IME, it is best to get work done after the hunting rush. Wait times get worse the closer you get to fall. Apr through Jul is usually best. I had a pistol Cajunized in the busy season and it took a little over a month. I took one in during mid-Spring, dropped it off at 11, and had it done same day by 4:30. The DA/SA are so much lighter and crisper. I have Cajunized one myself, so I know what is involved. It is surprisingly hard to find gunsmiths with experience Cajunizing, or with CZs in general. I guess it makes sense, they are far less common than Glocks, M&Ps, etc. I have had smiths tell me they do not work on CZs, or they say "we can do that, we'll figure it out," which is not comforting. Each time I came in, the associate at the counter brought me to talk to a gunsmith. He knew the order the parts go back in, that some jobs like the mag release are easier when everything is already apart, and that you have to remove the front sight pin to replace the barrel bushing. The sear cage is a nightmare to get back together, so I'm happy to outsource it. It's clear they do a bunch of them here, so it takes less time than me installing it or a smith doing it for the first time.

We were excited to go paddle boating, but the experience was extremely disappointing…read more The lake had so much algae that it wrapped around the paddle boat's propeller every few seconds, making it incredibly difficult to move. Instead of enjoying our time on the water, we spent most of it stopping to remove algae just so we could keep going. My biggest issue isn't the algae itself--nature happens. My issue is that the staff never warned us about the lake conditions before renting us the paddle boats. If we had known the algae was bad enough to make paddling this difficult, we never would have rented them. On top of that, one of our paddle boats had a broken piece on the hatch used to access the propeller. I personally had to go over and help my sister because she couldn't properly open and close it to remove the algae. Every time the propeller got wrapped up again, it made the process even more frustrating. I explained the situation to an employee and pointed out the broken piece. Instead of offering a solution, I was told there was nothing they could do and that she just needed to keep removing the algae and paddle her way back to the dock. Later, when she was still struggling, we were told it would cost $50 for someone to come tow or assist her. Because we were moving so slowly due to the algae, we ended up spending more time on the lake than expected and were charged an additional $16 for another 30 minutes. That extra charge could have been avoided if we had simply been told about the lake conditions before renting the boats. Instead of taking our concerns seriously, the response was essentially, "It's better in the spring." If that's the case, then customers should be told about the current lake conditions before they're charged. We could have chosen a different activity instead of paying for an experience that turned into a struggle from start to finish. Honest communication and properly maintained equipment would have made all the difference.

For a weekend morning we were happy to snag a spot and made our way down to the rental area. You can decide on single vs double kayaks or paddleboards and rent by the hour. We decided on an hour of double kayak and thoroughly enjoyed our time out on the water. They have plenty of life vests and the staff were helpful in helping us get in and out of the kayak. It's a gorgeous lake and on a hot summer day was nice and cool on the water. Great opportunity to get some exercise in while looking at the beautiful vegetation up and down the lake. It has been a while since I have been in a store where every store associate is super helpful and go out of their way to extend next level service. When I was an avid cyclist, Trek Bicycle was known as Austin's most dependable and all-around bike shop with a wide range of cyclist customers. I went into Trek for a two-fold purpose: 1) buy new bike shoes and 2) inquire regarding the status of my bike tires that have been seating in the garage for years (new tires or new tubes). When you walk into the store, you are met with a sea of bicycles...every color and style imaginable. Fortunately, I do not need a new bicycle because mine is in good shape. So, first, I inquire about my tires. The repair specialist was so super helpful, and he assured me that my tires might be ok. He suggested bringing the tires into the bike shop so he could inspect them. Next, I headed over to the bike shoe area, which is small but importantly they were having a sale. I snagged some $120 bike shoes for $30...score!!! Also, the sales associate offered to order me some insoles since they were out in my size. Super kind... The store sells a wide range of Trek bikes, including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric models, along with associated accessories and gear. The sales associates are top notch - super knowledgeable and not high-pressure sales folks. Mellow Johnny's was cool, modern & bright. This full service bike shop has quite literally everything you need. My friend bought energy supplements for a non-cycling event. Additionally, the staff was polite & answered all of my questions. Mellow Johnny's has a nice selection of bikes for sale , apparel, & other supplies. They were sold out of the more common sizes on the discount rack. However, I was pleased with my purchase. Prices are in line with what I pay in the Washington DC area. I would've rented a bike & jumped on a group ride if I felt better. Welp until next time!!

He was terse and seemed irritated I called as he informed me that it wouldn't arrive until October (this is June). {2020} I asked if I could get it any sooner or if I needed to preorder. He, in a very frustrated tone and manner, told me that I could call other stores around the country and see if they would be willing to ship it to me. I tried to explain that I was asking so that I could find out the procedure to buy and was trying to find out if I needed to pay for it in advance or pre-order it. After he let me know I wouldn't need to pre-pay; I started to ask another question with the intention of seeing if he had suggestions on other bikes that might work for me. When he interrupted me again with frustration in his voice, I hung up on him. Maybe he misunderstood the phrase "Keep Austin Weird" as "Keep Austin Wired". I'm guessing there are no commission sales. Either way, I'm pretty certain I can locate the model I am looking for elsewhere... Even if it's in October, another city, or an online retailer. Update: {2025} I ended up calling a store in San Marcos next. They were amazing and I ended up buying several bikes from them over the next 5 years, whil sending all my friends from Austin to them. I was talked into going to Mellow Johnnies a few months back to get some supplies to help a friend with his bike. At least they maintained some consistency, their service was terrible.
