I wish i could give 0 stars. I dealt with Steve and Sandy. Steve comes out to quote and is very professional but then when it comes out to do the work they send very unprofessional installers. Charged nearly $2,000.00 to re-route the exhaust from my boiler. Ended up being basically the same as it was before except the exhaust motor they installed shakes my whole house. The old exhaust hole was patched up very poorly also, they didnt stagger the bricks they just put 4 bricks on top of eachother. Very poor quality of work and zero attention to detail. They did the work in May and kept telling me they were going to fix it, it has now been over 6 months since they originally installed it and they had not fixed it. It didnt bother me over the summer because the heat is off, but every time I reached out they told me they had a new motor on order but it hasnt come in yet. I wish i just kept my old exhaust, it worked just as good and didnt shake the house. Terrible service. Avoid at all costs. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Our AC was broken and they sent someone out. The technician didn't inspect the upstairs unit (which was broken) - just did some cursory checks and said everything was fine, there was no issue. We asked them to send someone else out the next day because the issue persisted and they sent the owner, Steve, who didn't even come into the house (the broken AC was located in the attic) before saying that there was still no issue and recommended we "move furniture away from the vents". The next day, the thermostat was set to 70 and the temperature was 77. So we called Azzo Air (highly recommend!) who came over and inspected the unit, only to find that the motor was broken - a pretty big issue that 2 people from Discount HVAC failed to identify. More importantly, when we called Discount HVAC and talked to Steve to get our money back, he hung up on my husband. So, if you want to get scammed, call Discount HVAC. If you want your HVAC fixed, call Azzo Air. read more

Totally a scam. The technician showed up with no mask. Then told me my air conditioner had a leak, he said I needed a new unit, because of the amount of gas lost. he quoted me for one new unit. He suggested I could change the second unit two, so I would have all working fine. And charged me for the visit. I checked later with another company, they said there were no leaks, they replaced the gas-Freon needed, and I am enjoying my air conditioner since June Do not call this company! read more

Beware, free inspection Scam Our furnace was working and sounded fine, but after the Tech was done we had a noisy furnace and a $700 fee. I explained the situation to the office manager and he responded as if this was my fault with no other options for solution. This is a shame as we have been with DH&C for over 15 years and spent way over 17K throughout. You have lost another customer. Wish they had a 0 star. Scamming company that doesn't actually fix their issues. Hired a totally different company who went into depth to find a leak like discount claimed I had. For 2 years I've been paying and paying for them to "fix" my issues and now having a new company the issue was found which discount put in the line dryer which leaked all over and was detected with uv light leaks. After i wrote a review stating this they decided to put my full name and my full address including unit number on their response on Google. Be careful. Some people just don't conduct honest work and post your location and full name. So sad. Do not use them. read more

We needed to have our AC replaced and our furnace was already almost 20 years old. Decided to have a quote done by them and Steve showed up promptly when expected the next day. After discussing the options, we went with an energy efficient (tax credit) AC and an 80% AFUE furnace. I sealed the deal with them since they could schedule the installation by the end of the week. Their team showed up, very professional and clean. Left the area spotless and the system is a dream. I dinged them one star as they weren't aware that there was a cash back program through Carrier at the time. A little investigation on my own showed that and I called them to arrange to have the rebate information filled out and sent. Not a big deal, but if I wasn't aware of it, I wouldn't have saved $1000. Amazing experience! The technician arrived, with a mask on, within 20 minutes of placing the call. This was especially great since the weather changed so fast this week and we needed heat asap. Our AC was working but the heat wasn't responding to the Nest, he identified the problem immediately and promptly changed our wiring and within minutes our house was warm! The entire appointment took about 15 minutes and totaled $127.50 (labor minimum $42.50 + $85 diagnostic) which I think is more than fair, that means they know what they're doing and are time efficient not that it's a scam. This was probably the worst experience I ever had with Discount Heating. Called them out for a simple furnace check and a cleaning of my dryer vent. The Tech took about an hour and a half. He broke a clamp in my heater. Then he broke my outside heater vent cover. He asked me if I could get the broken parts. He finally ran to a local store to get the clamp. And he gave me 6 bucks for the vent. All this to vacuum out my heater, drain some water and clean out the dryer vent. At a whopping cost of $170.00 read more

You won't find a more responsive and reliable company to service your HVAC needs. I called these guys at 7:00 on a Friday night when it was -3 degrees out. They were at my house in no time and back the next morning to execute the repair as the part that was needed for my archaic furnace wasn't one they had on the truck. They were VERY reasonable and super courteous. We called multiple places in our scramble to get heat and they were by far the fairest. They even told us that a part "could" be changed but wasn't necessary quite yet. When is the last time you found a service company that was that honest? In the end we swapped out the circuit board and opted to do the igniter too. They were in and out in a jiffy. We've found our HVAC team for life. read more

They came out and were very professional. They were willing to help and get the job done. I was calling around to setup appointments for someone to come and look into couple different projects that I have. Discount heating was one of them, because there was a sticker on my heater with their number from the previous owner. I called them and a lady asked me what were the projects that I had, I told her is both the HVAC and an electric heater that we have and needed to be relocated. She put me on hold and a gentleman came on the phone, telling me that it will be $85 dollars for someone to come out to give me a quote. I told him that he was the only one to tell me I had to pay for them to come out and give me a quote and his response was "well you seem that you don't know exactly what you need to do and that is why you keep calling around for quotes"!! Well, I thanked him for his honesty and I hanged up. I gave the job to TempCare heating air, the quote overall is: $6,000! That's what you get when you play the wiseass and ask for $85 dollars in order to come out and give me a quote! Maybe it is one time incident, but they just lost a 6K job because of the way the handled my request. read more

Been with them several years. If not for the units being under warranty I would charge service. As soon as the warranty expires I'm changing service. They have canceled service, and reschedule but never call then had to reschedule again. The tech does more talking then working, and they tried to charge me for warranty work. This is no place if your looking for a fair price, and basic good service not to mention there prices are not competitive. Good luck. When our furnace went out, I started to get estimates. Doug Granata came out, was honest with us, encouraged us to get other estimates, and ended up that we still had a warranty on our furnace, he called in , got the price, put it on hold for us until we decided. His techs came out, did a great job, and his price was good. It is hard to know who to trust with your furnace or air conditioning system but now we found someone. I'm glad I didn't check Yelp before hiring them. I had the complete opposite experience of Adele O. As a 23 year old single female I'm pretty careful about the service-people I allow into my house. Discount Heating was recommended to me by a family friend when I had to replace my furnace. I already had one quote and the owners worked with me to give me a much lower quote. Discount Heating quoted me around $400 less than the other company for the exact same furnace with a better warranty. The warranty was 10 years for both parts and labor, 20 years for the heat exchanger and honestly that's what sold it for me. Discount Heating even worked around my work schedule to find a good time to come in. The techs came on time and were very friendly and clean. They replaced my furnace in one morning and even showed me how to take care of it. The technician told me exactly what air filter to buy and told me not to waste my money on an expensive one; he said one in the $3-4 range would be plenty good. He even told me that Home Depot has them much cheaper than Walmart or Target. The owner even made sure to follow up with me. Like I said before, as a young single woman I'm pretty wary of getting scammed and of who I let into my house. But I always felt safe and like I was getting a good deal. Doug understood our frustration in the idea that we would have to spend so much money to replace the furnace in a realitively short amount of time. I called on them twice; when they installed my new Nest thermostat, and when my furnace needed a new pressure sensor. Both times they came on time. Chris my tech even put on booties before I told him to mind my newly refinished floors. The price was quoted up front with no surprises. Chris did not even mind me watching over his shoulder and explaining the mechanics of my furnace as he worked. We started with a bad taste in our mouths when Steve, the co-owner, insisted my husband be present when he came for an estimate, insinuating that it was a 'man' thing. We needed to replace our air conditioner and furnace. He told us outward untruths...that you needed to buy both a furnace AND air conditioner to get a tax credit(I promptly printed the requirements for the rebate from the government website)....then he said he was 'giving' us a 550 dollar air cleaner with the furnace purchase (again, my husband and I knew he wasn't giving us anything, it was a Carrier Corp. promotion.) He also didn't really know about the Carrier Cool Cash promotion. Then he proceeded to try to sell us a 13 seer unit (which happens to be the new baseline--legally the lowest seer unit you can sell) telling us it can "work like a 15 seer unit"...when I asked how much the coil costs for it to be a 15 seer, he ignored me, looked at my husband and continued talking about the rebate (which had little to no influence on what we were going with.) The price he gave us was 175-250 dollars HIGHER than that which was quoted from two other HV AC places--and they were offering higher seer units outright, as neither said they even sell 13 seer packages anymore. In addition, their warranties and service that they 'throw in' weren't as good as the other two estimates we got. All three places were able to schedule installation for the following Monday, after a Friday afternoon estimate. I would avoid them. read more

I can't say enough about the professionalism and friendly service offered by Doug and team at Discount Heating and Cooling. We realized the heat was out on December 7 when house started to get really cold! My husband placed a call to Discount and they were there the next morning. The dispatcher called to alert us that the repair tech was on his way. When Doug got there, he was very professional and very friendly. He was courteous enough to put on booties to protect our floors and even tolerated our overly-friendly 80 pound dog. He quickly diagnosed the problem and provided us with several options, based on desire and budget. It was so refreshing to have a contractor that is open, honest, and concerned about the homeowner's budget, rather than one that is focused on making the biggest profit. I have nothing but good things to say about Discount Heating and Cooling. We have been using them for over 7 years. They replaced a very old furnace/air conditioner unit at our townhouse in wheeling 4 years ago and recently replaced a furnace-A/C combo in our new home. Their pricing is very reasonable and more competitive than other heating and cooling companies we have reached out to and they are flexible when it comes to scheduling. The technicians are always courteous and leave the place perfectly clean after completing the work. I was particularly impressed with Discount when last year our furnace got flooded because of some pluggage in the humidifier drain pipe. Another company came out and told us the unit needed to be replaced. We then called Discount - they carefully inspected the unit, got it cleaned up, confirmed the electrical components were in working order and restarted the furnace. They told us there is no reason to replace it yet as it might last for another few years despite the water damage. Great company to work with. read more

I do not recommend this company at all! Call Allied Air Conditioning & Heating in Palatine first; their phone # is 847-359-4500. The northwest suburbs had a major heatwave on 5/19-5/21; it was 90 degrees with 100% humidity. My air conditioning was not working at all. Doug, the Owner, came to inspect my a/c unit on the first appointment, 6/14. He indicated I absolutely no freon and recommended filling my unit completely and adding a stop leak. He filled up the freon (about 5 lbs) at $83 per pound! The stop leak cost $185. Plus a diagnostic charge of $150. So I've already been soaked for $750! Other than revealing I had no freon, Doug did not perform any other diagnostic checks via visual or dye testing for leaks. He didn't even check the unit inside my condo. The a/c blew cold air intermittently for about 3 weeks. Fortunately we had much cooler weather, therefore I wasn't using the a/c for any extended time. Fast forward 3 weeks to 4th of July and another heat wave. Once again, a/c was not blowing cold air. Another technician, Tom, checked my a/c unit and said I was low on freon AGAIN. (Obviously, the stop leak did nothing!) He came inside my condo to perform a visual diagnostic check. Tom claimed there was a leak at a union which he tightened. He claimed that it was a significant leak and should be fixed now. He proceeded to fill my unit with freon again; another 4 pounds. However, they only charged me for 2 pounds. Cost of 2nd visit = $516 ($350 for the diagnostic check and $166 for 2 more pounds of freon.) 5 days later, my a/c was not blowing cold air again. Tom, the same technician, visited and said the only other place it could be leaking is the pipes within my walls. His conclusion was "Someone must have nailed something to a wall within another condo unit in my building and punctured a pipe." His only recommendation was to replace my entire a/c unit. Thankfully, they didn't charge me for the third visit since they had already raped me for $1,266 in addition to WASTED time off from work. As stated earlier, my next call was to Allied based on a recommendation from my brother. (It would have been nice if my brother had put me in touch with Allied FIRST!) My brother's comment was, any company with the word "Discount" in their name is cheap and unreliable, except for Discount Tire, which I do recommend.) An Allied technician came out and performed a nitrogen test whereby he created a vacuum in my a/c unit and immediately concluded I had a leak in my evaporator coil which was a very common place for leaks. This diagnosis cost me $125. (I wish I called Allied first!) I showed the Allied technician my work orders and receipts from Discount Heating & Cooling, and he was sympathetic to my plight. He said the diagnosis of a leak at a union was preposterous and inconclusive and that visual diagnostic testing was totally unreliable! Additionally, Discount was breaking the law by refilling my unit with freon knowing I had a gigantic leak. Completely disappointed by the explanation and service with this company. Again, I strongly encourage you to seek another company. read more
