Of course, the first person that I went to was my Best Friend but as much as she felt for me she couldn't handle it. I tried 2 other salons in person because just talking about it over the phone wasn't enough so I physically went into 2other salons & no go! I just got my hair done this morning at Honeycomb. I brought in a photo of what I wanted (something with different colors and a new process). I left with EXACTLY what I wanted. Ambur is amazing! I recently booked with her for a loc maintainence session and I was so impressed! I've been searching for YEARS for a talented loctician who can work on straight-hair locs and she's the real deal. Not only is she very professional and talented, but she's also kind and creates a comfortable environment for her client. I have a ton of hair, and the appointment took 5 hours, but she never rushed or pulled my hair. My locs look and feel beautiful, and no scalp irritation due to too-tight roots. Last but not least, she is really committed to leaving her client happy. Due to the nature of all the work my locs needed we weren't able to finish in the allotted appointment time but she very graciously extended the appointment in order to finish my hair. So grateful. I hate writing a bad review, but in these times of financial struggle it makes a difference where you spend your money. It matters if you don't get what you paid for, and worse if you get treated badly while getting ripped off. This is a bit of a long review - sorry - a few things happened that need explanation. Bottom line for those in a hurry - don't go to this salon unless you want to be ripped off and treated like crap! If you want more details, keep reading. Such is the case for me with Honeycomb. I'd heard about the salon for years and as someone sensitive to hair chemical products, this place was about my last shot for what I hoped would be a good salon with good product. My stylist was Sarah. The bio on the website made her seem like she'd be knowledgeable and customer service oriented. I mean she worked in New York and did celebrities hair (or so it says). My only trip there was eventful. About an hour and 1/2 into my visit, a car literally drove into the building and crashed the business next door, about 5 feet from the front door of Honeycomb. This upset and distracted the 4 of us in the salon and took up a lot of time from my visit as Sarah spent a lot of time trying to deal with the people in the accident. My consult with her was a bit lengthy. I have some history with my hair and health, and she had a lot of questions. At one point she made a snappy comment about needing to decide what we would do and get started. No problem - hey you are the one controlling the session as the stylist so take control if you have a problem. I agreed to do one of the treatments she suggested, to help the color take better, but at the wash bowl she made her own decision not to do it. When I asked about it, she wouldn't say why. I was there for a partial and add'l color for gray. She would not do the color w/o me doing a 24 hr skin test due to my sensitivities. Ok, I understand that but I made it clear that I needed to get the gray covered. Maybe she should have suggested I come back when we could do it all - the right way. End result - I walked out with my hair looking EXACTLY the same as when I walked in (like sh*t), but my wallet was MUCH lighter. 3 inches of demarcation showing and all, couldn't tell I had anything done to my hair. I got a snarky comment at the end about her being 15 min late for her next appointment. Hey Sarah - you were 15 min late for MY appointment and I didn't say a word about that. What about the 30-45 min you spent dealing with the unusual car accident? Don't blame the customer and try to make me feel bad for those things. Plus she dropped color on me when she ran out to help the car accident people. Hey - thanks. The biggest problem of all here is that I've spoken to Sarah since and asked her if she could fix my hair since it appears no color took. She was cold, aloof, and basically said she'd fix it for FULL price. What?? Seriously? I've never had such a horrible reaction from a stylist or a salon in 30 years of getting my hair done professionally. On top of this, she charged me way more than the price listed on the board for a partial or even a full highlight, but wouldn't explain why. I let it go and still tipped her 20%. When I got home and dried my hair, I realized I had essentially been ripped off. Sarah also made a big deal of my long consult and said she normally charges for consults. I've have never been charged for a consult in connection with getting a service done. Maybe this is where the 'extra' charge for my color comes from. Who knows. Sarah was unwilling to budge and was completely unaccommodating. NO customer service with this one. The whole time I tried to be pleasant and understanding, but this treatment is ridiculous. I asked for the salon owner to call me to discuss further - guess what - she never called me. This salon needs to come with a warning - they are greedy and are looking to make money w/o providing quality service. If you have a problem with a service - forget about compromise - you won't find it here. I'm making it my goal to fight this to the nth degree. I'm tired of getting ripped off. I don't make a lot of money in my job. I feel like I walked in to a salon, was robbed of $135.00 and told to get the heck out. Please don't go to this salon if you want to be treated properly, especially for the prices they charge and the lack of quality you will receive. read more

I'm one of those people who goes way too long in between cuts. And when I do get one, it costs less than $20. But I know that you get what you pay for so I did a Yelp search for nearby salons and was thrilled when I found an organic salon! I read reviews beforehand--all of them, in fact. I was a bit nervous because of the lady who had poor service. So I called and had my questions answered so that there would be no surprises. (The $25 consultation is for dreadlocks and stuff). Anyway, I presented several photos to my stylist, Alicia. She washed and straightened my hair and when we were done (two hours later!!!) my hair looked absolutely nothing like the photos, in fact, I put it in a ponytail immediately because I hated it. I was already there for two hours and realized it wasn't going to get any better any time soon. She then says it's an additional $10 because SHE went over an hour. Um, excuse me? What did I do to make you work painstakingly slow? What was I going to do, argue about the $10? I signed the receipt and reluctantly tipped her but I did leave feeling ripped off. Not because of the $75 I spent but because I didn't walk out of there looking or feeling fabulous. The three stars are because the salon is cute, they use organic products and I didn't get a lecture about the state of my hair. Update: When I got home and properly did my hair I like it and it felt great for days. So in summary, good haircut, good products but takes too long and beware of the hidden fees. read more

I'm pretty terrible to my hair and had not had a cut in forever. My boyfriend decided it was time for an intervention and bought me a gift certificate. I finally set up an appointment and was afraid I'd get a lecture on the state of my hair, but Sarah was great through the whole process. She had great suggestions and made sure I was comfortable with each step before she moved on. Everyone was very nice and everything smelled so good--I did not miss the harsh chemical scents from other salons. I was expecting a really big hit to my wallet with such a great cut and color but was surprised to find a much lower price! Alicia is AMAZING. I came in with major split ends and an awkwardly growing out undercut. She blended everything together PERFECTLY, listened to my wants and needs, and left me looking a hundred times sexier! I don't go to salons as often as I should, since it's hard for me to come up with the money each month - but she provided EXCELLENT service, an incredible cut, and at an unbeatable price. The salon itself is fantastic, too - not too cold/hot, nice background music, clean and organized. All the products smell amazing, and I'm put at ease knowing they're not putting nasty things like lye or ammonia or whatever on my hair. I'll definitely be a returning customer. Autumn did an amazing job with my hair. I couldn't be happier! She spent a ton of time talking to me about the style I wanted and all of the different options and what they would look like now (and a couple of months from now). She did a hair strand test to figure out the protein/moisture in my hair and make better product recommendations. And she gave me a fabulous haircut. A hidden gem. The space has great design, light and music, weird parking, experienced and artistic stylists, and cool shit to read and look at. Their dedication to sustainable practices is legit, with a bag-less policy (no plastic or paper), fair product and other things that support my claim of it being legit. From the instant I walked into the salon, I was overwhelmed by the great energy of every stylist in the shop. My stylist, Sarah, actually booked sufficient time for what I wanted (color correction) and didn't try to push products or services I ddin't need. Not only that, she did a fantastic job repairing a botched color job I'd received elsewhere. I've already gotten so many positive compliments on my hair, which looked like refried rainbow vomit when I walked in there. She was extremely meticulous in her work and is obviously an outstanding talent in the area -- actually, in all the cities I've lived in, I haven't found such a talented colorist. Sarah was a great conversationalist throughout our appointment and I felt comfortable in her hands. I'm so thankful my friend recommended Sarah. My folios today appointment was on Mon Fen 3. I was early but Ambur took me right in. She was quick to welcome me and really heard what I wanted. I plan on goIng back and Highly recommend Ambur. I have wavy hair and asked her to dry cut my hair. I wanted to try subtle highlights. She delivered everything I asked for products she were gentle to my hair. I absolutely love this place! They use organic, vegan, and gluten-free products - perfect for the conscientious hair lover :-) the studio is adorable and the staff are really nice. The owner is Ambur and she is really, really good - one of the best people to ever cut my hair. I love that she is passionate about using all natural and cruelty free products, which is why I started going here. The shop is open Wednesdays through Sundays and Ambur is so popular that she often books weeks in advance! If you call, leave a message and they'll call you back, I have never had a problem getting in touch with someone to make an appointment! The price is good - I think I paid about $55 for my last haircut and it took her about 50 minutes to finish. I walked out of there feeling like 1 million bucks! read more

She is also clearly very instinctive when it comes to hair; since I have curly, thick hair, it's hard to find a stylist who can adapt to that and work with it, but Autumn did a great job. I really cannot say enough awesome things about this salon. I find the chemical fumes in most salons to encourage vomiting. Not here. So unless you are looking to lose your lunch, your search is over. It actually smells nice. Nonpoisonous. Can you imagine? All of the stylists are super nice. I love this salon, Sarah WORKED my hair!! She listened to my needs, had wonderful suggestions, and she took her time. My hair has never felt so good after adding blonde. I'm actually pregnant and the traditional salon fumes (especially ammonia) were making me gag!! But not at Honeycomb! Not only did everything smell pleasant (even the actual dye smelt good!!) I had a great experience at this salon! I really wanted to dye my hair red, and had been to about three other salons to try to get the color I wanted. Every single stylist tried to be very subtle, to the point where I could barely tell I'd gotten my hair colored. Finally, I decided to try Honeycomb, and the stylist, Sarah, was the first to understand exactly what I was going for. I've been looking for a new hairdresser since I moved here and so happy I found this place! I've been so reluctant to try someone new due to a long history of mostly bad experiences then the past 15 years with one hairdresser I loved. It's so hard finding someone to trust. My hair is extremely long and fine blonde with highlights. It's challenging to work with to say the least. But then I saw Amra here and she took the time to really listen and rather than being overconfident gave realistic feedback of what she was and wasn't sure about. She was gentle with my hair and also talented. She didn't rush but rather took the time to explain everything she wanted to do and planned it out in a couple stages. I love the result! I'm so happy to have a great new hairdresser and the products are organic to boot. Having professional experience in my field with the toxic effects of the chemicals in many hair products, I'd almost considered going all natural to avoid them until I found Honeycomb.
