Note: In rare instances, the signal between your dish and the satellite might be temporarily lost due to a severe storm. It will be restored as soon as the storm passes. Misleading choice of wording in their troubleshooting message. It should state "Note: In frequent instances, the signal between your dish and the satellite will be temporarily lost due to any storm." My signal has been out for 5+ hours due to a snow storm. DirectTV obviously uses outdated technology. Thankfully, my Garmin does not lose satellite reception due to a storm. read more

i just hung up with a service rep from direct tv.I did not order but she would not let me take the night to think about it after she quoted me a price of $114 am month for 2 years including tv and internet.I got a feeling in my gut because of her aggressive manner i wanted to think about it she then lowered the price to $94.She wanted a credit card number and then would send me an email with all the facts she discussed,when i asked why not send me all the info in an email for me to digest without me giving her my credit card info?Her reply was im giving you something and i need to give her something,so i did, I gave her a hang up. read more

Definitely getting caught in the crossfire between the supposed (past) relationship between #directtv and #verizonfios. They're misleading their customers... I signed up for Verizon fios internet and cable... but they didnt have cable service on my street yet. They offered me a direct tv cable package with the understanding that when Fios got to my area it'd be an easy switch over. I lived with direct tv for a year with crappy service. If it was cloudy it would stop working. Now, fios is my area.... yay! But wait, it took like 6 hours for them to install.... the installer was nice so I don't blame him. Oh and I'm getting charged $300 to cancel directv??? So confused. Both companies are now shrugging their shoulders as if im the stupid one for doing this in the first place. Apparently I am... From the time we had it installed DTV has lied to us. Supposed to get the Jeannie. never got it. After we ordered and had it installed they claimed we never ordered the Jeannie. After not seeing the rebates promised I called and was told it was after 30 days and to late to claim the rebates. DTV said I had to call to claim the rebates. We where never told we had too. DTV wanted to charge $5 to order a PPV over the phone. You can order on the Internet for free. Other vendors allow you to order PPV from the box via remote. They sent a separate box for US to hook up so we can order from the TV. Over 3 hours on the phone with tech support and it still doesn't work. Now I have a message saying the Reciever cannot connect with the satellite. Tech support cannot get it fixed after 3 attempts and over an hour of my time. Now the want to charge me for a call to service there equipment. On top of that they can only come between 8 and 4. Sorry but my wife and I work. if I want a weekend I will have to wait 2 weeks. Wow, These guys think they are so bad....been a customer for many years. Just went to reactivate my service from a temp deactivation and they tried to charge me double what I was paying. I then asked about retention deals since I am not in contract and they blew me off. I find it very hard to think that any cable company is secure enough in this economy where the new subscriber activation numbers are lowest in history, to just blow off a customer willing to give them money every month. Without a second thought.... Done with DIRECTV. There are other companies who are willing to give me a great deal to have me as a customer. Shame on you DirecTV, though I should have expected something like this. I remember when this company cared about its customers. I wish I could rate with negative stars. I despise this company. I was forced into using their services because they were the only service provider in my area. They could care less about their customers. All they care about is how much money they can siphon out of your wallet. Their customer service is horrendous. The service in general is poor. The satellite box you pay for is extremely old and out of date. The guide is slow and kludgy. Their basic TV offerings are expensive and they don't give you all the channels that you would normally get on Verizon or Comcast. The service itself is always sketchy, good luck with service if there is a storm rolling through the area. I used to "love" the commercials about the "stupid cable van being outside all the time, ripping out this and tearing out that". What a crock of sh*t. Also, I hated the fact that I'm using their service, but yet, I'm forced to have to watch their stupid, idiotic commercials. Comcast finally became available at my location. I called DirecTV to cancel my service. I was told service was to be cancelled on 8/9 and they cancelled it on 8/6, that even includes cancellation of shows that were recorded on the DVR... thanks DirecTV. After my cancellation call, I was inundated with phone calls from their sales people begging me to come back, with supposed offers to cut my monthly bill in half... where were these great discounts for the past two years of my subscription and why weren't they offered to me? These guys are a joke. Unfortunately all the other options are a joke too. Was a 4 year customer and finally cancelled. They were supposed to send me a box to return all of my receivers and they never sent the box. A month later I got online to check my account to find out I was going to be charged $286 for the boxes that weren't returned. I called and they told me that I was going to get charged the $286 in a couple days and my box to return would arrive shortly after. In which case I could return the boxes and they would reverse the charge. Ridiculous. Why are you charging my card??? read more

Let me add my 1 star rating to the rest of the negative reviews here. Today I called direct tv over an issue where I can't correct my reciver to the Internet. Their solution is to install a cinema connection kit. The rep explained that had I ordered this with the original installation the CCK would have been free. Now it's considered an upgrade which will cost me an additional $99.00. I refused and for the balance of my contract I will experience sub standard service.. Everyone that I know personally, and on social media will hear about my dissatisfaction. I will also lodge a complaint with the MA Atty. Generals Office. This will establish a pattern of poor customer service. If director tv had offered me the CCK, and had I refused it's installation the blame would have been on me. Direc tv position is that I should have known. Really? Now I'm supposed to be a satellite tv installer? Don't expect the same level of service that you received from directv prior to AT&T. I was interested about switching from Comcast over to direct tv but didn't know much about it. I did some research online and called them in hopes that I could get a few questions answered and potentially make the transition from Comcast. I was completely turned off after spending 3-5 minutes on the phone with the sales person. she was incompetent, arrogant and had absolutely 0 business ethics. In the beginning of our conversation, she wouldn't, that's right wouldn't answer any of my questions unless I committed to a credit check. I explained that I had great credit, was genuinely interested and if I could learn more I would move forward however I would not commit to an unnecessary credit inquiry if it wasn't what I was looking for. She then went on to slam Comcast for 2-3 minutes. I explained I don't have an issue with Comcast I wanted to learn more about direct tv. She rambled on for a couple of minutes about superior claims to their competitors but never asked me what I was interested in or what my questions were. I finally interrupted her and told her what was important to me and what I was looking for. She initially resisted addressing my questions and concerns because I had not earlier committed to the credit check. I explained these were reasonable questions. She told me HBO, SHO, & MAX were free for 3 months. I asked how much would they cost to keep them? She asked for a credit check. I refused, she then told me $40. I asked if it was $40 each or total. She refused to answer without a credit check. Finally after another minute or two she told me $40 for the 3 premium channels total. I asked a couple more questions which she wasn't helpful in answering but I really was interested in switching to direct tv so I hung in there as useless and arrogant as she was. The breaking point for me was when I asked about contracts and agreement details. Regular question or two, "if I sign a one year contract could add or subtract premium channels during that time or would I be penalized or would it extend the contract?" She said they only offer 2 year contracts. I told her I was on the website looking at an add promoting 12 month agreements. She said "that's just marketing we only have 2 year agreements". I asked again why on the site is there multiple 12 month promotions scheduled? She put me on hold. She returned about 30 seconds later and again asked to do a credit check disregarding my questions around 12 month agreements. She responded by telling me she had already answered enough of my questions. I asked her how she expected me to move forward with her deceitful behavior and disregard for my promotional/contract agreement question. She told me she would willing to discuss it if I committed to a credit check and would not answer any questions around channel line ups, packages or agreements otherwise. I've never had an interaction with any kind of sales professional like this. I legit wanted direct tv and I'm a really laid back guy. I only had like 3-4 questions.......and I still do. If the representative was lying on top of being completely useless while trying to get my business, how brutal is this company's customer service when they have you locked in a contract for a year or two. There are not very many certainties in life, but I'm certain the sun will come up tomorrow and I will NEVER do business with Direct TV. This review has nothing to do with cost. I find all services roughly the same. This has to do with customer service, and Direct TV has the worst in the industry. I have been a loyal customer of Direct TV for over 6 years. The ONLY thing keeping me loyal is the NFL package as I live out of my fan city. In the past 6 months I have had to replace all 3 of my HD DVR receivers for malfunctioning. I am charged $20 for shipping each time, even though they have sent me refurbished, sub par units. Each time I reactivate the new receiver, my programming, setup, or overall settings needs to be restored from scratch. Yesterday I spent almost 2 hours on the phone collectively with agents,and each of the 3 I dealt with gave me totally different reasons for my issues. I have a wireless setup to order on demand movies on Direct TV via just a remote click. This feature has not worked yet. Of the past 8 movies, I have had to spend 20 minutes on the phone with an agent to get the movie going...some convenience that is. They have never even offered me a credit to the movies I have had trouble ordering. Direct TV movies are almost $6! I have decided just to spend my hard earned dollars at the Red machine at the grocery store for a $1 per night. Many of my friends and neighbors have switched from Direct TV to FIOS and are very happy. My husband and I have decided that after the next account with horrible customer service, we will be switching as well. I'm certain that will be soon. Stick with cable or FIOS. read more

I recently suspended my service due to a unexpected move. I was on the phone with direct TV twice about my situation. the last phone call.. to change my address.. i was told there would be a $50 fee because i ended my agreement 5 months shy of 2 years. no biggie.. i wanted to go back so i took the hit.the agent i spoke to while changing my address completely hacked it up. UPS called and left a message that they have my return boxs however dont know where to send them. when i got the UPS manager on the phone later that evening he told me that he spoke with another agent on the phone and my box would be shipped back to direct TV until someone from the company called me within the next two days to fix the error that their agent made. Two days later i noticed the company went into my bank account and withdrew $230.00 without a notice. two days after that i was in the red over $500 because checks could not clear and my bank paid out on it anyways. when i called direct tv about the situation the agent was quick to try to get me off the phone. i refused.. i wanted a supervisor. 10 minutes on hold later i got the first supervisor. a woman that took everything i said personal. i was speaking with her for 25 minutes. i asked to speak to another supervisor or her manager.she said she was as high as it gets and there is not another supervisor working. she ended the call with me before i was through. of course i called back. surprise! i got a completely different supervisor to take my call.. again 20 mins later i was told he does not have a manager i could speak with.they don't take calls..well what do they do then.. they have a "president office" he tells me.. yet i would need to write to them no 800 number he said.. i feel like both supervisors took my anger as a personal attack towards them.. they did not want to help me nor assist me in the right direction. horrible customer service skills.. i am a laid back woman. i have also been in customer service for 7 years.. i know how call centers work..they have agents, supervisors, managers, asst directors and then the director of the dept. why i couldn't get the address to the presidents office was crazy.. i was told to google it. all i wanted was direct TV to make this situation right. there agent took my address wrong.. he also feed me bs to just get me off the phone as quickly as he could and now i have to swallow a negative bank account for the holidays?? great work guys!!.. read more

You no , I have never in my life wrote a review on ANYONE in my life. but today has been probably the craziest day I have had in a while. Im in AW that this place in is business for what they pulled today and if I had either A. the money to pursue legal charges or B. the Time to do so I would make sure that somebody from this company pays for what they pulled today. I set up new services approx. 4 days ago and was told I would have to wait for the installation appointment which is fine. I set up the appointment for today the 9th. I have to work so I have my mother here who is also the landlord to give the okay and make sure everything goes smoothly. mind you I sign up for 1 DVR box and 1 standard box. and to be perfectly honest I don't even care about the DVR. BUT if I am being charged for it they absolutely I want what your charging me for. The tech guy tells my mother that his order is for 1 standard box. that's it. my mother over hears me say something about DVR so she calls me to inform me. The tech guy pursues to tell me that his SUGGESTION to me is to call 1800 DirectV. that if he called his superiors that they would instruct him to leave my premises and to charge me a 100$ installation FEE?? So while I am AT WORK I call you guys . on the line for almost an entire hour and a half having them tell me three way call my house so that they can talk to the tech guy and me at the same time. mind you I don't even think I have 3way call I haven't done that since I was 14? Also , because they don't no whos at my house. ?? those computers cant tell you? mind you after 30 minutes of disagreeing ,to talk to a manager , I finally get ahold of them. The Installer LEAVES my house. with no warning. no phone call. no telling my mother. and Installs NOTHING. So now our phones get disconnected and nobody calls me back. till 3pm I get home and I call you guys. and after ANOTHER 45 minutes of waiting and waiting because the supervisors were "busy". which so wasn't I at work. so after waiting I get ahold of a man who after the 9th person and 9th "I am very sorry sir, please bear with us, were doing EVERYTHING we can" I am a little agitated. The man tells me that there booked until the 18th of September. NO why would I have to wait another 9 days for there mistake?? I got no compensation. I got no Courtesy Phone call Explaning what happened. I got nothing. and STILL no cable. 5years of problems with charter communications doesn't add to the 1 day of problems I had with you guys. THE only thing I will say . is that every person I talked to never once raised there voice at me. they were all courteous and professional. The service men you put in the field as shields to dodge all the bullets you guys fire at people. Better business bureau, and all 1,200 of my facebook friends will be sure to hear about this. Why didn't I listen to all the bad reviews I read about Direct TV! People...please listen! From the start they did not bundle my order with Verizon. I had to sign up all over again because prices were not what was quoted by DTV agent. I had to take a day out of work and was tied up on the phone for over two hours! I still didn't get the price quoted...not many people do...such false advertising. Theses two companies take your money but neither conducts or communicates with the other. After two months my remote volume didn't work and they said I had to buy another one for 15.00. Needless to say I didn't ! Almost every night my picture freezes then starts or we loose reception. You should hear my husband when that happens during a football game. I could go on. We are locked in for another year and half . I'm really considering getting a digital receiver and get the free channels thru it....it's not like getting 150 channels but really... Do you really find that much good TV on cable channels? If I could give 'no stars' for Direct TV -- I would. The tech showed up a half hour after the time slot I was expected to wait for him. Mind you I took the day off for this. He took a cigarette break before he would begin the job & because he took many cigarette breaks during the install & he was trying to recruit my neighbor to become a tech it took him until 9 pm to finish the work. Finally hooked up & 2 years later I decided to move to the condo unit next door to me & asked them to wire me in over there. Well apparently that's not a possibility for many reasons. The tech who showed up to do the job announced that he was having a bad day & really wanted to go home. Funny how he claims after checking for 10 minutes that there's no signal where the dish will have to go so it will be a week before he can get a supervisor to come out & check for a signal. What!?!?! Clearly he didn't feel like working anymore that day so I wasn't going to get service. Mind you I'd been without tv for a week already waiting for this appt & I had a teenager in the house having tv withdrawals...another week for a 'maybe' from the supervisor was not acceptable. The dish that I was using in the old condo unit was functional & had signal but they wouldn't hook me into that one. I ended up canceling with them (already past 2 yr agreement date) & called Dish Network to come out. They came within 2 days of my call, the tech was on time, courteous, knowledgable, and had me wired in & connected within 2 hours. Hardly ever lost satellite coverage (only when snow covered the dish & that was remedied by wiping off the dish when needed). So here's the kicker...I kept getting calls from Direct TV wanting to know why I cancelled with them -- so I would tell them that I was told they couldn't get a signal there so I went with Dish who had no problem. They continued to try to talk me into going back with them. Clearly they weren't listening to what I said 'no signal'. They tried offering me discounts & incentives -- again not listening 'no signal'. I would get multiple phone calls from them each day. I finally had to lose my mind & yell at them to stop calling me to try to convince me to get a service they can't provide me. They continued to send me letters in the mail & flyers trying to regain me as a customer. Why?? Idiots!!! Do not get Direct TV you will be very sorry in the long run. read more
