Recently, we received an email stating that students are not permitted to enter classrooms before the scheduled class time so that instructors can "prepare the learning environment." However, in reality, many professors arrive exactly at the start time or even after class is supposed to begin. Meanwhile, students are expected to stand in hallways or find somewhere else to go even when we arrive early after work to study. The only alternative spaces are the library or cafeteria, both of which have very limited seating. It feels unreasonable to pay out of pocket for an education and not even be allowed to sit in an empty classroom while waiting. We then received another email about elevator use, which is understandable for accessibility reasons. However, the message stated that misuse could result in parent/guardian contact. This is a school of adults, and many of us are parents ourselves. Including language like that clearly shows how little the administration thinks of its students and reinforces the feeling that we are treated like children rather than responsible adults paying for a professional education. Another major concern is the lack of respect and support from some faculty members. For example, Professor Jayne Kier is extremely unapproachable. Students feel uncomfortable asking questions because responses are often sarcastic, dismissive, or met with long, intimidating stares. There is little guidance provided, yet students are made to feel as though they are wrong for seeking help. This creates a stressful and discouraging learning environment. Lastly, it often feels like students cannot safely voice concerns. When issues are brought up to administration, they are dismissed as complaints rather than taken seriously even though many of us are committed, adult learners who care deeply about our education and future careers. It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way as paying adult students. We invest our time, energy, and money into this program, yet we are treated as if we are receiving a free service and should simply accept it without question. The tone and treatment are not only disrespectful, they are humiliating.

I went to one of their open house events where surprisingly, I ended up starting the application process. I gave them all my documents, completed the application process, paid the application fee and even did an interview. When it was time to get my acceptance letter, a random man who I had no previous conversations with informed me that I would have to pursue the LPN and not RN program because I had foreign documents, mind you they're evaluated and were shown to them from day one. I told that man I wasn't going to do the LPN program and he laughed in my face and walked away. I went to go see the person from admissions who I did my application with to just to get some clarity, that man said NOTHING to me not even a fake apology for providing incorrect/incomplete information. DO NOT - I REPEAT DO NOT - ENROLL IN THE NURSING PROGRAM AT MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE…read more Less than 30-40% of students actually graduate. There is little to no real teaching, you are expected to teach yourself everything using ATI modules. When you fail and ask for help or a review, they just tell you to "read more and there is no time to review." You can read everything front to back, and the exams still feel designed in a way that makes them almost impossible to pass - with correct choices being marked as incorrect choice (despite having proof that that is what the book says). It is almost as if the exams are rigged. Even many outside adjunct professors have said it feels like students are set up to fail, possibly so the school can keep charging tuition, especially since many of the nursing credits don't transfer elsewhere. The get to simply re-bill the same people for an education that they already paid for and did not receive. They do not take accountability. When 62 out of 65 students FAIL, they blame the students instead of addressing poor teaching AND the fact that they do not provide CLINICAL EXPERIENCE. The same instructors can have failure rates of 90%+ semester after semester, and nothing changes. You are essentially paying for an education that you are not receiving. Clinical experience, which is required, is limited or nonexistent, yet they still charge full tuition. On top of that, the environment is very discouraging. Staff often speak to students in a condescending, demeaning and disrespectful way, like you are a child. Most nursing students are there because they genuinely want to help people, but that passion is not supported here. Instead, it feels like constant stress, hazing and intimidation. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Go to a program where students are actually supported, where the graduation rate is high, and where people 90% of students pass the NCLEX. Out of a class of over 60 students, many of whom are repeating the semester, only about 2-3 are currently passing HALF of their classes. That should tell you everything. I'm sharing this to genuinely warn future students. If you're serious about becoming a nurse, choose a different program.

The most organized, professional and courteous environment for COVID vaccine…read more I had a 2:45 appointment: arrived @1:45 and at 2pm I received my vaccine. By 2:24 pm I was finished. The process is simple: Pre- visit fill out NYS COVID- 19 vaccine form and a registration form with your own personal ID is sent via email. Bring government issued ID, insurance card and a copy of the registration and vaccine form. When I arrived at the College, I first had to enter a tent like entrance and was greeted by a rep who inspected my forms. I then was asked to enter another pre- vaccine area to confirm I was actually me: name, birthday as home address. I was then asked to enter the COVID vaccination area: the College's gymnasium. I then was told to go directly to table 6 where Mitchell and Williams were awaiting me. Mitchell asked me a series of health questions and then Williams vaccinated my arm. That simple! I was given my Vaccination Card and was asked to wait 15 minutes in the waiting area to ensure the procedure went smooth. In the way out, another rep inspected my card and stated I will be back in three weeks to get my second dose. The National Guard and FEMA staff are exceptional, professional and courteous. Special shout out to Mitchell and Williams; they both were awesome. My mom received her vaccine three weeks ago from a young woman National Guard named Ellis and she too spoke highly of her and this whole process. Well done Medgar Evers!!

The campus is spread over two block and is near the Pratt institute campus. My impression of this college is very positive. Plus- Small school, personal attention, small classes. 90% of the student body are commuters. Neighbor is historical- Clinton Hill. School is close to the city. The tuition is reasonable for a private school. The story is acessible by subway (G-train) and buses on Mytle Ave. and Dekalb Ave. (This review is from the view poinr of a parent with a college bound child.)

The library and classrooms need a huge makeover because everything looks like a public primary school. 13 block walk from Dekalb ave station. The people are nice, but the school isn't organized. Being a non-matriculated student here, I did not get on the right foot in. I do not take classes physically here but the problems I had to encounter do not make me want to take any in the future. I was charged for a $716 mandatory insurance because I was "placed" on a list with the matriculated students. And I didn't get any prior physical mail until an invoice came to my doorstop. The problem was taken care of, but they need better correspondence to their students before giving students private information to companies without the students consent. Yes, this school is in a historic area, but hey, this is the 21st century and you are in NYC, upgrade please!

As much money as they charge for tuition, they should be able to hire an assistant. If you're trying have 1199 sponsorship, 1199 updates their roster daily but the financial aid person will NOT check for you until she is ready. So if your registration is blocked due to a balance, even with proof of sponsorship, you will NOT get the classes you want/need. No one is ever able to help you via phone, you always have to go in person. They do not respond to emails either. If you need to be taught, this is NOT your school. You will teach yourself through ATI and plenty of reading material. Know who you are and what you can afford before you enroll. You have to be a strong learner of concepts if you want to succeed.

I remember being about what might happen with the c-section- the two possibilities- I was terrified and decided that I wasn't going to have a section. The day my water broke I was prepared and not the least bit scared. When they mentioned a section- I was ready. Physically and mentally and it all happened the way you said it would. So we were very ready. There were no surprises and it all went down so smoothly! Thank you for that! Nursing has been a breeze- our daughter has been an amazing happening in our life!
