First time I visited this salon was November 2020 and I'm from out of state. Despite being quoted a price of $60 for a hair cut and $95 for color of partial highlights when I scheduled a same day appt, the cost at the end of the service was $294, which represents more than a 55% increase. After explaining to the stylist the approximate price originally quoted, the cost was reduced by only $20. There was no discrepancy on the original price quoted as the stylist admitted she needed to better educate her colleague who answers the phone and who provided the original price quote. Also, the stylist, a tier 1, commented she should have explained the significant cost increase after initially assessing my hair. I then visited a high end Salon in Scottsdale, AZ, to check its prices for the color and cut by a tier 1 stylist. I was quoted a price of approximately $150-$175. It appears I was the victim of severe price gauging. While I liked my cut and color, the business did not honor the original price quote and did not rectify the error in a reasonable was as a reputable business would. read more

I have been coming to this salon for 3 years now and finally I got around to write this. Ashley and her team are freaking amazing!!! I come here every two weeks to get a haircut and never once have I had a bad experience. I remember my first day and I am a little picky who cuts my hair. I don't like change but moving to phx I had to get a new place. So I found this place on Yelp and I figured I would give it a try. Well I have never looked back. Everyone here is beyond nice and make you feel like a special client not matter how long you have been going each person is treated the same. This review is specifically for David Guzman, to whom I have gone many times over the years. I guess I'm a little conflicted about reviewing him here and making it even more difficult to get an appointment, but he really does deserve the praise. David has done several different styles for me in the past, and he always starts with a detailed consultation to ensure that we understand each other, which I think is a great way to go about business for anyone -- especially a stylist, where you will rarely find such a quality. More than once, I recall, he even politely disagreed with my opinion of what to do when changing my haircut. He then thoughtfully explained why his idea was better for the way my hair grows and he was right. I appreciate this kind of feedback immensely since I trust him as the professional. May I please have 6 stars for this??!! I walked in with no appt. late, really late Sat. afternoon, with a DISASTER of hair I'd tried to color at home. Dark brown, almost black in front, nasty blondish orange streaks all over, and I was almost in tears. I lucked into Ashley, owner and MASTER stylist and colorist. "Sure," she said, "no problem, we can fix this easily." And she did. She stayed late, her work was METICULOUS, and I walked out with the best hair color ever. EVER. I was really pleased that there was no heavy push on product, and I felt totally comfortable in her hands. It was so obvious that she knew exactly what she was doing. AND she said they offer bang trims GRATIS!!! I am in the process of moving my offices back into metro Phoenix from the far East Valley, and this will be my hair's new home! read more

Majorie is a QUEEN. She has been doing my eyelash and eyebrow tints since I moved to the PHX area. She's quick when working and so sweet. The treatment is soothing and doesn't sting my eyes at all, which has happened at salons in the past. Prices are super reasonable. I found this salon via Yelp and decided to give it a try even though it wasn't the most highly rated. It is close to my house and I am still figuring my way around this new-to-me city. They are super slow on monday's so I was the only customer they had the entire two hours I was there. I requested a manicure and pedicure with the shellac nail polish. Their polish selections were extremely limited in shellac which is hurting their business badly because other salons I have been to in the past (in UT) have a TON of shellac color options. They didn't have anything close to what I wanted so I went with a red in the shellac for my hands and a dark vampy purple OPI for my toes. The girl helping me was super super sweet and fun to talk to but its very obvious how inexperienced she was. I asked her how long she had been doing nails and she said "..a year". Thats not too bad and I know going to school for nails isn't a treat either so I know she has worked hard to get where she is at BUT... BUT BUT BUT if I am going to spend $90 (after tip) on my nails, they better be immaculate! I wasn't exactly happy about being there for almost two hours and my finished product is mediocre at best. I would have MUCH rather spent that money taking my man out to dinner or setting it aside to buy new furniture. After this experience, I may only get a mani and pedi on special occasions. I could have painted my nails better with a polish at home. I'm super bummed about this because I work really hard and to spend $90 on something I am so unhappy with just sucks. I left without saying anything because I plan on emailing the company just to let them know how I feel. For nails, I wouldn't recommend this place and I won't be going back there. read more

I've been going to this salon for a little over 5 years now to Leeann my stylist. I absolutely love her and can say that Distictive is probably one of the best places I've ever had my hair cut. The staff is always friendly and in a good mood. They are always having a good time while working and are fun to chat with while I'm waiting or even in my chair getting cut. Leeann is hands down a super rock star. She is always on her game and gives me the exact cut that I'm looking for every time. I love her shoulder massages almost as much as the haircut itself. She is very informative and is always willing to teach me new things or techniques for me to use at home to get my hair looking like it does when I walk out of the salon. She's worth every penny no question. Don't listen to the 1 star review for someone who went to a hair salon to get her nails done and didn't even experience the full service cut and style. This salon changed my life! Blond ladies I have finally found an actual blond specialist after 17 years in the valley. My sister has been seeing Margie at this salon for 6 years. She convinced me to book an appointment with Margie after having another horrifying experience at another salon. Margie not only gave me the best haircut I have ever had but she actually completely color corrected my hair and created the most beautiful platinum blond hair. I have had my hair ruined sooooooo many times by stylists pretending they are blond specialists. Margie is absolutely amazing and knows what she is doing. She has a great personality and i had a great time chatting with her. She knew i needed to have my hair done at a certain time so she came in early just to accomodate me. The salon is very relaxing and the people are very nice and laid back also. My experience start to finish was nothing but the best. I have been to a million different salons in my day and this salon felt like going to the spa, it was lux. Margie gave me a shoulder, head, hand massage and tea tree oil scalp treatment. After she colored my hair I got the botanical treatment which I highly recommend. My hair is soft, healthy and feels amazing after the color treatment which never happens when you are a blond. I came here because I love Aveda and whenever I go to an Aveda salon my scalp doesn't hurt during or after my visit and my hair becomes thicker and healthier than with any other product out there. I had taken my daughter here several months back to get a short haircut. Marjorie cut her hair for $45.00 and did a decent job so last week I took my daughter back to see her. I dropped my daughter off at the salon and later after picking her up she gavie me a receipt for an $80.00 haircut, plus a 16.00 tip. I am not sure why the increase in price, and to be fair I should have checked to see what she was going to charge, but to charge a person $80.00 for a trim that only took 30 minutes is ludicrous. Common sense would have been to charge less given what had to be done or, at a minimum, to forewarn a client that there has been an increase in price. We won't be returning to the salon, there are many hairdressers out there that are just as good and don't charge half that price. read more

The hair dresser David is phenomenal, but even his amazing work is making me reconsider going to him anymore because of THE SALON!!! It is suppose to be an Aveeda salon and it feels nothing like being in an Aveeda salon. There is a hairdresser there that is so obnoxious I want to scream. Her voice and the things that come out of her mouth are unprofessional and unethical. I cannot lister to her bash, gossip, whine, complain, and share how she works the system...who she likes...who she hates...blah, blah, blah. I am 56 years old and I have been around many a salon and never had I experienced any place that would tolerate this. I sought out an aveeda salon because they stood for peace, harmony, nature, and calmness. I have spoken to my hairdresser and we have tried to make my appointments around her schedule, but it does not always work and/or she changes her schedule unexpectedly. Then I told the receptionist area and they handed me the email of the owner and this is why I am now on Yelp, because she did not answer me nay or yay. So sad. read more

I first went in to this salon looking for an Aveda product about a year ago. I have been back several times in the past year. My mom and my sister and several co-workers are now hooked also. We only see David Guzman. He goes above and beyond to accommodate my schedule, he is very talented, I have never left disappointed. He always does a thorough consultation before starting on my hair, he really listens to what I want done and is extremely meticulous. You can tell that he genuinely likes what he does and takes his job very serious. I have been to other salons such as Dolce, Toni & Guy, Rumors, and haven't found someone that does such a great job along with such reasonable prices! That's almost the best part, the prices! So I called to say I was running late for an appointment. She tells me that I've called the Mesa location and that calls were getting forwarded to that location. Meanwhile, someone from the salon calls and leave me a voicemail and says if I don't show in four minutes that it will cancel my appointment and I have to reschedule. The nice stylist at the Mesa location texts the stylist at the Phoenix location to tell her that we're on our way and assures us that it will be a problem. But, when we arrived, they told us that the stylist had already left for the day. Then They said, we tried calling you. I said yes, you were calling me while I was attempting to call you but got forwarded to the Mesa location to tell you that I was running late. So I wasted my time driving all the way there only to find out that an appointment was never going to happen. Huge waste of time. Don't bother going to this place. read more

David is a magician and turned my messy, dry and damaged hair into a gorgeous and on-trend look. He was thoughtful and really took the time to assess the shape my hair was in. He recommended a Botanical deep conditioning treatment which left my hair so soft. Bonus* I got an amazing hand massage while waiting for it to absorb. Talk about a treat! He asked how I felt about a shaved undercut because it would take some weight off my VERY thick hair. He wasn't pushy about it and really wanted me to be comfortable with the idea. Turns out, I love it!! It is so much more manageable now and shaves time off my daily routine... also it looks super cute when I wear it up! All the prior reviews about Ashley are true - she is a master at her craft and extremely skilled. I felt at ease in her chair and left feeling so happy with my cut and color I couldn't stop smiling! She really took the time to understand my current style process and challenges with my hair and suggested techniques and products that might work for me and my lifestyle. The hand and head massages felt so great, and I was offered water and their signature AVEDA tea. I had inquired about her schedule for the day (I was her first client of the morning, or "guest" as they call you) and she admitted it was going to be a long one for her with back to back appointments for the entire remainder of the day at their Mesa location. However, I felt the level of care, precision, and attention she gave me was as if I was her only client that entire day. The salon atmosphere was bright and clean and the stylists were friendly, joking with one another, and helping each other with cuts and styles - it felt like a very positive environment. They also all had incredible hair themselves...which is usually a good sign! The only downside was the price, but I am a firm believer that you often get what you pay for and in this case I certainly feel that I did! Also as a note, some people might be put off by the tendency to recommend products and perceive it as pushy but I personally did not at all. I love trying new products and especially love AVEDA products, so I was kind of expecting to purchase at least one product there. I also enjoyed learning more about the different AVEDA product lines available and will likely try more of them in the future. Bottom line - I'll be back here for sure and will be recommending this place to anyone that wants an amazing salon experience and fabulous hair. read more
