I'm not sure what pediatrician puts a finger in a baby's mouth with acrylic nails. Just gross & unsanitary. So I switched to the husband after that incident. The husband was very unprofessional & rude the last visit. Putting his own personal views before his bed side manner. My last review was taken down. I probably should get over it but I just don't want anyone to go through what I experienced. When it comes to our children, you want the best treatment and to feel safe. Dr. Amy Cooper and Dr. Paul Horowitz and their staff (Wendy and Suzanne) provide the best care beyond what you'd receive elsewhere. My son who is autistic has received the most remarkable care. They've accommodated to him in making sure he feels in a safe and comfortable environment. They've been beyond patient with my child. I couldn't recommend a more better and safe practice for your child. Appointments are always available, no need to wait a long period to have a check up. Will see you same day for any emergencies. And have a phone line running that a provider will answer after office hours for medical emergencies. Staff is welcoming and always have a smile on their faces. So I've been here twice now. The first time with Dr.Cooper was great. She actually offered me the flu vaccine along with my daughters for our visit. It saved me time not having to get my own shot. She answered all of my questions and kindly explained to me my options for testing, etc. When I visited the second time I had Dr Horowitz (male) and it was awful. From the phone call to the visit. We are new to the area and I'd only been to the office once around 5 months before this call. He pressed me over and over about who I had seen for some reason, instead of just asking my daughters name. Which would have made more sense. He made me feel as if I was being paranoid about an illness he, himself (and medical personnel outside the office) had alluded to over the phone. He made contradictory statements during the visit and had no explanation for my daughters state days earlier. I wasn't looking for any particular diagnosis but I did want to make note of her appetite and things that pertained to a potential diagnosis (whatever that may be). I was looking for an explanation to avoid any future episodes, really. He did say I could test her but by that time I just wanted to get out of an uncomfortable situation. All moms have a bit of paranoia but I was really off-put by the entire interaction. Obviously, I'll just be handling all of my appointments with Dr.Cooper instead. I am so happy to have found Discovery Pediatrics! When I was first looking for a pediatrician I asked around and two different people recommended them. There is a yearly fee of $350 to be a part of this practice in addition to the usual charges of seeing the doctor. While the fee isn't cheap, I do feel like I get my money's worth. For my first visit after I left the hospital the doctor came to my home, which was nice. I never have had a difficult time getting in, usually same day if needed. I've also never had to wait more than a few minutes to see the doctor once I get there. I'm never rushed during my son's appointments and have plenty of time to ask whatever questions I want. I've called after hours more times than I care to admit and typically received a call back in 5 - 10 minutes. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful as well. I really feel we get top-notch service here and am very grateful I found them! read more

Dr. Horowitz and her husband used to be with Facey Medical group. They left the SCV and came back and opened a pediatrics practice. Dr. Horowitz's reputation with Facey was good and I have no reason to doubt her competence. We saw her for a couple reasons, one of our concerns was that our son was non verbal at 3 years old. She basically blew our concerns off and told us that it was probably due to him watching too much TV or playing video games. She did not take the issue any further and dismissed it. Well, she was wrong. It took our child care provider to refer us to someone that helped with this problem. Indeed there was an issue that needed to be addressed. If a child is non verbal at 3, there is a problem and I would think a doctor would have known this. This can mean many different things. Early detection and addressing any issues are key to overcoming them. Needless to say, this left a bad taste in my mouth and I would not patronize her. read more

I am saddened to hear about Larry's experience with Discovery Peds - and most importantly I hope his son is absolutely thriving. Having said that, I have to give another picture of this practice - because as the mom of a toddler - we couldn't be happier with Discovery Pediatrics. This practice has a monthly fee to join the "family" - they do this to keep the number of patients low, which means they can offer specialized care, house calls, communication over email, and NO WAITING for appointments! My experiences with this practice have been night and day compared to the annoying assembly line pediatrician's office that I defected from. The office is calm, beautiful, and open - when you walk in you see the doctors, you see the nurses. My son was terribly ill with a horrible cold/virus/throat infection - we called in a panic to make an appointment and were booked promptly. To my surprise we were greeted when we walked in - and ushered into a room within minutes... when you have a petrified and very sick toddler, that means a great deal. The Dr was relaxed, knowledgeable, caring, and great with my apprehensive tot. Not only was the appointment terrific, when I had some concerns over the weekend I paged the Dr, and he called me back within 3 mins - offering support and advice. We are incredibly impressed with this practice on all fronts, and altho I hope I don't have to see them A LOT - we are thrilled to have found them. read more

As first time parents, the Horowitz's have been an ideal fit for us and our son. He is now 7 months old and thriving. There are a few reasons that I believe set them apart from other pediatricians: 1. They do house calls from time to time. It was priceless when Dr. Daphne came to our house during the baby's first week for a check up and we didn't have to get out of the house. 2. They respond very quickly to emails and phone calls. 3. Their waiting room is never busy, it has a well-marked sick and well side, and we get brought back quickly. 4. The office staff is always friendly and efficient. 5. Most of our visits have been well checks, and Dr. Daphne spends extra time talking about safety and has been extremely helpful guiding us on feeding and sleeping. read more

Dr. Paul Horowitz has been such a pleasure since the first time I met him. As many new moms do, I interviewed him (and a few others) and he and his practice is the perfect fit for our family. Dr. H spent his New Years Day following my newborn daughters blood results that were taken in the hospital every 4 hours. She did get diagnosed with a liver disease at 6 weeks old and he was with us EVERY step of the way thru surgery and beyond. Dr. H feels with you, he is so calm, he has a wealth of experience, he is awesome with kids and he knows his stuff. I appreciate the immediate call backs after hours, which we have used for hives, a car accident and unexplained fevers. Dr. H and Discovery Peds is more than 5 stars in our minds and hearts. read more

These doctors are amazing! My daughter has seen them since she was born. They are very knowledgeable and both are excellent doctors. You never have to wait more than a few minutes to be seen. They ALWAYS call you back right away even if it's in the middle of the night. We have always been able to get a same-day appointment. They have helped us so much over the phone when we just had some questions. They are super friendly and both are wonderful with kids. Very patient and answer all the questions you have without making you feel rushed. We are so appreciative of the amazing care they have given us over the past 4 years. Unfortunately, we had to move to Irvine, so we are not able to use them as our pediatrician anymore, and we are very sad about it. They have been there so much for us, they almost feel like family. I highly recommend both of them and it is totally worth the annual fee. They really provide superior service to their patients. read more

No joke Discovery Pediatrics is absolutely the best there is. They always have time to see us and same-day appointments for any reason are a cinch and there is never a wait. Both the Horowitz's are great but our two boys usually see Dr. Paul. He IS AMAZING! He is great with kids and an excellent doctor. He has met us at our home and multiple locations in town outside of office hours. My 3-year-old son's arm ligament has a propensity to "dislocate" when his arm gets pulled the wrong way. It's very painful for him and he can't move. Dr. Paul has met us four times late at night outside the office and fixed his arm quickly and sympathetically. FOR FREE! Because he cares so much about helping people. In addition to the great doctors, the nurses are great, and the office facility is super clean and kid-friendly. He's a fan of U2 and wears "chucks" which means he can definitely​ be trusted. 100/100. read more

I have been seen Dr Horowitz for almost 4 years now and I have never had a negative experience from any of the staff or doctors! I honestly can't say enough nice things about this office and the lengths they go through to make you feel safe and important. I like the fact that when I do call after hours I get to talk to my child's pediatrician and not another dr on call who knows nothing about my kids. I like that on extreme cases my dr will take time out of his weekend to see my sick child. I also like that the front staff is so kind and never rude to me in person or on the phone. I saw Dr. Cooper with my 2 children this week as new patients. We had come to interview with Dr. Paul a couple of months ago and gotten the general info on the practice, so we had already met most of the staff. I was impressed again with the staff and their friendly demeanor. My kids were afraid of getting their shots, but Dr. Cooper and her staff were very patient and Suzanne gave them shots that didn't even hurt! Wow! Don't even waste your time. I just called and the receptionist wouldn't tell me cash prices so I could take my sick daughter in to be seen. She then proceeded to tell me that they were not interested in seeing my daughter at all unless I was planning on being a regular patient. She then went on to inform me that they charge a monthly fee to be part of their practice. What kind of bs is that? I work in healthcare and never have I heard of such a thing! My 3 year old woke up with a bad case of pink eye this morning so I searched around for a pediatrician nearby our apartment. His actual pediatrician is in Sherman Oaks but his doctor is on vacation. I am sure my son has pink eye and I just want a doctor to see him quickly so I can get a prescription. The lady on the phone first demanded to know what kind of insurance we had. Then asked if we planned to establish a relationship with them. Since I told them about my son's pediatrician in Sherman Oaks, her tone of voice changed, and she was not even that friendly to begin with. She informed us that "our office doesn't do that" and the doctors will not see him and that I should take my son to urgent care instead. Not nice. :( read more

I am a new parent and LOVE these doctors. I really appreciate the personalized attention and care that they provide. There is a yearly fee, but it is reasonable and WELL worth the difference in care. For $250 a year you get peace of mind knowing that if your child is sick you will be seen ASAP, and because the practice stays small you get these other benefits: House calls (on occasion) Promptly returned calls Same-day or next-day appointments Appointments on time Telephone consultations w/ your doctor It's really the way that going to the doctor should be. I had met with Dr. D. Horowitz prior to deciding to use their office. I was very clear about my concerns with vaccines and wanted to make sure she was open to allowing me to decide what is best for my children. Mind you my children are all vaccinated. The vaccine for HPV was fairly new and I did not want my son getting it. I was very clear with the Dr. about researching any vaccine to come down the pipe. Anyway, she seemed to understand. We scheduled an appointment for my two sons (teenagers) for a physical. I was unable to attend the visit because I had another appointment so my husband took them. My husband called me from their office about an insurance question and I asked how it was going. He said good. The boys just got the hpv vaccine and have to sit for 20 minutes to make sure they don't have a reaction (standard for this vaccine ). WTF are you kidding me! Well that's a red flag. I could not believe this Dr. completely ignored my concerns and manipulated my husband into doing it. Well guess what? My son had a reaction and to this day (4 years later) we still don't know the extent of the damage. We have seen oncologists at UCLA, urologists and surgeons at children's hospital. I won't go into details for privacy reasons but I'm telling you if you want to have a say in your child's healthcare DO NOT go to this place. The symptoms my son has experienced were terrifying to him as well as us. Dr. Horowitz just blew it off. Yes I filed a report with vaers but that doesn't change the damage done that we still don't know to what extent. read more

Firstly, I rarely write reviews on products, people or places. But Discovery Pediatrics is different. For those questioning a small annual fee to have your child seen by their practice all I can say is enjoy sitting in waiting rooms at other doctors. The immediate and personalized attention it provides to you and your family is priceless. I have never once called in for my daughter and not been able to see the Dr. the same day when it was needed. Their office is appropriately separated to keep sick children away from healthy children. Though they schedule appointments so well that it's been on an extremely rare condition that I've ever seen another family in there. My 5 year old daughter loves the personalized attention as well. From her first name on the small white board welcoming her to the office to Dr. Paul's magic tricks, she actually doesn't mind visiting the doctor, sick or well. We've never felt rushed during appointments, in fact I typically always walk out of their office feeling more educated and secure with my child's health and growth. Between the informative Facebook posts and email newsletters, I truly feel as though my daughter and I belong to a very social, loving, and caring family and not simply just a number being cattle called for a brief exam, Rx giving, and so long out the door. As new parents...Discovery Peds was/is a lifesaver. From the beginning, they visited our newborn at our home and have always been available 24/7 to answer any questions. As new parents...we had many. They have always been understanding and supportive and have never made us feel like we were a burden. We never wait for appointments, we are seen right away when we go in Dr. H knows us and our daughter well. Everyone is polite and friendly. As for the annual fee, at first I found it odd but after seeing the benefits of a practice that is not overcrowded and extremely responsive...we are believers. My husband and I have been taking our daughter to Discovery Pediatrics since she was born (two and a half years). We personally have been thrilled with our service. The office staff is friendly, polite and personable. Both Paul and Daphne are amazing with kids and parents. They relate to you and your experiences, while providing professional medical treatment. We were referred to them by friends and have also referred friends to the practice. I firmly believe you get what you pay for. The additional cost per year is nothing considering how much your children can see the doctor in the first years of life. This is a minor monthly fee (not one lump sum) for personalized treatment. Basically, you get what you pay for and much more. Consider what your child's health is worth to you, and the luxury of personalized care. For us it is priceless. Not to mention the conveniences they offer with same day appointments, house calls, and weekend visits or phone calls and communication via email. We have never waited in the waiting room once in over two years. You always know you will reach one of your doctors with a husband and wife team (not a strange on-call doctor, unfamiliar with your situation). The office is clean, kid friendly and non-intimidating. Our daughter has generally been a healthy kid, but recently this flu season had a tough bout with a sensitive air way (hospitalized twice in three months). One service I feel that Discovery should be more vocal about the connection with Children's Hospital. Not only do you receive one on one attention at Discovery Pediatrics, but should your child need to be hospitalized they now have a partnership with Children's Hospital to ensure the same personalized treatment. Our experience with this was completely AMAZING. On a Saturday (while out of town) Daphne Horowitz still immediately returned our call and took care of all the arrangements for us to take our daughter to Children's Hospital. She was struggling breathing and we were a nervous wreck. She personally put us in-touch with a Director of Children's Hospital who gave us VIP service the entire way. We walked straight in to emergency and Dr. Daphne's contact, Caitlin, was waiting for us. We were given amazing care, we did not wait in the crowded waiting room and she mediated all communication to Dr. Horowitz. Caitlin stayed with us through the entire process and made sure our daughter was comfortable. Even better Dr. Horowitz stayed in-touch with us as well. She was in the loop with the hospital and even called to follow up that night and the next morning. This is above and beyond the call of duty that you would get even some of the best PPO practices. Having a sick child can be very scary and stressful, we know this now. But when you have a doctor like this it really eases your mind to know they are truly just a phone call away and genuinely care. I would l highly recommend them to anyone. Our experience has been amazing. I have never heard of a private practice throwing a patient picnic in the park just to show appreciation and allow parents/children to meet or being on-call 24/7. They really believe in growing with you and your family and take a personal interest in your health and satisfaction as patients. Trust me, my husband is tough to please coming from a financial background. Even he is thrilled with the service and care we receive taking our daughter to Discovery Pediatrics. read more

I cannot express how wonderful this practice is! My kids had Dr. Daphne Horowitz as their pediatrician when she was in FACEY. My youngest son had an issue with his swollen parotid glands at that time. I would bring him to the ER when his glands would flare up the size of golf balls on one/both sides of his cheeks. The Dr.'s in the ER would give me different explanations for why it would happen and prescribe him medication. Dr. Horowitz was the only physician who TOOK HER TIME to research and find what this problem was instead of sending him home with meds. I was sadden when her family moved to WA, but thrilled when I heard they were back in the SCV. Right away, I did not hesitate signing my kids up to their private practice. My kids always, always get personalized attention. It's great that if I have any concerns they can be reached when necessary. Dr.'s Daphne and Paul are wonderful!!! read more

I found Discovery Pediatrics and met with Dr. Paul Horowtiz while I was pregnant with my twin boys. I was looking for a pediatrician who would spend time with my kids, get to know them, and be available for all of my important and sometimes not so important first time mom questions and issues. I hoped that Dr. Horowtiz could and would follow through with all he had promised. I had my boys at 29 weeks and spent 7 weeks in the NICU. Dr. Horowtiz has been with us since before my boys were released from the hospital and has been everything that I never thought I would find in a doctor. He has been attentive to all of our needs as parents and has been an invaluable source of support, guidance and knowledge during this first year of our children's lives. The annual fee to join Discovery Pediatrics is a small price to pay for the peace of mind I have knowing that my children have a doctor that knows them and is truly available to me either in person, on the phone or by e-mail. I am always reminded of how grateful I am when I hear a friend or family member talk about bringing their child in to the pediatrician in order to ask a question. I cannot count how many times in a year that I have called Discovery Peds with a question and been put through to Dr. Horowitz within minutes. I have never, never, waited for an appointment, even on a same day appointment when my son was sick. It is truly a wonderful practice. read more

I was with another practice when my first son, who is now 19 months, was born and finally smartened up and joined Discovery when he was 6 months old. Since then they have been available same day through every cough, cold, ER visit and check up. I just had my second baby and Dr. Paul was so thorough in the hospital and was so amazing to do a home visit check up since my baby came during the holiday. Discovery Pediatrics is one of the best medical practices I have ever encountered. Both of my young sons (ages 6 and 3) have been patients of Dr. D. Horowitz since birth. Dr. D. Horowitz is an excellent doctor and professional. She takes her time with educating parents and with examining her patients. We do occasionally see the other doctors and they are equally as wonderful and professional. The front staff are also friendly. The yearly fee to be a patient at this practice is well worth the cost. In exchange, we receive same day appointments, the doctors have more time to spend on their patients, and we have NEVER waited in the waiting area. The level of service is exceptional! read more

My son is 19 months and we have been with Discovery Peds since he was born. We have been nothing but thrilled with the service and care we have received from BOTH doctors and their staff. When my son was about 9 months old, he had to be hospitalized for dehydration at Northridge Hospital (they have a pediatric trauma center). Dr. Paul was in contact with us every step of the way and even ensured that the Northridge staff was immediately attentive of my baby. Three months later (in an unrelated incident), my son had to have a minor surgery and again Dr. Paul was with us every step as well as in close contact with the surgeon. My husband and I don't think about the yearly fee when Dr. Paul checks in with us at the hospital at midnight or we call in on a Sunday and get a call back 10 minutes later. My mother has Discovery on speed dial and they are more patient with her than I could ever be! The yearly fee may allow for nice benefits, but the fact is that the Drs. Horowitz are truly wonderful doctors. They and their staff provide fantastic service and care. read more

This is one of those reviews where I wish I could just shout from the rooftops how much I love them! We see Dr Daphne who we absolutely love. I had twins that were slightly premature, so we thoroughly did our homework prior to choosing a ped. Discovery was the last place we consulted because once we did, their was just no question on who to choose. The search was over! Discovery pediatrics is in a class of their own, they provide service that just doesn't exist anymore. Not only is their facility beautiful, wait times are non existent. I went through a couple of pediatrician's before I found Discovery. I love everything about it. From the clean and modern office to the personal attention we receive. I never feel like they are rushing to the next patient, but that they listen to my concerns and answer all my questions. It's easy to get an appointment and they call back very quickly when I call with concerns regarding my son's health. It's the pediatric office you've been looking for. I have not had a very good experience with Discovery Peds. I will not write a novel regarding an unnecessary traumatic experience that occurred previously...I'll just say that I learned not to trust that my additional fee is actually beneficial as neither doctor will even make an effort to assist you unless it's absolutely convenient for them. I have only remained with this practice because of them not being too harassing about an alternate vaccine schedule but I still get sideways looks and questioned with each visit. However, during my recent visit (within the last week) I was appalled to see extremely sick children not only on the well child side but that they were coughing and touching all toys and stickers on the well child side. Also, I had to request that the counter and scale be wiped down before my child was placed on it or I had to touch it. This is a medical office yet you don't automatically wipe down the area after an obviously sick child was present?! Why wasn't the sick side being used?! Now I'm afraid my child who was only in for a normal check-up will become sick! I am not at all impressed. read more

My son has been going to Dr. Paul Horowitz since he was born and the reason for my son being here today. My son was diagnosed at two months with a heart defect by Dr. Horowitz (he should've gone to surgery when he was born). He referred us to a cardiologist and has had a great team by his side. I can't thank him enough for everything he has done for my son and family. Just recently my son was very ill and after two trips at Henry Mayo hospital, I took him to see Dr. Horowitz. He told us to go to Cedars-Sinai (where his operations have been performed) because he was concerned about the red bumps on his skin. After sitting in the E.R for six hours and my son in pain, I called Dr. Horowitz and gave him an update. He asked me for the number to E.R and within minutes, my son was taken to the back and looked at. That is the extraordinary service you will get from Discovery Pediatrics. A $25 monthly fee is for the peace of mind and professionalism your children will get and the after-hours service is the best. He has gotten back to us within minutes after leaving a message and there were times when I would call more than once and it was never a bother. He has opened his office for us on WEEKENDS as well!!! THANK YOU for continuing to provide the excellence in medical that you and your wife have done Dr. Horowitz and not looking foward to the day when he no longer is able to be his doctor at hand. read more
