Chico & Leon showed up on time and when we arrived at the destination, the parking permit signs had been ignored and cars were parked right in front of our new townhouse. However, Chico did a great job of attending to the move as well as directing all the traffic since the truck was blocking our one way street. This was my first time using professional movers, and District Relocators was great for my move within DC! I requested and online quote for moving from a studio to a 2-bedroom and Holley called me within an hour to explain all the details to me. It was the best quote I received from the 5+ companies I contacted. Holley even put a hold on a move-in date/time while I finalized with my building management for both the building I was moving out of and the one I moved into. After confirming the move I had to change the time slightly because of my building's elevator usage times, and this was no problem. The day before the move, Holley called to confirm that the movers would be coming at the assigned time. Shawn and a team of movers that came they were INCREDIBLY FAST! I was shocked at how quickly and carefully they were able to wrap my furniture, pack everything into the truck, unload at the new apartment, and unwrap my furniture. I cannot speak more highly of District Relocators. I've used them twice now and each time the price was good and the service was outstanding. We priced several moving companies before choosing them last time and they were far and away the most reasonable. And while I had kind of expected the first time we called that a good price would mean mediocre service, I couldn't have been more wrong. The crew that they sent over to us both times, Hakim and his guys, were so very careful with our stuff and extremely polite. Plus, they didn't add any of the last-minute extra charges that suddenly crop up when you work with other moving companies. I'd also add they were very quick. We had an entire 1-bedroom full of furniture and stuff moved from our old place to our new within a couple hours. Moving is awful, this we all can agree. But District Relocators made it a lot less awful. The group was set to arrive between 9am-10am. I received a call around 9:20, apologizing for the lateness (what!) and advising they were about 5 minutes away. As soon as they got there, the gentlemen got to work. The worst moving experience I have ever had. Do not use this company. They moved me in July, damaged most of my furniture and lost some of my boxes. My most recent move in late January was a breeze with the movers showing up early, with the right equipment, and quickly but carefully packing and unloading my belonging from the truck. Short Version: District Relocators lost one of my boxes and damaged my mattress. Corey from District Relocators told me via email he would reimburse me $250 for the missing box. I never received a check from them and they will not respond to my calls or emails. If you are going to use this company please be aware that if there are any issues with your move you will not be compensated for them and there is basically zero customer service after your move. Long Version: District Relocators facilitated a move for me in October of 2014. The move itself was what I expected from an inexpensive moving company. The movers showed up late after being stuck in traffic, but the move itself was pretty quick since everything was packed up nicely. The other end of the move was a bit of a fiasco, not really at the fault of the movers. My car wouldn't start so I had to call AAA to get a new battery delivered. Luckily my girlfriend was able to metro down from MD to DC to meet the movers at our new apartment as I was waiting. Our mattress was delivered with a large portion of one of the sides covered in wooden splinters. The wrapping must have come off as they were loading or unloading it in the truck. They acknowledged this and told my girlfriend to call or email the claims department and they would reimburse us to clean it or replace it. I finally got down to DC after the movers had left and we realized that one of the boxes was not delivered. It was a small box that I had put several beer steins and mugs that were given to my by my grandparents from Germany. After any back and forth emails, Corey from District Relocators said in an email that he would send me a check for $250 to replace items from the box that wasn't delivered under their liability policy. Since that email was sent to me, no one will respond to my emails at the company. Every time I call, I am told to keep emailing. After being fed up with no response I reported the incident through the Better Business Bureau. BBB reached out to District Relocators and they did not respond to them either. They technically don't have to since they aren't an accredited BBB member. This company competes on price with absolutely no customer service to speak of. As you can see from the other, more positive reviews on this site my case may be isolated but it is 100% true. read more

How do these guys have such a good review?? It's been awhile since I've used them and I never got around to the review. However I remember it well. It went pretty quickly, but I wouldn't have paid for three hours if they were only going to take one. I would have appreciated it if they had either told me it would only take an hour, or not rushed through the job so much that it was done poorly. They nicked up my furniture quite a bit during the move. And then they tried to charge me more than the normal amount for the stairs. I had to show them on the website they were overcharging me, based on their policy. The movers were going to charge me much more than their policy stated until I showed them the website. They said the person who had given me the price information three days previous was no longer employed at District Relocators. What? It just seemed like their only goal was trying to get as much money out of me as possible. And it wasn't convenient at all, they put the boxes in all the wrong places, so I had to re-move everything when they left. Their company seems predatory---I would never use them again! read more

In my opinion District Relocators does an adequate job unless something unexpected goes wrong. In our case a piece of furniture was damaged by the movers. Per the request from the Claims Department I sent them a pic of the damage. The Claims rep indicated they would get right on it. A month went by before someone showed up to attempt to address our concern. The in-field restoration work was unable to satisfactorily fix the problem. A pic of the as left repair was then sent to the Claims Department, along with a request for them to contact us. Numerous follow-up Emails and phone calls over a two week period went unanswered. A complaint was subsequently filed with the Mid-Atlantic BBB. read more

Generally good, but with a bump or two in the process. My move was quick and efficient, and the movers were friendly and reasonably careful with my stuff. My only complaint is that they didn't really pay attention to the move-in location. I gave them a typed sheet with the building address and directions to the loading dock. They ignored that information and went to the building next door. When I called to find out where they were, they swore up and down that they were in my loading dock (which I was actually standing in), and they knew they were in the right place because "we've moved hundreds of people into this building." Except my building is brand new - there aren't 20 people living in it. If they had read my directions, the second half of the move would have been less stressful and a lot quicker. And when I finally convinced the team they were in the wrong place and got them to the right place, there was no apology, or even acknowledgement of the mistake. Overall, I would recommend these movers, simply because so many others are terrible or crooks. But I would definitely make sure they know exactly where they're moving my stuff to. That part of the move should have been easier than it was. read more

The actual movers did a good job. My issue is with Corey, the owner of this company. I had movers move my things on 6/14/2015. The move went without flaw. At the end of the move I wrote a check (a starter check) to District Relocators in the amount of $375. I received a receipt for my payment. After 5 days I noticed that my check had not been cashed. He then called me later that day to tell me that sometimes payments can take up to a week. I told him that this was unusual for it to take that long but I would wait a few more days. He then ended the call stating that it should for sure clear my account by Monday and if it does not call him back. Monday comes (6/22/2015) the amount still is not out of my account. At this point I am panicking because I am in the process of closing on my home in DC and I am worried about the large amount of funds in my checking account and the status of this pending transaction. I call him again and am unable to leave him a voicemail because the mailbox is full. I think follow up with a text message letting him know that the funds are still not out of my account and this is totally unprofessional because he assured me that the issue would be resolved by Monday, and that I plan to write a Yelp review about my experience. He then tells me that I do not need to do that (via text) and that I need to just stop payment on the check and they are really busy (am I suppose to care? what does that have to do with the $375 I paid you?) and I needed to provide another form of payment. This is where things go terribly wrong. I call Corey on his cell directly and immediately this man starts to yell and over talk me and tell me that I have to pay him immediately. He first tells me that he told the check and I need to provide another form of payment. My immediate reaction was "No I am not writing you another check, you need to find the check I gave you...you losing my check is not my issue" he then tells me that he will take me to small claims court if I do not pay. I again tell him that I have paid, he lost my check. He then follows up with "there werent enough funds in your account, we tried to cash it and it didnt clear".... So again I say "I dont know what is going on, but I paid you once, I am not paying you again". He then threatens me and says "you do not want to do that I will take you to court" I then say, well let me call my lawyer and you can talk to her directly so I can see what my options are. I click over, call my lawyer, and during the time I place the call he hangs up on me. I call him back....he is yelling at me again that I legally have to pay, I again state that I have already paid, and I ask again, did you attempt to cash my check? He goes back and forth between they lost it and I have to pay, and there was not enough money in my account and I have to pay. I told him I need to know the status of the original check first. Well idiot me, I used starter checks to write my check so I did not know the number, so I tell him I do not have the check number, but he has my name and address and he should be able to use that as a reference, along with the receipt. He tells me he doesnt have it and he cannot track the check unless he has the check number. I tell him again that I am more than willing to pay once I call my bank and cancel the check and have written notice from him that the check is lost. I told him once I call my bank and I have written notice from him I will provide him with another form of payment. He then stops answering my calls, I tried to call him numerous times to resolve the issue and he was unresponsive. I wait another few days to see if the check clears, and it doesnt so I go to my bank to see what the issue is.They tell me that no one has attempted to cash any checks, there are no holds on my account. I then email Corey and give him the name of the person that I spoke to and told them that there is nothing more I can do regarding the matter, he has my check, he has my bank info...if its not able to be cashed then he needs to speak to my bank as this is a transaction matter that is out of my control. I then tell him that if he needs to speak to me I would like him to use email so we can track the conversation. He sends me a TEXT a few hours later stating that the issue was with HIS BANK Citi, they thought the check was fake. Now...my only response was "please follow up directly with my bank". After that we no longer speak. It is now 7/23/2015 and TODAY THE CHECK WAS CASHED. How in the world does it take a month to cash a check if the bank has it in their possession AND you also have my bank information? For such a large sum of money ($375) I expect timely payment and processing. I paid him the day that I had services rendered, my expectation is that 5-10 business days everything is complete. Between the untimeliness of the transaction and the disrespectful and unprofessional way I was talked to, I will not use them again. read more

I've had 2 experiences with District Relocators and the average between them would be 3 stars. First time I used them was about 2 years ago when I switched units in my apartment building. The movers arrived on time, wrapped all the furniture with moving blankets and finished the job during the 3-hour minimum. The experience went great so I kept their number handy. Recently I moved out of that apartment building and into a new home. During this move the movers arrived on time and immediately got to work. They loaded the truck quickly, wrapped all the furniture, and were friendly and courteous. However, they smashed a dresser into the wall casing some damage to the wall and nothing yet noticeable to the dresser. Once the truck was packed we left to drive to the new house and to make sure the parking area was cleared. But for some reason it took the movers nearly 45 minutes to drive the 2.5 miles from our old house to the new one. Since we're paying in 15 minute increments for each hour over 3, we were not happy that it took them so long to drive over there. Once they arrived they immediately began unloading the truck and moving stuff in. We had just recently repainted the new house and specifically mentioned to them to please be careful since it was all freshly painted. However at some point they smashed a piece of furniture into the wall and left a dent and scuff marks. As per the agreement, we also had them disassemble our bed frame. Once in the new house they attempted to reassemble the bed frame, but lost some screws, over tightened other screws, damaged the slats and generally damaged the frame. Also during the move when they damaged one of our dressers they failed to point it out to us after they unwrapped it, maybe hoping we just wouldn't notice. After the move was finished and we inspected all of our stuff we contacted District Relocators to let them know about the damage and asked that they compensate us for the damages which were covered in their agreement. This started the most frustrating part of the entire process. We emailed them the next day to alert them about the damages and were told to email their claims dept. We sent that email the next day. No answer. We emailed again 2 days later. No answer. We sent them pictures of the damage. No answer. We called the main number and asked to speak with the person who handles claims and we were told that they will get back to us. We asked when or if there was a way to contact that person directly and we were told that they have no way of contacting that person. Finally someone named Corey responded and said they have 60 days to settle the claim (though this is mentioned nowhere in the moving instructions email they sent), asked that we send pictures of the damages (we already had done this) and that he would personally respond by the end of the following week. The end of the following week came and went and no response from Corey. He had left a cell number in his email and so I texted him. In the ensuing text conversation Corey seemed to have no record of us, was out of the office so wasn't going to look into the claim until the following week and asked that I remind him to look into it the following week. I texted him again for his reminder and again he showed that he basically had no records for our move by asking what sort of coverage we had from them for the move and what address we moved to. The next day we received an email from Corey basically deflecting any blame and offering a settlement. He tried to explain that "Moving can be a tough job and sometimes mistakes happen." The amount of the settlement he claimed "should cover the cost of the wall scratches and more than cover the .60 cents a lb furniture settlement." It certainly did not "more than cover" the .60 cents/lb, but seeing as I had little hope that they would settle this correctly I decided to cut my losses and just accept this. We received an email from them asking for feedback and so here is that feedback. I will be reluctant to use them again in the future and will think twice about referring them. read more

District Relocators showed up early and moved all of my stuff so fast my head almost spun! I was planning to use the last few minutes to tape up some boxes and throw some last minute things in another box, but they came in, taped up the boxes themselves, and hauled them out. It was a total whirlwind. I moved from one 1BR apartment to another that were about 15 minutes apart and frankly I don't have a lot of furniture, but I think they were completely done in less than an hour. (I still had to pay the three-hour minimum, though). Anyway, they worked very well. I would recommend them to anyone. read more
