In 2015 I paid almost $10k for a new 5-ton Trane XV20i. My issues with Direct Air (now Direct Heating & Cooling): The unit is too large. My house only needs a 3.5 to 4-ton unit. So not only did they overcharge me, but they installed an inefficient unit for my house. I learned recently that an oversized unit cycles too quickly and doesn't dehumidify, and short-cycles in hot, humid air, which likely caused my unit to struggle, wear out components faster, and develop persistent operational issues like shutdowns and poor humidity control. I had an electrician do some work around the house and he showed me all the mistakes Direct Air made when they installed my unit. I won't go into detail here, but it was terrible. Similarly, I had my ducts replaced and the company showed me several areas where my new AC was not installed up to code. That was in 2015. Maybe they've improved since then, but I've had other issues more recently. They never could get my unit to stop shutting down randomly, causing me to reset it at the breaker in the middle of the night. I had one technician come out and tell me I needed to replace the condenser fan motor for $500+. A few months later, I had another tech come out (this thing always needed maintenance), and I mentioned the condenser fan motor -- he took a look at it and said it was fine. Other dude obviously tried to scam me. They're always really nice and respond quickly when I call, but man, the issues with the installation are awful. This company scammed me. read more

We have been using Direct for almost 20 years. We have actually purchased four air conditioners from them and they've done all the servicing. I just had a new one installed in December. The other day our other one died. We had just had them service it last month and was told it's fine!! So we had a nice young man from Direct air come in and run tests and he quoted us $2288.46 to repair it. He also said that it's an old unit (2014), so it would be better to get a new one and we received a quote for just under $12,000. We told him we needed to think about it and spent two nights with no air!! We decided to look up how much a motor would actually cost and they were only about $650! Wondered why we were quoted so much, so I called another company who said my unit was perfectly good and replaced the part for $900!! I asked him how much a new unit would cost and he said around $7500! That's over a $5000 difference!!! I'm just gutted that I trusted this company for so many years and feel as though I've been getting ripped off! He also told me the air conditioner wasn't hooked up correctly and it was a low setting and was allowing a lot of humidity in the air, and he also removed a blue light that direct had installed too close to the wires and it was an electric fire waiting to happen! I don't know anything about air conditioners but I thought you can trust the professionals to do a good job when they install it, and it's just horrible to find out you just can't!!! read more

I wouldn't recommend Direct Air. 3 years ago I had them install a brand new air handler. 2 people came to install: 1 person that seemed like a young trainee that did all the work and another older gentleman that seemed to be overseeing him. After the job was done I noticed that air was leaking all around the unit and mentioned it. All they did was come back and tape up the entire unit (as shown). I thought this was normal and didn't know any better. Over the last 3 years I've had various AC companies come to do maintenance. Every technician that looks at the unit is shocked at how a new unit can look like this. I had an AC company come out last October to do a routine cleaning. After inspection the technician showed me what seems to be mold, which is understandable because this unit leaks air and even water along its panels pretty badly. After his report, I immediately called Direct Air out to the house to complain about what I felt was a bad initial installation that was leading to the exterior and interior condition: the air leakage, the water leakage, the pictures of the mold. The Direct Air tech looked it over and then proceeded to give me a cleaning quote of over $1500. I explained to him that I'm not looking for a cleaning quote; I needed Direct Air to fix the initial bad installation that was causing all these problems. His started explaining that the humidity in Miami can be a cause but I said I've lived in this house for 40 years and never had a problem with an air handler until the one Direct Air installed. He then suggested I may not be keeping up with maintenance. I requested a manager, who then came came out a couple days later to also look at the unit; he kept mentioning that they weren't mold experts and can't know for sure if it was mold or not. I kept asking if air leakage is normal all around the unit as well as the visible condensation on the outside of the unit. He could not give me an answer to this but would not agree that a bad initial installation by Direct Air could be the cause of the interior and exterior issues. He too could only offer me routine cleaning services for over $1500, which I respectfully declined. I'm not an AC expert, yet every AC technician I've called from other companies have had a shocked reaction to seeing the air handler and says it was not installed properly. I just wanted to share my experience. I'm now looking for an AC company that can fix or possible even install another new air handler, which would be a shame after only 3 years of having this one. read more

I call ask for Jose tell them that according to email I received he wants me to call him to discuss. Guess what happens next? Fellow Yelpers this has to be the lowest of the low when a business owner writes on your review that they want to make things right but they have no intention to. On a warranty item note Lennox has a ten year warranty. Also note the authorized dealer that came to fix our problem told us they never setup the thermostat correctly? Yep that's right not only was I charged $500. On a warranty item but the moron that was here for 10 seconds never set it for a person living in South Florida with high humidity! Instead they left it the way it came in the box for someone living in the opposite temperature so it would say "feels like"! The thermostat I am told is used Globally. My AC got damaged yesterday saturday, i called this company and schedule an appointment to come and fix it, they never came and the phone operators promised me over and over again that i was the next customer, at the end of the day they booked another appointment for today Sunday, i just got a phone call from the technician to let me know that they were not coming because it was raining, that MAYBE they will come tomorrow, i said "don't come i don't care anymore, his reply was "OK ME NEITHER", i WAS a customer of this company since 5yrs ago, if they treat me lime that imagine how they would do with new customers... Was having trouble with condensation in my thermostat. Was told by their tech that it was too close to door and needed to be relocated. Scheduled that with them knowing it required moving electrical to new location. Charged me $1100. then they sent a tech who was trying to be helpful but not qualified for electrical which would be a 2 man job anyway. Gave me a new $45 thermostat which lasted a day. Charged me for more visits with the same results. Suggested i tape up my garage door, but never moved the thermostat. Also offered to sell me another $45 thermostat for $240. Have done business with this company for years and they won't even return my calls or texts. As a senior on a fixed income I feel like Ive been robbed. Finally had to pay electricians to do the job I paid Direct for. Plenty of other AC Companies in town so definitely don't use them. read more

They made sure to make the entire experience as painless and effortless as possible, while still being extremely transparent with me about the costs. I first met with a gentleman by the name of Matt who came over to give me a free estimate. He came wearing gloves and a mask and was very polite following all of the CDC guidelines within my home. A few days later I had the pleasure of having Drew and William who did a killer job explaining to me what the duct cleaning entailed, and making sure that no stone was left unturned when cleaning my air ducts. Our A/C still under warranty broke on 7/17/23. The parts are not available from Trane and no one has any solutions but to wait while we are having heat advisories. To make matters worst we have another property and the unit this company installed 7 years ago also broke and the parts were included but not not the labor and the Freon. We replaced it using another company. This is 2 out of 3 units bought from this company that break while under warranty. One had to be replaced and the other one has had us without an A/C for almost 2 months. I don't recommend this company, no one calls us back and they quoted me a new unit for $21k! Seriously! Bought a new A/C from these guys three years ago. Every summer the thing struggles to keep the house even remotely cool. I've had to have these guys come out twice to clean/fix the A/C. I had to do the same thing this month. They came over said the issue was that the A/C coils needed to be cleaned. I asked it there was a way to make sure the A/C could survive next summer without a $2k maintenance every year. I was told to order a $1000 electronic filter. I said fine. They cleaned the coils, but they had the wrong part. They told me they'd come back within the next three days. It has been two weeks. I have called them, and I get promises that someone will be in touch with me soon. But no one calls. It is 84 degrees in my house even though I paid $2k to fix my A/C two weeks ago. read more

I was very much set on hiring this Costco backed company to install a new Lennox AC for me. The salesman came out and I set up the installation date for the most expensive unit. When the installation date came (a Saturday) those installers came with the attitude that they didn't want to work First, they told me that the air conditioning couldn't clear the water heater, but with a 36 inch stand, it more than cleared the water heater Then they said that the door entry wasn't tall enough on top. I said no problem, cut straight up as tall as you need it. They were giving me major attitude. They didn't want to do the work and I didn't feel comfortable with these workers in my home anymore. Within an hour I hired an A/C company my neighbor recommended. It was a night and day difference. The new A/C company has way better customer service, and was much more experienced. They moved my water heater to the closet on the opposite side of the wall and installed the Lennox air-conditioning unit that I wanted. Not only did I get better service with the other company, I was charged less! Also, there is something else I want to mention. When the installers arrived, I was in the shower and my husband answered the door. He is Asian and he does not speak Spanish. The installers were only speaking to him in Spanish. My husband told them to wait and ran to get me from the shower so I could discuss with the installers the purported issues (their excuses.) I am Hispanic, so I speak fluent Spanish. Later though, I realized that the boss of the three installers spoke perfect English. Why oh why was he only speaking to my husband in Spanish when he speaks English and my husband doesn't know Spanish????? It seems to me that perhaps the installation in my house required a minimal amount of more work and they just didn't want to do it and the installers didn't mind losing the sale because they don't have any skin in the game. Last note: the estimate came with a bunch of "guarantees." one of these guarantees for example, is a $500 INSTALLATION DATE GUARANTEE - "If we do not have your new system operating by the date promised, we will pay you $500 for your inconvenience!" I just want to mention that I did not get my air conditioning on the date it was promised and I did not get $500, whether they honor their other guarantees or not, I have no idea but they definitely don't honor this one. Do NOT go with this company! You will get overcharged and you will get terrible customer service. In response to the owner's response: To be clear, #1 is a lie, I would have been happy to sign whatever I needed to sign. I wasn't given that option until after they refused to do the work and left. As is clear, #2 is also a lie as in fact I moved my water heater. Also, again, I was happy to have the installers cut straight up the wall. Also, to be clear regarding #3, there were 3 installers. It appeared to me that two were helpers and the third was the leader. It's true that the two helpers didn't speak any English but the person who appeared to be the leader spoke English. Why was he communicating with my spouse, who does not speak Spanish, in Spanish, when he is perfectly capable of speaking English? What the owner is responding, is that he sent three workers to my house, none of which spoke English, which would have also, of course, been unacceptable. What is clear is that Direct Air chooses to do work or not based on their "whims and emotions" and it appears they choose to honor guarantees or not honor guarantees based on their "whims and emotions" All of the negative reviews speak for themselves. read more

I like this business a lot: they make prompt appointments, they answer calls after hours, they come on schedule, they use modern tools like texting confirmations and emailing a tracker that shows the technician's real-time location on the way to your house - that is pretty awesome - no waiting around and guessing an ETA. Work has always been good too. I really like Charles (and request him when I have an issue). The prices are reasonable (as far as a/c goes at least - it's expensive generally) and I'm always happy with the results. read more

Do not use direct air under any circumstance. I paid them to do a coil cleaning in July and they never got around to scheduling the actual service until I called them back at the end of September. They came on a Friday and turned my perfectly functioning unit into a unit that would not turn on. They left without saying anything and just left me with no ac. The next day it took hours of me calling to finally have another person out - he said I needed a part that couldn't be ordered till Monday. Monday morning I again spend hours calling and they send out the same idiot who broke everything originally. Not only does he fail to fix the original problem he caused but he brakes the thermostat as well. I have not heard back about this vandalism to my home. read more

This company, Direct Air Conditioning that represents Costco for all of their air conditioning needs and installations is the most expensive company on the market. It's been 3 years that I bought a unit from this company, which cost much more than those on the market, and today I had to replace that unit. When I reached out to Direct Air Conditioning for a quote, they quoted me $4,000 more than the company that did the job today at my house. Both quotes were for the same equipment/offering the same exact service, and Direct Air Conditioning was 4K more. I do not recommend this company to anyone because it is much more expensive. It's a real shame that this is the company that Costco endorses and uses to represent their air conditioning service. I was very disappointed with this company when my ac recently broke down. They installed the unit a few years ago and they have serviced it once or twice since. So I was a repeat customer. Yet they thought they could rip me off on this recent repair. The unit is still under warranty for parts. The blower motor needed to be replaced. The part was covered by the warranty but I had to pay for the labor. They quoted me $585 for the labor alone!!! This was so outrageous. I told them no and called another company. The other company got the part and installed it in 45 minutes and charged me $275. Needless to say they will have me as a customer in the future. I do not recommend Direct Air to anyone. I was caught off guard with that price because in the past I paid about $25 per vent but that estimate brings the price to about $135 per vent. Very good service, especially when your AC goes down mid day on a Friday in August. Direct Air was at my house in just over an hour. Unfortunately, my 11 yr old problematic Rheem met its maker. I opted for a higher end, more powerful, and dependable replacement Lennox compressor and air handler. Friday evening, they installed a portable unit to keep us comfortable that night. They installed the new unit without issue on Saturday. Although the new unit was more expensive than I originally anticipate, It's multi cycle feature uses 1/4 of the energy of the old unit. UPDATE #2: Updating to 5 stars based on the diligence of the owner who got our unit repaired at a fair price. Still not happy about this bad unit, but that's more of an issue with Trane than with Direct Air. The owner actually shared that they no longer sell those models because of the decline in quality of Trane. ORIGINAL POST: Began as a customer 2 years ago, when I overpaid for a Trane unit that has proven to be deeply problematic. I probably didn't even need a new AC unit, in retrospect. All together, between that new indoor unit, outdoor unit, testing and line replacements I have spent close to $7,000 with this company, and now they want another $950 to service the same unit. After numerous visits the past week, we've finally gotten word that despite the fact that the failed compressor is under warranty, it will still cost $950 to replace because of Direct Air's labor. No explanation about why the unit they put in our house, still brand new, failed so badly. No explanation about why we were sold such a faulty, overpriced piece of junk. This comes after our lines supposedly needed replacing earlier this year ($1,500+). This company sold us a lemon A/C, put us thousands of dollars in debt, and expects us to pay thousands more to service this piece of junk. I will be hiring an attorney to find a way out of debt obligation we have to them, since they've failed to provide the thing they said they would, and in the meantime will be spreading the word about their awful service on every social platform I can. UPDATE: Upgrading this to 3-stars because the owner reached out directly to me to negotiate a fairer price and schedule service. Pending final resolution, of course! Scam artist. We replaced our AC with them in August 2020 and were having problems with it by February 2021. Called a technician to come see what the issue was, were charged $75 and were told a bunch of nonsense and quoted $1400 to remedy. That same day, the AC stoped turning on all together, same technician came back, used pressurized air to blow out supposed debris (remember the unit is 6 months old) and were charged another $110 for it. If I could, I would give them zero stars. Stay far away from them....! read more

Terrible. If I could give zero stars, I would. That's how awful my experience with Direct Air has been. After having a brand new A/C system installed 3 years ago by Direct Air, it craps out on us. Called Direct Air and they sent Will out, who claimed the two units were "incompatible," but then went back on his story and said it was compatible after then realizing THEY had been the ones that had done the original work. Apparently the part that does in fact needs to be replaced is going to cost us an arm and a leg, despite being under warranty. I called a different company for a second opinion and to my surprise... Trane was sold to a Chinese company in 2006 and this unit was one of their first generation models that will not be honored through the warranty anymore. It's no wonder Direct Air wanted to charge such a high price. They should have been honest from the beginning. Too late. I do not recommend Direct Air. Will claimed one thing, someone in the office said another. These people cannot be trusted and will never again get business from me. read more

Twice I called for service and twice their recommendation was to replace the unit. The first time I replaced the unit and paid (overpaid). The second time time I did some calling around and found a provider who was much more professional and 25% cheaper. Moreover, the the unit Direct AC did install, broke after less than 2 years. I called to exercise my warranty only to find out that it only covers parts not labor (what a rip-off). reluctantly I had to pay almost $500 to get a 2 year old unit under warranty repaired.
