Discovery Espresso is the definition of "good"--not great, but it gets the job done. It's a solid spot if you need a quick caffeine fix before hitting the Loop Trail at Discovery Park, but don't expect a curated boutique experience. The coffee is decent and the muffins, while likely store-bought, at least taste fresh. The barista was friendly and polite, which goes a long way. The main downside is the interior. There is none. It's incredibly cramped, and there are boxes of supplies stacked everywhere, which makes it feel pretty cluttered. Honestly, they'd probably be better off converting the front door into a walk-up window, as there's essentially zero room to move around inside. Bottom line: Great for a grab-and-go on your way to the park, but not somewhere you'd want to hang out. read more

Latte was pretty good, not burnt or bitter, and service was quick. We tried an Italian soda, blue raspberry flavor, which was a nice cold treat. FYI, they don't do smoothies anymore. The burrito was good but not very big for the price (about half the size of a chipotle burrito for the same price). Tried a cinnamon strusel coffee cake, a little dry, but not bad. Seating is limited to 3 metal chairs and a small circular table right in front of the shop. Inside the shop is tight and no more than maybe 3 people can fit inside at once. read more

I visited this neighborly family-owned coffee shop in Magnolia because of my friend who grew up in the neighborhood. We got latte and a piece of chocolate cookie. Discovery Expresso has the absolute best 8 oz Expresso in the world. the coffee served is organically and sustainably farmed and provides a living wage to those working in this highly labor intensive product (Cafe Mam). not only does the coffee taste incredible it's doing good. this is my go-to coffee joint when I'm in Seattle. read more

This coffee shop is located right before the park entrance so we stopped for some drinks and pastries. They had a peach passion fruit scone, haven't seen that anywhere so we had to get it! We gave this pastry to my sister and she loved it! She immediately lit up when she took her first bite and wanted us all to try! My husband and I shared a very tasty cruffin, it was a little gooey on the bottom but sweet and delicious altogether. To drink I ordered a chai latte but sadly wasnt super impressed. It tasted a bit watered down rather than rich, spicy and creamy. My husband loved his vanilla latte though, his had a rich coffee taste with just the right amount of sweetness. read more

I came 20 minutes before opening time on my way to a pre-work stroll through Discovery Park, but the owner offered to make me a drink anyway which made my morning. Two big thumbs up for the little local coffee shop that is Discovery Espresso! Located just down the street from us, Discovery is an easy place to run down to for a little caffeinated pick-me-up or other yummy treat. We've stopped in a couple of times and each time we've left satisfied. Their coffee is very tasty and full flavored, they have a good selection of teas and other beverages, and they even have some delicious eats as well. Both their coffee and espresso drinks are great (which doesn't always happen...sometimes coffee is good while mocha/latte is bad; or vice versa). We personally haven't tried the bigger food choices they have to offer (once we do, I may amend the review to more stars); but we have tried a few different drinks and one of the gluten free cookies they have at the counter. Each of them were great and we left happy. This is a great local place, as the owner behind the counter remembers people's names/faces/etc. and has its share of regular customers. I was really hoping to like this place as it was cute on the outside and a small local business I wanted to support but wasn't really happy with the result. I've only had the coffee so can't speak to the food which other reviews seem to love. I had the latte and I'm not exactly sure what was off about it but it was just not good at all. To be honest I didn't even drink half of it and the flavor was just bland, ​unlike other roasts I've had elsewhere. Inside the place was small but clean and provided a couple of​ tables with high bar stools to enjoy your drink on, I also think I recall there being a bench outside. The man who was working was also very nice and welcoming upon us arriving. As for the prices they were about average for what you would assume for coffee, slightly lower than some competitors. The only option for alternative​ milk is Soy if you were wondering. The prices for food specifically breakfast sandwiches were high compared to places like Starbucks costing $6 but looked pretty good with prices comparing more to a breakfast place. Overall, I don't think I'll return but might recommend trying the food since I didn't have a chance too but you might want to pass on the coffee. read more

My latte was solid. There don't seem to be many coffee shop options in this part of Magnolia so it gets a lot of business. This is a good spot to make before or after visiting Discovery Park! Came in and the guy behind to counter asked what we were interested in, my friend and I said a smoothie....long pause....we are thinking of what to get and he says "oh we are also out of fruit, we only have blueberries." Doesn't leave many options for any of their smoothies when most call for bananas, and others strawberries, etc. we came around 2, wonder if they ran out or didn't have enough berries to begin with. I really like this place. Friendly guy behind the counter, good coffee, good pastries, good breakfast sandwiches. It's small, quite small, but that's part of its charm. It's nice to have a place like this in the north end of Magnolia -- I wish there were a bit more of a commercial district up here. I do wish it were open Sundays and Mondays, and I do wish it were open later than 3 p.m. You'd they could do some good business with people going to or from Discovery Park. This is a tiny coffee shop and the closest food to Discovery Park. The photo of the sign on the Yelp page says they're open until 4, but this seems to have changed since that photo was taken; at least on Saturday, they closed at 3. Food options here are fairly limited, especially in the savory department. We stopped for lunch near closing time (around 2:30) and there were a few pastries left (they have Mighty-O), and they serve breakfast sandwiches all day. I had a ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich (on an English muffin) and it was good. They also have turkey. I also had a mocha, which was good - it wasn't overly heavy on the chocolate, and the coffee was tasty. Since this place is so tiny it's not the best place to sit and hang out, but it's a good place to grab a snack before going to the park. read more

I stopped into this little coffee shop after visiting Discovery Park with my daughter. Saw the sign and needed some early afternoon caffeine. Let me say, when I need a caffeine kick the ambiance really doesn't matter, especially in Ballard where they prefer Socialism over being American. I would say however this joint was clean and appears to be owned by a small business owner who was hospitable and friendly. Now, on to the review.
