He asked me what I had been quoted and then said lI think I'm going to save you some money. He peeled of the glass protective cover. the screen wasn't broken, it was the protective cover! Longhorn Mac Repair was professional, pleasant, and patient at every turn. My very old iphone was breaking down. I called Longhorn to see if they sold refurbished iphones. I asked and they told me: 1) the models and prices they had available and 2) how long data transfer from old to new phone would take, so I had an idea how long I would need to be there. When I went to store I asked about different options. - They quoted me a reasonable price to repair my old phone; gave me some perspective on possibly buying a new phone from Verizon; and showed me their refurbished phones. I bought a refurbished phone and a case for a reasonable price. They put on the case for me and when I didn't love it they politely exchanged it for a different case. It was very affordable, much cheaper than anywhere else in Central Texas. He also looked at my MacBook, since my keyboard was being quite quirky and not typing the correct letters. Amazing, when I called around to get quotes for a 2019 MacBook Pro screen repair another electronics repair shop recommended me to call this place. The work was done within 3 hours and it cost 550 including tax, and had a perfect quality replacement (refurbished as Apple no longer manufactures these screens) whereas I was quoted between 450-870 without tax at different places for screens of varying qualities. I just got my iPad Pro back from LMP for a screen repair. I chose them because they had good reviews and seemed very accommodating, and because the bad reviews seemed to come from unreasonable people. Issue: I'm not an lcd expert but my screen had some bad digitizing with discolored bands going across. Ive always kept it in a case, so this was unfortunate. Texas heat can be brutal to electronics and there was some expansion between the LCD and the chassis. For this model, the parts that make the screen are sealed together, so it tends to cost more. However I needed this device for school. I paid $189 + tax which came out to about $204 The Good I got my iPad back with a good screen replacement. I was assured the battery was in good condition (this was brought to my attention before I left it) as well as other diagnostics that were run, but I have no proof or report of this. The Bad On inspection there was a lot of scratching and scraping. I handed it back to Vanessa, who does intake. She assured it was just adhesive from the process that oozed out, and she did take it back to thoroughly clean cleanoff. I think they should have done this in the first place. -Further inspection revealed a dent/chip on the corner that wasn't there previously. Vanessa said it was necessary for the removal process and to correct any bending in the chassis/case. My only thought is this type of work should always be done with tools with rubberized or plastic tips. -The condition of the seal is more disappointing the more I look at it (pictures). There is a lot of space between the case and the new screen. - I was told I'd hear something or get a turn around in a couple days. I didn't hear anything for a week and a half. I believe they called twice at the end of that time but didn't leave any kind of message the first time. I asked if I would qualify for any discount. Vanessa said they only offer %5 to military. I'm just a civilian contractor. I would recommend based on work done and customer service, but I'm disappointed about attention to some details. I'm not hopeful I'd get the kind of work I'd be totally satisfied with anywhere but Apple, which sometimes has its own set of challenges as well as high cost. Also, I like it when someone offers a summary of everything involved or the challenges in whatever the job is rather than me having to ask about every little thing. Used these guys a few times in the past and they did great work. This last time I took my iPad in and they needed my passcode. Apparently this is standard operating procedure and since it was my kids iPad, I didn't think twice when asked for the passcode and I said "it doesn't have a passcode set up because it's my kid's." I dropped it off on Friday July 15th and was told it would be ready by Tuesday, the 19th. Well I picked it up and it worked great but when I checked the screen time, the photos had been accessed after 6pm on Friday when they are supposed to be closed. Meanwhile not a single other app was opened except the settings and camera for 1 minute and the camera for 15 seconds. Those two were opened in front of me when they originally turned my iPad on. He accidentally hit the camera and then went to the settings. I'm not sure why our personal photos needed to be accessed? My partner asked if I had maybe accessed them to which I replied "No, the iPad had been in my trunk for days and the battery was dead. In fact, they had to plug it up to verify that it did not have a passcode. We have had phones and our MacBook repaired here and this was the first time I thought to check the activity. I can only imagine what deeply personal things someone working here might have seen over all these years. I'm definitely going with a mobile service next time and I'll be damned if I give a passcode or login info out anymore and if it's my kid's then I'm putting a passcode on it. Beware of this place, humans are not always reliable and when you trust them, they can definitely betray your trust. ETA: The owner's explanation of it being "accidental" doesn't make sense as to my knowledge, they didn't start working on it till Tuesday. Saturday, Sunday, or Monday shows nothing was accessed but on Friday after closing hours, our photo album was accessed. Once I discovered that it was accessed, I brought up my recent apps and found the photo app wasn't there. So whoever accessed it, swiped the app from recents. Yesterday I brought up the fourth device I would have had repaired at Longhorn. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to find another repair place. COVID precautions: They allow two customers in at a time, but when I came in the receptionist was not wearing her mask. I commented "Oh! You're not wearing a mask!" And she said, "I am!" When I looked confused at this, she began searching for it and said "I am, it's here in my pocket." W h a t. Wait time: Usually I've had phones/laptops here for maybe two days total to diagnose and repair. The receptionist told me it would be 3-5 business days before a diagnostic could be done. I declined and left promptly and got a passive-aggressive thank you on my way out the door. I live in South Austin, but because their reviews were so great, decided it was worth the trek north to diagnose my 2012 MacBook Air. I worked with Jimmy & he tried to diagnose/fix before I even left, but it needed some deeper internal work. He called me back two days later to let me know the problem, and a few repair options. He was upfront on the cost & his opinion on viability of the repair without condescending to me. Since this is an "obsolete" model, Apple & other repair shops had told me it wasn't worth fixing, but Jimmy gave me some solid, reasonably priced options. Even though he mentioned they had refurbished models, at no point in our conversation did I feel "sold to" or looked down on because I want to keep this particular laptop.
