The eggs, pancakes, potatoes, and meats were cold, collard greens needed seasoning and to be cooked a tad longer. Worst of all the chocolate bread pudding was mushy/soggy. My Manhattan was decent while their signature Bluegrass left much to be desired despite it being "spirit forward" per our waitress. While the fries and oysters were very much worth the money, I'd steer clear of the deviled eggs. Poorly presented with runny filling. Having sat outside, the indoor seating did look enticing enough to warrant a possible second visit to try more of the HH or regular menu. Fun, lively place and creative menu (just super tiny portions) - still, great way to be introduced to the menu. My daughter loved their version of deviled eggs - had sriracha and a hint of heat. I've been here twice with friends and I'd have to say it's a really great place for large groups of people. Make sure you reserve a space ahead of time, it was a Thursday around 4pm and all group spaces were reserved except for one. Happy hour includes $5 well drinks, discounts on certain beers, and $1 oysters. Our group also ordered Lamb Meatballs, Arancini balls, and a couple pizzas. The DJ is great for brunch and first Fridays (maybe he's there every Friday?). The drinks are really good. The bartender we had today was so nice; I would come back just for him. The food is good too, but I won't be back for brunch. It's a buffet and the quality you would expect from a buffet. But there is no fucking excuse for soupy ass grits! Don't disrespect grits like that. The people in the kitchen are lucky I didn't go back there to box them for those damn grits. Normally, I don't write reviews, but I'm as shocked with the lack of customer service. When I approached this establishment, there was no sign explaining do we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. The bartender saw us then proceeded to check on all the other customers except myself. The bartender was not kind. When asked about our seating arrangement instead of giving our drinks, so they simply told us that the drinks will come to us. And it was another 15 minutes before we received them. This is a review of the NYE Prix fixe dinner. My wife and I were a little sheepish when we walked into the restaurant which seems like a cross between a sports bar and lounge rather than a restaurant. We were both glad we didn't turn around even though we sat under the sole large flat screen TV. Luckily the audio was turned off so it was not a problem for us. The food is totally legit. We got there during happy hour and took advantage of the $1 oysters which were fantastic. served with sides of horseradish and vinaigrette. The first of five courses was the parsnip and chestnut soup. OMG it was so rich and full of flavor, Had just the right thickness not brothy. I hope they have it on their regular menu. Being GF we had the Bay scallops which were perfectly cooked with a mushroom and cream sauce. I had to eat the entire course, my wife brought hers home since it was a full portion. Then my wife had the petrale sole and I had the beef tenderloin. Both were perfectly cooked. My wife had the Pot de creme and I had a trio of ice creams. The three were full scoops, not just a few tablespoons. The most memorable was the ancho caramel. What a genius combination. A blend with a little heat with the sweet caramel. Wow a must have again. Another try: I went to District Oakland last night to celebrate my boyfriend's new job. We were served by a fabulous waitress named Keiva... She was extremely sweet and hospitable. She was a 5 star waitress, and she had no idea that I was re-visiting District with a skeptical eye. The short rib pizza was delicious! Tip: you don't have to, but you can make reservations for a party of 2 if you'd like! Caught the last 15 mins of happy hour (ends at 6p for M-F). $1 oysters: yes they're small but it did the job of filling us up! $6 bellini: just right for a summertime drink! Then we had the dinner menu starting at 6p: Burrata: as other reviewers noted it was runny. I enjoyed it, I just like cheese of any kind. Big fat toast came with it, so I was happy! Short rib pizza: lots of toppings, great pizza dough. But it wasn't memorable for some reason. I would try it again. I liked the mushroom pizza the most, from when I came here last. Bar hopping last night led us to our second stop, District. We arrived around 5:30ish and found seating in the lounge area. Our server took our order and we squeezed in on a couch in the corner until more space opened up. We were in time for happy hour and ordered Bellinis, well drinks, the short ribs pizza, fries, and dollar oysters. The pizza was ok but I wish we would've ordered more oysters, they were delicious! The fries were delicious as well and I wish I'd ordered more Bellinis. They were pretty good! I have many happy memories of this place. Great appetizers and cocktails. They have $1 oysters for happy hour and they are always fresh and delicious. They serve a lot of cool condiments with them that are fun to try and are taste tantalizing. If you never had raw oysters before, this is a good place to try it first, because they are small and mild. I also highly recommend their deviled eggs. I am not crazy about their chicken wings...that is one dish I would not recommend. They have a large selection of wines and the waiters really know what their stuff in case you need help choosing the right drink for your mood. I don't remember the last review I wrote. I'm generally not really a complainer. It's a good reminder though that I should go on Yelp to give positive feedback more often, since that is mostly what I have to offer. We are long time customers of The District. We couldn't wait to come back and have Sunday Brunch once Covid was behind us. Sadly, it was the single most disappointing experience I have had in a very, very long time. We were there close to when it opened. There were very few customers when we arrived. Outdoors there were lots of tables with reserved signs on them. I remembered thinking how great that was as my partner works in the restaurant industry, and I know first hand how difficult Covid has been. We sat inside at the bar as we didn't have reservations, but also it's our preference, so win-win. The smaller issue was Immediately obvious. The mask rules were not clear. It was very confusing. I guess the rule in tbe end was that if you came indoors at all, you kept your mask in any time not seated. Staff was not modelling this. Some staff were wearing masks, others were not. Signs probably would have been helpful. But again, this was a small, and not surprising issue given the times. The buffet, also not surprisingly, was a no go. We were disappointed, but understood. I ordered biscuits and gravy. My spouse ordered a burger. I got my order and she told me to start so it didn't get cold. It was an ok meal...not as good as buffet items pre-covid. Then, we waited on her order. I finished my meal. We continued to wait... Half an hour....an hour. My partner started conversing with another guest and was given a second mimosa on the house, and was well distracted, which was lucky all around. She finally received her burger...burnt through. We sent it back and continued to wait. I watched burger after burger go by to a now completely full outdoor eating area. I finally complained with some firmness, which is not something I do as a general rule. Long story short, she got her burger at the 1.75 hour mark. we left 2.5 hours after our arrival. To be fair, the bartender was very apologetic ( though it wasn't really his fault). My partner also ended up drinking a few free mimosas, and the meal was entirely comped. Clearly there were not enough staff for a rather extended outdoors area and direction in the kitchen clearly was also off. I think my biggest issue is that once a burger that took an hour to make was sent back a crispy black piece of coal, ( I'm not at all exaggerating), honestly the kitchen should have prioritized a new order, but most definitely did not. I do understand the slow to hire back process, hiring as the PTL warrants it, but then the seating should be more limited and the higher ups should be on the floor assisting and directing. I usually am the one in our couple to cringe and want to slide under the table as my spouse, who works in the restaurant industry and knows more about what should be happening and is not, starts to make a complaint. I'm not ever the person complaining. And she usually has a far shorter willing to wait window than me. But this was truly completely outside the normal wait time window at all. The whole experience was mind numbing. An entirely wasteful three hours of my Sunday. She met a new friend. I did work on my phone. But as Sunday is our only day together...that pretty much sucked. read more

Honestly to me service is everything and it was such a hectic experience I do not see myself coming back in the foreseeable future. We got a very new server that just couldn't get it together. She just kept forgetting our table to the point that we had to flag other employees down to order and get our check. We gave her multiple chances but I guess she was just overwhelmed and kept forgetting. At the end of dinner we told her we were missing a side and her response was odd " I took it off your check already." But why would you do that if I just told you about it that very moment. It was like is that why we didn't get it or is she getting us mixed up with another table. I would be very careful when paying with a credit card because I had a waitress by the name of Torii (according to my receipt) added herself a tip to my receipt. I had a feeling she seemed a little fraudulent, so I kept my copy and reviewed my statement. I contacted the management staff, they responded to my email but haven't heard back since. I contacted my bank and disputed the entire amount since they want to tamper with signed credit-card receipts. That is not a good way to do business, and I will not be back here again. I wanted to go to the Mexican restaurant nearby for brunch, but sadly they were closed on Sundays. Luckily, District was about to open. My sorority sister and I sat at the bar because we were briefed that there would be a 90 minute turnaround since we didn't make reservations. Sitting at the bar was fine with us because the bartender was really nice. The food was pretty good for a buffet (which is $22pp; $35 for bottomless mimosas). There were cheesy grits, salad, shrimp ceviche, biscuits and gravy, chicken sausage, scrambled eggs, chipotle potatoes, pancakes with a banana syrup, fried plantains, and chocolate-chip bread pudding. There were a few more items, but these are the ones I tried. I wish I had a bigger stomach because I would've got seconds of each. They were all delicious, especially the chipotle potatoes, eggs, the plantains, and the bread pudding. The bartender said it was unusually slow when we dined there. We got there right when they opened at 11, and left around 12:30, and it hadn't picked up. I can see that if was busy, it would be a louder environment, and it might take longer to get food.
