Growing up on Mount Washington, I grew up eating the pizza from DiSalla's on Warrington Ave. Loved it. My Mother knew the Family. I took my fam back to the Burgh a couple of years ago, and found Disallas at the Junction. At 72, I never thought I would get to have The best Pizza I have ever eaten, but, I was over the moon when I tasted my first cut from Disalla's Munhall. Took me back to the '50's and was the best Pizza I have ever had. I live in the Nashville area now, but am planning a road trip to Disalla's, and Oakmount Bakery. ;-) read more

Their pizza used to be very special. A very unique smell and flavor to the sauce. But after it changed hands a few years ago, it's become very ordinary. It's just like high school cafeteria pizza. And I tried it a second time just in case I caught them on a bad day, but it was the same. Bland. So sad, but it's just not special anymore. read more

I've been meaning to try DiSalla's for a while and I'm really happy I finally found time to visit. This is a solid neighborhood pizza shop. I knew from the moment I walked in and the amazing smells hit me through my mask that this would be awesome pizza. Prices were low, though they make sense when compared to the size of the piece. I ordered two slices for dinner (which was $2.35 total), but I'll probably grab 3-4 slices next time. The pizza is light and airy, but with a nice crunch in the crust. Super good! Both front of house staff members were wearing masks and there was plenty of space to stand and wait. I can't speak to back of house since it wasn't visible, but fingers are crossed they're masked up back there too. read more

Genuine local mom & pop pizza...complete with little ol' lady in the kitchen gettin' busy. If the aroma you smell outside the place doesn't lure you in: your nostrils are defective. Have cash in hand because they don't accept (they do have an atm inside tho) the young lady working the counter is cool as hell. The pizza will make you slap the hell outta someone its that damn good. FRESH! Crust: crunchy with a HINT of garlic. The cheese...maaaaan. I will recommend this place to any and everyone. Grew up around there and hadn't had the Junction pizza in 20 years. Got two slices of mushroom and a slice of black olive for my wife. As good as I remember, and pizza-by-the-slice is awesome. If I lived closer, I'd be there more. read more

I also grew up loving "Junction" pizza and still look forward to picking up a full "pan" of pizza to take home. Since I now live out of the area, I opt for "half baked" - meaning finish baking at home. The pizza shop hasn't changed much but as soon as you walk in, the wonderful aroma hits you. My gf and I were excited to try this place because it was so close to our apartment and seems to have been around for a while. We were incredibly disappointed and both had upset stomachs after choking down a single square each. This is by far the most disgusting pizza I have ever had the displeasure of eating. It's pizza by the slice comes as squares (shape doesn't really matter to me tbh), but you know those crusty ass pieces of card board you'd get during school lunch with sauce and cheese melted on them that is the near equivalent to this but this was much much worse. The crust was tasteless and had a spongy crispness all the way through, the sauce tasted like watered down canned tomato paste/tomato soup, the cheese wasn't melted properly and the pepperoni was definitely not any pepperoni I've ever had it was more like chunks (THICCC chunks) of processed mystery meat. It was quite the experience and we will never go there again. We now flip the place off every time we drive by out of spite. I seriously don't know how anyone could like this place. read more

If you could give ZERO stars, I would....the storefront is bungy, and despite how this is typically an indication of a great spot (like NY Pizza in South Side), I left the parking lot pretty HANGRY because I could barely finish one piece of a whole pie it was so bad!!! After driving by several times and seeing decent-sized lines, I figured, "Hey they must be good!" only to find out they must cater exclusively to people with no tastebuds (or are an extension of the downtown soup kitchen, because why anyone would pay to eat this garbage is beyond me). Seriously no idea how this is allowed to be classified as PIZZA To start, square cuts are usually a bad sign, but can good of done right. This definitely was not! Imagine the frozen boat-shaped pizza by Stoffer's -- it had that texture, except the dough had absolutely NO flavor or seasoning (not even salt!) and instead of having a nice crispy center (like Stoffer's), it featured a uniformly uncomfortable crunch. Now imagine someone tried to make tomato sauce out of the stale splattered squirts from left-over ketchup bottles, then watered it down. And then used 20 year old canned vegetables from their 1999 doomsday bunker, but didnt even bother to cook them long enough with the entire pizza (yes....wet, smooshy, cold mushrooms and soggy peppers that tasted like tin almost made me hurl!). It would have been better if they left me a note to imagine the pepperoni instead of trying to pass the equivalent of whatever the f*ck Lunchables is off as such. Finally, all the cheese wasn't even melted, there were actually a few spots where the mozerella (if you could even call it that!) was cold, like, from being in the freezer... I almost went back inside to demand a refund, then realized this is just part of learning about your new neighborhood when moving. Tough $20 lesson I kept thinking back at just how bad it was, and no joke - WORST PIZZA EVER EVER EVER IN ALL MY LIFE. Save yourself the trouble and drive 8 minutes up the road to Italian Village Pizza...cheaper, friendlier, and a gagillion times more tastey! read more

I like the food, I like the people, and don't even mind the location (I live in Shadyside). Light crust, flavorful sauce, not overwhelming with add on ingredients; just the right amount for me. If you limited by time, best to call ahead and specific when you want the pizza to be ready, or you can get half cooked and finish the job at home. Price is fair and the counter people are respectful and polite even though you are just another face wanting pizza. After the first hundred customers it's had to keep authentic positivity. The interior is unvarnished but clean and maintained. (Could change the storm door; it's old and banged up). It's my first choice for pizza and the all around experience. I have no issues whatsoever with DiSalla's: simple, fresh, tasty, and fairly priced. read more

I used to go to this pizza shop when I was young and loved it then. Some how growing up and moving around I kind of lost my why back to this shop. I have been driving by now for years. Yesterday the wife and & was driving by and we decided lets give it a try. We were both totally satisfied. The pizza has a nice sweet sauce, the crust was unbelievable light and crunchy delicious. Best pizza by far! There really is no where in or around Pittsburgh that comes close. I haven't had DiSalla's in about a year so this past weekend I decided to order a tray. They honestly never disappoint. I live about 20 minutes from their Munhall location but it's so worth the drive. The pizza is still hot and delicious by the time I get it home. This is one of the fixtures of the area, predating the stores and restaurants in the waterfront. One of the best square slices in the city, 4 cuts with a topping is less than $6. The service is fantastic, I don't know what some of these people where reviewing, I never leave disappointed or hungry, and when I can do that for less than $10 nowadays that's a big win. read more

I haven't been back in years & I honestly expected a huge change in flavor, but was pleasantly surprised to find that they still had great pizza. I would definitely recommend having a few slices. This pizza is very good. Great prices. The slices are square cut. They almost remind me of school lunch pizza. Thats all you can get here. Strictly pizza so dont come for the variety! :) Price is per slice plus toppings. I recommend the bacon! Super yum. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that the hours seem to be hit or miss lately. Best Pizza in the Burg. Worst service in the Burg but fortunately I go there for the Pizza and not the service. Square cut, old fashioned crust. Great cheese and sauce. We order extra so we have plenty for Breakfast too. You can also order the Pizza without the cheese melted and then put it in the oven at home to melt the cheese. Also good option if you want to freeze it and eat later. A must stop on all my trips to Pittsburgh. But be warned, you can only buy Pizza and can not eat in. Grew up eating junction with my family. Square cut by the slice deliciousness. Light crust, somewhat spicy sauce, and very good cheese. No part of this pizza stands out above the others. Just as good cold or warm as it is hot. The quality is a hit or a miss sometimes, but when it's good it's great. If you like cheesy pizza you should order it with extra cheese. This was our pizza when my boyfriend (now my husband for 50yrs) & I would go after school dance or basketball or football games. Way back when it was only 10 cents a slice! Not kidding! Now when we visit family in Pittsburgh we always get their pizza and usually bring 3 or 4 boxes back to DE for our son & daughter (&family) to enjoy....they like it also! Four facts: 1. No tables or chairs, just a counter. 2. No credit cards accepted. 3. No beers, fountain drinks, cups, and cannot/will not provide a customer a cup of water. When I asked for a beverage the young man behind the counter pointed to a single soda machine in the corner. 4. No bathroom. I was told "go down about a quarter mile to the Wendy's.
