I actually did my externship here while in college (I had gone for Dental Assisting but in the end, it just wasn't for me) with Dr. Joe Osdieck, who ended up becoming my personal dentist as well. His chairside manner is amazing! He is also a great guy personally...so imagine my shock and sadness when he broke the news to me he was moving to Tucson to do his pediatric residency for 3 years! Along came his friend, Dr. Cameron Blythe, who was just as good a dentist. Enjoyed having him for my dentist as well. He did my gold crown and also set me up with prescription sensitive toothpaste since i have such sensitive teeth.I really like how he takes time with each patient to fully answer questions, check out their teeth, and just spread sunshine to a patient's day. The dental service was fine, but the billing experience is terrible. I had a long list of work that needed to be done. I knew my insurance provider was changing so I called in December to schedule the work. The Practice Manager, Dina Guevara, told me that since it had been 3 months and since I had a cleaning scheduled in January, I should wait to be re-evaluated. When January came around, I submitted my new insurance provider only to find they didn't accept that carrier. I had an opportunity to switch to a PPO in March, which they did accept, and I asked if she could tell me how much my out-of-pocket expense would be based on the new insurance provider. Dina simply refused. She told if I came in for a re-evaluation she could tell me the same day but couldnt tell me through email. I explained that I was simply trying to determine if the price went up, down or stayed the same. I also understood the price could go up if more work had to be done. I was just trying to determine if I could financially afford to schedule the work or not. I was trying to save time and not waste others time. She absolutely refused and said I had to come in again before I could get that information. So she wants me to believe that she can calculate the cost in the time it takes me to walk from the chair to the front desk but it is impossible to calculate the cost 1 week prior? Doing it her way is why there has been a 4 month delay. Dina is the reason the work wasnt done in December and the reason why I chose to take my business to another dentist. I like the staff here a lot. The current dental assistants are excellent, friendly and knowledgable. But, they might change in a couple months! The current hygienist, Janice, is nice and funny with a dry sense of humor. The problem with this place is they rotate out docs so much. It's kind of like the jumping off point for new dentists. I have gone here since 2008 and have been treated by over five dentists. I preferred Dr. Joe and Dr. Sampang, but they are long gone. After Sampang, this other guy was there briefly and made a big deal about stating how long he'd be in office, yet at my next cleaning, a new doc, Dr. Land, was already in office. I liked Sampang for his humor, knowledge, and bedside manner. The front desk staff are always friendly and accommodating. There have been times where I've had to stand for over 10 minutes, because people brought extra individuals with them to the appointment, and the waiting room had zero seating spaces. read more

I started out here with some Indian guy. I can't remember his name and he was ok. I'm pretty phobic of the dentist and he made me cry. literally. Went back yesterday for a cleaning and some real work. Dr. Joe transferred to the Chandler office from another location. He ROCKS! He's young, hot, and he *sang* to me when the work was going on forever. I decided to switch to Sunwest Dental this year after having a horrible experience at another dentist. The past dentist I went to had a very upscale office and brand new, advanced equipment. However, I learned after I had spent too much money and was in too much pain, that they had just swindled me. Sunwest Dental does not have the latest equipment (actually looks like its from the 90s) or the most updated office, but they use what works and don't spend their money trying to impress and scam clients. I absolutely hate going to the dentist but after 3 years with no exam I decided it was time. Sweating bullets while filling out my paper work everyone was incredibly welcoming. I had almost no wait and was brought right back to be setup for an exam and X-rays. The hygienist Juan was funny, comforting, and patient. It was very clear he knew what he was doing, fast but not rushed. Dr. Sloan is incredibly professional and kind. I didn't feel judged or lectured for having waited so long to see the dentist - he slowly walked me through the issues I had - making sure I understood everything and all of my options. I needed a good amount of work done and Dr. Sloan helped me understand what I should prioritize in getting done since there was no way I could afford everything all at once. He was incredibly understanding and took plenty of time to help me understand what I needed done, when, and why and gave me lots of options. Couldn't have asked for a more competent or compassionate dentist! Also - I needed a chipped tooth fixed - which I was very nervous about because I have heard horror stories about the color not matching or the composite being thick but I can't tell the difference between the repair and the actual tooth - it looks so good! read more

I'm terrified of going to the dentist and I panic every time I have a dental appointment. Knowing that, the folks at sunwest treat me with patience and care. They take the time to make sure I'm fully covered with anesthesia so I don't feel anything and then they also have laughing gas. Yafumi is the patient whisperer who is amazing and funny and extremely competent. I'm so happy she is there to help me through the procedure. Dr. Sloan is an excellent doctor with amazing bed side manners. He makes sure that you know you're in control and will stop whenever you need. He will take his time with you to make sure you are thoroughly numbed before getting started. The only issue is that they may occasionally run a little behind because they take such great care of their patients. To me, it's worth it. read more

I would never recommend this office: poor workmanship and rude, offensive professional staff. Also not following guidelines for pandemic precautions: not wearing masks until asked to. I had stopped going to this dentist after last service, about 1 1/2 yrs ago, but as l had a problem with a crown they placed, I returned. I had stopped going there because they frequently changed entire staff, including office mngr and staff, hygienists and dentists. They changed ALL at the same time. This return trip, again, had completely different staff. The current dentist, Dr Burk, was rude, impatient with questions, and very condescending. He actually patted me on the cheek and told me to be quiet! I'm a 68 yr old woman and I found that very inappropriate and outright offensive. I returned as the crown they placed had fallen off. They replaced it with temporary crown, at a high cost, altho after I complained, they gave me a small discount. That temporary replacement then came off within 3 days, and they replaced that with a temporary that came off overnight! I am currently awaiting the permanent crown and only hope it is permanent. The front office was incompetent. They cannot tell you what the charges are and then just expect you to pay them. I asked for a breakdown of the billing on 4 different occasions and never received a clear answer. I asked them to call me and they ignore it. Just got a bill. I have Humana insurance. Sunwest has agreed on a contracted amount for services with Humana, yet they bill you whatever they see fit and you will be responsible for the difference. When you go into their office make sure you understand what their agreement is with your insurance company and make sure they tell you what they are billing you for; because they will not (or cannot) tell you. It is a mystery until you get the bill. The dental service was fine, but the billing experience was terrible. I am being asked to pay much more than expected. VERY DISAPPOINTING. read more

I wanted to wait until I saw another dentist to write this review. I went here for the 1st time 5 months ago to get a cleaning. I picked this dentist from the list of dentists on my insurance. When Dr. Burke came in, the first thing he said to me was, "What do you think about your front teeth, do you like them?" (I do not have bad front teeth at all.) I should have known then that this was not going to be a good experience. He then tells me that I need 10 crowns, yes, 10 crowns! Previously I have been going to the same dentist every 6 months, and have never been told I needed any crowns. He rushed me into making a decision, and said he could do 2 of them that day, which I did, and I am now regretting that decision. After receiving the EOB from my insurance, I find that they have overcharged me $270. So I call to try and get it resolved, and had to get my insurance to call and dispute the charge. I decided to go to a different dentist, and not come back. Yesterday was my appointment with the new dentist, and guess what, they said I don't need ANY crowns, that I have no cavities, and my teeth are great. I am leaving this review so others don't make the mistake I did. Steer clear of Dr. Burke if you value your teeth. I wish I had just walked out. I feel like I was scammed out of my money, thankfully, I realized something was not right. read more

Being traumatized by my previous dentist, I was cautious in looking for a new office, but was recommended to this office by a good friend so I gave it a shot. Everyone in this office was extremely pleasant to work with. You can tell they really care about their patients, and make sure you are comfortable throughout your entire visit. From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left, the ladies up front were extremely nice and cheerful making it quick and easy to get all my paperwork taken care of , and made sure I was seen right away. I had a basic standard cleaning and the hygienist was nice, knowledgeable, and efficient. Selena then helped me by explaining my next steps until my next appointment. She set me up to be seen with Dr. and stayed with me throughout the exam and made sure I understood everything. She was so amazing. My former dentists merged their practice with Sun West about 5 months ago and the experience has been very poor since then. Each of my 3 visits in that time has had some form of a "fail" in my opinion--mostly from the front-office staff. And that's too many fails for me. I'll be finding a new dentist. This is probably TMI, but I feel like giving the details might help people decide if this the right place for them (and maybe help SunWest fix some personnel and process issues): On the first visit, after my hour-long cleaning & check-up, the office manager assumed that I wanted to extend the visit with filling a cavity they just found and proceeded to get me to fill out the necessary forms while I was still in the dental chair. There was no introduction like "since you need a filling, we can do that today or book for another time since you probably didn't plan for this in your schedule." She assumed that I was going to do it then and there. I hadn't planned for the extra time so I had to quickly intercept and make it clear I couldn't do the filling right then and she seemed a bit miffed that I wouldn't do it right then. I'm not sure if this is standard practice with this office--to assume fillings should be done in the same visit as the check-up--but the previous office had never done this and it felt like a grab for money vs. really making sure me and my schedule were being taken care of. On the second visit (for the filling), as they were about to get me prepped for the local anesthetic, the technician made some mention of a second filling they were going to work on that day. This was news to me. We had only discussed one filling on the previous visit. And as I asked some more questions to understand what was going to happen, I realized that the second filling was a cosmetic filling to "fix" a chip on my front tooth--not a cavity. This was something that we had never discussed before and something I had no care to fix as it's not very noticeable and wasn't a concern for cavities from any previous dentist I had met with. I had to get a bit brusque with the technician to make it clear that I hadn't been informed of this second filling and that I didn't want to take the time or money to do a purely cosmetic procedure. Once she pulled the dentist in to discuss, he was very apologetic and understanding and moved right along to the single cavity filling that I had originally come in for. (So that was a good part in the experience!) On the third visit, there was a mixup between me and the front office regarding rescheduling my cleaning. They had called the day before to try to reschedule due to some conflict on their end but I was slammed at work and unable to call back. The voicemail they left was ambiguous and I made the mistake of assuming they were just calling to confirm I was still coming (as normally usually do). I showed up at the originally scheduled time but no front-office staff were there and had to wait for the office manager to arrive. When she did, she was very rude, putting all the blame on me for not having called back so I could have known the appointment needed to be rescheduled. I wasn't in a great mood at this point (from having to wait and her initial attitude) so I wasn't inclined to take the blame. I stated that I had received the voicemail but there was no indication in it that I needed to reschedule. She (very curtly) said HIPA laws disallowed them from saying that on the VM. I guess that makes sense, but the tone was not necessary. I then simply asked if I could still do the cleaning then or would need to reschedule. She was able to get me in (so that was cool) but still had some attitude in the process. The doctor's are fine here, though you'll likely not see the same one's very often. They rotate a lot. But I find that typical of a lot of dental offices these days. One huge plus for SunWest: Juan (one of the dental hygienists) is awesome. He does a great job with cleanings AND he's super friendly. If it weren't for him, I would have found a new dentist already. Overall, I think if SunWest could get some friendly, customer-minded front-office staff, they would be in a much better position and would not lose my business. But at this point, it's too little too late. Best of luck, guys. read more

I have been coming here for over 5 years. It wasn't always the best, and I've seen a few different dentists here, but there have been lots of changes since last year!!! An upgraded office, new equipment, appointment confirmations by text, the staff is so friendly- it was just a great experience and now i really like this office. I always need a lot if dental work. I absolutely loved Dr. Land- i got 2 crowns and 3 fillings over the past month with no problems what so ever. I would highly recommend him, he's a really great dentist and to me thats the part that counts when someone is working on your teeth. The entire staff is so friendly and i will continue to go there. Dental assistants were professional and good at what they do, always asking if they are hurting you or if you need anything. Dental hygienist had my teeth cleaned in no time- gentle and very nice. Bought a groupon for teeth cleaning. Called to make my appt and got a lot of attitude from the front desk. Apparently she only knew about an earlier groupon. They wanted X-rays but said if I got my old ones from my dentist I wouldn't have to be xrayed. Wasted my first appt running for X-rays as the 5 minutes I used up trying to get the number for Las Tiendas Dental ate in to the appt time. They had no intention of cleaning my teeth and make you keep coming back. Rediculous waste of time and a lot of attitude I don't need. Came back with the X-rays for a second appt. They said they weren't clear enough and still would not clean my teeth which was all I wanted in the first place. Got my money back for the groupon. I wouldn't go there if it was free. Went there after not going to the dentist for about two years. The Dentist and staff were so friendly and helpful. I have a phobia about getting my teeth cleaned but they really put my fears at ease. Did not have to wait a long time, prompt appointment time. Will be back to get my regular cleanings and will tell my family and friends to go there too! The office staff is nice, however unhelpful. It took forever to get our cleanings scheduled, the first time my daughter and I show up for our cleanings, and they had been cancelled because the hygienist was not in and we never received a call. One afternoon off of work wasted. We re-scheduled and that appointment as well had to be cancelled. It took 2 months to get a new cleaning scheduled. We have some dental work to get done and that took forever to get an appointment that they could actually keep. We had to have my daughters fillings corrected by another dentist. My filing has been hurting since July, something is wrong with it as well. I have been over charged for our work and have been fighting since July to get my refund. I will never go back here, it was a horrible experience. Too may other qualified dentists in the valley for anybody to put up with this. read more

My family has been going here for years and we finally had to pull the plug on this place. Its a new dentist every time we go in, each one says my husband needs different work done on his teeth. If you are like my husband who is leery of dentists, I do not recommend this place. He needs someone to establish trust with and it cant be done with the turnover. My husband seemed to have liked the service from the dental staff but there has been a mix up with insurance and I feel like they should be more aware of patients needs regarding what is covered and what is not. *Update* Wendy claimed that I would be receiving an email from her shortly after our conversation and I have never received an email. I have also been in contact with insurance and they were quick to inform me that my husband should have been informed from the office that his procedure may not be covered. I am still in shock as to the seriously unprofessional people who work here!!! The Office Mgr. told me today that she had 20 years in the biz & was who had set my initial appt. a few weeks ago...that was TOTALLY screwed up! (I didn't know whom had set the appt. till today.) I had lost a crown in the lower back of my mouth, & my mouth was quickly shifting out of alignment. I stressed the importance of being seen as soon as possible for a temporary crown so the misalignment didn't get worse. She booked me a week out! I can understand if that couldn't be helped, but... When I got to the initial appt., I was told that the person who had booked the appt. did so for a mini appt...very basic X-rays & a mini exam...NOT WHAT I REQUESTED NOR STRESSED THAT I NEEDED! (Had she told me she was doing that, I would have made an appt. elsewhere!) So, I could not get a temporary crown! Then, they have a completely incompetent person at the front desk that gave me an appt. card for my next appt. and put the WRONG DATE on it!! I had to call to verify! I came back for that appt. & booked the next for which the same incompetent gave me a card for the next appt. with the WRONG TIME on it!! I had to waste my time again to call to find out about that one too!!! That brings us to today...I showed up for my double appt., one hour for a cleaning and one hour for some fillings. The very rude, & most unprofessional, Office Mgr. said there had been yet another screw up, & I wasn't scheduled until next week! That's 4 out of 4 appts.!!!!!!! (She also said they had to keep the incompetent front desk person as she was their 4th one!!! With so many people looking for work, that sounds like incompetence on the Office Mgr.'s part to me!!!) I was obviously not happy about this final screw up, so she said that since I had been unhappy with every appt., that perhaps I should find another dentist!! What? You screw up 4 appts., I don't appreciate it, and therefore, I'm the bad guy??? Guess I'm far too naive to expect professionalism at a dental office these days! I only gave 1 Star because the dentist did a good job on my permanent crown...at least, so far...and you can't leave zero stars! read more
