I spent a few (uh-hum) moments (more like an hour or so) there yesterday and I will say that they have improved so much in the store that you should go down and visit with the Staff and customers. I always love going in there to see how the sport of Disc Golf is growing and the customer base gets wider and wider. It is not uncommon to see retirees, families, newcomers, and veterans of the sport spending moments talking about the Ace they missed... or that Bogey that messed up the perfect game. We're total beginners. We felt totally welcome at Disc Nation. So affordable, too! While eating at Joe's we decided to try disc golf, like right now, on a whim. Didn't know squat about discs. Didn't know any courses. Called Disc Nation and 20 minutes later we're getting outfitted with a driver, a mid-range and a putter of second-hand (but looking new & unused) discs for $20 pp! Learned of several beginner-friendly courses close by. Staff patiently answered endless questions. Then showed us some basic grips. Then gave us flyers with rules and disc info. Here's how much I know about disc golf: you throw a disc frisbee-style into a chained bucket...or attempt to do so over and over. I've played a couple of times a few years ago. I'm not that great. I'll accidentally hit anyone with a disc who is anywhere near me, but I can't hit the darn bucket. In any case, my husband (who has never played) decided he wanted to try, so I stopped in to Disc Nation to pick up some cheapie discs to give my husband for Christmas. They have a plethora of discs, and apparently there are different types like drivers and putters...who knew?! I walked in and spoke with Zach. I said I wasn't sure that my husband would even enjoy disc golf so I sure as heck didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a hobby that lasts one or two days. They were having a buy-two-get-one-free sale on their used discs, so he asked if I was opposed to used. Of course not! He asked how much money I wanted to spend. I said no more than $20. He went through the boxes of discs and selected six discs (two sets) for $20 and some change. I was very appreciative of Zach's time and assistance, especially since I answered most of his questions with "I don't know." My husband and I haven't gone out to play disc golf yet, so I can't say we'll be back to Disc Nation anytime soon. But if we do get really involved, or if anyone else asks if I know a place to go, Disc Nation will be my answer. read more

My girlfriend bought me a whole bunch stuff for Christmas.....a Innova Disc Bag, Straps, a Caddy Seat, and a Towel totaling over $150 bucks. After Christmas I took most of it back with sales receipts in hand. Upon entering the store I was told that they didn't give cash refunds. I didn't see that printed on the receipt nor did I see that posted anywhere in the store but the sales clerk said that that was the store policy and that I would receive store credit / gift certificate. I ended up misplacing and losing that certificate and was told that they didn't keep track on those accounts and ended up losing out on that money. I spoke to the owner Mr. Neth who was unwilling to work supportively to resolve this matter. I will never do business there again.....ever! read more

After becoming familiar with disc golf and playing more and more I was told about disc nation. From the moment I stepped through the door I knew I would be back multiple times. Sometimes, I find myself not needing any new discs as I buy too many as it is, but still come to this gem on slaughter lane. The staff there is very nice and knowledgeable about every aspect of disc golf. The driving range can test your skills as it can be very windy at times and it is completely wide open. You can not only test out used discs but new discs as well which is a definite plus. In addition to discs they also sell all of the gear you will ever need from bags to markers to baskets to videos. Everything is fairly priced and the used discs range from 2-8 dollars which you can find many gems in their used bins. All in all if I want to buy a disc or just if I have any questions I know where I can go. This place is awesome and I would recommend this store to novices and masters alike. read more

It's awesome to be able to throw the discs before buying, especially if you're deciding between a few similar ones. They have fair prices here and all the employees I've talked to are nice and willing to help. Another great thing is that if you see something for sale on their website that's not available in store, you can order it and choose to 'ship to Austin store' and pick it up the next day (not sure if it's business day or any day). You see, I started playing disc golf about a year ago after making fun of some buddies for being hippies. They challenged me to come and play and see if it were so easy. Thing is, I was secretly wanting to be invited anyway to see what the big deal was. My buddy's friend was super cool and way nice and let me borrow one of his discs, it was a yellow approach with an Anarchy A on the top and a smiley face on the bottom. I really liked that disc and at the end of the game he gave it to me. I've been playing for close to a year with ONE disc. Last week, good ol' Anarchy hit his last tree. He got a nice crack on the side and it was ruined. Afterwards my buddy and I hit up Disc Nation. I was able to buy a used driver and putter for $15! That and they have a 'driving range' in the back area! This place is a SUPER STORE! They have TONS of used discs and a great selection of new shiny and super cool discs as well. They even have the ratings and their special attributes listed! I'm way too much of a novice to even know what the hell they mean. I'm already ready to go back and buy a new driver or two just to see the difference between them and my current one. Very nice folks too. read more

If you're anywhere in the Austin Metro area, this is the only store you should be going to for disc sports. By far the best offline selection I have ever seen. Also, the store is run by golfers, so whether you're new to the sport, or a seasoned player, these guys can help you with your game. You can even try before you buy on their driving range. They have all of the most popular discs in testers that you can throw, or you can crank out your own discs. You can also trade in your old discs for store credit to freshen up your bag. I recently purchased a disc from this store when using for the first time I realized that this disc was warped. When I tried to exchange the disc the owner told me it was not possible. The owner blamed the warping on the way it sat in my bag, I carry 15 discs in my bag hard and soft plastic, none of them have ever warped. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars between discs, bags, and accessories in this store. This made no difference to the owner. I guess repeat costumers are a thing of the past. I will never do business with disc nation again. This is unfortunate as they have a good selection. read more

Love the fact that we have a place like this in town promoting the sport. Their facility is great with a great location. Being able to test discs in their back yard is pretty cool too. The store has a policy of "checking bags" behind the counter upon entrance. I was VERY offended by this considering I'm a 43 year old man who rides a motorcycle and can not leave my backpack in a car. This is a backpack mind you and not a disc golf bag. It would have been an excellent trick to get merchandise into the backpack which was strapped to my back! If I were a 15 year old hoodlum it may be understandable but this was obviously not the case. I was quick to inform the associate that I'm not a thief and find their policy offensive. Won't shop there again. I'll buy my plastic from Play It Again Sports where I don't get accosted and treated like a thief. The owners may consider a better system of loss prevention than to insult customers. The staff is awesome - you can hand them an old beat-up disc without a label and they will identify it immediately. They're great at recommending discs and ask the relevant questions to help you zero in on the right fit for your needs. The selection is new discs is extensive and they usually have some decent used discs for sale, especially drivers. They let you throw discs in the back field behind the shop as well. Sometimes I just need a Champion Plastic TRex, and sometimes I need it right now. And sometimes, I don't have time for an online dealer to ship it to me and I don't want to settle with the lower quality options from Academy, Planet K, or Tylers, I want the real deal. So when need overtakes me, I always head to Disc Nation. This place is loaded with discs made of all different plastics, brands, shapes, weights, etc... The staff is knowledgeable and easy to talk too. They are more than happy to let you try out a few discs in the field behind the store to make sure you're making the right purchase. It is so easy to want to come onto yelp and write a negative review and so difficult to compel oneself to write a positive review. Disc Nation does not make it difficult to encourage one to write a positive review however. I took up disc golf as a hobby almost a year ago and this beautiful and warm mom & pop instantly put me at ease. The staff is willing to give advice and recommendations on everything from courses to gear to the discs themselves. There is a testing field out back so you can try your purchases before you buy and the staff can even aid you in placing special orders of you don't quite find what you're looking for. Disc Nation also offers used discs at fantastic prices and you never know what treasures you'll find when searching through those racks. Add in their highly addicting loyalty rewards program and if you're like me you will be a customer for life! I traveled to Disc Nation last week to pick up one of the new MVP Vector mid ranges and my heart was crushed (yes I wanted and needed this new plastic :-) when I found out that they were out of stock. Ready to accept the fact that I was probably going to have to wait for them to get more in stock, I was attempted to go after other shiny plastic when the sales rep and manager showed me their new in store order Kiosk. I only had cash on me and their online store online had (1) Vector left at the warehouse, so they processed a gift certificate for 16 and change and walked me through the online order process. Upon submitting the order it was noted that the final total did not include tax but my certificate was already processed for the smaller amount, so the Disc Nation manager covered the tax (2$ and change) at the stores cost since they processed the certificate and didn't include the tax. The next day when I went to pick up the disc, they not only had the 178 weight Orange/Red vector I ordered on the website but they showed me 10+ other vectors just in case I wanted to swap it for another color or weight. The service by both the sales expert (very knowledgeable and delightful lady) and the store manager offered service that I would expect from zappos, amazon, or apple. I was very impressed and will now be purchasing all of my DG equipment in store or online. For those that have not been there in a while they made some great changes to the store and now have all of the discs sorted by manufacture so you can easily find all of their driver, putters, and mids grouped up in one section. These guys are crooks, please DON'T support them! They basically screwed over everyone who attended the Lizotte clinic this week. I was VERY disappointing at them knowingly posting bogus promotional deals to sucker people into the event. Dont get me wrong, Lizotte is one of my idols and i was really stoked that Disc Nation in Austin was holding his clinic. I found out through a discnation facebook post. it didnt say a damn thing on the facebook invite about $20 to join the clinic, which I would have GLADLY paid anyways to get instruction from lizotte. INSTEAD the post intentionally left out that LITTLE detail and I drove for 30 miles to find out it was 20 bucks. ok whatever, i brushed it off. I understand that lizotte has to make money while doing this, but figured that the sales the event was pulling in would cover the promotion. THEN i when i tried to get the buy 2 get one free offer as advertised on their event invite they informed me that the ONLY disc you were allowed to choose as the 3rd free one was your choice in color of ONE single type of putter. Wow. What a play on words. Not even a play on words, more of trickery. "Buy 2 discmania discs and we'll give you a 3rd for free" is how the ad reads. I talked to several people at the clinic who also had thought it was "Buy 2 get 1 free". I know that this was done intentionally and the whole thing just really pissed a lot of people off. I complained to the register guy who basically told me to go shove it. He was rude, plain and simple. He looked at me like i was an idiot expecting a handout with a little irritated smirk on his face and repeatedly told me "thats just the way it is". What kind of a response is that? as a store you guys should pride yourselfs on a little heartier customer service because you have been my local go-to for plastic for quite a while now. A decent company would have honored the intentionally misleading advertisement, or not made the bogus claim to begin with. So i emailed them, and discmania. Discmania sent me back an apologetic email and gave me a 20% off voucher to make things good. Discmania is awesome. Disc NATION however responded back: We are very sorry you are upset with our store. We tried to obtain the cost information from Discmania last week and were unsuccessful. We did post all the information they provided to us on our facebook page and also added a link to their facebook page as well. We will in the future attempt to obtain more information about each event provided by the manufacturers so that our customers will have all the information before they arrive. Honestly if you'd have offered to honor your bogus advertisement (even dominos pizza honors misleading ads) the way it read I would have been happy to do business with you further, but seeing your level of unprofessional scapegoating, and unwillingness to even suggest such an offer, you guys clearly dont give a shit about 'just one' customer. Yes, you did just lose a loyal customer, and sure, i'll even do the decency of writing a review wherever i can, or telling a friend not to do business with you.
