They saw me right away and they got an x ray and ultrasound of my knee done on site. They referred me to 5 different locations for an MRI to maximize the chances of me getting it as early as possible. They pin pointed the issues and I got a surgery scheduled in record time. If this would have been through regular channels I would still be waiting for step 1 to happen. They treated me very well and they always answer the phone or call right back. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have a broken ankle and was advised to come here by the urgent care clinic. I made my appointment this morning online at for 12:40. They confirmed and I did the online paperwork and brought my ID and insurance card. Upon arrival here no one informed me that I needed to bring X-rays or could even explain why they couldn't request medical records. They didn't seem interested in helping at all and furthermore had me sitting in there for almost an hour without any information until my daughter asked how long was the wait. They then informed me that they can't proceed without X-rays. That should have been advised prior to me sitting in the office for an hour and everyone not saying anything. No one greets you in this office either and the supervisor basically just said okay when I advised why I no longer want to be seen. Definitely take your care elsewhere. While waiting I also overheard them trying to bill an elderly lady for an appointment from April she explained she cancelled and had confirmation. SMH read more

There customer service is horrible. We booked an appointment at night months ago, the next day our son stated he didn't feel the pain any longer so we cancelled. When we called to cancel, they stated no problem and took care of it. A month later we went in for a separate issue, they made no mention of any cancellation fee from the previous appointment. We came in again for a follow up and they stated we owed money per their cancellation policy. First off, we had booked that appointment and cancelled all in under 12 hours with no clue of the fee. When we called to cancel, they said nothing of it. They stated the manager would remove it for us and we moved on. Came in for a final follow up only to be told we owed money again. When I told them we were told the manager would remove it, they said she said she tried calling us but we hung up and she called twice more. My wife never got a call or a voicemail from them. They then refused to allow us to take our current appointment unless we paid it, then stated the manager was off till Monday. The level of service provided was horrible and for a manager to lie about contacting us is just unacceptable. We spent thousands of dollars with this company, yet they are refusing us service over a freaking cancellation fee for something done in under 12 hours and no warning. I was supposed to go into for an appt and had to cancel due to a Statewide Issue State of Emergency on 1/24 that lasted days. Everything was closed that Saturday and weekend including kids events and offices. I have two little kids and was not going to drive 30 mins to Round Rock when weather was poor and being advised not to drive. They are trying to charge me a cancel fee for a trying to protect myself and kids and during a winter storm weeks later. Completely nuts. read more

Money Grab. Anytime a doctors office demands to keep a credit card on file, it's a red flag that they are going to charge you for something without you realizing you are being charged. Issue 1: I went to DOC because their website said they have orthopedic specialists, but I never saw a doctor in the clinic. My 3 appointments for a broken ankle were with a Nurse Practitioner and were very rushed... yet my insurance was billed three times for seeing a doctor (Darryl Thomas, MD) that I never saw. DOC likely gets a higher reimbursement rate from insurance for billing for a MD than the mid-level providers who are actually seeing patients. I felt misled by the advertising. Issue 2: I had a followup Xray for a broken ankle scheduled and tested positive for COVID. I called DOC 24 hours before my appt to move my followup Xray back 2 days in order to not risk infecting staff or other patients. They moved the appointment... and then charged my credit card $50 for "cancelling" my appointment. I was doing the considerate thing by rescheduling. I certainly didn't want to stay in a boot for 2 extra days! When I called to ask them to please refund the charge (assuming it was a mistake), I was told that I was supposed to come for my appt with COVID and that I consented to being charged for cancelling for any reason... I explained that someone should have told me on the phone that the clinic preferred for me to come in - even with COVID - instead of rescheduling. I should have been given the option of paying $50 or coming in and getting out of the boot sooner... When I went for my followup Xray, two other patients walked in and both had been charged $50 for rescheduling. This seems to be a good income stream for this office. I've now emailed the billing twice to ask for a refund and received no response. I'm thankful that I had reached my out-of-pocket max for the year before going to DOC because I don't want to consider what they would have charged my credit card for their services... read more

Please avoid this clinic -- they were not helpful at all. I visited for arm and shoulder pain, and after doing an X-ray, they advised me to get an MRI. However, when I went for the MRI, they had ordered a neck scan instead. I have no pain in my neck. woke up a few days ago with a spasming neck. Urgent care didn't do much, so I called to see if I could get in next week and was pleasantly surprised to find them open on the weekend. I was able to get an appointment the next day (Sunday.) Everyone was kind and courteous, and my PA was great. Thorough exam, X-rays, and TPI all done within 45 minutes. I don't like systemic meds, so having the TPI option was so great. The PA was professional, went over my X-rays with me, discussed different treatment options, and got me about 50% relief almost immediately. Let me start with my PCP that I'm no longer with as this was all a money grab. I've been on medication ever since a surgery back in 2002. My PCP sends me to a pain management DR, which was this place. If the Dr was educated their is a difference between pain management and a Orthopedic care. Started with a insurance cost of my deductible which I paid without an issue, then I confirmed with the front desk Will their be any additional costs for this visit? The answer I received was NO as you paid 100% of your deductible. Great! I went there for NO reason except for them to inform me of the same issues I've struggled with since late 2002. They pushed and pushed to get a shot that my insurance won't cover for $2,000 plus dollars to help with the pain but not guaranteed. When I asked the question what's the difference between staying on my current medication I'm on or getting the shot and paying this crazy amount of money and not guaranteed results? The current results work with the medication I'm on daily, and I can function 100% currently. Again, I asked why would I change? The Dr got frustrated with my questions and kept pushing the shots all for the money and can care less about my comfort and long term care. This place is all about the $$ and NOT about patient care. A fair warning, don't go here, see a real orthopedic Dr and facility. I visited this clinic have suffering a severe fall. I thought my shin was fractured, but I could walk. The pain got so bad that I went to this location for treatment. After xrays, the doctor? came in and said my ankle was broken. I was very surprised. I had been up and walking and felt that my ankle was not the issue. But the doctor insisted that this was the case and I was also told that I had to buy the longer boot. They did not put it on my leg as I was driving, and was told to just put it on when I got home. The boot was SO painful as it kept hitting the shin area causing even more pain. I tried this for 2 days, and then woke up to see my leg and ankle were turning black. I then went to my own Hospital Emergency Room where they also did extensive xrays. I was told in no uncertain terms that my ankle was NOT BROKEN, AND NOT TO WEAR THE BOOT.So draw your own conclusions, but the Direct Orthopedic Care seems to have a reputation for fraudulent diagnosis to ensure patients buy the over priced boot and their services, whether you need it or not. I rarely, if ever, write bad reviews however, these people have your health in their hands and patients deserve better. I went to the clinic because they were open on the weekends and it was pre-vaccine during the pandemic and I was in excruciating pain - like barely able to move. They took x-rays, gave me a shot, and signed me up for their PT program. I was never able to get an actual appointment with the pain management doctor and I guess I should be grateful because the one teledoc appointment I had with him he couldn't be bothered to make eye contact or even pretend to listen and he treated me like I was a drug seeker. Before this injury I had never taken any pain medication beyond Advil. I was having upper back spasms that would last for hours and after they stopped they were followed by hours of pins and needles pain. Pain so crippling that I had to have a friend care for my dogs because I could barely move let alone walk and pick up after them. I stopped going to their PT clinic because I was in so much pain. Come to find out, after I collapsed on my way to see a competent doctor, that I had a disc in my neck that was compressing my spine - I was experiencing paralysis from my neck down. Luckily an amazing neurosurgeon at St David's Round Rock was able to help and put me on the road to recovery. Even he was worried about my prognosis because of the severity of my injury - and the fools at DOC wanted to feed me pills and milk my insurance for PT appointments. I am terrified when I think about what could have happened if I had continued treatment at DOC. As others have said, they rarely return calls and they treated me like I was a bother when in fact I had a life threatening injury. You and your health are worth more than this place can provide. read more

Radiation is not good for the body and should only be done if necessary. I would have been more comfortable with it if they had done an exam and determined they were needed. read more

I'm not really sure why there are so many mixed reviews. My left knee has been bothering me for several months now, but I honestly thought it was just due to getting old, mountain biking, and being out of shape. Yesterday I basically doubled the mileage on some trails and tackled my first blue trail. Well this morning I went from bothering to barely getting my shoe on. I knew DOC did a flat rate of $350 for uninsured, so I tried to book online. Earliest appt was tomorrow at noon, but the site said walk ins always welcome. Soooo I walked in right when they opened at 10. I paid $350, and filled out some iPad questionnaires. I may have waited a total of 20-30 minutes before I was called back for x- rays. Then I was met by a cool young lady named Cedie. She explained to me what she was going to need to do, and the PA was basically gonna have to do the same thing.... lots of pulling and twisting on the knee. She did her thing, very professional, (totally surprised me finding out she was a student), and knowledgeable. Now comes Nicole... the PA. She was also super cool and very knowledgeable! She pulled a little harder, twisted a little harder, and narrowed it down to my meniscus. She went over a couple of options- one was a steroid injection and let me know this was not something she would recommend on a regular basis due to the long term effects. The other was a PRP injection- basically trading some of my blood, spinning it around to separate some shit, then injecting the blood into my knee. I opted for the steroid first since I have no chronic knee issues. Oh and she gave me a brave to wear! So from the staff in the front to Nicole and Cedie in the back... everyone was great! With no appointment I walked in at 10, and I was out by 11:30. $350 paid for everything! Thank you Nicole and Cedie! read more

I've been a patient of DOC in Round Rock for a few months due to a shoulder injury I have. I've experienced a number and variety of different service related issues related to my visits/care and had previously decided to bite my tongue to avoid the awkwardness of returning to see the team after sharing less than positive feedback but it's gotten to the point where it became too much. Issues: wait times: on half of my half dozen visits to the office, there has been at least a 45 minute wait to even go to a room in the back with some of these 5 minutes visits taking up to 90 minutes to complete. Last Monday, the team was so far behind, the receptionist offered to reschedule when I arrived but like most people, I had to schedule my appointment to accommodate my job so had no choice but to stay. I saw at least 2 other people complain while I was there about waiting over an hour and had the exact same experience (minus the offer to reschedule) prior to surgery as well with another appointment taking 90 minutes and a third taking an hour (mainly just due to waiting to be seen, not any actual care or procedures) Wrong appts: For my initial appt, I called to schedule and they asked if I wanted to see a PA or the Dr and I was clear to say I wanted to see the physician so we booked an appt. After enduring an extremely long wait, I was finally taken to the back and seen by a PA. She was nice but at the conclusion of the appt, she told me I'd need to come back to see a Dr. So, I came back another time to see a Dr a week or two later and the information that he shared around my injury was quite a bit different than the info the PA had mentioned in terms of recovery and such. appt issue #2: I had my surgical follow-up last Monday and before leaving, I asked if I could make a physical therapy appointment; the receptionist asked who I would like to see and I let her know it was the DOC PT team next door so we scheduled an appt for today at 4:30. I arrived today at the scheduled time and the PT team said they did not have an appt for me and walked me back over to the Dr's office as they said I was scheduled for a Doctor's appointment and x-rays and not actually physical therapy. After looking into it, the team let me know that I had been scheduled for the wrong type of appt and that I would not actually be able to start physical therapy today so I rescheduled for tomorrow. Day of surgery/communication issues: The day before I was scheduled for surgery, the DOC office team called me around 4:45pm to let me know that I needed to pickup a sling for post-surgery. I asked if I could come before my 11am surgery the next day and they said the office wouldn't be open and they asked if I might be able to come right then (I was working so not available to drop everything for an unexpected errand to the Drs office). They said the hospital would take care of it so we just went ahead with the surgery as planned. After surgery, the Doctor called my Fiance and said the hospital didn't have a sling so she needed to drive to the Guadalupe location to pick one up so she stopped her work and went and got it. When she picked up me from the hospital, I already had a sling on (provided by the hospital) so we then had to swing by the round rock office again to drop off the unnecessary sling so we wouldn't be charged for it. I'm taken aback and extremely frustrated by the nature and repeated issues I've experienced and have never run into anything like this in healthcare before. I felt like I've wasted a good portion of my time as a result of some of these issues and they seem to keep happening in some form or fashion. Doc owes me a refund. I've been trying to collect it since January. The check is always being processed or the check is always in the mail. In January, they insisted i pay my medicare deductable and then failed to submit my invoices in a timely manner. So medicare assigned my deductible to another provider. Learn from me. Don't pay them anything, except your co-pay, until your insurance has reviewed the bills. Although i don't have a issue with my treatment, I was treated by the PA, and she runs a tight ship but I never once saw an actual MD. read more

I will first start by saying the employees are very nice. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I have to say. I went in and was told that I had an acl tear but 6 weeks of PT should fix it. 6 weeks turned into 6 months. When I told them I was still in pain they said it was time for the surgical consultation. The surgeon then told me I didn't have a tear at all. When I asked why I was still having pain he said he didn't know. And he could give me "injections or something" but couldn't guarantee it would work. So a lot of time and money were wasted. On top of that, I had insurance switched during the time I was doing PT. I was communicating through email with the front desk and sent everything she needed. Turns out, she never entered the information so then I had to go through the hassle of sorting everything out, getting refunds, submitting new claims... all of which could have been avoided. read more

If you are in pain, do not go here. I was a patient for 5 weeks under Dr Brannon Frank's care and I literally suffered in agonizing nerve pain the entire time. I did not sleep for 23 days (literally) and after weekly appointments and 2 epidurals I was told that there was nothing they could do and I should get surgery. I went to the ER 3 different times to get a shot of morphine because the pain was intolerable. They do not prescribe opioids (which I completely understand and respect) but in my case they were 100% medically necessary. Dr. Frank made me feel like a drama Queen and a burden anytime I reached out. I'm a highly functional career woman with 2 active teenagers and I was not able to work or function on any level while under the DOC's care. I eventually went to a Pain Management Specialist who immediately prescribed a short-term supply of pain meds and did a nerve block the same week (which Dr. Frank specifically told me would not address my pain when I proactively asked him to do one). I've had 2 nerve blocks and an ablation since and started getting significant relief within the first week. I am now completely pain free and am so glad I found my new doctor. Not only is he extremely personable and empathetic ( two qualities Dr. Frank lacks) he was able to provide the relief I needed quickly and with non-invasive procedures. Note: I only took the opioid for 2 weeks and have not needed to take it since. Praise Jesus! I am beyond grateful for the relief but am very frustrated that I spent 5 weeks in pain when there were clearly options. Unless you're getting physical therapy, please don't waste your time with the DOC if you're in significant pain. I was hesitant to write this but feel obligated to help prevent my experience from happening to someone else. read more

My daughter hurt her elbow on a Friday night. She's not a drama queen a about injury or illness so it wasn't til Sunday that I realized she would need medical attention. We had a busy week ahead and I really preferred skipping the middle man and seeing a specialist right off which is what brought us here. We live far, so we came in from Llano and arrived 10 minutes before closing time. I prepared myself to be thick skinned about a possible issue with this, after all, I drove almost 2 hours. When we walked in we were told there were a few ahead of us and that there would be a wait. Other than that, we were very welcomed. They had trouble verifying my insurance so I did have to pay the cash payment which I felt was reasonable. When the nurse got to us for check in, X-rays were done immediately & then we went to the room. This eliminated going in the room, seeing the dr, then going for X-ray, then seeing the dr.....what a waste of time! I like that they get the X-rays done right off the bat!! We saw the PA. She took her time. She was great!! Her and her staff splinted my daughter's arm and were super friendly. Cute clean professional office too! Would definitely recommend!! read more

I wanted to like this place. The only reason I give two stars is because of the customer service. The front desk ladies were super nice to me. No complaints there. A random guy called to follow up a few days after my visit. He claimed to be a doctor but well... Somehow I just doubt it. He was nice though. Anyhoo the facility itself was pretty modern. It is nicer than most clinics and a few doctor offices. It is set up to look modern and attractive. Lots of bright colors and open space. Bathroom was clean. Ok so after like hella xrays I finally get to see the nurse or whatever she actually is. She was also nice but here is the thing... I came in with a knee problem. First issue she did a range of motion test that actually made my knee worse because she twisted my foot outward then bent my knee which hurt really bad. Yes I told her and she stopped. But damage was done. She then looked at the xrays and literally went to some search engine. After a few minutes she told me I had horrible knees for my age, diagnosed me with degenerative arthritis, prescribed some anti inflammatories and referred me to a PA but also scheduled me for another appt. Long story short I didn't fill the scrip, didn't go to the PA, and didn't go back. Did a lot of research on my own and it turns out I just needed to rest my knees a bit longer. I looked up rehab exercises online and started with those and now I am lifting weights again and even full squatting albeit lighter weight. I don't deny having some degeneration as it varies by genetics, level of activity and weight but I don't think she realized how much of a mind fk her inexperienced, googled diagnosis was. I played tennis semi professionally and also competed in martial arts for years which are both hard on your knees. The last few years I have only lifted weights which is much less strenuous but because of her I wss seriously worried about the future and my mobility. If I weren't a mentally strong person I could've easily been depressed. Even if she had been right it felt like she gave a sentence rather than hope or a path to wellness. Bottom line I won't go back or recommend. read more

They referred me to an imaging place for an MRI in which I was over charged $356 and had to fight for my refund. Next I had a surgery consultation set up for today Monday July 12th. I had rearranged my schedule to accommodate this appt all to find out they canceled it when I arrived. Instead of fitting me in or considering options they turned me around and said I would have to reschedule. Doesn't seem like good business practice to not keep your end and expect people to feel comfortable going under the knife afterwards.... This place is GREAT! My son hurt his ankle during a weekend soccer game. We made an appointment for Sunday and he was seen a few minutes early! It was also easy to make his appointment online. When we arrived the front desk people were kind and knowledgeable. They explained the weekend insurance protocols, then explained the range of possible costs with the visit! After a few quick X-rays, the doctor did a thorough physical exam, asking my son questions the entire time. He explained the X-rays and gave his diagnosis. He recommended a boot. We happened to have one in the car and the doc put it on for my son. At check out, the cost was definitely at the low end of the ballpark numbers we were given and much less than we expected on a Sunday afternoon! read more

There are pros and cons (more cons) to this medical office. Pros: Their hours. They stay open until late, which gives flexibility to scheduling. The other is the office staff and PA are very nice (we never saw a doctor). Cons: I was suspicious of the number of office appointments we had to make for my son's elbow fracture and all of the X-rays. So many X-rays. We had to pay a co-pay for each visit and they wanted X-rays every appointment (5 in all). I know that's equals out to a lot of billing for the insurance company, which, that's what insurance is for, but still, it seems excessive. Also the wait was horrendous. Every appointment was at least 30 minutes late if not over an hour from your appointment time. If you're responsible like us we get to appointments 10-15 minutes before the time. So that makes you sit there for an hour and a half or longer. Every time. There were so many people in the waiting room and it seemed like only the PA was there. The apologize but that doesn't make up for the wait. In the end, I think we got adequate medical care but it seems like the big company that owns this multi-clinic establishment is putting revenues over patient care. read more

Went by reference of pcp due to my son had a bad foot injury and needed to have X-ray to confirm broken foot. The MAIN focus was is Payment.... Insurance card was given and active!! Desk rep was not knowledgeable on the insurance and insisted on calling the company to confirm what was covered. It was 5pm in the evening office was closed, there for DOC rep insisted payment had to be paid upfront before service is given. Meanwhile my son is in pain No regards or concern for the patient just wants to be paid!! With insurance no one should have to pay cash,debt or credit upfront when medical services are needed. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! No care for the HUMANITY all they care for is the Money how they will get paid.... hours later and many places before going to emergency my sons foot was broken and is now being treated. NO THANK YOU to Doc orthopedic shame on you for being more concerned about how payment is going to done before helping a patient then the well being of a patient.... We discovered DOC via a friend of the family who had a great experience. After injuring both of my ankles at once and wanting to avoid an ER visit, I walked in and got seen quickly. The staff were professional, courteous and sympathetic, and got me through the x-rays quickly. I was seen by Mandi Amburn, a PA on staff there who helped fit me for boots and set up my physical therapy. What could have been a very traumatic and long day turned into a quick visit and treatment that helped. They have a lot of knowledge, skills and on-hand equipment to make sure you get diagnosed quickly and correctly, and they really DO take walk-ins. I was able to get an appointment to see about pain in my hands via their website, got seen and got more progress on treating the ongoing issues with my hands there than I have just about anywhere else. But when I received the bill, they contacted me, and I realized that I have an outstanding workman's comp case that had nothing to do with my appointment with DOC. I told them to please resubmit the bill and indicate on the bill that "it was not due to the WC case." They did that and my insurance paid them in full after DOC resubmitted it. I went to DOC today and when they looked online they saw that it said "WC was preliminary payer, I told them that this happened before and I was told by the insurance company for them to just write "not due to WC" when they submit the bill, and it would be paid in full like last time. All my other doctors do this and have no trouble. Well, after an hour and a half in excruciating pain they said "sorry if you want to see the doctor you have to give me $200. 00 right now before you see him. I did not have the money and left. Ruptured Tricep tendon. There was an unwillingness to give a diagnosis after clearly explaining how my tricep felt. Got a second opinion the next day based off of the X-ray taken by DOC. Second Dr immediately scheduled MRI and surgery to repair ruptured tricep tendon. Being prescribed Prednisone and being told to come back next week for a follow up, while having a ruptured tendon was unacceptable. Staff seemed nice. read more
