I needed to replace two Arizonian tires due to tread wear, having had the other two replaced six months earlier. The quoted price was around $345 and while looking my original 4-tire receipt on their screen, I saw the warranty was for 55,000 miles. I only got around 40,000 even though the tires were rotated every 5,000 miles and I'm not an aggressive driver. So I asked about the warranty and after the rep did some calculations, a credit was applied reducing the cost to $254. This made me wonder: 1. Was the rep not trained properly to notice such obvious issues? 2. Was the rep trained and incented to avoid warranty credits? 3. With their modern POS/CRM system, why is there no function built into the quote workflow to simply check the difference between the achieved mileage and warranty mileage? Arizonian tires are manfactured as a private label brand for Discount Tire by Cooper Tires, which is owned by Goodyear. So the cost of warranty claims must at least partially be borne by Discount Tire themselves. The sales staff at Discount Tire are not paid a commission, but there are bonuses that store managers can receive based on store metrics. I'm sure a key metric is profit margin, which is reduced by warranty claims. The sales staff will of course strive to please their managers. There are also corporate metrics wherby frontline employees are measured on key performance indicators, such as attach rates for add-ons (e.g., lug nut kits, wiper blades) and I strongly suspect minimized warranty claims. So the fact that the rep didn't automatically look at the mileage achived vs. the warranty, and their POS quote function does not automatically check, it's an intentional tactic to extract excessive money from the customer. I know they're busy because the other Escondido location is closed for construction, but never will go back to this location again. EVER! We had an appointment last time and did this time too, but they don't honor it and take anyone else before you. Last time...after seeing this happening again and again & waiting over 25 minutes after our appointment time, finally got to speak to a person working there to complain. Then, our car was taken in next. This time after checking in, were told our wait would still be an hour (again because they don't honor appointment times and take anyone in regardless and serve them 1st). Not gonna happen so we said cancel us and walked back to our car only to find a truck parked directly behind our car and another car right in front of that one (they had stacked & parked cars in between both rows of parking spaces blocking anyone from being able to leave in the whole row)! Walked back to the office asking who's truck that is and can you move it? No one responded. Walked back to our car trying to find anyone who might own it. Nothing. Went back into the office yelling whosever truck this is, move your truck! Turned out it was a car who's person dropped it off and it was the employees who parked it there. They finally found the keys to it and after waiting 40 minutes to leave, were able to get the freaking out of there! I had the most incredible experience at Discount Tire in Escondido and feel so grateful to have met Jaime, the office manager. After driving through a construction zone near my home, I ended up with two punctured tires -- one from a screw that couldn't be repaired, and another from a nail. I was already having a tough month financially, with unexpected bills piling up, and to hear I actually needed all four tires replaced was overwhelming. I explained to the gentleman helping me that I could only afford to replace the one that couldn't be fixed, and I mentioned that my daughter is currently battling breast cancer, so things have been tight. About 15 minutes later, Jaime came out from behind the counter, sat down next to me, and said he had overheard my situation. To my absolute surprise, he offered to put three brand-new tires on my car at no charge. I don't cry easily, but I couldn't hold back the tears. I stood up, and asked if I could give him a hug. It was one of those life moments I'll never forget. Jaime reminded me that there are still wonderful, compassionate people in this world, and I truly needed that reminder. He told me that Discount Tire didn't become what it is just by selling great tires, but because its founder cared about people -- even starting a tradition of fixing flats at no charge. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had at a discount tire center. I had an appointment at 11:45am for a tire rotation. I arrived at 11:35am. I stood in line for over 10 minutes and the person that was supposed to help me told me to check in and sit down. I sat down for another 20 minutes and other people that arrived after me were getting helped and I was just sitting there. I then approached an employee and let him know. He told me that he was already helping someone that just came in. I said I've been here over 30 minutes with an appointment. He told me I just needed to wait. I then stated I have an appointment and it was at 11:45am. Seriously is this the way you really run a business? I used to be okay with this discount tire but after having wheels installed with them that's the problems started. First off when I ordered the tires they wanted to confirm everything with me but I always have my phone on DND at work so every time someone calls it goes straight to voicemail but I did confirm everything later. They called me again to say that the everything came in earlier than expected if I wanted to install the tires a week earlier. I was like great let's do it. So they install the tires but tell me that only 1 of the 4 hub rings was installed so the ride might feel a little shakey and yes it indeed does. Told me they were going to order them have the rest installed. A week goes by and nothing. I stopped it asked another guy about the hub rings looks like the first guy never ordered them. Well great, guy helping I watch him order them and says they should get here in about a week. Call this past Monday it's been delayed. Okay fine I get that but this is now going on week 2 and still nothing with the rings but I've had the wheels and tires installed for about a month already. Samuel was outstanding today. I intentionally bought my tires here because I have a 5th gen 4runner that notoriously can get a little shimmy in the 60mph range unless the tires are near perfectly balanced. Most of the time this takes Road Force balancing them. However, the previous two tire rotations whoever I dealt with each time, told me they could not do Road Force as it was only for when the tires are brand new... I knew this was not true because for the life of this vehicle pretty much every other rotation, I had to get them Road Force balanced. Hence just buying the tires this time at discount tire because they have the machine.... Yet the last 3 rotations (which means 15,000 miles!) they would not use the machine, even though I requested it, and so I had the shimmy... Samuel was extremely polite and said he would take care of it . Then the tech let me know that two of the four tires were out of range so they did indeed use Road Force - and thank God no shimmy!! Also, previously somebody told me the copping on the tires was terrible and like I would need new tires even though they only have 20 K miles on them... I used to trust discount tires and have been buying tires from them for all of our cars for over 15 years. That stops today! Brought my car in because my right front tire was losing air every 24 hours. I got tired putting air in it every day so brought it to Discount Tire in hopes they could put a plug in the tire. They kept my car for over 3 hours and said they fixed it. Went home and came out the next day to a flat tire. Called Discount Tire and they said it would a 3 hour wait. I didn't have time that day, so later in the week I went over and talked with a different tech. Without looking at the tire, he said the only option was to replace it, but since I only had 8K miles on these tire I would get a lot of credit for it. I spent another $175 on the new tire and installation. Of course they had to order the tire and said they would call when it came in. Waited around all day on Monday and the call never came. Finally called them around 2pm only to be told the tire had come in at 10am. I told them I would be there the next day. They install the tire, I go home and when i come out the next day...the tire is flat. I head back to Discount Tire and deal with the same tech who takes my wheel off and comes back to tell me I have a cracked wheel (thank you San Diego pot holes!). I asked why they didn't see this the first time because obliviously they did not put a plug in my tire when they supposedly fixed it. He said he was unable to tell what was done....OBLIVIOUSLY NOTHING WAS DONE THE FIRST TIME! I told them I wanted my original tire back, but they said it was long gone. They would take this tire back and give me my $175 back which I thought was just asinine. You take my perfectly good tire, have me make multiple trips to your store in not the best part of town, then want me to take my money and be on my way without a tire? These guys are crooks....the manager came out and told me the reason they replaced my tire in the first place was because I had driven on it (its a run flat), and it was ruined. I asked him where in your notes does it say anything like that and if that was the case, why didn't you replace it the first time I was there???? Needless to say, I will not spend another $$$ here. When I brought it up to the manager, he gave me a tire to take with me, but I later noticed it had a defect. I then approached an employee, Jorge, to request a different spare. Jorge went above and beyond, not only helping me swap out the spare but also offering to remove the old one that was stuck.
