Been here twice now and while the food is good, the service (more specifically the cashier) frankly sucks. Each time the cashier seemed to be completely put out that I dared order dinner at this place. The latest visit had the cashier barely speaking as he took my order. I noted his name, but I won't post it. Its not like you can avoid him. The rest of the service is fine. Now to the food. The last trip was for shrimp tacos and they were very good. I got them to go, but they held up well despite having slaw on them. They were filling (I got three) but I wished I had gotten some chips to complement them. I ordered Uber Eats, and it was pretty good! Surprising for a fast food joint. Everything was included and in the package - nothing missing. The ingredients are fresh and the beans and rice were cooked perfectly. You get enough food but it's not like a chipotle-sized serving. The only thing I disliked was that "grilled chicken" is advertised but it's dark leg meat chicken. It is flavorful though. I would order from here again. read more

The newest store is located on Wilson Boulevard in Rosslyn right underneath/next to Target Express. This location due to its cleanliness and preparation of food restores my confidence in District Taco. The location in the Foggy Bottom M Street neighborhood is not comparable to the quality at the Rosslyn location. Although this location is narrow in space, it may have the same square footage as the one in Foggy Bottom. It looks kinda small when you enter, but it's almost like a narrow DC rowhouse, narrow but plenty of space longitudinally. This is my go-to District Taco location for my taco fix. TIP: Always go with the corn tortillas. The carne asada, barbacoa, and carnitas are your best bet for protein. read more

***********My 100th review of 2018********** I mentioned in my 99th review of District Taco in downtown DC that my 100th review would be the one in Rosslyn. I reference triple digit heat. For the record, the high on Friday, August 12, 2016 was 99 F, but the extremely high humidity that day made it feel as high as 110 F! The next 3-consecutive days did reach at least 100 F; so it was definitely an intensive heat wave. On Friday, August 12, 2016 I had a first date with a woman from an online dating site. I planned on going to the Rosslyn Outdoor Movie showing, and I wasn't going to let the extreme heat stop me, and the temperatures falling and were only in the low 90's to upper 80's at sunset for the outdoor movie showing, but with the extreme humidity still felt like 103 at sunset. This was a new District Taco that had opened in Rosslyn not long before August 2016. I got the tacos, which I enjoyed. My date & I most enjoyed the cool a/c in the restaurant maybe even more than the delicious tacos! It was clean, and we had a nice view of the one-way eastbound traffic on Clarendon Blvd, where it comes back into Wilson Blvd. They were a friendly staff, and we received our food in a timely manner. My date already knew that I was planning on going to the Rosslyn Outdoor Movie, and that's why we picked a place in Rosslyn in the first place. She said that she was sensitive to the heat and couldn't medically deal with sitting outside in the oppressive conditions that were August 12, 2016. We hugged, and she either walked to Metro (although she may have Ubered back to DC where she lived to avoid any walking at all to Metro), and I walked to the outdoor showing alone. Couldn't get any friends at the last minute to show, but I really enjoyed the movie; didn't enjoy the high heat index though. Overall, I would consider another visit to this District Taco if I go to the Rosslyn Outdoor movie screenings again or if I'm in the area. read more

Carne Asada Burrito! this particular location is the best of all District Taco Restaurants. it's always full with happy people, as well as the great service and lively vibe. the burritos here seems to be tastes better than the other locations. maybe it's the service, maybe the smiles or else, I don't know. but one thing I know, .. even though this is not SF Mission Style Burritos, whenever I'm craving San Francisco Mission Style Burritos (and that is very often) this is the place where you will find me. unless you're in SF, this is the place where you should go. Amazing tacos!!! So much better than bowls. Barbacoa is the best (incredibly succulent braised beef with strong peppery flavor, yum). Al pastor comes in a very close second (love the flavorful red sauce), and pulled pork comes in third. The fish taco was meh okay - I wasn't a fan of the bit-heavy mayo in it. The medium-spicy sauce was awesome. I always add that sauce and extra tomato/onion topping and cilantro to my tacos. 3 tacos aren't quite filling enough for dinner. Wish the serving size was 4, which would've been perfect (or 5, if you're very hungry). My friend and I were very hungry so we each had 2 orders of tacos - 6 tacos per person were definitely a bit too much (even my friend, who's a guy and is looking to gain mass, said 6 tacos were too much. A lot of my friends have given me negative reviews about this place but I decided to give it a try and judge by myself. I will say the tacos are not 100% authentic, but they are close enough. They definitely do the trick. I had the al pastor nachos and they were really good, fulfilling. Not a ton of meat, but overall good. You get to pick the toppings, pretty straight forwards. With that said, my honest opinion of this place is that it's just OK (and not A-OK as per the description of 3 stars on Yelp). If you were to compare this place to Chipotle, I'm honestly not sure you could come up with even a few distinctions. Both offer almost the same type of meats (and they taste similar too). I thought the meat consistency was poor. I shouldn't have to struggle to distinguish between chicken and steak. They both offer similar salsas, although kudos to District Taco for having a salsa bar so you can control the salsa amount. District Taco may have an edge on the tortilla but it's still not as soft as I personally prefer. Most importantly, the price points are the ultimate indication of a solid Mexican joint. $3 a taco seems like a bit much, although I will say District Taco is fairly generous with their meats. Maybe it's unfair to compare this place to a legit Mexican place but I also think it's a bit crazy to say it's vastly different from Chipotle. It's definitely a convenient place to go to if you're desperately craving any sort of Mexican food but I guess it's just not for me. read more

Honestly, very disappointing. I thought this would be a great chipotle alternative, but chipotle is miles ahead of District Taco. For one, they take orders and then make your meal. Part of the appeal of fast casual places like chipotle, bibibop, cava, and Roti are that you can see your bowl being made and decide on the fly what you want to try today. It's a lot more difficult if you have to pick your toppings up front. For instance, if the fajitas at chipotle are mushy, I skip them. I don't have that luxury if I can't actually take a peek at the food. On to the bowl: beans were mushy and flavorless. The rice was also flavorless for the most part. The steak was so well done that our president may have even considered eating it. I don't think I'll be back. Chipotle and Cava have my heart. read more

I have loved District Taco for over a year now, but it is always hard to eat, check-in, and review one because the part of Washington, DC where I usually work (19th Street and H to L Streets) didn't have a District Taco for months and months over the last year. (The District Taco on 20th and M closed for renovations for the longest time over the past 12 months.) I would have given District Taco a 5-star review sooner, if I had been near one more often since I joined Yelp in January. Anyway, I was in Roslyn tonight, and I was hungry for dinner right when I was running errands near this, particular District Taco, and boy am I glad I stopped in here for my last meal of the day. Everything is great here, the beef, the pork, the vegetables. Everything. They are always really fast at District Taco. Beyond that, you can get some *free* guacamole, *if* you order a breakfast taco, with your regular dinner tacos, and ask for guacamole on the breakfast taco (at District Taco, you can always get free guacamole on a breakfast taco, while other kinds of tacos always result in an extra charge for the guacamole). These good things are true for all District Taco stores, not just this one here in Roslyn. Also, the service is consistently great at the whole of the District Taco chain. I still would say that my *tip-top* taco chain would be a 5-star (and therefore super-clean) Chipotle. But it is getting harder and harder to find a really clean Chipotle these days. District Taco is usually/much more often super-clean. This one in Roslyn certainly is. Again, except for the perfect Chipotle (which, yes, would beat the perfect District Taco), these District Tacos are the best-tasting Mexican chain in America. They are mainly here in the Washington area, so if you come here to visit, you should definitely go! read more

It was just ok. The corn tortillas weren't that good, they lacked fresh flavor, were dry and felt like they had been just microwaved. Good tacos will be just slightly oily from the meat, but these were not at all. I tried the chorizo, barbacoa and the al pastor. All dry, except for the barbacoa. The flavor wasn't that great, I would say I liked the chorizo best but it's hard to say. It's like everything lacked a little fat, which is needed for flavor when it comes to tacos. So maybe it's just them trying to be "healthy"? Overall, not a place I would recommend for tacos. If you want some real, gives-you-a-taco-high tacos, head down the street to the El Chilango food truck. My husband got a burrito mojado, which looked pretty impressive. They charge $2.50 for bacon or guacamole. The burrito was better than the tacos, surprising for a place with tacos in the name. The soda selection was nice, I liked the cream soda! District Taco is a great place to get a quick taco pick me up! We stopped by here on Cinco de Mayo and ordered chicken, beef, and chorizo tacos. I was a little surprised we walked in and there was no line around dinner time. All three tacos were full of flavor and had different seasonings. My favorite was the chicken but the other two were close contenders. This location is a little tricky if you are driving because there is no sperate parking area but there is metered street parking right in front of it. DT,! Finally a location close to home. Definitely not my typical experience compared to other District Taco locations though. Ordered the healthy corn tacos with potatoes and black beans. First time, I received egg whites, potatoes and cheese. I asked to have them remade. Second time, I receive egg whites, potatoes, and cheese. Interesting thing with the second order, the cook was told to add the black beans. Like, the cashier looked the cooked directly in the eye and said, BLACK BEANS. But.....Third time is a charm right.... Nope. Same exact order. Egg whites, potatoes, and cheese. Yoga has me too calm. Because, I definitely had ALL the reasons to be mad. Instead, I firmly asked for black beans. The cook reluctantly gives them to me on the side. Because at this point, I'm running late, I don't have time for you to remake my order a fourth time. Where else can you get three delicious, authentic shrimp tacos for $9? Marvelous Mexican bang bang in the mouth. This place hits all the right notes for street-style Mexican tacos in a well-organized space and well-managed flow. Their tacos have a good balance of piquant, flavorful protein, with the crunch and zest of cabbage, pico de gallo, and a smattering of other fillings. Big difference between District tacos offerings and your average Tex Mex joint (like, say, Uncle Julios or Anitas out in the 'burbs) notably, in the balance of flavors and textures. The tacos here are not drowning in beans, cheese, flavorless iceberg lettuce strips, and massive chunks of meat. Their salsa bar is perfection, where spicy means spicy. A good range of condiments down to the mild. Extra limes! Extra jalapenos! Extra cilantro! Mexican bang bang again. Nice, clean presentation with small plastic tubs for the condiments. What better way to try district taco for the first time than at their newest location! First things first, this place is jammin! And for how busy they are their service is fast and they bring out the food in no time so don't fret about waiting. Since moving to the east coast I have found that the Mexican food scene is seriously lacking. Therefore, I was excited to try a new Mexican spot. District taco did not disappoint. I ordered the burrito mojado and it was delicious, I highly suggest it. It was a 'wet' burrito lathered in spicy goodness. I substituted somethings in the burrito and added guacamole and other toppings and they were very accommodating to my requests (thank you district taco). My boyfriend ordered the tacos and although they aren't traditional Mexican tacos they are still really yummy. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the tacos + chips and queso I got from here the last time I visited. I got tacos al pastor and they were REAL good. You could definitely taste the pineapple flavor in the chicken and having some pineapple chunks in the taco was also a nice plus. The chips were fresh and salty and the queso was hot and awesome. If I want just tacos this will probably be my go-to place. They blow Chipotle's tacos out of the water and I'll have to try their burritos next to see if I'll just make the full switch. HORRIBLE! The manager on site on October 21st, was so awful. I walked in to order and she yelled at me to go outside and wait for my order. I tried to get closer to her so I could try to understand her demand. I said "I haven't ordered yet". She continued to forcefully tell me to go back outside. I had a mask on and was trying to get dinner for me and my husband. I turned around and said this is the third time I have had trouble in here. I said, "never mind" and walked out. I love the carnitas breakfast tacos! They need a dessert, tho. Something sweet to finish a meal or you have to run to Target for a Hershey bar. Staff is nice, and it's super convenient. My boyfriend actually recommended this place to me. He said it was vegan friendly, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had beyond meat (itza)! I took the liberty of looking through the dietary info on their website and found it to be very helpful. All the vegetable sides are vegan as well as the corn and flour tortillas. The ingredients are of higher quality and taste than Chipotle at a comparative price. As far as service is concerned, the women who took our order was very helpful. This is a great place to go for vegans and meat eaters alike! My tip would be to mobile order instead of walking in because you could have a 20-30 min wait time depending on how many mobile orders are in before you. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas-these are not foods I typically crave. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of times I have suggested going to any place specializing in these foods. Usually, I am the one grudgingly going with the flow of the group that suggests Mexican. I, however, had heard about District Taco on a consistent basis since moving to the DC area, and my interest was piqued. I finally had the opportunity to try DT for takeout the other night, and well, I was less than impressed with the takeout experience. That being said, I'd like to return for a dine in visit as I think the main issue I had could possibly be resolved by eating the tacos immediately. I placed my order ahead of time online for 3 tacos in corn tortillas-al pastor, barbacoa, and carnitas. I added sautéed green peppers and onions to the barbacoa and carnitas tacos and also added cilantro and sour cream. For the al pastor taco, I chose to keep it simple with just cilantro and white onion. Total for 3 tacos was $8 which is more than reasonable. I left for my less than 10 minute drive to DT in plenty of time, however, I spent more time attempting to find parking than it actually took me to drive there. Note to self: do not drive to Rosslyn in the future. I eventually just parked in the Target garage and bought something so I could park for free and close by. I ended up arriving a couple minutes after the time I was told my order would be ready, walked up to the window, and retrieved my order. It was SUPER crowded around this time-7:30-and I was glad I ordered online so I could bypass the line. Before leaving, I stopped at the salsa bar and explored my options. They had a tomatillo (green) mild salsa, a chipotle medium spice salsa, a hotter option (can't remember the name), pico de gallo, cilantro, and limes. I packed up 2 each of the tomatillo, chipotle medium, and pico. When I arrived home-a less than 10 minute drive-I opened my tacos and was really disappointed in the fact that the tortillas were soggy and falling apart. I couldn't even eat them with my hands and the tortillas just tasted disgusting due to their sogginess so I ended up removing the contents of the tacos onto a separate plate and just ate the ingredients sans shells. Besides the large piece of fat I found in my carnitas, the meats were pretty good. My favorite was the al pastor as you could tell it soaked up some of the pineapple flavor from the tidbits of it inside. Other than the piece of fat in the carnitas, the meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, although tougher than I would have preferred. The barbacoa had a nice kick to it, complimented by the chipotle salsa I added to this meat. The tomatillo salsa was ok, not great. I like cilantro but I felt this salsa had an overkill in it. The amount of green peppers and onions was a pleasant surprise which definitely made my big pile of meat more enjoyable. I would have appreciated more sour cream too. In to go orders, I suggest they put the sour cream on the side. I would like to increase my star count on a return dine in visit, however, I know I will never get take out from here again as clearly these tacos couldn't even survive a less than 10 minute trip back to my house. Since I enjoyed the flavors from DT, I will rate DT as 3 stars, however, I'd say for the takeout experience this was at most a 2 star visit. read more
