I had no issues with the alarm service itself. But I do have major issues with shady business practices. I do realize that ADT corporate is different from installers like DPS and my complaint is more with corporate, but I feel it is my duty to inform potential DPS customers what it is like to work with ADT. DPS did my initial install and while they have been professional and courteous, they are attached to a deceitful company. Last fall, I decided to sell my house. I wanted to upgrade my control panel to an all-digital panel as part of sprucing up the house for sale. A tech came out to check out my equipment. He quoted me a price for the new panel and came out the next day to install it. I have now moved and called ADT to cancel my service. I was informed that when I upgraded my control panel, I signed a 2 year contract. Well, I was not informed of this by the tech. Did I read the purchase document for the panel? No. I'm admitting fault on that - but I was told it was just for the panel. Again, I told ADT (both in my initial reach out and in person with the tech) that I was doing this to upgrade for a MOVE. I made it clear I was LEAVING. Why on earth would I agree to a 2-year contract extension? After more than an hour on the phone with ADT trying to get it canceled (I was transferred 5 times) I was told I got the penalty reduced to "$22/month for 12 months." Before I signed (as I was in a hurry as I was at work and had already spent more than hour trying to get a simple contract canceled), I asked the account manager if there were any other hidden fees associated with the contract. He said no. Imagine my surprise the next day when a self-install unit arrived at my door with a pricetag posted to my account for ~$400. Once again, the account manager knew I was living with family and did not want or need an alarm. I do believe I was intentionally set up twice - and fell for it. That is on me. It's on ADT that I was set up. Nefarious business practices. I reported this to the BBB and a day or so later, I got an offer from ADT to reduce my penalty by $500. (The penalty was originaly showing as $1,300.) So now it's down to $700 but I am not giving up on principle. I was a customer for more than 8 years. I paid every bill on time every month. When I buy my new home, you can bet for certain it will NOT be with ADT. read more

Updated review: while our alarm system is working well, we've had trouble over the years getting timely responses to service issues. Usually multiple calls have to be made before getting a response. We did upgrade our system with them a couple years ago, and they were quick to renew our contract then. But when there have been glitches or problems, we find ourselves working through the national center rather than our local providers. I chose DPS because of the Yelp review but obvious I was mistaken. I told Mart I needed a solution so that I can leave some windows open for a small portion to let air in (especially for summer night). She offered that a summer vent solution can be done which involves using 2 magnets per sensor. On the day of installation, the technician told me Mart did not mention to him at all and therefore he has no extra magnets with him. I immediately contacted Mart and raised my concerns to her, no response. I texted her multiple times and no response and finally 3 days later she texted back saying she will check if "they" will mail her. It's been 3 weeks and no response no follow up and I was completely ignored. In addition, I was notified on the day of installation that the technician will be 4 hours late. It's completely unreliable. It took 3.5 hours for the technician to install a few sensors because he didn't know how to set up using cellular as he was relying on wifi set up. Overall experience was very bad. I don't know how they got 4.8 star review. There are many reliable and responsive ADT authorized dealers around I am sure you can find a better one. read more

I've been holding off on a review for quite some time because I wanted to see how the system works(super simple, no malfunctions). I was able to request an online quote, speak to Michael through the phone, schedule a presentation within 5 hours. Why did I suddenly look into an online system, you ask? The day before Halloween, MY BIRTHDAY, I heard footsteps in my back patio. No biggie, theres tons of raccoons, skunks, and squirrels around. This one was different, this one swung open our back door, walked on our wooden patio, got barked at by my 2 small(they act big) dogs, then closed the door behind them as they left. I don't know what kind of raccoons you met in your life, but I sure hope they don't know how to close the doors after they leave. That a smart ass racoon. I woke my hubby up but he insisted I was going crazy. You know. Husband talk. This all happened between 3am-4am. The next day on Halloween around 10:30pm, I was putting my shoes away in our sun room. As I opened our sun room door, I heard our front door open then slam shut. We have a wooden door and a gate right outside of it. I stood frozen. From that moment, I was cold, sweat down my neck, hairs standing on my back crap, begging the Hubs "we need to do something". I called it into the police department who sent a few patrol cars over to drive by. I still didn't feel great about it. I'm usually home alone with a baby so HELL NO, I was not going to be a sitting duck as intruders were learning their way in and out of our house. The next day I called ADT and have never looked back. UPDATE (3/12/18): I had previously left two separate 5-star reviews based on my two installs with Mike and Direct Protection. They were great before the sale/install. However, after everything was completed the service dropped quite a bit. I had an issue with my billing and it was a very simple question/fix. Unfortunately it ended up taking 3 weeks to resolve because of the lack of response or care. Several of my messages were ignored. I hesitated to update my review, but when I saw others also highlighting the same issue, I decided to update mine as well. I did keep the original below as it's only fair. She gave me a run down of their experience, what can help me, what fit my needs, what generally works, and obviously, how far can I go with the system. She is professional and courteous to her suggestions, and she can be the reality check of what is really needed. Cost: Well, this is the main reason I went with ADT. They had been in the business for a long time. Established. The question I asked myself, a dollar a day protection? who can beat that? how about $2 a day? Honestly, I don't flinch when I pay a coffee at Starbucks for $5 which I will pee in about an hour so yes, I went with the Z-wave top tiered protection. Package: Mart will not talk you out to buy everything. Seriously, basic can do. It comes down to what I needed. Which is no wonder they earned every single 5-star on their yelp! No up-selling. If you were able to give an extra star, Mike & Mart would get it hands down .. simply because they are BEYOND amazing! I mean, really? How does a business even have five stars after 220 reviews, if not for the fact that they're just THAT good. I contacted Mike via Yelp at 4 in the morning and he replied 2 hours later. I wasn't expecting a response until maybe 8 or 9am, not 6. So, already, I was really impressed. I just moved into a new warehouse for my business so I needed to have a security system ASAP. For that reason, I voiced to Mike that I wanted to have the security installed same day, if possible. He then set an appointment with me for a consultation at 8 AM. My business partner and I met up with Mike and Mart and they went through everything with us. They made everything very easy to comprehend and even gave us a great deal! I would say the consultation took roughly 20 to 30 minutes. After that Mike helped us set an appointment with ADT to have someone come and install the equipment. Someone came around 2 PM and finished installation after about an hour and a half. Everything just went so smoothly and way better than anything we could've asked for!
