Pedro Pascal Vietnamese iced coffee with banana whipped cream

I had a great visit to Disco Death Records! They were part of my 'Sip Scouter' coffee passport book, and after my first visit I'll definitely be back again. I ordered the "Pedro Pascal" which was Vietnamese iced coffee with banana flavoring and whipped banana cream on top. It was delicious and perfect on a hot day. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the ambiance of the space is pretty neat. It is fairly large inside with a whole collection of records for sale to peruse.

I knew this would be a solid spot. We were coming to town to work remote for a week, and I was looking around the twin cities for a spot that had it all. I settled on South Minneapolis. I grew up in East St. Paul so I knew the area as kinda cool with a good movie theater and nice vibes. When I searched the area I saw it had great bar, excellent restaurants, and a few good vinyl stores too. And then there was the quirky Disco Death. Well, I got a house 3 blocks from Disco. The 1st time I walked down to the shop was a little exciting. I hadn't been to a coffee shop with records. I was happy and a little relieved when i walked in and great tunes were playing and a good handful of people were on laptops or going through records to buy. There isn't a lot of records, but they had a decent jazz section. I found a Coltrane that was worth a by, and the got a coffee to go. I stopped back another day and had a great experience with java and vinyl again. Next time I'm in town, I look forward to stopping back.

This is a super cute spot! The staff were so nice and helpful. I ordered the "ur gonna wanna chai it" drink with almond milk and it was great! They don't have a lot of food options but that's okay. I got a record while I was there and it was not crazy expensive. I love the plants everywhere and the atmosphere.

Matcha.com ($7). Photo does NOT do it justice, this was SO delicious!

After driving past Disco Death multiple times a week all year, I finally stopped in and I'm obsessed! I went to do some work from home, and it was a great space; accessible outlets and comfy seating, and it was so cool to be able to browse some vinyl when I wanted a break! I was really impressed with how big their selection was--in addition to LPs, they had 7"s and cassettes too. The barista who was working when I was there was also amazing--I didn't catch their name, but they were so fun to talk to and gave me a great drink recommendation. I got the Matcha.com ($7) (just now realizing that's a play on Match.com as I type it out haha) with oat milk, which was matcha, milk, and coco lopez (which is a cream of coconut that's apparently usually used in piña coladas?). It was one of my favorite drinks I've had all year--I feel like I'd never truly had a quality matcha before this since I'm usually a coffee drinker, but this is the drink that put me onto matcha. Will 100% back here sooner rather than later!

Good spot to read, study, or chat with a few friends. Part of the combined coffee/music store variation of coffee shops (Caydence in St Paul is similar). The space isn't big, with seating for maybe 20ish tops, but pleasant modern cool with concrete floors, white walls, and lots of wood. The speciality drinks are quite good. I tried several over my visits but kept coming back to the Prince of Darkness (cold), the use of raspberry honey syrup gives the chocolate a kick of flavor without being overly sweet. The music has varied on my visits, but mostly been great and nice background for whatever else I'm up to. Recommended.

Surprisingly diverse record selection considering the smaller size of the store. A better selection of punk records, especially 45s, compared to most. A large portion of the records appear to be new so the prices tend to be in the $30s-$40s. Plenty of records I would have bought had they not been brand new. Haven't tried the coffee selections but based on the crowd on a Saturday I'm guessing they're quite good. Parking is very limited since it's street only and this is near the heart of Uptown.

Great spot for coffee and records! A delightful assortment of options on both fronts. Offering records for every taste and unique coffees options to meet all palates. I was both pleased and surprised to see Vietnamese coffee on the menu, not a common option in the cities. Not only is the coffee well made, but a perfect chill vibe to match. Make sure to turn off Lyndale and visit this wonderful spot!

This is still such a wonderful place with a great selection of music and so many cool retail items at a great value. Expertly curated and displayed. Still, my most favorite record store I've ever been to anywhere! Moved to California 30+ years ago and every time I'm in town I gotta take a peek and do that whole nostalgia trip in my head-if only the walls could talk, OH MY! I love the creaking floors as you walk across the showroom remembering those sounds heard in the basement packing my own orders to ensure in stock items were shipped. The cast of characters that visited and cool musicians- one day Devo came popping through handing out 3-D buttons with those flower pot looking things on their heads and strange jumpsuits. "It's not too late To whip it Into shape Shape it up Get straight Go forward Move ahead" my daughter wore my old jacket from 1979 (in picture) . The nice staff were very friendly and enamored with the jacket and the manager took some pictures which gave my daughter a huge tickle. I think the cat's name is Bob Fuchs and he's been there since the late '80s and a good ambassador of the brand and so kind to indulge us. This is a must visit if you're ever in Minneapolis set aside some time it's worth every minute!

Thanks for the horrific insults because of your mistake... and thanks for the lovely curse. Please don't stalk and harass me at 1am because your mad your employee made a mistake. You had no reason to make the accusations and insults you did other than your own fears and insecurities as you're up late at night thinking and obsessing over me. This is not acceptable behavior on so many levels. I can't believe I have to say this to an adult. Every action has a consequence. Had I checked my filtered messages sooner perhaps we could have avoided this childish outburst and I wouldn't have known this side of you. Perhaps you have an amazing business but unfortunately I'll now have to warn people about you. It's not a good business or life practice to make assumptions about people, especially such negative ones, because your assessment could be incredibly incorrect. You don't know who a stranger is and who they might know, better to assume the best and always treat everyone with respect. You're definitely doing a great job of being authentic to the world about who you truly are, perhaps you should spend some of your sleepless nights focusing inwards instead.

Decent selection but not as good as Electric Fetus…read more Cheapo Records is a music store with lots of CDs, Vinyls, and other music related records. Personally, not my favorite but there's some good movie records at a decent rate. The interior is large so there's a ton to choose from, but personally it is more on the older side in terms of what they have in stock. Maybe not the best for someone who likes electronic music but definitely more so for a pop or rap type enjoyer. Prices are what you'd expect for a record store. Nothing that screams great value (except for the classical vinyls that everyone has) or the occasional CDs but none that stood out to me. Overall, they were friendly when checking out. 4 stars is appropriate for this place.

I dropped by this store the next day after work. I love a good music store, especially if it has used CDs, cassettes, and records. When I lived in Rochester, I would head over to Dinkytown mainly because it had a huge Cheapo Discs store. I could easily spend an hour or two looking at the selection of CDs that were available. I'd often find gems there. The Dinkytown location closed probably over a decade ago. I was sad. Sad, no more. It lives here in uptown Minneapolis, one of three Cheapo locations that remain in the Twin Cities. It has changed names and is now Cheapo Records. Its online site still uses discs in its URL. This location has a tiny parking lot. I got there at probably 4:30 pm. I had no problem finding a parking spot. Parking is free. I pulled into one and entered the store. I was in heaven! The selection is awesome. If I wasn't flying home, I'd get records. I didn't want to take a chance getting them damaged, so I went with CDs, which is my default. It is one of my favourite stores now. I added to my Pet Shop Boys (PSB) collection with special edition CDs that I did not previously own. The Release album had a metallic blue sleeve and was remastered. I picked that one up. One of my favourite PSB CD covers is Very. It's bright orange and tactile. It was at this store. If I didn't own it, I would have snatched it. I often can find CDs that I don't own, but they end up completing my collection. Erasure singles are a perfect example. I enjoy looking at some of my favourite Canadian artists to see if I can find any special US releases. Jann Arden is a good example. I tend to own every CD by her, which was the case here. However, there was a Nelly Furtado single on CD that I picked for the ridiculous price of $0.99. I bought eleven CDs, with one being a two-CD set. I feel like this place needs to have baskets for folks like me as I shop. I did spend over an hour at this store. It was comfortable and enjoyable. You can also find record and CD players, t-shirts, accessories, and more. It's all great. I headed up to the front to pay for my items. My items came up to $55 after tax. That's not shabby considering that a new record costs $30 these days and that's on the cheaper side of the cost spectrum. I paid with a credit card. Done! The nice man helping me at the counter placed all my CDs in a bag. I thanked him and headed out with my music gems. I love this store so much. I may need to visit the other two Cheapo locations when I return to the Twin Cities. Otherwise, I'll be back visiting this one because it's awesome. If you love music, you must come here. I highly recommend it. (98)
