I had a seriously horrible experience with DIRECTV. I was going to sign up and I did however the Internet company could not hook up Internet to my house for over a week and I got this package with DIRECTV never hooked up DIRECTV but was billed more than $100 for service and it had never been hooked up? But yet I'm still being billed so I called and was told I'll receive a partial refund and then to cancel the service. I had to talk to somebody else and that person told me I'm going to get billed for the whole month until June and I had 14 days to cancel my service and that was two days ago however I did not even have Internet for seven of those days so how am I supposed to have connected it when I did get Internet? I still didn't connect it and I got billed for it and I talked to DIRECTV a couple weeks ago to cancel and was still billed and I'm being told I'm going to be billed so this is just horrible service and I guess I'm going to have to go through my bank for this one. Here it is, months later, and DirecTV still has not provided us with an alternative to an NBC affiliated channel. It has been months since they terminated their arrangement with the local Phoenix NBC affiliate, and we still don't have a replacement. I have now missed dozens of NFL football games and now it seems I will miss more post-season games as well. You would think that with all the NBC affiliates across the nation, they would find one who can provide NBC channel programming for customers like me. I just ran into an evidently recurring problem with Direct TV--charging undisclosed fees identified as a "credit management fee" on new accounts. When my first bill came this month it had this $199.00 fee on it and when I called I was told it was a fee they charged for running a credit check on new accounts. I pointed out it was never disclosed either verbally or in the written confirmation of order I received that specifically itemized all charges-- including the one time initiation of service charge of $19.99. I read on a forum that this fee relates to having poor credit, but I officially have an "excellent" credit score per the three credit bureaus so this should not apply even if it were the basis of such charge. The Rep I spoke with today said she could do nothing to resolve this improper fee and she refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor because she said she had been consulting with the supervisor during my phone call. This undisclosed fee issue is evidently common with Direct TV and my next step will be to search for class actions that have been brought against Direct TV for this or similar conduct. Switching from DISH TV because of a programming problem certainly was a mistake. I found DISH customer service was excellent and they valued their customers. read more

Up until March 2024, I had DIRECT TV in combination with services provided through Centurylink which I utilized for my Internet services. When I decided to move in January/February 2024, I contacted Centurylink on February 7th to cancel the DIRECT TV services since that was not an option in my new community. They not only made note of this but also connected me with DISH since those cable services were available. I moved March 6, 2024, and subsequently disconnected the television and did not access any DIRECT TV services as the television was moved to the new residence. In April, I received a past due notice from DIRECT TV. Once again I communicated that I moved, had no access to DIRECT TV in my new community and had stopped utilizing DIRECT TV service in March. DIRECT TV continues to ignore that I started this cancellation process in February. They say they can only see a single call in April and, as such, continued to send bills for services in March even though I received NO services during March. I attempted once again to get resolution to this issue today. What a horrible experience. The computerized system hung up on me! Staff was less than helpful and I got absolutely nowhere despite requesting escalation to a supervisor. Trying to work with staff and the supervisor, they were more worried about not looking at the customer's needs and refused to further elevate or remove the balance. I share this long story to articulate that DURECT TV is a horrible company that does not look at the customer or human factor in making company decisions. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DIRECT TV - THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I DON'T OFTEN WRITE REVIEWS, BUT THEY HAVE MADE ME ANGRY AFTER SPENDING AN HOUR TRYING TO GET A $149.06 BILL REVERSED. I canceled my service in June and have a credit of over $100. dIRECTV assured me that I would be sent the money in a gift card and it would come in the mail in 4 to 6 weeks. It's mid September and I'm still waiting for my money. I've called DIRECTV TV several times and my account is supposed to be a "high priority" since I've been waiting so long. This is a dsysfuctional company that doesn't know what it is doing from one day to the next. I have the protection plan and should not be billed for replacement services such as remotes or defective receivers, yet they want to charge for these services. They don't listen to your concerns or issues and do exactly what they want. I have antenna problems in addition and they didn;t even address that. The receiver is 10-15 years old and now says it is overheating and turn off or a fire could be caused after only 5 minutes on. They want to charge to replace it. Excuse me. Why am I paying extra for the protection plan? Their people are all off shore and don't understand me. My dad had it a couple of years and decided to cancel. His password had been changed. I called in January and spoke to a customer service representative who told me his service address had been changed. In other words, one of their employees was giving free service to someone. I requested service cancelation and they refused because my father could not remember his security word. I was then disconnected. I called back and asked them to take notes and my number in case we were disconnected. They took it and we lost connection soon after. They did not call back. On April 1st, my dad found his security word and requested cancelation. Even though he wanted to cancel. They kept bugging him to not cancel and talked him into a different plan. Today, I called Direct TV and told them to cancel service. They told me it would be canceled as of the 22nd. I noted that the monthly service ended today and that he would be charged another 69.00 and after threatening to turn my attorney loose on them. They agreed to stop service today and that he was paid in full and owed nothing else. Fast forward 3 weeks. Me dad recieved an email from Direct TV stating that me dad owed $69.00 for opting out of his contract early. My wife spoke with a representative who stated they would not waive the fee and that he had to pay. This company is very frustrating to deal with and is bleeding my dad dry. read more

Worst ever from a customer service and customer support. Especially with all the alternates available with smart tv options. Today, I tried to add to more receiver boxes for older tvs I have. 35 minutes on (25 minutes on hold) the phone with an customer service person named Russell who did have a clue what he was doing, finally promise me I would be receiving 2 additional wireless genie receivers at no charge. An hour later I recieved an email from direct tv stating I was being charge $21 for delivery and only receiving one receive. There's bad service and then there's DirecTV. We ordered service last Friday and got an installation date of yesterday between noon and 4 p.m. (A 4 hour window is ridiculous but fine, we played along.) At 3:50, we received a call from a dispatcher stating that our installation guy was running a few minutes late. At 6 p.m., we called DirecTV only to discover that they had rescheduled our installation to THREE DAYS FROM NOW without asking or even informing us. My husband spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a supervisor who insisted that there was no way they could rectify this (as in coming sooner). If things were this rough just getting started, I shudder to think what an ongoing relationship might have revealed. We are going back to Dish with our tail between our legs. read more

Direct TV has lied on numerous occasions to me as a customer. I had upgraded and bundled with my at&t account to save money. I had their service for a year and a half I moved and had to pay $200 for reconnecting. When they came to reinstall at new home they said I can upgrade to genni 2 with no additional charge(I was billed $99)as some kind of one time fee. I am now moving again and ask to cancel service they gave me a total of $417.43 and I paid it in full. I went to cancel after payment and now they say i owe more money. I am so angry that they can lie on the phone and get away with it. I nore anyone I speak to will order direct tv again. They sell you on a deal that will cost far more than they are worth. I have spent more than 2.5 hours on the phone with various foreign countries trying to get DirecTV installed at our new home, Regrettably, DirecTV is the only TV service available in the condo development where we're moving. The first guy got everything wrong- the service location, the install date, the final price and my name. The next several phone calls trying to get things corrected got my name right- hopefully the price right- but the installation date and service address were still wrong. We finally determined that their scheduling system didn't work more than 30 days out. I called back for a 6th time today- 25 days before installation- they still have the service address as my old house and cannot change it to our new home. Why would I want service at my OLD house? Well, for some reason, they are unable to change it, but they THINK they have the new date right. But now it's bundled with Century Link for internet- that I don't need, didn't order and don't want. The customer service rep is trying to get me to her supervisor (been waiting 30 minutes) and is calling Century Link to try and delete the bundled service and correct the installation date and service address. I asked if it was always this difficult to try and sign up for service and she didn't know what to say. Cox doesn't service the new development for any services- I'm not sure why, but can only guess. You'd think that ATT could get this right? Absolutely the worst company I've every dealt with. I wish there were options, but there are not. NO - said I had a account, it sent me to new account sales. They transferred me, I said I want to cancel my account they transferred me again, I said I want to cancel my account, I got disconnected. So I called back and guess what, it all happens again, same way. So I went on-line and did a on-line chat . Of course she is trying her best to keep me as a customer and they will transfer my account to the new house. BUT I have to remove the dish from the rental I am currently living in and it is my responsibility to recycle it. I can hire a out side source to remove the dish, Direct TV does not remove it and they do not want it. I said that was not the agreement when installed, they also want to charge me for several weeks of service after my TV is shut off. So why would I want to continue service with a company like this. I told them I do not want your product on my new house, we are no longer a happy client . First let me say I've had directv for years ... without much complaint or problem until I moved... Today I tried calling to set up my service for my RV. I had their service in my RV before I moved, but once I moved they upgraded my equipment and my RV receiver will no longer work. (which they never mentioned) I ended up call and being transferred FIVE time and hung up on before being told that the only way I can have it in RV now is by setting up a 2nd account. But even that information was painful to get as I mentioned being transferred five times and hung up on. I lost my cool and hung up on the rep. Called Dish and was helped in my first call and offered a solution that was affordable. The very long story, short enough to get all you need to know is simple. Please save yourself the headache and trouble of poor customer service, dishonest communication and stalling tactics by not becoming a customer in the first place. Direct TV provides an enticing start up package and their customer indoctrination is superb but just as the drug dealer always gives the first dose free, they rapidly morph into a media giant with no concern for their customer nor the 'promises' they have made. Uncaring is to pleasant a word for their twisted excuse for customer service. They will tell you they are working on an issue only to have the notes of your conversation conveniently be lost in the 'system' or transfer you to 'the department who handles that thing' and in the end you are left with NO help, NO satisfaction and NO choice but to take the beating they give. My experience has been much like putting my hand into a meat grinder and I have had to cut it off to avoid being completely consumed by the total lack of caring or customer service... DirectTV has a "locked in " price that they are selling customers but it is only locked in if you are using DirectTV and AT&T Internet. I was sold this package last year and told my price lock would be good for 3 years. Well low and behold after 12 months, my price went up because I had my internet with Centurylink because AT&T internet is not available in my area. So because I do not have AT&T internet bundled with DirectTV, I am non-compliant with the contract and do not qualify for the price lock. The best they could do was try to get me to buy the movie channels to save $2.50 for 12 months, but my account increased by $8. A $2.50 decrease really is not helping me because if I forget to cancel it by month 12, I will be charged for the movie channel. This is a shame that people are coming around selling these bogus packages to people especially elderly people. read more
