Hired this company to remove some palm trees and plants from my yard. They did a great job on the front of my house.But on the side of my house behind my garage they were supposed to remove the some plants and the roots, and they only cut them down to the dirt.They did not remove the roots. As I noticed, they were starting to grow back.I called the company up and asked them to come back And finish removing the roots. It's been 2 weeks and they keep telling me.They will come but every time they don't show up I. Call them and then they tell me tomorrow again. Make sure your work is done before you pay them.I made the Mistake and pay them thinking the work was completed properly. It was not and they have not returned to correct it. This company has cut down 7 trees for me and June 2022. I had used them a few years earlier to cut a tree in the front yard and they did a great job. The only issue I have with them is both jobs they leave lots of routes behind where I had to hire someone else to go in and chop up the roots so little sapling trees don't grow, I contacted them recently 4 months after the June 2022 and sent them pictures of the saplings growing, and there was no response. We called them to give us a quote and the gentleman said he would come over tomorrow or text him some pics, but he never called us back. I called him again and said they are booked, but he'll drive by again to check out the 6 palms but never returned my call.... so I end up hiring another tree service company and got it done the next day. The sad thing is when I used them year after year, the son Jaime even told me to call them direct and not use Home Advisors and he would honor the price from last year (which was not cheap). Unfortunately when these companies are new and struggling, we gave them positive 5 star reviews and they tend to forget their older customer and stiff us this way. I had them trim my neighbor's trees and remove ivy from my yard. They snapped a sprinkler clear off the pipe, they removed my carnations which clearly do not look like ivy. They took an extra ten feet off my neighbor's trees and didn't shape them as discussed. I called several times months apart for them to send someone to fix the sprinkler. Hired this company in July to remove a tall tree, grind out the stump and also to clean out the adjacent flowerbed of all plants and remove roots. My plan was to completely redo the garden adding all new plants. I paid them the several hundred dollars they charged in full. Avoid Discount Tree out of Long Beach. I just wanted to share my very negative experience with them. I was quoted $450 to trim a Jacaranda tree separately by two companies. I countered $400 to Discount Tree, and they agreed in an email to do job for the $400. They showed up an hour earlier than scheduled, while I was still working. I let them start, and I gave them feedback early on that they were cutting off too much. They disregarded this feedback, and proceeded to butcher my tree almost bare (read their Yelp reviews, this is a common complaint). But the poor workmanship is not the reason for my post... As instructed, I gave the driver that was cleaning up the branches the $400 check as agreed upon. But 30 minutes later he was at my door with the check folded, telling me the job is $450. I showed the employee at my door the text message with Richard where I had confirmed in writing the job would be $400. He proceeded to call Abel on speaker, who did not care about the text, an insisted that the job was $450 and should have been a $600-700 job. I told him no, we agreed at $400 and if he needed to charge me $450 he should have told me before starting or at least during - not after the fact. He insisted I pay the additional $50. I told him OK, but lose my number, since this is simply no way to do business. I texted his son Richard, who then called me. He seemed to have no idea his dad reneged on the price and said he would see what was going on and let me know... but he did not follow-up and ignored me. I run a small to medium sized business, so this kind of shakedown outrages me on a fundamental level. I am sure they do this often and are rarely if ever punished for their bad behavior. If you read the one-stay Yelp reviews you will get a sense of how this company really operates. They do not do a good job and they lack basic integrity. I worked with Ceasar and he was honest, friendly and straightforward. I got quotes and met with 6 different companies before deciding on Discount Tree Care Arborist. I knew it was going to be a big job so I wanted to be absolutely comfortable with who we choose. Out of 6 quotes, 5 companies were licensed and 1 were not. DTCA beat out all 5 licensed companies, AND they told me they can get the job done as early as the next day. The next day, 7 men came at 830am, and worked until 430pm. My husband and I watched in awe as to how strong and efficient these men were. Friends and family were surprised that they got the job done in one day! The trees were very high and the trunks were huge. There was also bunches of vines and sticks that you couldn't even see through that they got rid of for us as well. We did have an issue with them only covering half our pool which caused lots dirt and rocks to fall in. However Ceasar did his best to address this quickly and fairly. Our storm drain near the trees is also clogged with dirt as DTCA did not know to cover it and we did not think of it either. Time waste. They showed up gave an estimate. It's a small job in the grand scheme, remove a tree, shape/trim another. They didn't show up on the scheduled day (morning). Next day I spoke with Francisco and he said he be there by 12. When he didn't show up I called the main number. Francisco called back and said he'd be there in the afternoon. Didn't show up either time. I called back on day 3, no answer. Look up the one/two star reviews, very similar. What's likely happening is a scenario that's true for many small businesses. They need to fill their queue with jobs of all sizes, so they give decent/lower quotes. They are friendly, nice, & tow the line of a family-run business. But, need to prioritize highest paying jobs. This strategy is good for business, bad for customers. As a small business owner I can empathize, as a customer is how I write this review. Time is money. On Nov 7th while trimming trees at a neighbors house post Santa Ana winds I was approached by Alberto of Discount Tree Care Arborist. He said that while his crew and equipment was in the neighborhood he could offer his services at a reasonable price. We agreed on $1050, work was underway and things looked good. He promised that they would do a great job and clean up everything. The work that was completed was excellent and a good value, However, after the crew left I noticed that there was a broken brass landscape light and an 8' Arbutus Marina Strawberry Tree was severely damaged. It gets dark early and these two issues were not obvious at first nor did Alberto's team report the damage. When I discovered the damage, I showed Alberto and he said that it must have occurred when he briefly left the job site. I purchased the replacement light and only asked Alberto to install it, he said he would. 2 weeks later he said his cousin would call me to install it. Many calls and texts to Alberto prior to this yelp review even left a message with Abel (owner) no call back. The tree and light damage is $500, only asked them to install the light and they couldn't even do that. Disappointed, too bad :( their work is good but the customer service is atrocious and they just don't seem to care. Had I seen the damage prior to handing over payment, I am not sure what I would have done but I thought I went easy on them with my simple request. Too bad that I have to leave this review because I learned from my neighbor the reason he chose Discount Tree Care Arborist was their reviews. These are impactful, I felt that I needed to tell others to carefully survey the work after completion (hopefully it's still light enough) and perhaps hold back a portion of the payment until any issues are satisfied. I called Discount Tree Care Arborists and talked to Able on May 9th to remove two 40' trees, some 15' Bird of Paradise and additional trimming work around the property. He came out right away and gave me a very competitive quote compared to the other person who I had hired who took 3 weeks to schedule and then cancelled on me 2 days before he was supposed to do the job on May 11th. After talking to him, Able said he would do the job with no up front charges and would only require payment after I was satisfied with the results. I agreed and he had his guys out the same day to start the job. By May 10th, the job was complete and the work area was left in perfect condition.
