My sister recommended Dr. Rao to me after I told her I'd maxed out my insurance benefits following the advice of another dentist, which had only resulted in constant problems and pain in one of my molars. I called his office to make an appointment to get the tooth extracted and they were able to get me in that same day. Priscilla, who I spoke to on the phone, was so wonderful and understanding. She basically had to talk me off a ledge because I was terrified at just the IDEA of having a tooth pulled. I can't even watch scenes in movies where someone has a tooth pulled out! When I arrived for my appointment, she remembered me from our phone conversation and went out of her way to reassure me and put me at ease. The same was true of Dr. Rao and the dental assistant (whose name I unfortunately don't remember because I was too busy being a big baby about everything.) Dr. Rao took the time to find out what my situation was, to make sure I was as comfortable as possible, and to explain everything that was happening. For all the fear and anxiety I had going in, I STILL can't believe how smooth and pain-free the extraction was. I closed my eyes and when Dr. Rao said the tooth was out I didn't believe him! Because I didn't feel it come out and I thought there was no way it could all be over that quickly. Dr. Rao is the Tooth Whisperer! Not only that, but he's honest and his prices are more than fair. I can't recommend him enough, especially if you're in a situation where you feel like a previous dentist may be pressuring you into expensive, possibly unnecessary procedures without even making the time to really listen and figure out what's best for you. Dealt with tooth pain all weekend and went here because they excepted walk in's. The staff was friendly and only waited for 15 minutes before being seen. Dr. Rao was amazing and very down to earth. After many years of never being able to trust a dentist, I now do. So many out there want to charge thousands for unneeded treatments. I never felt this about discount dental. I've been going to Dr. Rao for a few years now. The first time I went there, it was after visiting several other dentists who all refused to pull two wisdom teeth that had broken; and they all referred me to a dental surgeon. My problem was a familiar one for so many people: I only had a few hundred dollars with no insurance and I was in extreme pain. When I arrived there, I told Prescilla, the dental assistant who was also working the reception desk, that I was turned away by several dentists thoughout the day. At that point, she told me to open my mouth; she looked at my teeth and to my utter relief - she said: "Oh, we can get those out." Ever since then, I've had extensive work done by Dr. Rao, who is the most friendly, outgoing, and caring health professional you will ever meet! He is also the best dentist that I've ever had the unique pleasure of visiting!!! The prices are extremely reasonable; which is certainly indicative of Dr. Rao's love for others!!! The building is quite small and humble looking; but perhaps that is one of the reasons that allows Dr. Rao to keep his rates so low! His staff: Priscilla, and Raquel are also top notch and lovely!!! I had an appointment for teeth cleaning. Dr Rao did the cleaning himself which was quick. He's nice, talkative and to the point, he doesn't try to sell you all the bells and whistles. I knocked a star off cause even with an appointment at 10am, I waited 28 minutes more before being called in. Also didn't get a respond to my email. read more

I have a confession. I am not scared of controversy, ugly exchanges, confrontation, or death, but I am scared of the dentist due to a torture session I endured at another dentist about six years ago. Two days ago a pain in my mouth started that had me wondering whether I should strike my mouth repeatedly with a hammer to try and dislodge the remnants of the broken tooth that was the source of my misery. Then I met Dr. Rao. He didn't judge, his friendly smile, honesty, and competence made the extraction process painless, and I was out of the chair within twenty minutes. I don't currently have insurance and with x-rays and a complicated extraction (since half the tooth was missing) it cost me less than $235.00, a discount rate if every I saw one. If you're scared of the dentist too, give Dr. Rao a try, the outside of his office doesn't look like much but it's all love once you walk through that door. read more

Dr. Rao and his crew at Discount Dental are in a league of their own! I never imagined an emergency dentist appointment being exceptional. Hands down, the greatest Dentist in Phoenix. I'm notorious for making decisions based on Yelp, but rarely write them for otbers. Today, I'll start. After a very bad year that included a job loss, my son Jacob waking up with a toothache was far from ideal. Admittedly, I'm rarely dazzled by customer service, providers in particular. Going in blind, other than a few Yelp reviews could have proven disastrous. We weren't able to arrive within the "walk-in" window, but they were incredibly compassionate and saw him anyway. Jacob has Aspergers syndrome and I've had my fair share of run-ins with ignorant people. He's an incredibly kind and intuitive guy. He "feels" when others are displeased. I'm the same way, but his radar serves us well. While no one is a big fan of a dental appointment, Jacob smiled throughout. I didn't want to push my luck further, but pled for mercy on cost. I explained his well-being is primary and that I'd figure it out if needed, but extraction would only be a last resort. Sadly, I think most provider's would ensure my bill was indicative of a greenight. Dr. Rao didn't bat an eye. Don't let the building fool you, his office is pristine and surpassed my standards! The initial goal was to alleviate pain, but Dr. Rao at Discount Dental will be our new dentist. His fair prices are a plus, but his ethics are extraordinary patient care are worthy of the drive. Between new patient paperwork (minimal), exam (no x-ray = less $$) and consult, we were out in 45 minutes, prescriptions in hand. I paid a grand total of $40. Subsequent treatment may be needed, but his infection and pain wont ruin our weekend. Dr. Rao and his front desk girls are FABULOUS! I'm not terribly We haven't left his parking lot for fear of forgeting to give credit where credits due! We haven't left his parking lot as I don't want to forget to give credit where credits due! I had excruciating pain for days on my bottom right tooth, come to find out I needed to get it completely extracted. I was expecting for the doctor to beat around the bush & try & upsell me, nope! He gave me my options but told me exactly what I needed to pay & it was just that. I've NEVER liked going to the dentist bc frankly it's just scary to me, not here. I was in & out in less than an hour. Immediately as procedure began my anxiety started to kick into high gear, but Dr.Tony was right there to literally walk me through everything he was doing before he even did it. I LOVE DR. RAO I have been to sooooo many dentist since i was young n always had really bad uncomfortable experiences. I honestly will never ever let anyone else touch my teeth except him again. He makes you feel comfortable he tells you the truth and does whatever he can to get you out of pain n your teeth and mouth healthy!! He's a fun guy to be around n he sees tons of patients but still seems to remember lil things like where you work n convos you had last time you were there GO SEE HIM AND HIS STAFF ARE EXCELLENT AS WELL !!! even when I missed my appointment they still go me in quickly and out fast! Quick, cheap and right to the point. I walked in at 10:15AM in severe pain and was gone by 11AM with an extracted tooth, prescriptions and no pain. Dr. Rao did the work and was quite understanding. He managed to pull a damaged tooth in a single piece and was very considerate of any possible pain. Go here if you have a worry about dentists being inconsiderate jerks or overcharging if you don't have insurance, because you will get none of that here. Also, they take Care Credit. read more
