This is a fabulous restaurant! I had a great cocktail and wine here in addition to a lovely entree and affogato. However, the apps stole the show! That focaccia is MAGICAL. Stopped by to catch up with a friend and had a lovely time. The gin martini was excellent, crafted with care by the bartender, who mixed it up with his dainty hands (a detail I won't forget!). Then the chopped salad, which was fresh and well-balanced. The standout of the night was definitely the spaghetti with pomodoro sauce was simple, classic, and absolutely delicious. I also tried the Pollo alla Milanese, which was flavorful but a bit too thick for my liking, though to be fair, I was already getting full. Finished off with the sticky toffee cake, which was rich, decadent, and worth every bite. Great spot for a cozy dinner with solid Italian fare. read more

I've been to every bar and restaurant in town and this one keeps bringing me back. The food? Great. The atmosphere? Fantastic. But above all of that is one man behind the bar - Jose. I've never seen anyone move as quickly as this guy, he's is literally doing 5 jobs at once and he does them to perfection. He makes me want to start a bar just to hire him. Huge disappointment. The prices here have doubled but sadly the quality is nowhere near what it was a year ago! Maybe it was a poor choice of dishes, but quality shouldn't depend on what you order. The complementary bread was stale and edible only with the complementary side of olive oil. The mushroom pizza was over-salted and the chicken my husband ordered was so salty that one bite required a full glass of water to neutralize the taste of salt. Will sadly be skipping this place in the future. read more

My girlfriend and I visited here on a late Saturday night. There was a great buzz in the air. It is a cute little place with good seating options. My first review of Disotto, although I've eaten here before. Also, this was ordered through Uber Eats. I tried the Brussels Sprouts, which has a Farm egg, crispy prosciutto, Calabrian chilies, pecorino. I've eaten Brussels sprouts at so many restaurants and they serve it a little differently here -- chalk that up to the chilies and the fried egg. The sprouts were perfectly done, firm but also very chewable and the addition of the egg gives a little richness and the chilies add a little bite. I also ordered the Pizza Con Salsiccia which is made with vodka sauce, Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, shallots, Calabrian chili breadcrumbs. The vodka sauce gave a nice creaminess and there was a generous topping of Italian sausage. The crust was very thin and crisp. The cheese didn't hold up to the delivery. It was a little lukewarm. The Uber driver did a good job at delivering promptly. I just think that the pizza would have been better dining in at the restaurant. I loved the complimentary focaccia with the seasoned olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was soft and like a sponge it drank up the olive oil. That would be delicious made into a sandwich. Overall, a good meal but as with other restaurants, it's better to dine in. I like the menu, the cacio e Pepe and carbonara look good, not to mention the desserts! read more

Booked a 7:45 pm Valentines Day reservation. Arrived at 7:45- restaurant was over packed and really noisy. We left our phone number and went to a bar a couple door away and heard nothing for 45 minutes. When my wife went back to check, the hostess said-"where were you", we texted"- my wife showed her her phone and there was no text. We ended up ordering pizza and eating at home. It's too bad Disotto where I've had decent food couldn't manage their patrons on what I'll acknowledge was a busy day. DO BETTER!!! read more

Love the look. Kind of tucked away and quaint. Perfect for a nice lunch or even a date night. Charcuterie board was delicious. Mascarpone French toast was great. My wife's new found love of mussels were definitely met. Service was good just a little slow. It looked like he may have been the only server. Overall he was great. Came in with a few friends tonight and absolutely loved it. We had fresh bread once we sat down. Wine service was great and there was a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages too. We started with the chopped salad which was delicious. For dinner we had the bolognese and carbonara, both delicious. We ended the evening with lemonicello. We enjoyed a couples dinner here--It was our first visit and we were seated at a nice booth. The ambiance is terrific-- the exposed brick, wood and lighting combine for a chill dinner vibe. The Service was timely and friendly. Everyone enjoyed their food-- we started with the calamari --it was crispy with little oiliness. The mixed salads were nicely done as well. The entrees were thumbs up-- the chicken parm, scallops, branzino, and linguini with clams. All in all this is one of the better Italian places we've experienced on the North Shore. read more

How can they claim they are an Italian restaurant when they don't know what Chicken Milanese is? It is thinly pounded breaded chicken cutlets. We received two huge chicken breast fried. Probably 4 inches thick. Inedible . Also we got the worst seat in the house on Christmas Eve after having made a reservation way in advance. Will never go there again. First time trying this spot and we had a great time, and definitely will be going back. Although there was one or two tables on the dining area the manager recommended the bar as the birthday party was somewhat loud. It was a good call. This review is for lunch for two at the bar on a Sunday in mid-March. service: Gretchen P. was our bartender and did an awesome job. The manager was also engaging and professional. bar: I started with a Disotto Bloody Mary ($15, as of 03/2024). Note there are Bloody Mary versions with candied bacon or slider as garnish! The Maplewood IPA ($10 as of 03/2024) was an exceptional beer. Kudos for having a Chicago-land IPA available. With our meal, my wife drank a Donna Laura Ali Toscana Rosse ($12) which is a great wine. food: We split the Italian Chopped ($16 as of 03/2024), so what you see in the photo is a HALF portion. We also split the Disotto Burger ($20) which the kitchen was nice enough to also split. Special mention for the excellent fries. details: Theme is Italian and wine with lots of cute décor. The place was not packed at 1pm, but would imagine it gets very busy sometimes. We found street parking, but that might be an exception, not the rule. read more

I was disappointed. I ordered risotto with scallops. I was worried the scallops wouldn't be cooked correctly, but it was the risotto that was hard and undercooked. The only option I was given by the waiter was a new plate of risotto, but by the time he had come back to check on our food everyone at the table was about finished with their dinner. Five scallops on a bed of risotto (no vegetable) for $40 seemed pricey, without the risotto it was very pricey. read more

We went to Disottos for the first time and can't wait to go back! Cute ambiance inside and outside plenty of street parking. Our server was Jesus. So knowledgeable and fun! He and his team were prompt and well trained. We had a delicious Italian wine. And they serve you a tender bruchetto with olive oil dipping sauce. We ordered a crispy chicken on a homemade pasta with an amazing vodka sauce and arugula with Parmesan. Wow! So good! It was so crispy and the chicken was juicy and tender. We also got the spaghetti. The fresh pasta is delicious here. We never get desserts but tried the frittata cinnamon balls and dipped them in hot fudge and strawberry yum. Planning our next meals here. Disotto is a great Italian restaurant in Highwood. We gave Disotto a try on New Year's Eve. Thanks to being across from the Highwood Metra Station there is a lot of on street parking but Disotto also offers valet service for $5. We self parked on the street. The staff at the host stand were friendly and we were able to be seated right away thanks to our reservation. Thank goodness for that because the entry area is small so I'm not sure where we would have waited if we had to. As it was we had to a dance with some people who were coming up the stairs right behind us. Our table was downstairs in what I believe is a room used for private parties. The interior of the restaurant is designed to look like a wine cellar. Being downstairs added to the feel. When we got to the room the host offered us a two person table or a four person table. Being that we were a party of two and it was NYE I selected the table for two which turned out to be a mistake because there wasn't enough room on the table for the items we ordered and the staff wasn't great at clearing items before bringing new items out. We started our meal with the grilled Spanish octopus and drinks. The octopus was great! I would definitely order it again. My husband opted for a soft drink but I tried their mezcal cocktail which had a name I can't recall. It was enjoyable and I'd order it again. Those items were finished but the plates and glasses were still on the table when our main courses were brought out. The server had to figure out how to put the items down while also removing the dishes we were finished with. Thanks to a pizza stand the server went to retrieve there was just enough room on the table. My husband had the risotto and enjoyed it. I ordered the Italian chopped salad and prosciutto pizza. The pizza was on a thin, crisp crust and was topped with prosciutto, arugula, a sprinkle of cheese, and a swirl of a balsamic glaze. I'd definitely also order this pizza again. The chopped salad was good. There was enough for two people so I shared it with my husband. We ended our meal with dessert. There were a lot of interesting options so since it was NYE we decided each order one to share instead of our usual habit of getting one dessert to share. I ordered the tiramisu and my husband ordered the ricotta fritters. Both desserts were good but if we could only order one again it would be the fritters which came with two dipping sauces. With dessert I ordered tea. The tea pot came with a green tea but I was able to replace the green tea with black tea. The menu didn't note the type of tea served. Overall we agreed we'd return to Disotto for a date night or special occasion due to pricing which is appropriate given the quality of the food. If you are near Highwood give Disotto a try and opt for the larger table if it is offered. read more

Came in with a friend on a Monday night. The. Place was packed but luckily we were able to get a nice table tucked in the corner of the patio. We settled on splitting several dishes to maximize the menu. We started with the beet salad, which was light, perfectly dressed, and a nice balance of flavors. We moved on to Brussel sprouts which were a total miss. Over oiled and overcooked, they were basically inedible. Luckily the pasta (orichette with sausage) was a sufficient portion to satisfy us both. The complementary bites of focaccia were delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Great gem near the Metra line in Highwood. Menu has lots of great options including several kinds of pasta, branzino, scallops and several kinds of salad. Tremendous veal beef meatballs in a rustic sauce. Ultra thin crisp pizza that makes a fabulous appetizer. Light, crunchy calamari. Fresh and tasty. Service was excellent and team based. Our server Seamus was perfect. Polite and accommodating. Bustling kitchen who does a great job. Great atmosphere. My husband and I took my mom out to eat here. We arrived around 8:30pm and were able to eat comfortably without feeling rushed. The wait staff forgot our bread and mixed up our orders but made up for it with a slice of cake at the end of our meal. We ordered orecchiette, risotto, and pappardelle. The pappardelle in meat sauce felt saucy but was bland, but the mushroom risotto and orecchiette with sausage and veggies were tasty. We enjoyed a Brussels sprouts starter as well. Amazing experience! Margo and Nick, the manager, were such a joy to meet and made us feel very welcome and at home! Where to even begin... After spending the whole day at the beach, my boyfriend decided to take us to "this cute little Italian place with some phrase in Italian on the awning that I pass by every time I drive home." I was like "cool." So, with dry clothes and women's deodorant on BOTH of us, he expertly parallel parked right before the valet spots - the last open spot on that side of the road - and smartly saved us five whole dollars. Frantically unbuckling my seatbelt in an attempt to fill my stomach with delicious A talien food as fast as possible, I let viscous threats fall from my mouth. "If you don't get me food right now, I'm going to attack you and throw you in the trunk!" Just as the word "trunk" left my lips, the trunk of the car in front of us invitingly opened to us. "Wow! You must have some sort of super power," said my boyfriend. I thought nothing of it. BUT THEN! We made our way through the main door, were seated at the perfect little table (outside, but not TOO outside, y'know?) were given delicious focaccia, and a nice chilled bottle of l'aqua frizzante. Well, all day on a hot sunny beach, I was parched. But as I went to refill my glass of frizzante, I found it quite difficult to unscrew the cap of the bottle. "Man, this is kinda hard to unscrew all by myself..." SUDDENLY Margo materialized at the edge of our table, smiling wide and eager to help. She snatched the bottle from my hands, dismantled the bottle with Herculean ease, and refilled both my glass and my soul with her kind demeanor. When she vanished, we both laughed at the reappearance of my newfound superpower. "Wow, you gotta teach me how to do that!" He remarked. As the night went on, we wined, dined, and rhymed our way to a good time. Little did we know, the cosmic occurrences were only halfway through. We ordered the calamari. Not gonna lie, it was a little heavy, but still quite delicious. We thought to brighten these hearty squiddy rings with a liberal oozing of lemon jooze. HOWEVER: there was only one lemon slice left. I proclaimed (only to my boyfriend) that we could use some more lemon. Yet, in that very moment, Margo appeared AGAIN, bringing us a small dish abundant with yellow tangy, supple wedges. We thanked her, and looked at each other with MOUTHS AGAPE. It was beginning to terrify us. What else was I capable of? Am I a monster? This was getting out of hand. But we had to know the extent of my powers. The first thought I had was to manifest (through God) that Margo (and Nick) would bring out a free tiramisu for us to enjoy. My boyfriend and I laughed at the idea, and continued with our cute conversation and our delicious home-made bolognese and pesto pasta dishes. As the night drew to a close, the amazing ambience and service made us almost forget about the earlier attempt at summoning some free tiramisu. Margo charismatically came to pick up our cleaned our plates, and offered us a dessert menu, which we politely declined. "We appreciate it, but everything was delicious and we are so full." "No problem," she said with a smile, and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. We turned back to each other and kept talking, waiting for our check and our drive home. But Margo (and Nick) had other plans... "I know you said you were full..." we heard from the doorway, "but here's a piece of our delectable house made tiramisu, on us." She brought the cake, plates, and a to-go box all in one trip, so that we could "try a bite and take the rest home!" We lost our MINDS. Another A talien dinner miracle, and the final confirmation of my supernatural abilities. We laughed between bites of creamy tiramisu, said a final goodnight to the incredible, hospitable staff (and Nick), and ended our evening out in very high spirits. Definitely would recommend! Negative stars. Group of 21 on Sunday Sept 29th, for a Memorial dinner. At least 5 of us got food poisoning. Diarrhea, sharp stomach cramps, nausea - within 2 to 7 hrs after the meal. Nick, the General Manager (is he a Doctor?), was not convinced it was because of his Disotto. He even claimed that symptoms wouldn't appear until 24 hrs or more later- which is a complete falsehood. They can actually appear as soon as 30 minutes after a meal. Was telling people at the event about it the next day, and a number of local people told me they never go to Disotto because of how dirty it is. Lesson learned! read more

The food was absolutely delicious, we loved the Charcuterie plate, the pizza was some of the best we have ever had, and the carrot cake was incredible. Our waiter, Seamus, was very friendly and provided excellent service, and the ambience was very welcoming and cozy. read more
