Been going to Dr Manuel office for over a year for my two kids. We recently had a change of insurance card but our old insurance was still active , they refused to see our kids for their vaccinations until we provided them with the new cards. Unfortunately the reception there isn't the best and we couldn't get the images of the card to download on our phone. When asked if we could have their Wi-Fi to log on Brian said he didn't know the password. We tried for about 30 mins and all we could get was the policy number which was not good enough for Dr Manuel. They wouldn't give us service even if we were to send them our cards after we got home. Keep in mind they have our credit card on file to charge if needed. At this point our kids were very cranky and we left. About 30 mins after we left we get a voicemail from Brian saying that they have a appointment at 4pm on the same day and if we don't come back we will be charged $125 per kid for cancelation. Will never go back here and will never recommend anyone going. Find a doctor who actually cares about the patient and not the money. On the side note when you call the office the doctor answers the phone and pretends she's the secretary. Very weird !!! read more

I had kaiser before coming to Dr. Manuel. I felt kaiser was always on the critical side. And every time my kids were seen it was always something. Too much this. Not enough that. Dr. Manuel makes me feel like my mothering choices are correct and treats us like humans. She doesn't want to throw a specialist at me anytime I bring up a concern. She gives me advice, I take it and it's always been right. She remembers me, my kids and even our day to day life. Anytime I've called with questions, she gets on the phone personally. While I may have suspicions of whether or not there was genuine concern or just acts of habit, such as a routine form of questioning that sounds intimate enough to make it sound like there's a personal connection, the billing practices for this doctor was enough to make me change doctors. Dr. Manuel and her staff are amazing! We have taken our daughter to Dr. Manuel since she was born for the last two years. We are so thankful for her knowledge and guidance over the years. Her staff are always so professional and friendly and my daughter loves the many books and fun vintage decor of the office. Before the birth of my daughter I interviewed several pediatricians in the area and Dr. Manuel really stood out. First of all she had mentioned during the interview that she is like an old school doctor in that she is available even after hours via a paging service. This has been so helpful to us especially since we were first time parents. We highly recommend Dr. Manuel to anyone looking for a pediatrician in the SCV area. Two years later, Dr. Manuel is still the very best in the kid doc biz! She has, and remains to be, committed to getting to the bottom of each and every ailment my children show up with, from bumps and bruises, to concussions, bleeding head injuries, busted toes, baseballs to noses, double-sprained ankles, 105 degree fevers, dehydration, funky skin conditions, hairline fractures and the latest- a very, scary what she determined was infected, spider bite! She never takes any situation for granted, always asking my children lots of questions, to ensure they are being safely cared for- on all fronts. She even takes extra time, when necessary, to dig into something she sees emotionally that doesn't look right. My husband and I feel so very blessed and honored to have found her. Although I believe Dr. Manuel is exceptional at her skills as a doctor, the billing side is another story. I also can't believe she isn't aware of this practice considering the lady who IS the billing department is named Virginia Manuel (coincidence I think not.) We have been seeing Dr. Manuel for about a year and a half and I realized every time I went in, there was a balance. This was after paying my copay. This last visit, they said I had a balance of 92.63. This seemed outrageous so I immediately went home and called my insurance company and told them each charge and its code. Sure enough every charge on there was not billable and fell under my copay! My insurance company (BCBS) called the billing department on three way and explained the mishap. The lady was very rude said she would have to speak to the doctor first and then call me back. Today she called back and basically told me that the insurance company doesn't like when they charge for certain things, but it's "legal." NOT!!!! The items they charged for; urine specimens, and a Saturday visit when they have Saturday hours posted and draw you into their office with those hours. I explained to her that my copay covers all these charges and after some back and forth she said "I'll go ahead and write them off this time." I pay for insurance so that I don't have extra charges! Sadly we are done with Dr. Manuel's office. There are more ethical offices out there. I am not a fan of shady business practices. Who knows how many other charges I paid before realizing this mistake. Too bad. read more

WARNING: Their billing department is TERRIBLE!!! I was sent a bill with the same amount for literally every two months. Here is the kicker, My husband and I spoke to our insurance company to make sure we didn't owe anything outside of our copay and they concur. Furthermore, we had our insurance to call the billing department to rectify this situation and the lady from the billing department told our insurance that everything is ok and taken care of. We thought that everything was cool until we received the SAME bill again today. I called the billing department again to make sure that they didn't send this amount over to the collection agency. This lady told me the same story from last time about my bill and I told her that it was already settled. Keep in mind that it's only ONE person that work in the billing department so it was the same person every time. What really PISSED ME OFF is when she attacked my parenting skills by telling me that I should take better care of my son!!!!! It was disrespectful and very unprofessional! SHE HAS CROSSED THE LINE AND IT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!! I told her that we are never coming back and she said that's ok like I was not of any value as customer!! We paid our copay every time we visit and has NEVER experienced such disrespect at any other clinic. This clinic is Thirsty for money and they will charge you for everything even if it is NOT AUTHORIZED!! We will not come to this place again!! read more

My husband and I moved to the area about a year ago with our son, who was 9 months old at the time. I started taking our son to Dr. Manuel based on her glowing reviews and immediately I agreed with them. The front office staff remembers my name and my son's name as soon as we walk in, and greet him warmly. When I call the office to ask questions, I get answers without judgement, and if the person answering the phone isn't sure, they will have Dr. Manuel call me back herself to answer. The return phone call always comes back in half an hour or less. My son has eating issues and has been in occupational feeding therapy for about 8 months now. Dr. Manuel understands his limitations there, and since he was underweight, she did a special 21-month physical for him even though it wasn't her usual. When he had gained weight, she was genuinely excited about his progress and his health. Dr. Manuel also gives out her pager number and answers it at all hours. She is always available to her patients and their parents because she really does care about us. Last week I called because I was having trouble getting my boy's fever down. At first the front desk person made me an appointment for the following morning, but after I still had trouble, I called again. It was a little after hours, and she answered the phone herself and asked if we could come in right away. We did, and instead of acting like we were an inconvenience, she kept saying how glad she was that I had called. It turned out that his fever was at 104.7, and he had both an ear infection and strep throat. Dr. Manuel was able to keep me and my husband calm as she explained what she wanted us to do at home: a cool bath for 10-15 minutes, and then a cold towel wrap for about 10 minutes, alternating towels every two minutes. She was specific and clear. She wrote him a prescription for antibiotics, remembering that this was his third ear infection in just a handful of months. She also said that if we needed anything between then and our morning appointment, we could page her at any time. We're expecting our second little boy in a couple of months, and can't wait for Dr. Manuel to meet him too. I cannot say enough about Dr. Manuel. We are new to the area and needed a established Pediatrician for my son. I'm so happy that we found Dr. Manuel (through Yelp). She took time knowing us, stayed in the room while he had his breathing treatment. She explained all our medication options and her recommendations. Dr. Manuel has been caring for my three children for the past 13 years. She is incredibly thoughtful and patient with each one of them. If I ever have any concerns, she usually gets my child in right away, or returns my phone call very quickly. She is caring, concerned, and never rushes our appointments.
