it didn't have that. Liked the lamb otherwise Yummy complementary potato salad!

Came here this past Sunday around 7:30pm as a group of 7. We didn't have a reservation beforehand, and fortunately we didn't have to wait and were seated right away. I really liked the way this restaurant is decorated. It's decked out in lanterns, banners, retro-style posters, and quirky figures. The space felt welcoming and cozy, and it was full of personality. Each person was given a complimentary house potato salad. It was flavorful and yummy - a perfect way to start our meal. I liked the touch of the bonito flakes; it was very reminiscent of takoyaki. For my entree, I ordered the Super Karaage Ramen. This dish had a lot going on and was very filling. There were about 3 large pieces of chicken, with the two on the bottom completely submerged in the broth, so they were soggy by the time I got to them. The piece on top still had a bit of crisp, and the breading held up when I ate it. The pork belly was okay - I could've done without it since there was already plenty of chicken and other toppings. The broth was flavorful but a little unusual. The flavor wasn't something I'm used to in other Japanese dishes I've had in the past. I would love to try one of their udon dishes next time.

Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. Because I was in a rush, speed was everything, and they absolutely delivered - my ramen was hot and ready on the table within 5 minutes of ordering! The service was incredibly fast, and the staff was amazing throughout. Beyond the efficiency, the food itself tasted wonderful. The restaurant's location is excellent, and the interior is beautifully planned and decorated, giving it a really nice vibe. As a huge plus, they have multiple vegetarian options on the menu. This makes it an ideal spot for groups where some people want vegetarian dishes and others want non-veg options. If you need a delicious, top-tier bowl of ramen - even on a tight schedule - this is the place to go.

The beer was cold and crisp, and the corn was super tasty--I loved the Japanese-style seasoning on it. I don't know if it was just the long day of traveling, but the ramen really slapped. The broth was rich without being too heavy, and the meat was tender and delicious. Some ramen bowls can feel a little too rich for me, but I finished this entire bowl in 10 minutes. Loved this chain, solid location, and I'd definitely come again.

Taniku Izakaya might be one of the best Japanese spots I've tried in the US. Full stop. My friend…read morewas in town and had heard about this place so naturally we go check them out. They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

The veggies were endless, making each last sip enjoyable. The place was bustling with workers, but the host seemed a bit brusque. She might need a little training in good manners. Instead of welcoming us, she opened the door for herself without holding it for us, which made us hold our own door. She just left our menu without saying anything and disappeared. She could have asked the next person, who happened to be sitting side by side at a two-person table, if they were free to share. They were already done watching a video together. We had to squeeze in and awkwardly say, "Excuse me," while getting an eye roll. The host could have avoided that awkward situation by letting us know we were using the table next to them. Also, be ready to pay an automatic 5%. Tips start at 20% and go up, so at least 25% is expected. The service was okay, but the food was fantastic. The workers seemed a bit lazy and avoided us until it was time to pay. That's when they suddenly became incredibly helpful. It's surprising how tipping changes their mood so quickly. I can tell because she watches me as I select my tip, and her eyes change.
