He told me it was his first time doing that kind of updo, but honestly, you wouldn't have known. He took his time, made sure it wasn't too tight (huge win for my scalp), and the end result looked great. He even gave me a discount since it was his first time doing a bun for a customer. which I thought was super thoughtful. I wasn't sure if this was retro-cool or if I should grab my kid and make a run for it. A half hour later, the older man's blade scraping was done (that's how he "cut" her hair; not with scissors). He did everything very slowly. I'm not sure if that meant he took his time or that's just how fast he can go, but he asked questions a long the way in Cantonese, which none of us speak. (I can speak some Mandarin.) We were anticipating a possible language barrier so we brought a photo to show him, but he didn't look at it for more than a couple seconds, didn't acknowledge it, and definitely DIDN'T cut my daughter's hair to resemble that photo. He did, however, ask throughout the haircut questions, like "layers?" "This short?" "Bangs?" I think? I'm just guessing at this point. My daughter was a good sport and left saying, "It's just hair. It'll grow!" And, "You can fix the sides and the front when we get home, right mom?!!" Ummm... It was only $18 + tip, and you must pay in cash. **TIP** If you go, you just have to be flexible and know that it's a haircut, so that's exactly what they're gonna do: cut your hair shorter. That's the only goal here. The style will be a mystery till it's over! Haha. But at least it'll be precise because the man we got works really slow. The place wasn't clean and was very old, but basically what I'd expect from a salon in Chinatown. Even with all that said, I would totally go back, but that's because we believe it was a good cut for the price and we aren't married to a particular style. We are really loose with this stuff. She patiently explained the process and brought out the hair color samples for me to pick. I wasn't sure which ones would suit me the best, so she even provided a bit of artistic consultation. As my first time coloring hair, I was initially worried about my hair drying out from the bleaching and coloring, but she did a great job to protect my hair and keep it moisturized. I've done a couple washings since I've got my hair done and it honestly feels almost exactly like my natural hair before I got it done. The colors blend so beautifully together with streaks of blonde and light brown. I've gotten so many compliments from people. Making me feel like some sort of influencer! I have long (mid-back) and thick hair, and she quoted a price of $25 which seemed reasonable to me. (Do note that there is a price list in the window with starting prices, but depending on then length of your hair and hair type, the prices may go up.) She also mentioned that she would be able to assist me in about ten minutes, so I waited. About 15 minutes later, she ushered me into the wash station and washed my hair. She washed and rinsed it twice, and then set me under a dryer for a few minutes while she finished up with another customer. She expertly juggled all of her customers to maximize her time and salon space. Then she efficiently dried my hair, leaving it smooth and shiny. She did not use a flatiron to finish it, but for the price, I didn't mind too much. She was friendly and accommodated me when she was quite busy, and my hair looks great. Xièxie!

Apparently the hairdresser thinks he knows whats better for you. Not sure if I want to go to a hair salon where they will give you a surprise hairdo instead of the one I requested. But if you're into that, go for it... i just got what looks like a long mullet. Main points as to why I would not suggest this place 1. Hair dresser doesn't listen to the customer. Instead of doing what I requested, he instead cut my hair the way he wanted. Now i have a semi mullet instead of just the simple trim I requested. I even showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted and he still did whatever he wanted instead. 2. Unattentive While cutting my hair, he spent most of the time talking with other workers at the salon about a recipe and ended up yanking my earring painfully. I yelped and reached for my ear. Instead of apologizing, he was too busy looking at his coworkers while he continued to talk. Do you really want someone cutting your hair who isn't even paying attention to you, while they are using are sharp instrument near your head.

Then as the other barber (the one that the guy told us would help us) was done with his client.... he didn't acknowledge our existence and went to show another person that came in AFTER us a book of male styles that can be done to his long hair. There was a lady who was sitting on the couch next to us and she was looking at random styles for Asian females and the guy went to her to service her with more Asian magazines for ideas. SHE WASN'T EVEN THERE TO GET A HAIR CUT! She was waiting on her friend who was getting her hair dyed. WTF?! STRIKE THREE! I was like F-this place! BF and I got up and just left. What a waste of 30 mins! BTW, my bf is asian and can speak Cantonese.. so there was no language barrier there.

I am utterly dismayed and feel compelled to address the salon's response to my review directly, as their comment seems to distort the reality of my experience. At no point did I resort to profanity or foul language, a stark contrast to the treatment I received from the front desk staff, including being spoken down to and subjected to a racist remark, as I've detailed previously. My grievances extend beyond the twice botched hair color; I clearly communicated these mishaps to both the front desk and the artists involved. However, the core of my distress lies in the abhorrent manner in which I was treated, an issue that is profoundly devastating. Furthermore, the owner's apathy towards the situation exacerbates my frustration. After being publicly humiliated by her front desk staff, in the presence of another customer and staff members, there was no attempt by the owner to engage with me, a customer who had placed her trust in the salon's care and expertise. The only semblance of empathy I encountered was a whispered apology from one of the staff members as I departed, a witness to the indignity I was subjected to. This incident was not just a failure of service but a stark reflection of the disregard and disrespect that I, as a customer, faced at the hands of this establishment. Previous comment: I am absolutely livid and deeply humiliated by the atrocious service I endured. My hair color was ruined not once, but twice, due to the unavailability of the requested artist. When I sought assurance about the expertise of the artist I was being assigned to for the third time, I was met with disdain and outright insult by the front desk staff. My intent was not to question Diva's competence--unbeknownst to me, the owner--but to ensure I wouldn't suffer another botched hair color. Yet, from the moment I stepped into the salon, I was misjudged and berated. The receptionist assumed I was there for a hair straightening service and, upon correcting him, I was subjected to another round of unwarranted hostility. His behavior escalated to making a racist comment, claiming he knew how to "deal with Indians." This experience culminated in utter disgrace when, after being verbally assaulted, I was abandoned by both Diva and the offensive front desk staff, leaving me in the hands of an assistant. Believe it or not it doesn't take just hours, but takes many many years and behind the scenes education to really understand the difficulty of being a creative hair stylist, at Diva International education is the foundation to success, if you go to the Google reviews you will see and understand more of a reliable source A world of knowledge comes through a specialist at different levels, The customer also plays a vital role in the success of a well performed service, many facets are at play in regards to how we care for our Hair what is the color what is the porosity what is the condition? How do we maintain our hair? Please ask these questions when you are sitting in the chair, I never take it for granted that the stylist knows everything I have to own up to what I know about my own hair in order to get the complete service I want. I understand that smoothing treatments don't straighten hair, especially the keratin treatments that do not contain formaldehyde! The new designer keratin treatments only contain amino acids that are designed to reduce the frizz and the drying time of your hair, if you want a straightening service that's a completely different type of service. read more

What an incredible experience from the moment I walked in. The front desk staff was more than welcoming, and the beautiful retail area was immaculate. I couldn't resist treating myself to an authentic brass plated in gold necklace. Long story short I was in desperate need for an updated look. The handsome man at the front desk was able to squeeze me in. After working with two hair dressers I left with stunning well done full Balayage Highlights, and an edgy new hair cut. The hair dresser who completed my color was tedious, careful, and really seemed knowledgable, a true artist! Once I met the hair dresser who cut my hair, i knew it was going to turn out awesome. She asked specific questions and delivered exactly what i requested. To top it off, complimentary wine and snacks accompanied me through the already fun time I was having. The salons manicurist also gave me the best Mani/Pedi I have had since moving to San Francisco. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
