This days journey takes me to the states capital, I'm looking for a computer for the house nothing to technical just something reliable. I was told to look at "Discount Electronics". Well I wasn't disappointed, they showed me some all in ones then they showed me some laptops. With each showing they described what speed and what capacity it carries on the ones displayed to me. The person at the store was the utmost helpful in explaining the differences. But if you are in the market for a computer or accessories this place is a good start. If you're a gamer they have you covered, well at least in my opinion. I chose a HP laptop and it runs extremely well and at a great value for the type of laptop I got. read more

I am disabled and the staff never offered me a place to sit down and I had to specifically request help in carrying my purchase out to my car. They acted like I was just another regular customer. Also, I took my purchase back to my office and my tech assistant told me it was the wrong devise, so I returned it to their store within 24 hours and all I got was store credit. Now in all fairness, that policy IS stated on their ticket, BUT nobody calls your attention to it...and 24 hours..good grief!! At this point, I would NEVER do business with them again and here I am stuck with store credit for $530.00 that I have absolutely NO use for. All I can say is: Be sure whatever you buy IS exactly what you want, or you'll be stuck like I am!! read more

I bought a laptop at the Austin store near Parmer and Mopac. They had friendly staff and no-pressure salespeople. They were patient with me and I didn't feel rushed. Brian was very knowledgeable and experienced, and helped me understand what I was even looking for in a laptop. I got a nice business class HP laptop with 500GB SDD and 11th generation i5 chip for a great price. It was really helpful to have a large selection of laptops with different features, with most prices between $100 and $1000, so I could compare and consider what I actually needed. I have been a loyal customer from the beginning. I have purchased more than 10 computers from Discount Electronics over the last 25-30 years. I have been totally happy with the purchases and support. Recently, I took one of those computers into this store to have my hard drives pulled and to have those installed into a new computer that I was planning to purchase right then. NO GO. They are pushing customers away saying they are not technicians and know nothing about computers other than sales points. I was going to buy a computer anyway and then they referred me to another shop to pull the drives and rig them to go into the new computer. The value of Discount Electronics has EVAPORATED! Never ever again to waste my time. By the way, I checked on AMAZON when I got home and I can purchase the same computer for less than half of what I was going to pay DE! Terrible Customer Service....just terrible service Ordered two monitors and was told the HDMI cables came with the order. But I needed longer cables, spoke with they guy that took my order and decided I was going to buy them at the pick up store. I got there and the two guys working the front desk were adamant that no HDMI cables came with monitors and they would be extra. Not to mention the monitors do not come boxed. I then drive back home after getting HDMI cables at Best Buy (much better choice), only to find out once I got the monitors home that the cable slots on the monitors are display cables not HDMI. But this experience only cost me $220 and an hour or so of frustration. Never again support the local when Best Buy has way better customer service. So back to BB to exchange the cables....Thanks for wasting so much of my time. read more

I purchased a laptop from discount electronics four days ago, i was hoping it would be good however, from the moment I turned it on, it was clear that something was wrong. It kept freezing, crashing, and the battery life was abysmal. Despite my efforts to troubleshoot, the issues persisted. When I reached out to customer service for help, I was met with nothing but frustration. The representatives were unhelpful and seemed disinterested in resolving my problem. After numerous calls and emails, I was told that there was nothing they could do and that I was stuck with a faulty laptop. Not only is the product itself unreliable, but the lack of support from the company has left me incredibly disappointed. What a great experience! My computer wouldn't turn on and I feared it might the motherboard or the power supply might be kaput. As I've always had great experiences with Discount Electronics, I brought it in for them to look at. I figured I'd have to leave it there, but Tim Garza took a look at my desktop and discovered the video card wasn't seated correctly. He seated it correctly and it started just fine! What a relief! After that he asked if there were any more issues. We briefly discussed upgrading TPM and then we were done. In and out in less than 20 minutes. What great customer service! Needed a new laptop in a hurry, but didn't see why a refurbished one wouldn't be sufficient, so I headed down to Discount Electronics on Parmer. I'm not a computer girl, but did a bit of research online before heading in. Matt, the associate that was working at the time, was incredibly patient with me and all the questions I had, and was really knowledgeable and helpful. Go see Diana for all your computer questions! She is friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable. She was so patient and answered all my questions on a new laptop. I had searched on their website before I went so I had a good idea of the type of computers/laptops they had, but being able to talk about the options with Diana made it so much easier. She even showed us some of the ones they had in store so I can got to get a better idea of the size and weight. I wanted something that was easy to carry, but powerful enough to do all my work (I needed something with at least 16GB RAM). She listened to my criteria and was able to get help me narrow down my options. I truly felt she genuinely cared and listened to what I wanted in a laptop. I ended purchasing a Microsoft Surface Laptop. My laptop is going to deliver to the store in a few days from the warehouse and I can't wait! As mentioned in previous reviews, there's a different feel to this store vs the old ones on Anderson, Round Rock, or Cedar park. Used to be a spot where you could get refurb and used computers purchased en masse from the various business IT churn in the area. And it still fills that niche a bit. But this place is less "Computer store from the 90's that has naturally progressed to now" a vibe and more "We kinda like the Apple store." Which is a matter of aesthetic taste I guess... Stopped by to try and grab some budget rigs they had advertised on their site, was informed those were online only. So I opted for the cheapest desktop they had, at 99.00 USD. A bit pricier, but it came with Windows 10 and a Warranty, so it was a good enough price for what it was. They even waited to see if it was booting up and running before I left. They were quite insistent of it before I said I was just going to throw linux on it. So the staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Prices are reasonable. I would just call ahead if you were wanting something specific to see if they have it at that location. read more

Beware....I have a 78 year old friend who ordered one of their refurbished computers. The computer will not recognize the monitor. My friend brought the computer to my house. I contacted the company about the problem that we were having, and they said that it appears that the video card must have come loose during shipment so their recommendation was to ship back to them or open the computer and try to fix it ourselves. Because the invoice date shipped was May 7, 2024 and the day I called was May 24, 2024 that he must pay to ship the computer back to them because they only have a 14 day return policy where they pay the postage which would have been on the 21st of May. For them even though they said it probably happened in shipping the 14 day policy is written in stone !!!!!! My friend missed this window by 2-3 days...... If you are looking for a company that stands behind their products then stay away form these people. read more

They're OK. I got a nice deal on a pre-owned laptop which was badly needed. They don't do *any* kind of meaningful Mac repairs and the agent I had a typical Austinite "Couldn't be Bothered" type of customer service attitude. I even had to take a phone call for work and asked if he could hold onto my dead Mac while I was doing so as collateral for the new Lenovo and remarked how they're not responsible for anything like that. He also got pissy that I potentially wanted to use my Mac as a trade in. Geez, it's just a Mac man, grow up a little. At the end of the day, they sold me a laptop at a good price. After I got off that call, he went to lunch so I didn't have to deal with that type of smugness upon checkout. read more

Placed an online order for a package which, supposedly, consisted of PC, mouse, keyboard, and 22 inch monitor. A few days later, UPS delivered the PC. Spent over 40 minutes waiting on phone to talk with someone about rest of order. Finally gave up and emailed them. Next day, got reply. 'Sorry. Rest of package on it's way.'. A few more days, and UPS shows up with skinny box containing a keyboard and mouse. No sign of monitor. Called DE and managed to get through. 'Oh! They didn't ship the monitor! I will do that now...' Fast forward another few days. No answer on phone (unending hold music), so emailed them. Reply came a few hours later. 'It is being delivered today by USPS...by 9 PM.' Nope. No deliveries arrived. Today, USPS says shipment was 'delayed' and offers no delivery date. We are in week 3 since order was placed and paid for. Beware. Customer service at Discount Electronics appears to be haphazard, at best. read more

The always blame their clients when they are the ones stealing money from customers. Just check the amount of complaints on the Better Business Bureau.
