We've visited Atlanta many times over the years when our son was younger and we had already done most of the typical tourist activities. This trip was actually our first time visiting without him so we were a little lost about what to do next. LOL. We had gone to a cafe earlier in the day but it was still too early for dinner so we kept searching for something interesting to do. That's when my husband found Distillery of Modern Art. I wasn't really in the mood for drinking during the day so I wasn't sure at first but I'm so glad we went! We had never heard of a combination of a distillery and an art gallery before which immediately caught our attention. It looked like the space is used for a variety of events as well. Since we visited during Mother's Day weekend, there was a flower arrangement workshop happening in one of the rooms when we arrived. The bar area was very spacious with plenty of seating and since it was our first visit, we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain the different liquors they produce. My husband sampled their rye whiskey, gin, and Amaro Peach. I'm usually not much of a gin fan but theirs was exceptionally smooth and I actually enjoyed it. Amaro tends to be quite bitter but their Amaro Peach had a really nice balance of bitterness and sweetness. I ordered the Ocean Eyes cocktail which features their Amaro Peach and it was excellent. The bartender also made his own special version of a classic cocktail for my husband (I forgot the name!) and he really enjoyed it. What stood out most was how friendly and passionate the bartender was. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does and honestly, he made the experience even more enjoyable for us. We had such a great visit that my husband ended up bringing home bottles of their gin and Amaro Peach. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Atlanta! read more

Beautiful space, feels industrial. They have an event space you can rent out. The art exhibit part of the distillery was nice too They rotate their drink menu, I think they said it was every season? We tried 3-4 drinks (I only took pics of 2). The ube drink is excellent, not super sweet but you can taste the ube flavor and the end is a citrus note which is nice. The other 2 drinks we had were ordered off menu after we explained to the bartender some of taste preferences. The Singapore sling was excellent as well as the other one he made. This place is great to come to if you want a date night, bougie evening or celebrate something. The ambiance is modern but beautiful that makes sure you dress for the place. The cocktails on the menu includong non alcoholic ones looked delicious. I ended up ordering Meteora which is bourbon whiskey and Ube drink. The drink was very well balanced and enjoyable. My friend ordered Golden Milk which is turmeric and coconut and that drink did not disappoint. You can also see the art gallery while carrying a drink. read more

Went here for a caviar tasting with eventful ATL. The art around this place was beautiful.Part of our event package was a ticket to get a drink at the bar. Yes! It's a beautiful venue. They have beautiful artwork. I think it's more of a bar and event space. They don't serve food but there was a food truck out back that had some amazing macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and brisket nachos! We were there for a Bourbon tasting! The drinks are interesting, crafted with care, and served impeccably. The staff was super attentive. We dropped in early on a Saturday evening. For sure check out the tour they do early in the evening when they open- there is one at 5 pm and one at 6 pm and you need to reserve in advance. We learned about the history of the distillery, how the spirits are made (including walking through the back-of-house area) as well as hearing about the many different collaborations DOMA has with other businesses- like they help a lavender farm to make a lavender that actually has the farm's label. Also- they have a rotating Art show- and you can buy the art (the artist gets all the money from the sale)! Such a fun evening and the drinks are delicious! read more

I attended the Cookery and Cocktails at DOMA event featuring a summer kebab cooking demonstration and tasting. It was such a wonderful experience. I found out about this event on the Yelp events page. The demonstration was was crafted by Chef Naina Bedwhar of Kesar Kitchen. The facility is beautiful. It's a distillery that produces several liquors and has an art gallery as well. They offer tastings and classes throughout the month. Chef Naina was extremely informative and very pleasant. She demonstrated making a chicken kebab with bazar spice blend, malai tikka kebab and mango and saffron shrikhand. Everything was phenomenal! The flavors were explosive. I learned new cooking techniques and methods as well. We made our own spice blend to take home and were given copies of the recipes. We also indulged in well crafted cocktails specifically catered for this event by the DOMA staff. I had such a great time and look forward to returning! read more

The vibe of this unique spot is really cool; welcoming as a neighborhood watering hole as well as a perfect event space. such a cool idea to feature local artwork, which only adds to the aesthetic of the building itself, which is a work of art. I attended a Boozy Book Fair event and it was great. The distillery is such a beautiful venue and a great space for events like that. To our surprise, there was also live music - our server told us the band is there every Friday night. We did not try any of the snacks/small bites, but the craft cocktails are creative and good. I think it'd be a cute place to get drinks with the girls before a night out, a date night, or just a chill place to tour and try their spirits. This is such a low key gem! You have a lot of moving parts, but they are all good moving parts though! You have the distillery... and the art... and the bar for drinks... you can just exist here and be fully immersed in everything it has to offer! The staff was super friendly and amazingly helpful. They had no problem explaining what goes into the drinks and as well as getting an opinion on what you want to specifically so I can tailor to drink towards you. They were very open and a lot of good customer service points with that. The atmospherere was super dope. It look like it didn't actually belong in this city look like it belonged in the heart of Atlanta. It was trendy and super chic. It was very clean and nice to look at inside and out. Yes they did have an outdoor seating area as well. All of the artwork was cool, they had a book fair while I was there as well. I thought that was pretty cool to have an art fair, a distillery with a bar, and a book fair lol at the same time. The cocktails I tried were the black Manhattan and a renewal. I usually gravitate toward an old fashioned but I decide to try something different. So I'm Manhattan was good and it was very potent. It's not something you can go back to back with, something that you have to take your time and sip slow. The renewal was something different I want to shake it up a little bit. It has beats in it so that threw me off lol but it was actually pretty decent. I put some habanero salt around the room just to spice it up, literally! My friend David lives in Chamblee near this business and invited me to join him to try it out. It's hidden in an industrial area behind Curry Honda. Parking is available on the street and in their small private lot. We arrived at 530pm on Saturday and it was very very hot. The patio is covered and attractive but empty during our visit. The inside dining area was half full and the bar area had two empty seats which we grabbed immediately. We loved that they didn't cram an unrealistic number of bar stools into the space and allowed for sufficient elbow room between patrons at the bar. The concept is flights of liquor featuring their own products and craft cocktails using their own liquor and ingredients. Our favorite drinks were "the marg" which had green pepper syrup and "the Chamblee cooler ". Both were inventive, complex and tasty! We also did the flight of R&D Series bourbon. It was impressive and we enjoyed it! Food was limited and primarily snacks such as cheese, crackers and charcuterie. Artwork in the gallery area was cool. It's currently from a comic artist. The staff was friendly and efficient and we had a great time meeting people at the bar. We are excited to go back for another visit!! read more

DoMA is very cool! The inside is very sleek. Love the art on display (it's for sale!), especially that they feature local artists! They switch the art out. You can rent out a room for private events. You can get cocktails, snacks, and even buy a bottle of their spirits--whiskey, gin, and vodka. Everyone we met who was working there was super friendly! Most of the cocktails are on the expensive side, ranging from $9-$18. I was expecting the drinks to be prettier, but wasn't too impressed. I got The Marg, which was made with vodka. Definitely not a typical margarita, but it was very good. I liked it better than the Chai Latte. My husband got both Old Fashioneds and he liked the Rye better than the Bourbon. Very cool spot! I've been twice. The first was when it had just recently opened and few people were inside. It is a unique premise with both set and changing art galleries + a distillery. The second time I went a small book sale event was happening in the changing gallery area. That time the service was terrible! They were clearing struggling with a busier crowd, and our friendly server could not remember to get my table of 4 our drinks for about 2 hours even though we reminded him and asked other servers. Eventually he gave me a drink which wasn't what I ordered because they were out, but I was charged the full price of the speciality cocktail I didn't receive. The menu is well-designed visually and in terms of actual content. Unique cocktail ideas and you can buy a handle to go. If they get their service together, I'm sure it will do well due to the cool concept of the place. read more

As Chamblee residents, we were super excited to finally get the chance to try the Distillery of Modern Art. We decided to sit outside as it was a beautiful night. Our waiter was SLAMMED, to the point where we never saw him in the hour and a half after we got our drink delivered. We felt bad for how busy he was and the bartender also seemed extremely overwhelmed. The drinks were alright, the peach vodka was very good but I was surprised they couldn't customize a drink given I asked for a substitution that was available and listed on their menu. Given the bill came out to $40 for two drinks (and the tip of course), we didn't feel that it was a $40 experience and probably wouldn't return. read more

It truly pains me to write this, but after the tears shed, I need to share my experience to move on. I am a former artist of the Watson Gallery and had a great experience showcasing my work. The staff was friendly, and the space was beautiful. My husband (then fiancé) and I chose DoMA for our wedding because of this connection. For six months, we planned with Becky Sowemimo, who was incredible--responsive, accommodating, and went above and beyond. She even helped us during an ice storm to ensure we could do our walkthrough. Minnie and Nicole were also kind and respectful to our guests. Becky and her team worked with my sisters to plan what should have been a beautiful reception, but due to poor communication decisions made by Henry Rosenbaum, my husband and I did not get that experience. We booked from 11 AM to 7 PM, yet when we arrived, neither the gallery nor the bridal room (where I was supposed to get dressed) was ready. Instead of having time to prepare for my wedding, we had to wait for DoMA's team to clear chairs from the ceremony space and bridal room--majorly setting us back. We were assured nothing else was scheduled earlier, yet our spaces should have been fully ready at 11 AM, not being prepped while we stood there waiting. This was the most embarrassing part of my wedding: I had spent months raving about the distillery, only for guests to later tell me they overheard Henry--within earshot--openly discussing how our wedding had gone over time and that there could be an additional charge if we didn't clear out. Instead of informing me--the contract holder--he had this conversation with someone outside our wedding party. As a result, my guests felt like they were being asked to leave immediately, even though we had been assured in planning that we could transition into the bar area after the reception. During planning, we had concerns about how many hours to book. Ironically, Russell reassured us by saying, "When the wedding is over, feel free to hang out in the main bar. If you're not 100% broken down by 7 PM, it's not like we would kick you out." We planned accordingly, yet that's exactly how my guests felt - kicked out. Because of the morning delays, our schedule shifted. Had someone come to me and said, "You are running over; here's the option to extend," I could have handled it. Instead, guests began leaving in the middle of what was supposed to be a joyful moment. The bar service was another disappointment. Our guests were given drink tickets, yet the bartenders inconsistently collected them. This led to my sister being wrongly charged $750--despite our bar tab being fully paid per our contract. Worse, my sister was not authorized to make payments, yet the charge was processed without consulting me. After the wedding, I went to DoMA hoping for accountability but was met with indifference. I even had to physically bring my contract. When I asked why I wasn't informed about going over time, Henry simply said they "typically don't bother the bride or groom." How was letting my reception be disrupted better than pulling me aside? Throughout planning, I was open, appreciative, and excited about this venue. So how did we get here? When I asked Henry, he had no clear answer--other than claiming they only speak to the person listed on the contract. Ironically, that person was me. And because no one spoke to me, here we are. There's more I could say, but honestly, it's painful to relive. I'm not here to bash DoMA, but if I don't share this, I may never be able to fully see my wedding day for the beautiful moment it should have been, despite the heartbreak. At the very least, I just wanted an apology. Or my security deposit, which I never got back. I received neither. If you book here, be extremely clear about who should be contacted for anything time-sensitive or contract-related. Otherwise, you risk experiencing what we did--even though the lack of accountability ultimately falls on DoMA. read more

Two old men walk into a bar.... And they disappear. I loved the TV show "The Invisible Man" when I was a kid. I got to live out my fantasy last night when I entered the Distillery of Modern Art. The two ladies behind the bar were unable to see us as we walked in and sat right in front of them, an arms length away. The owner will remember that I exaggerated our wait time and apologized to him for doing so, however, instead of discussing what had happened to us, I let him go about his busy night. His, after all, was the only attention we got as we sat in front of what turned out to be his bar manager for long stretches of time being ignored. He could have sold us more drinks had the service been even slightly better. Should the owner decide to review the video from last night he can see that he is the only one to acknowledge us (IN ANY WAY) after we had sat for quite sometime (the other gentleman behind the bar did eventually stop by a couple of times before we left). He will see that the water glass initially in front of me is not mine, but that of a previous patron. He will see a long stretch of time before I good naturedly chided the nice bartender into serving me another Topo Chico that I had asked for, but apparently was forgotten. He will see that a few minutes before we leave I stand up to stretch, I dig into my wallet and pull out a $50 bill for the tip (because in some way I was perversely enjoying the bad treatment). He'll see that I thought better of it and just left a $20 (nearly 100% tip because we just weren't able to buy much) instead out of common decency. Very strange. Our friend, Ruichi's ensemble was fantastic through out this twilight zone sequence. Thank goodness for that. read more

What a great spot for some great drinks & a fun atmosphere. Came here for drinks after dinner & had a great experience. Live music, great list of cocktails with house-made spirits & mixers. The mule with their peach vodka was so yummy! They showcase different local artists & have a small gallery you can walk through while sipping on cocktails. I love the art they have on the inside of the spirit bottles. We bought a bottle of their vodka to take home. They've got a menu of snacks & charcuterie you can have with drinks. I came in a Friday night with my hubby. There was a jazz ensemble playing/singing that provided nice background music. It was our first time here so I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't busy at all. The bartenders were super nice and attentive, one of them even told us how he came up with one of their new Fall drinks. We enjoyed our drinks which were decently priced. This place is soooo cool and combines 2 of my favorite things: art and cocktails. It is definitely a must if you are in Chamblee! They have rotating art pieces to enjoy from local artists but the vibe is not stuffy or pretentious at all. All of the bartenders were super friendly and the cocktails are delicious. I was completely blown away by the "shot and a beer" which is a shot of honey cinnamon corn whiskey and a tonic drink that tastes very much like a beer and a shot of fireball but 1000x better! We came here after reading about this place in a magazine. This was such a shock, as I did not even know it even existed. Taking a tour of the art and the vast number of craft cocktails that they served were such a surprise. You can also sit down with your company and enjoy the wonderful vibe that they showcase. Not only is this distillery churning out amazing craft liquor - the building and its contents, as the name suggests, are works of art. From the complex workings of the column still, to the bottling room, the event space, the art gallery, the bar, and the exterior and interior signage..no detail has been forgotten. The level of intention paired with creativity and an eye for design...are all truly exceptional.
